Saving Susie

Rate this book
Susie is a pit bull terrier who’s eleven years old, good-natured, and a fugitive from the law. Her owner, Denise Lansing, doesn’t think she has a problem when the city of San Gabriel, Texas, passes a law banning pit bulls. After all, Susie has impeccable manners and stays indoors or in the backyard most of the time. Then the police are at the door.

Denise must act, but her attempts to find a new owner for Susie outside the city have been fruitless; there are no takers for an aging pit bull. So when Denise’s ex-husband finds a home for Susie in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Denise feels she has no choice. A man with a large estate is willing to take the dog, and Steve Wingfield, a skillful and daring pilot, will fly them to the Yucatan.

Denise could easily fall in love with Steve, but it’s obvious there’s something evil happening on the estate where she’s supposed to leave Susie, and she’s wondering how her ex and the fascinating pilot are involved. When the attempts on their lives begin, Denise and Steve have to join forces.

Steve is terrified of dogs due to an incident in his past, and Denise is suspicious of him because of his involvement with her ex. In spite of this, the attraction between them is growing, but before they can concentrate on each other, they must figure out how to save themselves and Susie, who just might end up saving them instead.

Not even sure I wanted to go as high as 2 stars. apparently this author writes short stories and she should have stayed with that genre with a focus. This is one of the most undeveloped books I have read. No character development, no story development. nNot sure why she needed the Mexico element and she obviously struggled to create a plot to encompass it. We never get a conclusion to the breed discrimination issue that kicked off the book and how much better uf that had remained her focus.

It was interesting. It's about a woman who has to find a home for her dog due to law in her country/state that forbids pitbulls. Her son and ex-husband were suppose to be working on this together until one night when the police came knocking and she went out the back door to escape. She calls her husband from a pay phone and he directs her to Mexico and gets an acquaintance (Steve/a lawyer)to take her on his plane. The adventures begins from there of who these people are that her ex-husband sent them to and what is his assoication to them. Now it seems like she and Steve are thrown together in this situation where they to find the true before it is too late.

Not what I expected

First I have to say that I'm a true sucker when it comes to two subjects in books. Dogs is one the other is aviation. So what could be better than a book combining the two. When I bought the book I was under the misguided impression that it was a true story. After reading a while I realized I was wrong. This set me back a little. Also I hate romance novels, which this turned out to be. I read it all and didn't feel as if I had totally wasted my time, so I am giving it four stars. I sure the majority of readers will enjoy it. After all it did cover my two favorite topics.

When I first began reading this book, I just dove right in and didn't read any summaries first, so I thought it was just about the dog, Susie. I was thinking it was kind of over the top the actions they were taking with this dog, but regardless I kept reading. The book was ok. It wasn't really a page turner. I liked it, but it definitely is not one of those that you find yourself thinking about days after you have finished it, if that makes any sense...

This book is much more than a dog story. It is has aspects of mystery, thriller, and romance. Each chapter pulled me along. I didn't want to put it down.
