PRINCESS.
Luella Eritrais is the fae Princess of the Kingdom of Sunlight, Solis. In a world that values power above all else, Luella was born bereft of magic, locked away and forced into a sheltered life. Amidst a backdrop of warring kingdoms, Luella wants nothing more than safety and peace—to find her place in the world—even when everyone seems to scream that she is nothing.

PRISONER .
One night, Luella wakes from bed, dragged from her dreams by the sound of screams, a dagger against her throat as she is ripped away from everything she has ever known. Taken prisoner by her kingdom’s enemy, Serpentis, a land of dragons and snakes, her family is dead, and her kingdom is in ruins. Chained, she must travel to Serpentis to hear her fate. And the ruling? Princess Luella is to be a prisoner for the rest of her days—the Cruel Dragon King’s war trophy. So, she will go from one cage to the next. But deep in the dungeons below, she meets a demon who proclaims he’s been waiting for her for lifetimes…

DECEIVED.
Nestled in the depths of a forgotten library and under glimmering, enchanted candlelight in a wicked court, Luella slowly unravels the threads of lies tangled around her. She must grapple between what she has been taught and the truth before her, all while under the watchful eye of the cunning King Vale and his court: the vampiric advisor, the psychotic high mage, and the secretive raven shifter. In this den of decadent deceit, the captive princess uncovers more and more of her past and learns of the looming darkness that threatens to destroy them all.

This is messy. Errors starting in the glossary where beings and places are described differently than in the actually text of the book*...the writing is repetitive and verbose...there are hanging participles all over the place, incomplete sentences, narration switches from 3rd person to 1st person at least twice that I've counted so far....descriptions of characters are repeated over and over to the point it's become excessive and feels unnecessarily redundant. While sensory details can enhance character profiles, in this case, descriptions of the eyes and smells of different characters are so overused here that they’ve completely lost their impact.

The FMC (Luella) is severely underdeveloped. In 150 pages, I think she's spoken maybe 50 words and they were flat and added no insight to the reader as to WHO she actually is. Really, I have no idea who this character is. She was idiotic and meek from what I read because that's what her inner thoughts as well as what came out of her mouth told me. I also don't know who the narrator is supposed to be. It's written in 3rd person, but frankly with the type of information we get, you might as well have just made it 1st person.

The dialogue amongst characters is also flat, and sparse…it gave....literally nothing.

If this went through a round of editing, I MIGHT** pick it up again, but for a book that's over 7 HUNDRED pages.....it's not at the level it needs to be for me to spend this much energy trying to follow along.

I do not recommend this book until this author has had the opportunity to take a beat and do some editing.

*In the glossary, the 'Above' is defined as a place where 'Demons' reside, but later in the glossary, 'Demons' are described as beings that reside in the ‘Below’, *not* the Above. I believe this is a simple typo, however this is the glossary, and the first pages readers flip through. First impressions do matter!

Excited to read this debut from an indie author!

No magic, no family, no kingdom—just a dragon king who wants her as a trophy and a demon claiming he’s her destiny. It’s giving hot mess in the best way.

F-ing finally finished it. I kept waiting for something to happen and it didn’t. Not a single damn thing.

FMC is a dumb weak bitch and the 5 MMCs are one dimensional fuck boy liars that smell like really inane things like: snow, and cedar and bergamot and brimstone. And if I have to read one more eye color description I’ll cut my own eyes out. I get it, the crow man with lapis lazuli eyes is really wild. But every page doesn’t need to remind me he has these eyes.

She blushes a lot. There’s one kiss. They are possessive about her for some reason and the guy who swears to protect her with his life might be the worst body guard to ever exist, like he’s worse than JFK’s and we all know how that ended up.

The book has a lot of unnecessary descriptions and a fuck ton of editing issues. And to top it off the author loves her thesaurus and uses big words like an idiot. Two examples: concupiscence and pulchritudinous. If you’re going to be a pretentious asshole using SAT vocab maybe don’t have so many grammatical and structural errors in your story.

I’m so pissed I read this

I liked the plot and characters for the most part and am interested to see where the story goes in the next book. The slow burn was great. The mystery of the plot is compelling. That said, the story did feel drawn out and a bit repetitive at times. Additionally, there were some spelling and grammatical errors that took me out of the story that the editor should have caught. Overall I would continue the series and will give the next book a chance. I am hoping the FMC comes into her power and is less meek in the next book.

