Penny is a complete romantic who believes everyone can fall in love if only they’ll open their heart to the possibility, which is why she writes those hot, erotic stories that will always have a happily ever after. However, it doesn’t mean she’ll necessarily make it easy for her men to get there. A lover of things that go bump in the night, Penny’s imagination can sometimes run riot, so magic mirrors and evil dolls is only the beginning.

This LHNB event is spoiling me, it's going to be impossible to live with me once it's over. *send thoughts my family's way please*

Yummy athletes with tattoos, I was all over this one people. :)

Danny is an out and proud player and he has an eye on his coach Rick.
Rick is anything but out and proud, and although this one is short and I still had a lot I wanted to know ( yes yes, I am greedy that way) I loved Danny's determination to at least get Rick to listen to him.
It could have been stalkerish, but it wasn't, Rick needed the persistence and push to finally give in and get what he wanted.
It was sweet without being mushy and I liked the ending a bunch.

Playing the Field is a sweet little soccer romance featuring an emotionally conflicted coach and his tenacious player.

Another (free) short story win from Penny Brandon.

Cute, steamy short story featuring soccer players! Le yum! They didn't seem as "alpha" more like beta heroes. But it was worth the read. Danny is gay, out and a professional soccer player. He has a crush on his coach, Rick (who is not out). Rick succumbs to Danny's persistent ways and it was a sexy fall...into bed.

Thanks for the story! :D (Gotta love this event)

Absolutely perfect sports themed contemporary romance - loved it! Just what I was in the mood for so 5 stars!

For me the elements in this story were perfect - the characters, the setting, the plot. It's only a short story but it packed in quite a bit - the sexual tension, the final giving in to temptation and the perfect happy ending.

Rick is the coach. He is closeted and doesn't do casual. Danny is out and proud, with a reputation as a bit of player. I am sure you can guess the rest....:)

There is heaps of sexual tension but the relationship between these two men is more emotional and I loved their coming together.

Only a quick story but I was invested in the characters and I ended with a smile on my face (I'm always a sucker for public declarations!).

I will definitely be checking out more books from this author and have bought one already!

I liked this story. Great strong characters. My time sense was thrown off at one point. and I couldn't really recover it.

[NOTE: I rate most writing event stories (free reads) 4 or 5 stars because of my appreciation of the author's participation.]

Well that’s certainly a super cute bit of athlete hotness! First of soccer players are all just sexy in general, I mean who wouldn’t want that many lithe muscles all focused on them. *drool* Besides I like the fact that this story is about an openly gay player and his closeted coach. It’s a different dynamic.

Danny made the choice when he decided to become a professional soccer player that he wasn’t going to hide who he was in the process. He’s been out and proud the whole time. Now though he’s found that temptation has reached epic proportions and the feelings he has for his new coach are making things difficult for him on the playing field. With his team poised to likely take the championship he needs his focus on the game more than ever. That’s a little easier when he’s not sure of his coach’s feelings for him. One night in the gym changes all that.

Rick has been resisting his feelings for his striker for awhile now. While he’s always been gay he’s never acted on those feelings before. Danny is driving him to distraction though. Still he doesn’t want to become just a mark on Danny’s bedpost. He’s his coach and that has to come first. No matter what he wants for himself those indulgences just aren’t possible. He’s not out and nothing so far has made it worth the risk. Sighing Danny’s name could well prove his undoing though.

So lustful thoughts and all, this book had just the right amount of heat and emotions for me. I love me some athletes in the first place and this story didn’t disappoint for all of its short length. There really isn’t anything more to the story than showing how these two came to find each other, but that seemed to be the perfect thing for this one.

I grinned internally at Danny’s knocking on the door, he just wouldn’t give up and it was fabulous. The immediacy of his response to Rick’s text had me positively gleeful! Some sexy bedroom action and I’m left as one happy camper. Especially after the confrontation with the homophobic asshole in the locker room! Go Rick!!! This one opens up another new potential author for me.

2.5 rounded up.

The first part of this was okay, but the last parts of it really irritated me. There was a lot of drastic changes without much support to show the why.

This was a cute short read that satisfied my desire for some m/m lovin'.

I would have liked a little more explanation about their relationship after their first night together.

Coach and football player lusting then getting it on.
No idea what league they're in.
Suggestion of drama around the edges and what I found an odd vibe. Dnf just past halfway.

Too much focus on the sex, too little on the characters/plot. Too short to be much of anything.

Sweet story about an out soccer player and his in-the-closet coach. The last two scenes bumped it from 3 stars to 4 -- wonderful ending!

I still don't know how to rate this... I liked it indeed but there wasn't much story around the beginning of the budding relationship between the two MCs. It felt like a picture is missing a frame. While the picture is good the frame would have completed it.
Also I would have liked to know what happened after the coming out. Does Rick's reasons for hiding in the closet come true or not?

Yet another LHNB story with sports theme! This time about out and proud soccer player Danny and his closeted coach Rick. Danny knows what he wants and he wants Rick. And he's going to get him! And he does. There's some hot sex and if this one hadn't taken place in a sports setting I would probably have given it another star.

This is the 3rd story I've read by this author, and she has yet to disappoint. Her characters virile, colorful, impassioned and horny men. Even better, these men have hearts as big as their...libidos. What did you think I was going to say.

I'm realizing that I can pick up one of Penny Brandon's books if I'm in the mood for a quick, hot and satisfying M/M read...and she will deliver the goods.

LHNB Story released 12.7.13
Nice story of an out gay footballer and his closeted coach getting together after they've both been lusting after each other for a while. Outside of the start of the relationship however there wasn't much to the story but it was quite a nice light read.

Danny has a thing for his coach. One one hand Danny is out and proud; his coach is not. Luckily, Danny is able to find out the truth about his coach and that is where all the fun begins. Sad it was a short story.

Maybe it's the fact that I read this after reading a "historical" inaccurate crap story that left a sour taste in my mouth but I loved this sweet story.
