Meet Hugo, the happiest bug who loves to share smiles and tiny, warm hugs! From flowers to trees and even cuddly bees, Hugo believes hugs can brighten anyone’s day.
But when Hugo meets friends like Johnny Snail, Mae the ladybug, and Frank the frog, he learns that not everyone is ready for hugs.
He discovers that understanding body boundaries and asking for consent are just as important as sharing kindness.
Through patience and empathy, Hugo teaches us that friendship can bloom without overwhelming others.
"Hugo the Huggy Bug" is a heartwarming tale about respect, body boundaries, and the joy of connecting with friends.
Barbara Pinke is an award-winning children’s book author who believes every story deserves a sprinkle of adventure, a dash of heart, and maybe even a dancing fish or two.
Born and raised in Hungary, Barbara hopscotched her way across Europe—collecting memories, inspiration, and probably a few too many notebooks—before settling in Germany with her family (and her ever-growing tea stash).
By day, she works in HR (helping grown-ups), and by night, she writes books (helping little hearts grow big). She doesn’t drink coffee (though she loves the smell), but give her a cup of warm plum tea and a handful of pistachios, and she’s ready to take on any story.
Whether she’s writing about underwater adventures, superhero parents, or bugs that love to hug, Barbara’s mission is simple: to create stories that make kids smile and parents feel like rockstars.
LOVE this book! can I give you a big hug for writing it?
Love that the author covered this topic and she did it so well! Personal space and boundaries can be so hard to understand but this book explained it perfectly in my opinion. Cute illustrations! Very fun and informative read for kids!
Sweet story Hugo the little bug loves giving hugs to everyone. But somehow the other bugs do not like it. Then he talks to Frank the frog and learns something important. Sweet story of learning about boundaries with lovely illustrations. Good read.
A sweet rhyming story about a gorgeous bug who loves hugs. He quickly has to learn that not everyone feels the same about hugs. Some bugs need space, a listening ear and or a friend. The illustrations are so cute.
"Sorry we didn't like your book. It was a little too mushy and too huggy." - 6 year old girl and 4 year old boy. Honestly, they insisted on leaving a one star review. And equally honestly, we (all) think your other books are great.
