What I really love about Joseph Badal's books is that they could come right off the pages of today's newspapers, and it is uncanny how he writes almost prophetically about international terrorist events. Terror Cell takes place during the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 and had me on edge throughout the book. Unlike most thriller writers, Badal includes a strong female character to complement his male protagonist -- in this case Liz Danforth. I am excited to learn that Evil Deeds, the first in the Bob & Liz Danforth series, is about to be released. I will now get to know Bob and Liz as a young couple.
Terror Cell is the second outing in the Bob Danforth series, and it is a dandy! Bob is back in Greece for the CIA where he is faced with multiple terrorist threats and geopolitical intrigue on a grand scale. His career and his life are on the line along with the lives of his wife and now grown Army officer son. The action is non-stop and the body count is high. The only thing more a thriller lover can ask for is excellent writing, and author Joseph Badal delivers in it spades. Highly recommended.
I just finished reading the second book in the Danforth Saga. TERROR CELL. It was just as exciting as the first book was. The author has the ability to make the characters very believable and human. I would buy any book he writes, without a doubt. I have already purchased book 3 in the series, and canntwa
Normally I don't read military stories. However Mr. Basal has a great way of telling them that you have to love the characters and become quite involved in their lives. Once again there were many twists and turns in the number two volume of "The Danforth Saga" wonderful ending. Just desserts for some real maggots.
Characters and the plot a bit confusing. Cut down to the basics it's simple enough... a planned terrorist attack on the Greek Olympics must be stopped. I enjoyed the first Danforth novel a bit more, and will still move on to number three.
I'm a big fan of books that continue in a series. This one doesn't disappoint. The characters continue to develop and grow. The book has just the right amount of intrigue and suspense to keep me reading day and night
Badal writes crisply and defines characters so that you know who and what they are. Some books give descriptions of their characters that are so badly written that you have to get back to the page where s/he was introduced to see about whom the author is talking. That is not the case in Badal's writing skills. Short chapters give the reader the impression that things are moving quickly and something is happening. I like Mr. Badal's skills--crisp writing, good grammar, good plot that it's hard to lay the book/ipad down, and interesting characters. I've now read three of the six Danforth Saga books and can't wait to see what I'll be immersed in number four, The Lone Wolf . Thank you Mr. Badal. You've given this reader a place to escape other than my self-imposed quarantine. Yes, I have been reading during the coronavirus and Mr. Badal has introduced me to the Danforth's--a very interesting and remarkable family. Thank you!
This suspense thriller is set in Athens Greece just before the start of the 2004 Olympics. A Greek terrorist organization plans to overthrow government and return Greece to the status quo of 30 years ago. When British and American diplomats are assassinated, CIA veteran Bob Danforth is sent to Athens to find and stop the terrorists. The Greek government is apparently powerless to stop the terrorism, likely due to infiltration. The Greek terror cell has contacts with terrorist organizations around the world, and as the Olympics approach, they put many plans into action. The story has many subplots, and it takes more than half the book to provide the necessary background, which makes it fairly easy to put down. Once the action is underway, the book's structure and pacing mimics a Tom Clancy thriller.
Author Joseph Badal has written a fast-paced, action-packed thriller in his book Terror Cell. Set in Athens, Greece, Badal pits his protagonists, Bob Danforth and his team of CIA operatives, against Greek Spring, a fictional terrorist group that has been operating with impunity in Greece for two decades. Not knowing who to trust is only part of the problem Danforth faces. The terrorists have planned a series of terror attacks that the CIA team believes will culminate with some sort of grand attack at the Olympic games. As the assassinations and bombings evolve, Danforth realizes that they may they not succeed in bringing down Greek Spring. Not only that, but he also may not survive the effort.
I recommend Terror Cell to anyone who loves thrillers. For those who are not sure, I recommend they read this book to find out if they might be. An easy, quick read, this book will satisfy any reader’s desire for action, suspense, and conflict. The author’s descriptions of the neighborhoods and suburbs of Athens are an added plus. Read it!