I had the absolute pleasure of receiving an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I’ve been following the author on TikTok and was so interested by the teasers. And boy did this book not disappoint! It not only was amazing, but it exceeded my expectations!!

Everything about it was utterly captivating. I genuinely couldn’t put it down. The world building, the enchanted vibes, the characters. Don’t even get me started! I’m a sucker for a soft fmc, and I feel like lately, there’s not enough of them, especially in rh book. Luella was a heroine that I absolutely adored. She was soft and gentle, yet had an underlying current of strength and competence. I’m so curious about how she’ll evolve over the next books…

Let’s talk about what we all want to hear: THE MEN. Omfg, the men. This book was a true enemies to lovers. I found myself so angry with the way they treated Luella. Except for Az, he’s the loml, and I need him biblically. Graves was so secretive and quiet, I just know he’s a freak🤭 Tharen upset me a few times, but idk, I feel like he’ll end up being sweet? We’ll just have to wait and see. I LOVED Bastian. He was so flirty and fun, and don’t even get me started on the library scene. Hello? It reminded me so much of beauty and the beast. And finally, Vale. Ooof. I don’t know where to start with the dragon king. I’m still curious about him. I feel like he remained an enigma for most of the book, until the end iykyk.

Everything about this book just left me so excited for the next. I felt like I stepped into a fairytale—a dark one, but enchanting all the same.

This book has made its way into the list of my favorite why choose romances.

How does one have five mmc's and only one of them has good qualities and the other one can be redeemed. I dont really enjoy reading an over 700 page book and we only see growth with the fmc in the last 30 pages. The mmc's dont really want her for her either, they just want to own her like shes some kind of object that they can wield. Mind you this is how Vale talked about her. Things were repetitive, the fmc had little to no growth, the men such BADLY, and shes not going to give them enough hell for my liking in the next book.

Wow!!!!!
I am honestly shocked by the amount of bad reviews, because I have not read a book this good in what feels like a long time. From page one, I was hooked and completely lost in the story. I’m even more surprised that this is the author’s first book, just incredibly talented!

I’ve seen people mention spelling mistakes and a POV slip here and there, but I must have been devouring this so hard that I didn’t even notice. The characters are fantastic, written with realistic flaws that make them feel real, and I’m genuinely excited to continue getting to know each and every one of them. It is also such a huge relief when someone actually knows how to write a mature reverse harem, no cringe, just depth and balance.

This was the perfect escapism read for me. Do keep in mind that there is no spice in this one, but honestly, I can tell it will be worth the wait when it comes. :p

The book was long, yet somehow not long enough, I never wanted it to end. I’m so excited to pick up the next one, but I have no idea what I’ll do with myself while waiting for the rest of the series to release.

This book is barely worth 3 stars. Slow burn my ass there is NO spice. It was long for no reason & I hated the ending. I’d rather read a long asf book then a shorter one with a bad ending bc u wanna write two books. I liked the character development but again, no resolution. I hate finishing a book and feeling pissed off but that’s how I feel rn. I wouldn’t recommend it. Ima still read the next one tho

I made it about 10% before the errors in the writing bugged me enough I couldn't stand it any more. The prose came off like the author was trying too hard. Reminds me of stuff I wrote in middle school TBH. Not for me, so I'm moving on to the next.

okay um…actually i have many thoughts about this book. so let us buckle in.
1. good GOD i found over half this book insufferable. literally up until like page 500 i was just twiddling my thumbs waiting for something to happen because it was just the same thing over and over again. she wakes up, shes forced to dress up, goes to dinner, listens to conversations, gets locked back in her room, bastian visits her in her dreams, repeat. literally the first 500 pages.
2. Tharen? don’t like him. vale? don’t care for him. az? a simp. graves? he’s weird. bastian? tolerable. luella? annoying.
3. I found the end the most enjoyable even though it was just information dump after information dump. like you have 600+ pages to drop little tidbits of information every now and then but waited really until the last 70 pages to drop a shit ton of information which, quite frankly, would’ve been more entertaining to read throughout the entire novel and not just the end.
4. at least luella grew a backbone in the last like 5 pages. like half the time i was reading i wanted to be like “girl!! get up!!” but like…also i get it tho she coulda been killed at any moment (or at least so she thought).
5. i ain’t gonna lie i wanna know what happens with the prophecy and shit😭😭 don’t judge me if i read the second book when it comes out my curiosity is gonna get the best of me.
6. there were many typos in this kindle edition tho…like many typos. i also don’t know if the author realized she switched from third person to first person multiple times in the beginning of the book. like color me surprised when i saw the first “i felt…” when the earlier parts of the book were “she did…she felt…she was…”
7. i liked the povs from the guys tho tbh. i wanna pick their brains they’re all very strange. graves is SUPER weird but hear me out when i say he’s my favorite💀💀

