Eleven-year-old Winnie Frazier feels very grown-up and mature. When she convinces her mother she is old enough to babysit her younger brother, she thinks life can get no better. However, when a hurricane-force storm moves in, Winnie is left in charge. She faces dangerous winds, a power outage, and no phone service. What is that noise in the basement? And is that a man lurking in the yard? Can Winnie act like the grown-up she professes to be, or will she give in to her fears and crumble when her brother needs her the most?

This was a very quick read about Winnie and Alec, who are allowed to stay home by themselves for the first time. All does not go as planned as a big storm hits and prevents their parents from returning home. I liked this story. We were able to see Winnie step up and do what needed to be done to help her brother feel better during a scary time. Alec also helped his sister by being supportive of her decisions. This is a great story for children, especially babysitting-aged kids.
