This is England, and these are the Dead Days... England, now. A man with a dark soul is playing with people like pieces in a game. He is the man with fire in his eyes. A young child with a remarkable mind, a cold-hearted woman, and a policeman ruled by fear are all that stand in the dark man's way. In the Dead Days there are no winners, just unlikely heroes, the lucky, the unlucky...and the dead. This is England, and these are the Dead Days.

A little aside - I don't visit GR often, but I'm always available on Twitter or the FB page. I apologise in advance if it takes a while for me to answer a question here!
I'm binging on Saunders, otherwise I don't know if I'd go for yet another zombie novel and certainly not for Part 1 of something. Thing is Saunders is really good (for the most part) and for what it is, this works. Part 1 is suppose to draw the readers in, it certainly does that. But then it leaves them hanging...there is no part 2 that I can find, it's been long enough and Saunders is fairly prolific with books coming out quite often. No idea if he's abandoned this zombie apocalypse serial or what. That's pretty disappointing. Although Saunders' books are such quick reads that this was only an hour of time. Something must be said about that cover though. It's just the cheesiest fugliest cover. What happened? There are self published amateur crapfests out there with better art. Saunders is a relatively known author. How did he ok this? Or didn't he? Or he did and the remorse over doing so has kept him from writing part 2? So many questions unanswered with this novella. Inquiring minds beware.
Original and fun, two key ingredients required to mix an excellent apocalyptic horror. This one has extra helpings of both with a scoop of bleak humor. The funny bits floored me in several places. My one gripe is there were some editing issues that took me out of the flow a few times. Nothing a little spit and polish wouldn't remedy. All in all, this was well worth the read.
Great Read!!! Reminds me of The Stand by Stephen King
Great book. Very interesting and uniquely executed premise. Well written. Only flaw was there were a few editing mistakes. Not anything that you could not overlook. I could not put this book down. Loved it.
Whilst not the most alluring of covers, like a Tesco bag full of expensive Belgian chocolates it contains a veritable feast of treasures. Craig's blunt to the point way of writing is perfect for the images he's portraying and will make you laugh, wince, and cower in all the right places. The opening hours of a virulent outbreak introduces some interesting characters that you can't help but want to know more about. Really enjoyed it.