amazing book— but i have beef with the editor

TLDR: The only reason this book isn’t 5 stars is because whoever edited this may need to go back to middle school. Inside you’ll find evocative writing, characters that flow off the page, and SO much angst!

Within the first page, I was both hooked and repulsed. The writing is amazing at times; I felt immersed in the world. And then I would be hit with a sentence fragment, a typo, and a grammatical error. There were so many parts that had my heart ACHING from how good the writing was, and I was then immediately pulled out by a sentence that literally didn’t make sense. I’m all for a good fragment, but it felt like there were things a good editor should have caught and helped the author with.

But when I say I’m obsessed, I mean it. I’ll take up art just to make some fan art. I’ll make some playlists.

Luella is a flawed main character who is emotionally abused by her parents, and she actually acts like it. The MMCs are all equally challenged and have so much work to do to get her on their side. It was also SO nice to read a heroine who was actually reacting to the gore around her like a normal person.

It’s also super easy to fall into the world, and everything about the plot is complex enough to enthrall you, but simple enough I didn’t need notes. It would have been nice, at times, to have Luella give an explanation for things she read, or knew, like the prophecy and the ‘threads’. But overall, it didn’t bother me as much as the editing.

Seriously, though. Amazing book. I wish I could emphasize that more. But I want to smack the editor upside the head with my opinions and then politely help the author.

This book was amazing!! I’ve been so excited to read this and was impressed! The slow burn and tension was soo good and her writing is so beautiful. Only reason it’s 4 is because it felt a bit drawn out for me, having 768 pages with small progression plot wise. Regardless I’m going to be eagerly awaiting book 2 because I still ate it up and can’t wait to see where Luella goes! Def good if you love an extra slow burn with some mystery.

Wow!

I have been waiting and waiting for this book to finally come out and I realized why it took so long. You’ve got 750+ pages of plot. This made me super excited, the longer the better. This allowed the pacing of the story to feel realistic. FMC’s character growth and the romance happen at a good pace, not too fast or too slow.
As other comments mention, yes, there are some grammatical errors. Are there really that many? No. Nor are they the type that makes a sentence confusing. Give it a chance anyways. This is coming from someone who usually DNF’s after too many grammatical errors.
I loved the vocabulary in this book as well. I feel like a lot of fantasy romance books are written at a 6th grade level, so this was extremely refreshing. (Also so glad kindle has a dictionary function!) I think, perhaps, this more than made up for any grammatical errors there were in my opinion.
The FMC starts off a bit Mary Sue, but it’s by design. She’s a sheltered princess who has been told NOTHING of importance her entire life. This book is her (very) steep learning curve. As things happen to her in this book, you see her learn from her mistakes. You see her take some cruel lessons to heart. You see how things she has no choice but to do fundamentally change her as a person. (I got teary-eyed for her at certain parts. My poor, sweet Lu 🥺)
As for the MC’s. I like most of them alright. Graves and Bastien are my favs. Me and Theran have beef, okay? Watch your back, Prima. We’re gonna try and work it out in book two. There’s a little character growth there. I can safely tell you that all the main characters are not the same people they were at the beginning of the book. Except maybe Theran. (I told you, we have beef.)
As far as enemies to lovers go: yes but no. They come from rival kingdoms and the guys kidnap her and yadadada, but it’s pretty clear right off the bat the guys are interested even if they aren’t willing to admit it. And the book is mostly from Luella’s perspective so you get all the virginal “oh my goodness what is this feeling/I want to, but I shouldn’t” type stuff.
For anyone who wants to know, there’s no spice in this one. Some kisses.
It’s clearly set up to be included later in the series, though.
Micah, you did such a stellar job and I literally can’t wait for book two! ♥️

