Evie Ross and her sister Suda Kaye received a stack of letters once their mother passed away from cancer. For years, Evie watched their mother flit in and out of their lives while filled with the wanderlust spirit. Meanwhile, Evie's father was in the military and she only saw him sporadically. Whenever their mother traveled, Evie and Suda Kaye stayed on the reservation with their Comanche grandfather. They were quite close.
When the girls read their letters, Evie 20 and Suda Kaye 18, Suda Kaye followed their mother's footsteps and traveled for years. However, Evie stayed put. She finished college, obtained a degree and developed a very successful career in finance. The letters the girls got from their mother were to be read each year on their birthdays. These letters proved to be quite a guiding force for Evie.
When Evie is thirty years old, her life is coming along quite nicely. In fact, so is Suda Kaye's. In fact, Suda Kaye is now married and giddy and wants the exact same for Evie. When Milo Chavis expresses interest in Evie, Suda Kaye pushes Evie to accept Milo's attentions. Evie and Milo have a past - he once protected her from bullies. She has been in love with him since she was eight years old. Milo is now in the finance business and he proposes a collaboration of sorts. However, it soon becomes quite apparent that Milo has much more than business on his mind.
In this wonderfully warm story, we see the challenges Evie faced growing up, especially as she was fair and blond, although half Native American. Falling for a sexy Native American man is truly her heart's desire. However, will the baggage she has been carrying for years going to present and insurmountable challenge when it comes to what could be a marvelously happy future?
I loved this book. I loved reading of modern-day Native American culture mixed with today's expectations. I loved the reality of someone who loved a parent dearly, although that parent was not really there for them. I also loved the fact that Evie's mother left the girls letters, letters opened yearly that helped to guide them through life. Lastly, I loved the ending and the additional character that would no doubt have an affect on Evie's life and future.
What a fabulous book! To Catch a Dream is the second book in the Wish series. The first book, What the Heart Wants, was just as wonderful as this one. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I pretty much can guess who the female protagonist will be in that book.
Many thanks to HQN and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Sisterhood for the win! To Catch a Dream is such a heartwarming story. A story about sisterhood, courage and believing in one's self. A beautifully written story that makes you want to put yourself out there and reach for the stars. I cant wait to see whats next and experience that emotional rollercoaster all over again.
This is a Women's Fiction/Romance, and this is the second book in the Wish series. This book as a lot of Native American's in it. I have to say I felt this book was just ok. I really did not like how some of the characters talk to each other because it just did not feel real. The storyline was good, and I loved the ending. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
First off from someone that does not look like a Native American, I fully felt a lot like Evie in To Catch a Dream in some way. Most of my life people never would have thought that I am Native American when I truly am. I am Creek and Cherokee Indian. I am Creek from my mother side of the family and Cherokee from what I call my donor. Now for my honest review! This author brings out the best and worst in you. I mean this in the best way possible. I love Audrey for always stepping outside of the box. For always being so open to different cultures and different races. To Catch a Dream was truly a dream that I am sure most of us have dreamed and made many wishes in our lives. Evie and Milo blow my mind. I am not a straight woman but Milo's dominant personality could kind of make a girl go straight. Just kidding this book was life, I did not want to put it down. It even took me a minute to read it as this was the slowest I have ever read a book because I didn’t want to put it down nor for it to end so soon. What this story does is make you love harder. Feel more, learn to live and let go. Learn to live freely without fear. Trusting in the unknown makes you stop feeling like you have to be 100% in control of everything in our lives. Evie was put in a place to grow up a lot faster than she needed to. Evie was a love child, that developed a love so deep that it scared her. Once she saw that, that one true love was standing right in front of her she had no choice but to walk into it with the strength of Milo. Milo is a man with a plan, so strong, determined, hard to let go when he wants something. He is a man that when he feels and sees the right thing right in front of him he will do any and everything in his life to make it happen so that he can keep it. I cried a few times because I was that girl that lost a mother at a very young age after feeling like she spent most of her time away from me. But in the end I had to learn that my mother had to live her life so different from mine because it was what made her happy. I loved everything about this book and I want more. I am a selfish reader, when you pull me in I need more than what I am given. I encourage every single human to stop and read this book. I will testify that it is a top rated book with someone's love, compassion, wishes, surprises, determination, loss, pain and the will to live freely. The surprise at that end once another loss comes will bring more happiness. I love how these two sisters love, I love how they can be open with their true feelings and walk in forgiveness. Once again love wins in my book. To Catch a Dream we all need a Dream and those that come true. Thank you Audrey Carlan for another great story.
