Shadows May Fall

Rate this book
Athena Townsend is no demon, but she isn't an angel, either.
After avenging her father's death, Athena is left with two choices - take a new job, or go to jail. It seemed like a no-brainer to take the mysterious Bryn Siegmund's job offer and work for the Valkyries Initiative, but things quickly get complicated.
As a Kidemonas, Athena is a guardian against an insatiable Soul Eater. Her magical talents are uniquely suited to fight spiritual predators, though she'll need a partner to watch her back. Unfortunately, her new boss seems to hate her, and Athena's new partner is none other than Sebastian Lawrence, the Shooter who legally assassinated her father, the Shooter who helped avenge her father's death... and the man who saved her life.
He's also the biggest asshole she'd ever met.
Sebastian is just as thrilled to be working with her again, but his wild magical talent might be a bigger threat to her than his uber-grump attitude.
For their first official assignment together, they have to track down the Unicorn, a teenage girl with an unprecedented healing ability - before the Spider's agent can find her first. When the signs of the Kidemonas' ancient enemy appear in the midst of their investigation, Athena will have to figure out how to unleash her full potential and trust Sebastian. Because if they can't work together, the world might not survive.
Save the Unicorn, defeat the Soul Eater, try not to murder her insanely hot partner. Just another day working for the Valkyries Initiative.

Love the characters

A great story of adventure and battles against evil. The plot is well knit, and the people well rounded. Snark abounds.

Right off the bat, I feel it is important to state that I am not writing this review under duress. The biker gang Melissa has sent to ride up and down my street for the last three days do not intimidate me in the least, it's just that cleaning up the mess would be really inconvenient and I don't know what I would even do with 30-40 motorcycles. Like I said, it would just be a huge hassle all around.

Now that that's out of the way let's just dive into the sheer awesomeness that Melissa Olthoff has somehow managed to cram into the unassuming pages of this book. If this books awesomeness had mass, I would have my very own black hole and I would name it Bjorn. Alas, awesomeness does not have mass, so that particular dream will just have to wait.

This book has it all, a werewolf, a demon-chick, a death goddess, a demon-dude, a demon possessed chick that just wants to watch the world burn, a sprite run diner, three metric tons of crazy Greeks, a bunch of rat things that are jerks and then turn out to be cool. I have to stop now, but I think by now you have realized this book must be read. Honestly, most of you have probably already stopped reading this and are frantically searching Amazon to buy a copy.

Summary: Imagine the end of the world, but not the one you're thinking of, but instead one that you've never thought of before, and further are incapable of thinking of, because you're not Melissa Freaking Olthoff! Yeah, it's that great. Now, toss is some crazy sweet action scenes, some accurate descriptions of manly muscles (if you're into that sort of thing), more cackling than any book has a legal right to contain (they literally had to convene a special U.N. session to receive international approval), and an ending that makes you believe in your fellow man again.

You may be thinking that this review is the epitome of hyperbole, but I would never do that to you because I respect you!

So, go buy this book. Do it now. It is one decision you will never regret.