I will begin this review by saying the book is heavily descriptive, but lacked character development. The main character is a locked away princess with no power so of course she is going to be meek and mild, HOWEVER, she is described by the main male characters as having fire. I wish she would have shown a little bit more of that instead of trembling barefoot the whole entire book. Given that this is a long read (over 700 pages) I would have liked to have some character growth or at least more of the other character’s perspectives to understand the plot this book is attempting to build. It felt repetitive given that Luella kept getting hurt or almost sexually assaulted for the majority of the book and never being able to save herself. She cowered until one of the main male characters swooped in to save her, and then turned around and treated her horribly. I kept waiting to read that she grew a back bone instead of crying in the corner. Hopefully in the second book we will see some sort of this power she supposedly has locked up inside of her? Maybe we will figure out why they are all tied together, or who the main enemy is, what the prophecy means or something?

Some things that I did enjoy: the writing was well done and the vocabulary was very descriptive. It wasn’t a basic story just maybe less of the descriptions of the rooms the characters are in and more character development would be nice. I appreciate a good plot building book, however, the plot needs to actually go somewhere rather than vaguely outlined. I am anticipating the next book in order to see if anything is resolved.

I was very disappointed, this reads like a bad wattpad fanfiction. The female character lacks any depth. The male interests blur together and become confusing and uninteresting fast. The relationships are sped through without any kind of grounding plot or reasoning for their connections. She just trust him, he just loves her, he hates her kind of thing without any reasoning behind it. This just feels like there were far too many aspect the writer wanted to add and didn’t give any of them a bough attention to make it work.
The writing itself is extremely repetitive, things that could have been one sentence are often 1-2 paragraphs. The dialogue is boring and inconsequential. The descriptions of people and places get repeated over and over again. The more I kept reading the more frustrated and annoyed I got.
I was excited to read from a small author I found on tik tok and got increasingly more disappointed the more I read it.

I read roughly 200 books per year. High fantasy, fantasy, romantacy etc.
I have never once felt the need to write a review - this is my first - but this book was so very hard to get through, so here I am.
This book was disappointing and felt like it would never end.
Fmc is meek to the point of cringe, mmc are cruel to the point of no return.
Also, I seen a comment from the literal author saying this book was 2/5 spice rating and the next one is 3/5 spice rating. There is no spice at all, I’m talking two kisses and some hand holding.

⭐½ - A Long, Frustrating Disappointment

I picked this up because the page count intrigued me—nearly 700 pages for a debut in a series? Bold move. Unfortunately, it was 692 pages of fluff, filler, and repeated descriptions. Why must every chapter remind us what the male characters look like? They didn’t grow new hair overnight. And yes, we get it—there’s glitter dust all over the damn throne room. It’s everywhere. No need to remind us every few chapters. At this point, it’s basically the craft-world equivalent of herpes: impossible to get rid of and mentioned far too often.

As for the "spice"—there is none. Just non-consensual kissy moments masquerading as romantic tension. The FMC? Easily one of the most frustrating protagonists I’ve ever read. And the MMCs? All equally unbearable. There’s no emotional payoff, no respect, and frankly, no reason to root for any of them. The vampire “lover” openly hooking up with others at parties while his bonded mate just silently tolerates it? Then they all cuddle in some weird room scene? What was the point?

And for crying out loud—four out of five of her so-called bonded were directly responsible for the fall of her 'homeland'. They ensured it was overthrown, and made sure every Solis Fae was either assaulted, killed, or left in ruin. She witnessed the aftermath with her own eyes. (And let’s talk about that “dark romance” label—if by “dark” you mean a few grim scenes at the start and then nothing but emotional whiplash, sure. Otherwise? Absolutely not.) Why anyone would want to root for these MMCs after that is beyond me. There’s no redemption arc strong enough to justify it. Just chaotic, unearned storytelling at its worst.

The book loops endlessly without meaningful progression. Most scenes felt like filler, and the final chapter is the only one that remotely moves the plot forward. I don’t think I can bring myself to read the next book—this one already drained the joy out of me. The whole “mates treat her like garbage but she ends up with them anyway” trope needs to die. It’s not romantic. It’s not swoon-worthy. And it’s definitely not, as the kids say, “demure.” 🤦‍♀️

Absolutely disheartened.