There is so many great things to say about this book, it is a must read. It definitely put me through an emotional rollercoaster. I cried, I laughed & I smiled. This book will steal your heart. It will make you fall in love with yourself & believe in love. You are enough , you just have to find all the good & allow yourself to see it. If you have any doubt that you deserve love then you definitely need to read this book. It will make you see that there are always positives in your life & never give up. Open your eyes to see your beautiful self.
Evie will make you fall in love!! She is an independent woman who is so used to taking care of others that she puts herself last. She's afraid to fall in love because she's afraid that that person will just walk away. She doesn't believe she's good enough for someone to love her & want to put her first. She finally finds that love in Milo, the guy she's been crushing on since she was 8. He will prove to her that she is worthy of love.
Milo is straight alpha. He is determined to make Evie his no matter what she says. He will find every way possible to push himself into her life even if she wants it or not. He wants to show her that he can love her just the way that she wants. She is his priority and will be his number one.
The love & connection that Evie & Milo have is so strong. You can feel the love radiating off of them as you read the book. Evie is used to holding all of her feelings inside but Milo helps her express them. He comforts her through everything, he never leaves her side. He is the man of her dreams.
I’ve never read any Audrey Carlan’s books before TO CATCH A DREAM, but I know for sure, this won’t be my last one! She hooked me from the very first page and never let me go! Audrey sure knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat while reading and I love when an author does that to me. Evie Ross and her sister Suda Kaye receive a stack of letters once their mother passed away from cancer. Can the story get any stranger than that? Oh yes it can, but you are going to have to read TO CATCH A DREAM to find out. No spoilers here! This is the second book in Audrey Carlan’s Wish series. It is a standalone, but reading the first book would definitely add to the story.
Evie has always been the rock for her family, but now she wants to find her own happiness. She’s afraid to fall in love because she’s afraid that that person will just walk away, just like everyone in her life has done. As Evie finally has her sister home, she is feeling that life is a little more settled. Then her all time crush, Milo suddenly starts paying attention to her and she does not know what to do with it. The twists and turns just keep coming. So much so, that you won’t be able to put TO CATCH A DREAM until the very end. My emotions were all over the place while reading and as soon as I was finished, I immediately checked on Goodreads for more of her books!
Overall, TO CATCH A DREAM is a book I can say nothing but fantastic things about. There is so much heart in Audrey’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart, very happy. All of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time. I look forward to reading Ms. Carlan’s previous books that I haven’t gotten to yet as well as her future ones. There is so much going on in this story, but Audrey does a wonderful job of weaving all the pieces together. All of the characters will have you feeling sad and then smiling on the same page. Once you finish devouring this story, you are going to want to tell everyone you know about this awesome book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harper Collins through Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.
I love that this series is about family and sisterhood. It's about the journey and also has the romance aspect to it.
Evie and Milo's journey to each other was fated...and twisted...But, I loved Milo's approach to it even though he did come off as a bit overbearing. I like that he was determined to go after what he wanted but, was also patient with Evie while firm and straightforward.
I liked that the "hard" lessons were shown in this book. Evie seems put together on the outside but, has so much going on on the inside. These characters are multilayered.
Lots of surprises, lots of love and support, lots of lessons learned. I believe readers will be pleased with how it ends. Really nice read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin- Romance for an egalley in exchange for an honest review.
The second book in the Wish series, this was my first Audrey Carlan read and I enjoyed it much more than I had anticipated. I found myself drawn into Evie's story of feeling out of place on her family's reservation and constantly living with the feeling of being abandoned by all those she loves. In walks a childhood crush, Milo, a Native American, who often came to the blond-haired, blue-eyed Evie's rescue when she was younger. Their relationship was one that I enjoyed and I didn't feel as cynical about this fictional romance. I appreciated that it wasn't too gushy-gushy and there was a good meaty story with Evie dealing with unresolved conflict with her sister and also with her identity. It felt real enough to keep me interested and I may be interested in continuing the series.

