Intrigue is appropriately named, as most of the novel is all about the intrigue that Lady Malvina is involved in is slowly revealed in bits. The details of the plot against her needed to be told instead of just revealing bits and leaving the reader wondering if and what more was to come. She is a good mother and protective of her man-child, as he matures into adulthood.
Wolf is angry and does things a young man normally do behind parent's backs but he seems too angry and about what? The author tells of his developing relationship with Samantha, Gideon's younger sister but details of encounters could have added so much to both characters.
Samantha "Sammy" is described in detail as to her appearance but how she feels about her brother and what happened to her as a child is just touched upon. When his guilt keeps him away from her, doing dangerous work for the government, her lonely year of growing up and becoming a young woman needed to be expressed with her emotions the key emphasis.
Gideon, Lord Holt shows his emotions on and off as he falls for Lady Malvina more with his actions than with his thoughts as he keeps his feelings close to the chest and his expression emotionless, with his devil may care attitude front.
The plot was great, the setting and portrayal of the time period was great, but the character development was in need of some more work. I enjoyed the story and want to read more of Jaimey Grant's work in the future; she shows great potential as a writer.
