This was a fun book. It really reminded me of the show 'Supernatural', with its monster-hunter hero, lore and fictionalisation of his adventures.

The background was lovely and genuinely affecting, as our hero loses his teenage love only to be reunited with her under the worst of circumstances. The constant mystery of exactly what is going on kept me turning the pages.

The only thing that kept pulling me out of the story was that it needed a bit of an editorial hand. Some dialogue really didn't sound right for the character (and sometime a bit unrealistic), occasionally there's be continuity errors or it was as if the author had forgotten to describe something which then appeared as if it'd been there all along. This was particularly frustrating during a key plot twist.

A good book, that with some polish could be great. I'll be looking for the author's work in future, certainly.

I was kindly sent an early copy of this book but the above opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this book, perfect read for spooky season! It starts off slow but it picks up very very quickly! There are so many mysteries and puzzles one as the reader will try to solve before the secrets are revealed! Super creepy and makes you wonder what is making that noice at 3 am when you are reading it (I can say that from personal experience lol)! Overall a good read!!

"The Curse of Helhaven: Helhaven Asylum: Book 1" offers a thrilling journey into a realm of terror. Heather D. Glidewell crafts a chilling universe inhabited by ghosts, shapeshifters, demons, and other nocturnal entities. The narrative features well-crafted characters, including the notable Hunter, and centers around an enduring curse that culminates in a climactic confrontation. The book is both enthralling and compelling, making it a delightful read.

The Curse of Helhaven
By Heather D. Glidewell

I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The Curse of Helhaven is an enthralling blend of paranormal thrills, romance, and eerie mystery that makes for an addictive read. Heather D. Glidewell spins an intricate tale through the eyes of Lucas Graves, a psychic and “ghost whisperer” who knows all too well what goes bump in the night. But Lucas isn’t just a ghost hunter; his mission is to connect lost spirits with their loved ones, making him a truly compelling protagonist who brings depth and empathy to the spooky business of the afterlife.

The book shines in its ability to weave multiple genres together. We have paranormal elements that range from shifters to spectral presences, a budding romance that feels genuine, and a mystery that keeps you on edge. Lucas’s interactions with spirits and the unravelling mysteries surrounding them are expertly crafted to send a chill down your spine.

The atmospheric writing transports you right to the haunted setting of Helhaven, and the chills are palpable without overshadowing the warmth of the romance and character connections. The read is chilling and fast-paced but Glidewell manages to pull it all together for a satisfying conclusion that lingers after the final page.
Overall, The Curse of Helhaven is a delightful, eerie read perfect for fans of the paranormal with a strong dose of mystery. It's a haunting, heartwarming tale that makes you root for the living and the dead alike!

This book will chill you to the bone! It has been a while since I have read a good horror book that had me looking over my shoulder at night, but this book did just that! This book has it all: young love/romance, paranormal, shifters, murder and mystery. The detailed description the author used throughout the book makes you feel as though you are really there and at times sent chills down my spine. There were so many twists and turns that leaves you on the edge of your seat making it hard to put down. Even when I thought I had things figured out I would turn the page and be hit with something I never saw coming! If you are looking for a good book that will make you want to leave your lights on, this is it! I cant wait for the next book in this series!!

Supernatural meets Silent Hill is the perfect way to describe this book! Lucas is a broody Hunter with that bad boy edge that every woman loves. There’s mystery, the paranormal, and twists and turns all throughout this book. There’s budding romance and nostalgia over past loves. There’s complicated family dynamics and found family. I seriously couldn’t put this book down! If I had one note it would be that the ending felt a smidge rushed. But I can’t wait to see what Lucas and his group get up to next! Urban horror fantasy. There is more chill here than gruesome horror, the gruesome bits happen more off page. Definitely enough chill though to satisfy. So if you like horror without the gore, this is for you. The story is told in present day where most of the action takes place and in flashbacks, where we learn about Lucas’ past interactions with some of the characters. You can read this as a standalone. But there is a lot still to be developed with these interesting characters so I hope there are more Curse of Helhaven books to come. Thank you to Heather D. Glidewell and BookSirens for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

Even though this is a great story, I almost left it unfinished it was so creepy. Lucas was 16 when he met Helena Helhaven and the pair fell in love. When his dad learned Lucas was spending time with Helena, he was pulled away, not knowing of her pregnancy. Years later, Lucas is back at the Helhaven estate, finally learning of his daughter, Meredith. Lucas and Meredith are heartbroken when Helena ends her life so the curse can end. This story has action and romance, ending on a sad note. Very highly recommended if you can stomach the creepiness.