This is the second book in Audrey Carlan’s Wish series. It is a standalone, but reading the first book would add to the story. Evie has always been the caretaker, especially for her sister Suda Kaye. She doesn’t trust easy and when her long time crush, Milo, makes his intentions on making her his known, she once again doesn’t trust it. This series is differ than Audrey’s typical romance. It is more in the women’s fiction, but it definitely still has her heat. I loved this book and watching Milo convince Evie that what they had was real and solid. I also loved watching Evie and her sister work through their relationship. There are also some twists and turns that in the end just makes you smile. This book also focuses on Natvie American culture, which I found added to the story and made it more interesting. Great book.
This is definitely a "lift your spirits" kind of book! It will give you all the emotions: homesickness, love, appreciation, sadness and even a warm fuzzy feeling. The characters are great with the right amount of depth. The story line was great and with awesome visuals and description.
There was a lot going on toward the end of the book, so I know that next book will be good! Bring it on, I'm ready!!!
Evie Ross is a mess. She basically took care of her little sister all her life as her father was in the military and constantly deployed, and her mother was a wandering spirit that often left her children with her father while she was gone for long periods of time. When she returns home, Evie is 15 and her mom has stage four cancer. She takes Evie and Suda Kaye to Pueblo, Colorado where they live for four years until she dies. Evie struggled after her mother passed away and her sister moved away and took on the vagabond life their mother did. In Evie's mind she is not good enough for anyone she loves to stay. When Suda Kaye convinces Evie to fill in for a belly dancing performance, she was actually trying to set her up with Milo, her crush since she was only eight year old. Milo, had decided it is time to claim Evie as his own. She tries as much as she can to steer clear, but those feelings are still there. Will they be able to deal with the issues between them to have a relationship?
There were so many things I loved about this book, but the couple niggles I had caused me to rate this one a bit lower. First, I really wish I had read the first book in this series, I think I missed a lot of back story that would have made a few things clearer. Evie has so many negative emotions and feelings about herself. She is extremely insecure and Milo wants her to understand that she is perfect just the way she is. She is half Native American and half blonde, blue-eyed European American. She refers to having a foot in two worlds and not belonging in either. Milo is full-blooded Navajo and his mother is not happy with a relationship with a woman who reminds her of his first wife who treated him badly. Milo doesn’t back down and also sticks up for Evie. In business Evie is smart and savvy which I did like, as she was a well-respected and smart business owner. Milo was a swoon-worthy hero, but better suited to Victorian times. That is the one thing I didn't like about this book. He was a bit like a caveman when it came to his relationship with Evie and that rubbed me the wrong way. I love Toko, Evie's grandfather who did not leave the reservation. He is her rock and anchor, the one she turns to when she needs some grounding. As the story progresses, there are a lot of things that had me tearing up, but you will have to read this book yourself to what they are. The final plot twist was unexpected, but sets up the final book in this trilogy. I learned a few things about Native American life and culture, which seemed to be well-researched. Overall, an enjoyable story, that I recommend to those who enjoy contemporary romance. I will warn you, there are a few rather descriptive sexual encounters, so be prepared. I was gifted a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.
This is the first book where I couldn't put it down for the first paragraph. Audrey did an amazing job at recreating a storyline for an authentic native American tribute for how they are and what they respect. This book will speak to your soul in ways you never thought possible. The love that is shared in this book you can feel from every page. If you want a book where you just get good vibes and soul clenching love definitely check out this series! ✨ ❤
This story is sensational and will have you wanting to wish on your very own star, so all your dreams come true. Evie is such a beautiful soul who puts those she loves before herself. All she needs in life is for someone to love her completely and never leave or let her go. Unfortunately, people have left Evie her whole life, so it has broken her in ways she has to learn and heal from. Until she meets her perfect match in Milo. He is steadfast and wise and never wastes time on words or emotions if he doesn’t mean them. You need to read this book for the bluff, the wishes, the letters, and the reservation alone. This story captivated me from start to finish because I felt Evie was an extension of my heart, as I too put everyone I love before myself. To Catch A Dream has carved out a special place in my heart as it reminds me that when you find your person, they will love you enough to stay!!!!