What if.... she's not a bad ass fighter but a invisible Princess - sweet natured, hopeful in her own kingdom ( her first cage).

good guys finish last... right. It's undesirable to not show your backbone...your mistakenly seen as weak.

& in world where everyone else around her is toxic dipped chaos. Luella doesnt fit or does she?

Luella is vulnerable, waryAF and powerless after many years of neglect and unrelenting expectations. Her meekness is a survival instinct a tactful direction to pull the attention away and diffuse aggression.

Taken captive subjected to intolerable treatment she experiences a shift in her locked down safer reactions and commences to face her fears by seeking answers.

The hurt/comfort scenes in ways was reversed yes physically they would comfort the dangers befallen Luella. But Luella also provided care in her own gentle way. Who really is touch staved in this book?

The 4 of fellas are varying degrees of morally grey and pitch black..unreedeemable..they have forgotten how to care for someone good....someone deserving. Now the Demon he was a lil cinnamon roll surprise.

There is no doubt there is alot of grovelling to come.

Luella hopefulness is such a challenge to these unruly men. Theran was my fav -unhinged & chaotic. Bastian and graves equal second with their burning desire for Lu. Protectors Vale and Az let's see how they share.

All is certainly not what it seems. The deceit lies thick, burning, cruel and twisted in this read.

I'll be back for book 2, hoping for an early release.

I think this book has a lot of potential but the MMCs are just cruel.

The FMC is weak but I’m not that bothered because I can kind of understand her, considering what she’s been through. But due to her lack of experience, her standards are seriously low and I just have the feeling that she’s being gaslighted and taken advantage of all the time.

The MMCs‘ behavior toward her is just not understandable.
It is clear from the beginning that they are attracted to her and they still treat her horribly. The enemies to lovers wasn’t really being enemies, but actually being attracted to her (maybe even love? mates?) but still treat her like dirt. They are taking advantage of her e.g. there is a scene where she shows visible discomfort with touch (cries) but the MMC just doesn’t care. (non-con kiss)

But because of the fact that she’s been caged and hadn‘t have anything, she feels gratitude even though they are partially fault, why she is in a miserable situation and it’s something so normal like getting food or something.
I genuinely pity her because she doesn’t realize how bad they are treating her (and she still gets turned on)

If you’re looking for a dark fantasy RH romance, this book is a great choice. The story is highly imaginative and original. The plot is so good and detailed to perfection. Though there are still some questions left unanswered, it just makes me crave the next book even more. I felt like I was living through Luella. The characters are all so great (except you, Saga). I’ve always loved fantasy growing up, so finding a story that is well-written, and a little bit mysterious like this one has my inner child glowing. The slow burn has me on the edge of my seat. This book definitely captured the vibe of enemies-to-lovers. I cannot wait to see the amount of groveling that is sure to happen! If you love deranged mages, hotheaded kings, quiet sentinels, gentle giants, and flirty vampires, this book is for you! Thank you, Micah, for making me feel like I was living in a fairy tale. Literally could not put it down!

Premise is interesting but the characterization, especially the FL, is off. I was 266 pages into this book and I still have no idea who Luella is as a character other than meek. Some of it is because she was abused by her parents her whole life but it is possible for her to have traits beyond just being meek.

Also I got 1/3 of the way into this book and not much has happened. We don’t know anything at all about the larger plot or even about all the MLs.

I think this book may be worth the read if the overly descriptive language is heavily edited and cut out, the characters are developed more early on, and we have a faster pace to the plot. Notice I didn’t say fast-paced, just faster because this book is crawling along.

If the author hires an editor and cuts this down from 750+ pages to 300-350 pages, this would likely make for a better read.

I absolutely loved this book! At 25% I was hooked, 50% I couldn’t sleep! The FMC may appear to be simple and naive, but at the end of the first book we are left with a different young woman. Luella is having identity troubles by the end and is a little more guarded of these males she can’t seem to escape. Before she was powerless and held captive, now she is most powerful; but is she still to be overpowered by the 5 mates chosen for her? They seem to think so, I’m so excited for this push back between the males who have been around for centuries and this newly powerful fae who seems keen on revenge. Yay for book two in June!
