He's brought her thousands of miles, looking to not be lonely any more. But they both have secrets. Can they bridge the distance between, and find what they're looking for in each other?
Hannah's Fateprequel to Shadowcat Nation by Abigail Owen missing from the re-release) Cougar shifters have allied into groups, together in a rocky alliance to protect themselves against other shifters. Hannah Keller becomes the targeted Mate for Kyle Carstairs, the treacherous soon-to-be Alpha of another group. Meanwhile, Nick Jensen, her childhood hero and longtime secret crush, has returned home with hopes of claiming Hannah for his own. But will he be in time to rescue her from the Carstairs's schemes?
Full Moon by B.R. Kingsolver The full moon can get a girl stirred up, especially with a handsome cowboy paying her way too much attention. If it wasn't for those damned werewolves causing trouble and getting in the way...
Born a Connecticut Yankee in nobody’s court, Mia Darien grew up to brave snow and talk fast. She started reading when she was three and never looked back, soon frequently falling asleep with a book under her cheek. (Something she still does, though these days it’s her Nook as often as a paperback.)
At eleven, she discovered “Night Mare” by Piers Anthony and entered the world of grown-up fantasy fiction and it was all over from there. She started writing at fourteen, then met vampires as a teenager and the concept for what would become Adelheid was soon born. Epic fantasy remains her first love, but she enjoys writing whatever stories come to mind in any genre.
Now she loves both writing and helping her indie community with her freelancing. A geek till the end, she enjoys role-play by email games and World of Warcraft when she has the time. Married to her very own Named Man of the North, she lives with him, their mini-tank (also known as their son) and pets, who usually act more childish than the child.
Oh, my! The entire collection was, admittedly, not my usual cup of tea genre-wise, but I have to say, each story held its own and was engaging beyond the romance label. Overall, Jessica Nicholls' story, "In Our Nature", stole the show. The shapeshifter romance between Mira and Daniel, set in the wilds of Wisconsin, was written with excellent characterization and a plot that used the classic slow build model to perfection. My hope is that Jessica will continue to share her talents with us on a more frequent basis.
I loved this! Each author brings a unique story and style to the table, but they all write about valorous big cats. All proceeds are donated to a big cat sanctuary as well. How can that combination possibly fail? Each short story has vibrant, memorable characters, a rich plot, and totally captures the readers.
Here, Kitty Kitty... indeed!! Read a couple stories, will read the rest as soon as I can. Thanks to Abigail and the prequel to her Shadowcat Nation series, I "discovered" this anthology! A cat shifter collection of stories all written specifically for this anthology, with ALL the profits from sales of this anthology going directly to the EFRC - Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana - well that is one ABSO-SHIFTIG-LUTELY FELINETASTIC CLAWS, I mean CAUSE to support!!
Hannah's Fate (Shadowcat Nation book prequel) by Abigail Owen
So it would probably help if we…spooned.
Did he really say that? Or was it just wishful hearing? AWWWWW! What a PURRFECT little cougar love tail!! Hannah is a character I could totally relate with - excluding the shifter part of course! I'm sure we can all remember a teen crush gone wrong? And who wouldn't want a sexy, FURLICIOUS guy like Nick for a mate... even if it is just pretend! This is my first time reading anything by Abigail, but consider me caught! I love how much story there is in this prequel! Even though this is a short story, I was COMPLETELY CATIVATED by it from beginning to end!! Abigail is one FURRIFIC author who certainly knows how to take the PAWFECT amount of history, backstory, current story along with all things cougar (and more!) and intertwine it all together into one FANGTASTIC short story that has me super excited to read the rest of this series!
His Jaguar Princess by A. Star aka Diantha Jones
Thinking about having me for dessert, my little jaguar princess?”
I nodded. “With all the toppings.” WOW! What a WONDERFURRY intriguing story! I love the uniqueness of it all from the "shifters in the open", how each cat species ranks & compares against each other, and of course the concept of Purr, Inc.! This is my first taste of this author's writing, regardless which name she writes under! But consider me JAGUARTASTICALLY captivated and PURRRING for more! Cat scratch fever now has a whole new meaning! wink "I knew his imagination was running wild, Serengeti-style." Trust me, It's not just Luke's imagination was running wild, Serengeti-style.
I’ve only read one story so far: Full Moon, but it by itself is enough to warrant downloading the collection. Full Moon is a fun short story for fans of BR Kingsolver’s Rosie O'Grady's Paranormal Bar and Grill series. Isabella is one of my favorite supporting characters in that series, though this story totally stands alone (and I cannot tell where it would fit in the overall series). This story was a lot of fun, and proves to me what I suspected: that Isabella could easily hold up her own series. As for this tale? Easy to highly recommend.
Addendum: Ok, I’ve now read the others. All 4-5 stars. My two favorites (after Full Moon) were His Jaguar Princess and Hannah’s Fate. Both are shifter romances (Full Moon really is true urban fantasy starring a shifter), and if you like that genre (which I do) they’re also worth 5 stars. Still easy to highly recommend this collection.
Good stories that the authors might have never written if it weren't for this cause. I'll admit, I bought it to support the big cat sanctuary, but the stories made me glad I did. The different way each author took their story, even if they tend to end them abruptly, was wide ranging.
I got this to read Hannah’s Fate. 4 star novella. My review: This was a cute little novella. Very short, so not a whole lot of development for the characters or the romance, but the world building and storyline was still reasonably well done considering how short it was.
I read this as one story in a compilation called “Here kitty kitty”.
I was very glad to find this book. I have always been interested in cats of all sizes, and I hope more books like this are published, to both educate and entertain the public. Many thanks to all the authors who took the time to write these wonderful stories!
I got to learn about big cat and read some very interesting short stories. This introduced me to authors I have not read before but will be looking into some of them.
I only read The Distance Between so this review is in relation to that story only. Perhaps because it was a short story and ended sooner than I would have liked, I didn't get a chance to really connect with everyone. However, I do think it has potential to be a great read. This is my first story by the author so there may be more to it, but just as I was starting to get to know the characters, we were at the end and I think there needs to be more details on their pasts to really connect with them.
In general, it isn't bad, just missing some details IMO. If you like shifter books, this was ok to me, but you may love it and if bundled, probably a great deal too.
Understandably, I'm a tad biased. But I thought this was great. I thought the stories were strong, romantic and each with their own unique spin on the paranormal romance genre.