This book was beyond my expectations and left me speechless the turn at the end I did not see coming but was totally welcome. Evie and Milo have the sweetest love story with such an amazing backstory and culture. Audrey did it again she left me breathless and I could not put this book down until I finished it.
When I was asked to read this book I was a bit cautious having never heard of the author and having read some reviews online that were less than flattering I was skeptical I would like the book.
I was wrong. Like very wrong on so many levels.
First off this being the second book in a series I thought I would be lost as that is what usually happens. Nope, I was able to follow along with little trouble in fact this book could be read as a stand-alone.
Second, the author pulled me in. From the get-go, I wanted to know about our heroine and her life growing up. As the story progressed I just got even more involved.
Then throw in a handsome leading man and I was hooked. Our leading man was strong, caring, and didn't take any crap from anyone. He even was strong enough to love our leading lady when she wasn't even able to love herself.
I found this story to be very good. It took me on a journey of love, self-discovery, self-healing, and growth. It had romance, mystery, and a huge twist at the end that I did not see coming.
Overall a wonderful and delightful read that left me feeling emotionally drained and oh so happy.
Just when I think she can’t write a better book than ... what the Heart Wants) she dose !!!!! To catch a Dream is a amazing book . Evie and Milo are destined to be together, even with all the hearth aches they go through in life to fine each other again . It will warm your heart and make you cry . It will definitely speak to your heart ❤️. And that ending OMG never in a million years saw that coming 😬. I seriously couldn’t put it down.I’m part Indian also and all the information on there ways included are well researched. Thank you Audrey Carlan... you did it again ... a amazing book in deed ♥️♥️ Can’t wait to read book #3 😬
Amazing writing! Audrey makes you feel like you are there looking at the sunrise with Evie. I felt for her in times of happiness and sorrow. Evie has been a rock for everyone else it's now time for her to catch her dream. But, can she do it? Can she stop and think about what she wants for once in her life without thinking about what's best for anyone else. If she does will it all blow up in her face or will she be able to finally catch her dream? You will have to read to find it! This is a standalone but would highly recommend reading What the Heart Wants first.
Audrey Carlan did it again. To Catch A Dream was a moving and emotional story of love, loss, and new beginnings.
Evie and Milo’s love story was years in the making and you felt every emotion that they were both going through. Evie’s pain and loss. Milo’s love and devotion. They were meant to be together. He knew it … she took some convincing. But, what I enjoyed most of all was the history between the two of them. I loved reading Indian history, the customs, and the ways on the reservation. I adore Toko. His love for these grandchildren and his respect for those around him are heart-warming.
There was a little bit of everything in this beautiful story. Love, hate, regrets, loss. But, it’s life. It’s what we all go through every day. I think that’s one of the reasons why I enjoy Audrey Carlan. Everything is true to life. She understands and conveys with some of the most beautiful words, the way of the world. The emotions she wrote from both Evie and Suda Kay were unbelievable. You felt their pain, their loss yet, had to smile when Suda Kay showed us the silver lining and brought humor to the situation.
I cannot wait to read more of the Wish series. The characters and history are interesting. Each story has a meaning behind it that brings hope and happiness to the reader. Audrey Carlan writes stories that resonate within your soul. Here’s to hoping that all your dreams come true.
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
This is the second book in the series and I would definitely recommend that you read them in order. I loved that we got Evie's story, as Suda Kaye starred in book 1 and her viewpoints were very different.
As Evie finally has her sister home, she is feeling that life is a little more settled. Then her all time crush, Milo suddenly starts paying her attention, and really she does not know what to do with it. It is disconcerting, and as everyone always leaves her, she is not really ready to believe that this could be real, or permanent.
It was great fun to catch up with everyone from the first book, and to see a settled, married, successful-business owning Suda Kaye. That she got to double date with her sister and encourage her to enjoy Milo's attention, is a bonus, but it also brings up a lot of Evie's issues with being abandoned. They both need to find each other again, and for Evie, she finds that she needs to return to her Grandfather's and regroup. I found it very moving that she has to work through so many issues that she has just ploughed through for years.
