Ground Rules

Rate this book
Can a bad boy angel and a dispirited mortal find a Christmas miracle together?
Luke, newly promoted to Watcher Angel, has been watching one human too closely—Alice. Unfortunately, she’s his latest assignment. Good thing the ground rules forbid getting involved with an assignment.
Alice Garner scores a great contract to illustrate a children’s book by a famous author, but lack of inspiration forces her to cancel her holiday plans. Alone on Christmas to meet her looming deadline, Alice wishes on her treetop angel for help. She wasn’t expecting an angel to answer, especially one as surly as Luke.
As they try to restore Christmas cheer to another, Luke brings Alice more than inspiration. He reawakens her heart. Now Alice has to convince him he’s her greatest wish. With a little Christmas magic, can she convince him to break the ground rules and stay?

A perfect love story with a little hint of Christmas...

Alice is having the worst time of her life. She's a children's book illustrator with a deadline, who is finding little inspiration in her current state of mind. Plus, it's Christmas, and she's feeling a little melancholy, as she won't be able to spend the holidays with her family. Throwing caution to the wind, she wishes upon the star atop her Christmas tree for a little divine intervention.

Luke is an angel with an attitude and a Harley. Newly promoted to being a Watcher, he's in no mood to take on a new charge, especially on Christmas. This time of year only reminds him of what he'd lost. He had his heart broken on Christmas Eve when the love of his life decided that her life was better off without him.

Once Luke lays his eyes on Alice, however, he realizes she's something special. However, once bitten, twice shy, Luke is determined to keep things strictly business. Plus, Luke has been warned by the powers that be to make sure he adheres to the ground rules. No dalliances with your human charge.

Alice isn't sure what to make of Luke at first, but soon she's feeling a little warm and fuzzy towards the distant angel. Her time with Luke not only inspires her to meet her deadline, but fills her heart with a feeling she has long since lost. As time ticks away, will Luke ride his Harley into the Heavens, or chuck the ground rules out the window and stay earthbound with Alice?

This was such a short, sweet, light-hearted story about finding love, even if you're not looking. Alice and Luke were both strong-willed and not easily intimidated. They had both been heartbroken and not looking to be hurt again. Ms. Masters took a simple love story and made it magical, drawing the reader into the world where angels can make your dreams come true. And the fact that Luke could make a mean margarita certainly didn't hurt, either. I'm a sucker for a Christmas story – throw in a hot angel on a Harley and we've got a party!

Ms. Masters has written a wonderfully magical story that is refreshing to read. This creative story gives us a new take on the Christmas guardian angel. Complete with romance and snow.

Luke is a watcher angel that is sent down to help Alice Garner get her mojo back so that she can finish the sketches for a story about a magical Christmas angel. We find in this somewhat comical at times at classic tale of fate taking and throwing together two unlikely people who happen to fall in love. Because we know that you can’t have a life with your watcher/angel now can you?

I loved that Luke isn’t like most angels’; he drives a Harley, talks to Archimedes’ (Alice’s cat) and makes a mean margarita. Who wouldn’t fall for this handsome angel?

If you like fluff you have plenty of it in this likeable fairy tale. But, as with all good fairy tales, they must end. Ms. Masters takes us to the end or is it the end? So maybe there is a twist and a little bit more in this fun, light romantic story of April and her angel Luke. You’ll have to pick up this story and see what happens. My lips are sealed.

Alice is so tired of being alone. It doesn’t help when she has to give up going to her sister’s for Christmas because she has this book to illustrate. She can’t get inspired or in the spirit at all. So she stands next to her Christmas tree and wishes on the angel at the top, hoping inspiration will come. I think we’ve all felt a bit uninspired by our projects once in a while, but I’ve sure never wished on a Christmas tree ornament and gotten an angel!

Ms. Masters writes a light tale that is a joy to read. Her angel rides a Harley, Luke and Alice spend more time fighting than getting along, and Alice isn’t sure she wants to finish the illustrations. If she does, Luke will leave…

The author gives you an impossible situation and then adds a human male who is suddenly interested in Alice. She’s not interested in him, but she can’t have Luke. Or can she?

Riding the Harley through the sky, listening to dead musicians make music in the heavens, and painting here and there on a night that never ends is great fun for Alice. But Luke has ground rules to follow, a limited time to help her and it’s too bad if he doesn’t want to go home… After all, he never wanted to return to earth either. He was happy hanging out in heaven being bored. He’s not bored now.

My favorite part was the two of them snarling at each other. He wants to inspire her to paint; she wants to convince him to love her. He keeps making margaritas and cooking her food to keep her focused on her duties. He plays taxi man. And she drools over him.

This fun fantasy tale will keep you reading and waiting to see just what happens next. The author of the book she’s illustrating plays a part in this story, too. I didn’t see this ending coming, and I consider that an accomplishment for the author.

Why not try this read for yourself. It’d be a great book to read while sitting in front of the fire and sipping a hot chocolate. Just don’t drink and read at the same time ... you might make a mess when you laugh out loud at the great humor the author shares.
