Jamie was born into a big, crazy family of 6 children. Being the youngest, she always got away with anything and would never shut up. Constantly letting her imagination run wild, her teachers were often frustrated when her ‘What I did on the weekend’ stories contained bunyips and princesses.

Growing up, Jamie did the sensible things and obtained a Bachelor of Business degree from Southern Cross University and worked hard to gain her membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Yet nothing compared to writing. Quitting the rat race to spend quality time with her laptop named Lily, Jamie has written several novels and screenplays. Spanning a number of genres and mediums, Jamie writes whatever inspires her from ghost stories to teenage love stories to tantalising murder mysteries. Nothing is off limits.

A self-confessed television addict, dog lover, Taylor Swift fan, and ghost hunter, Jamie loves nothing more than the thrill of sharing her stories.

2.5 ⭐

I got the paperback of this book at a book signing in 2014, along with book two. but only just starting to read these books 🫣(ok I'm a bookaholic book hoarder)🧐.

I'm undecided if I'll manage to finish book 2 ( I will give it 10 chapters, if it's better edited hopefully l can finish the story)
first, this book is like on turtle 🐢 speed.
first you are starting the book in the middle of the war...
the book is so slow at the building up of the story (15 chapters )and then BAM in 3 chapters it's all over 🧐. and the ending... 😬

the storyline itself has some premise of a good tale of good v evil otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. but the writing style and flat characters that are like teenagers without a clue, rather than saviors of the world.

But there was too much repetitive, unnecessary paragraphs, (constantly reading the prophecy for instance)
I wish a strong content editor had been able to help the author hone the story into a polished version.

I wish I had been reading a digital version so I could have highlighted some as an
example...

but I picked a random sample of the writing
page 165...
one minute 12 men are stabbing and. beating Jerome .. then when he finally decides to defend himself

quote:
Jerome pushed away the men closest to him, with every muscle he had in his arm.
His sudden fight back came as a surprise, the men were not expecting it. He sat up, jumped to his feet as the men started to retreat. As he looked at their faces, he saw the shock and fear in their eyes. He hated the fact that he had put it there. Jerome didn't want anyone to be scared of him, he was a creature of protection not harm.
"get away and let me go" . Jerome boomed, trying to use his voice instead of his hands. Better they hate him because of his words than any injuries.
The men stared at him, suddenly unsure what they should do. Jerome used the time to gather his thoughts, regained his breath again. He looked terrible, a bruised, bloody, and battered mess. He probably did look like a demon to them, yet his appearance was only because of 'their' treatment of him.
"move to the side so I can leave " he ordered again, this time gesturing with his arm so they could see exactly what he meant.

unquote

and so it went on.

anyway...

I just opened book 2 page1 ... first sentence:
"she is so beautiful, my God she is just so beautiful". 😬

I promised 10 chapters but I'm thinking This will be like a painful trip to the dentist.

basically I have spent a week trudging through the whole book to have it end in a cliffhanger after a really dismissal battle.

so yeah 😔. maybe I will just try the first chapter. as I'm really not looking forward to reading it 🫣

So I was slightly skeptical when I started to read this, that I wouldn’t like the book. But after only a few pages in I was hooked. The story of an Angel falling to earth to fall in love with a human was amazing, especially since it’s not allowed. The love story however, really played second fiddle to the actual theme of the book, at least to me.

Jerome is an angel who is fighting a war against demons when he is suddenly attacked inside the angel village, he then falls to earth. Something that never happens. Leila is a human who discovers Jerome after he has fallen and takes him in, this sets them off on their journey to not only find a way to get Jerome home, but a way to defeat the demons.

The world Leila lives in is in tatters. The violence and destruction of earth is happening all around them, and it’s not looking to stop anytime soon. Jerome knows this is because of the shift in the balance of good vs. evil. Discovering the prophecy that can end all the fighting becomes Jerome and Leila’s focus, and upon discovering who is the chosen one is a shock to both of them.

I have to say that I wasn’t happy with the end of the book, it made me sad, but I am truly ready for the second book and the continuation of Jerome and Leila’s story, to see the rebuilding of earth and how they will find their way back.

I don't usually read fantasy novels but I got this copy free from Goodreads and as a believer in Angels I was intrigued as to how they would be portrayed. I wasn't disappointed, it is an easy read in a chick lit kind of way. I loved Jerome and felt he fulfilled my criteria for an angelic being but I was not comfortable with the idea of the Council being less than angelic in character.
I was a bit frustrated in that Jerome and Leila took so long to decipher the prophecy as it seemed quite obvious from early on who the mortal was going to be who would save the world from evil.
I loved the relationship between the two main characters, it felt realistic and not at all soppy and I will be on the look out for Book Two