Milo was described with great care in 'What the Heart Wants', so we know the basics - and of Evie's unrequited love for him. This time we get her more sensual descriptions of his silky black hair, his looks, his body, and we also learn about his past, his heart and his ex-wife. He is a strong character, but not overbearing - which works well with Evie's nature, and gives us a sigh of relief that he is going to be strong for her, but not too strong for her.
The story takes a very interesting turn towards the end, and whilst I guessed it in part, it definitely means that the next book will be very interesting indeed!
The lens through which we see life, our life and the lives of others around us, is focused but from our own perspective. It’s the shades and blending, the rays of sunshine and the shadows of the dark, that define our perspective in a singularly, unique way.
For as much as Evie (Taabe in Comanche) loved her mother Catori Ross, she was deeply hurt and angered by her need for adventures which took her away from the reservation, her, her younger sister Suda Kaye, and Tahudsa, her grandfather.
“I had to chase my dreams, Taabe. One day, you’ll understand.”
As a result, Evie chose a solid career path, getting her Master’s degree in Finance, and setting up a successful business as a financial advisor. She kept her feet firmly planted near home, as opposed to her younger sister Suda Kaye, who chose to follow the same path as their Mother, traveling across the world for ten years, before finally coming home to her and her boyfriend, now husband Camden.
Now at age thirty, with her sister finally by her side, Evie realized she wasn’t happy. After all that success, she hadn’t really achieved her dreams.
Her grandfather Tahsuda had once told her, “Dreams are not only for the sleeping. They are meant to be chased and caught.”
Since running into her lifelong crush Milo Chavis months ago, when he worked with Camden to help get Suda Kaye’s Gypsy Soul boutique up and running, Evie had avoided him. Why? Milo was a 6’4” strikingly handsome Native American, with broad shoulders and chest, long, silky, black hair you could run your fingers through and get lost in.
Could it be fate calling or just another dream that would never come true?
I think one of the aspects of this book and the series I loved most though, was the sisterhood between Evie and Suda Kaye. No matter how old, no matter the circumstance, when they were together, it was like two young sisters, giggling, laughing, loving, crying, and always, always, supporting one another. It brought back so many memories of me and my sisters growing up, and through the years since. The bonds of sisterhood know no bounds.
I have loved this series from the very start and Evie’s story really hit home with me. She was the conservative one, the one who got her education, the one who played it safe, only to realize years later, she hadn’t really achieved her dream.
So as Audrey says in her opening Note to Readers, it’s never too late to, “…throw caution to the wind and go after what it is you want in life.”
This is painful. I don’t know where to start. I can’t think of this story without my eyes leaking. It was profound. It was awe-inspiring. It was beautiful. It was painful. It was life.
To Catch a Dream was more than a mere romance journey; womens fiction books rarely are. Don’t get me wrong, there is a romance happening here, but there’s also a life journey happening. A journey of letting the past be what it is, past. A journey of love and family and friendship and sisterhood. A story of life.
I found the power behind Audrey Carlan’s words when I read Wild Child and she did not disappoint with this story. I do however wish that I had read the first in the series before I dove in. That’s just a me thing because of the sister and family aspect of the journey, but I’m quite sure I could not have enjoyed this story any more than I already did either way. The story is captivating and hopeful and full of heart! Well done!
WOW!!! Is the first thing that came to mind after finishing To Catch A Dream. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride from beginning to end. At one point I had to put the book down for 2 full days before I could pick it up again. I felt every single feeling the Evie had because of how this book was so masterfully written. With each new hurdle that is put in front of her you can’t help but want to pull her in the direction of her true love. She deserves every happiness in the world after everything she went through. But you can also understand her hesitance to want to jump in heart first. I have never had a deeper connection to a single character in a book before. I loved every aspect of this book. Thank you for this amazing book and I am beyond excited to see where this series goes. 5 Stars!!!!!
Definitely need to read What The Heart Wants, it’s the first book in the Wish series.
In the first book we traveled the world with Suda Kaye. In this book Evie is up, we learn that she has some insecurities issues, that she is working in. It takes one stubborn Milo. To see what is underneath that tough skin. Together the sisters experience loss and grief. And a twist that turns the sisters life’s upside down.
This is an emotional book! Audrey You have done it again. I needed tissues on some parts. The things the sisters have gone through. I feel for Evie. She wants stability in life. She has both feet planted on the ground. Her mother was a free spirit. When the feeling hit her she left her daughters with her father on the reservation. Their mother left them with stacks of letters to be read on their birthday. Suda Kaye is more like their mother. She packed up her suitcase and left to find herself just like her mom. These sisters go through some emotional things together. I definitely needed tissues. I couldn’t put it down. I loved this story.
To Catch a Dream, book two in the Wish series, centers on the Ross sisters, with this book focusing on the older sister, Evie. I was a bit nervous to read this as I haven't yet read book one, What the Heart Wants, but this book is great a standalone. I had no problem getting the gist of the relationship and lives of the Ross sisters.
Evie has always been the person in her small family that "stays". She's plagued with abandonment issues and the way that's affected her self-esteem and sense of belonging. Her father was in the military and was frequently stationed without his family. Her mother, now-deceased, traveled the world while Evie and her sister Suda were raised by her grandfather. And finally, how Suda follows her mother's path and left at eighteen to travel as well. Ten years later Evie approaches all of her relationships, with caution.
I appreciate that Audrey Carlan shows the reader Evie's insecurities and what triggers her issues of trust. She's a long way off from her youth on the Comanche reservation, but the ostracizing she experienced follows her and colors the way she views the world. Her life begins to open up as she begins dating the man who was her childhood crush, Milo. His Alpha ways help to breakdown the barriers she's built. The romance is sweet and heartfelt once the bossy Milo calms down a bit. Evie and Suda, sisters and best friends, will face some strife and reckoning as Evie allows herself to express the disappointments she experiences, feeling left behind.
It's a well-written story and well-paced to showcase Evie's growth. I also loved the fact that the story is partially set in my hometown. This feel-good story also includes a twist that looks to lead to an addition to the series ! 4 Stars and recommendation.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
5 Star Review To Catch A Dream (Wish #2) by Audrey Carlan Book two in the wishes series and this was a beautifully written, emotional, heart felt story that ticked the boxes for me. This was a book that gave me all the feels. This time we are with Evie Ross, a woman who always puts everyone first. Milo Chavis and Evie have history and she has been in love with him since she was a child. Now it appears that he has noticed her and Suda Kaye pushes Evie to go after her own happily ever after. Her relationship with her sister has grown now that Suda Kaye has returned and that added an additional layer to the story. To Catch A dream is an emotional read at times as every year on her birthday, Evie opens a letter from her mother who wrote them prior to her death and she uses them as a guiding light. If only Evie can get over the baggage from her past, she might just forge a future with Milo who I loved. This is a heart warming story of love and family and one that got to me. The Native American heritage added an additional touch. One click this little gem, you won’t be disappointed.
A fast-paced story about two sisters who are both half Native American. It includes many details about life on the reservation, since that is where they were raised by their Comanche grandfather Toko. Evie and Suda Kaye have absentee parents, so they lean heavily on each other and have developed a strong relationship. I enjoyed the story, the romance, the description of the bluff and the sunsets and the Native funeral rites. I did not, however, like the steamy details of the sex scenes. That detracted from the story for me because I was uncomfortable trying to read these scenes. I honestly admit that after the first one (there were several), I just skimmed or skipped to the next part and did not feel like I missed a lot. I did like, though, the inclusion of Native American language throughout the dialog in the book. That added to the realism and setting, too. I enjoyed the characterization of the major and minor characters and the realistic deference shown to Toko by other members of the tribe, including Milo’s parents. I think my favorite part was how Milo and Evie first met and the fact that their love continued for years. I give this book a 3.5 star rating because it was entertaining and educational about Native American lifestyles. Loved, loved this story of forgiveness, sisterhood, love and just believing in yourself that one does deserve the best in life and to be loved! This was such a beautiful, emotional and heart warming story that will leave your heart full. An absolutely must read!!!