I got this book as an advanced reader copy (ARC) to check that box on a reading challenge I've undertaken this year.

This was a great story filled with hard to guess mysteries that I still have many questions to. I can only hope there will be a #2 to answer some of those lingering questions, and I'll definitely read the follow-on! The book is listed as a supernatural horror, but I didn't really find it scary at all.

Overall I was entertained by this story reading it in two evenings. I felt like I understood and identified with the main characters and would definitely recommend!

I really liked this story that read like a mix of suspense, mystery, a touch of paranormal and a dash of horror to give a good read. I had a hard time putting it down as I had to see what was going on and what the curse really was. I lived the twist and the drama and surprises at the end. I liked the characters and thought the author did a great job at reeling me in and keeping me reading to the end. I liked the world built here and what could happen next. The ending was not what I expected and enjoyed that. Just a well written and good story.

I went in blind with this story. When I first started this book, I thought it was going to be something completely different. It started off a bit confusing and slow at first, and I found it to be a bit long winded until after the 50% mark or so. It's a very interesting plot line with very well-rounded, vibrant characters. I especially loved Helena's character. The book is spooky, with an eerie feeling of being watched throughout, but it's not gory. Definitely loved the book and want to hear more about this world the author created.

This was a really interesting read. I loving having a good spooky read for the fall season, and this was one that fit the bill. So, as I started pulling my spooky reads, I had to add this to the top.

The beginning of the book is rather slow, and rather irked in some areas, but once you get into the meat of the book, things get better. It was a good chilling read, with a few things that you are not going to see coming.

Good for the ghosty season, and delivers a few good shivers.

If you like the vibes of a hunter chasing down monsters and making the world a better place- this book has it all and more! While I did find it hard to connect with the characters often throughout, the care they all show for one another and the twists and secrets that come to light will hook you in. When you think you've learned it all- there's more! I did enjoy this book and looking forward to reading more from the author.

This one started out mild and took off like a rocket to the supernatural world, and it didn't stop until it claimed its' victims. If you're looking for fast paced paranormal activities this is your read. This one had me turning on a few more lights and hearing a few things go bump in the night. Super creepy and very suspenseful. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.

I loved this book. I loved how the whole asylum scene was written and how it had different parts before revealing anything to you. It definitely kept me reading each page to find out what happened. The characters are well written and complex that they felt real. The storyline flowed well through the book and each scene felt like it had a purpose. I would love to see what happens next in the MMC’s life and with his hunting.

A great book to start October off with! It had the perfect amount of scare factor to it, and the writing style flowed well. It was a little slow going in the start, but once it picked up, I found it hard to put the book down. At times, it was a little unclear who was speaking, however, I was able to follow along pretty well.

The story started slow but as the plot thickens the pace gradually increase. It is an easy & relax reading at first. I can’t decide if it’s a sad ir a happy ending.

It’s a story about the paranormal hunter Lucas. Happily with his life with his paranormal book writer. Then throw in ex-girlfriend + his daughter + she demon with grudge & curse.

The Curse of Helhaven is a chilling, fast paced read that gives off Supernatural vibes and at times even reminds me of Silent Hill. There is a lot of details and at times it can be kind of confusing and feel a little rushed, but it gets better once the story progresses a bit. The story line is intriguing and the supernatural aspects are awesome. It's suspenseful, mysterious and down right creepy! Great read!

Initially dnfd it, but I was really starting to get curious how the story continues so I decided to give it another go!
The story is a little rough around the edges at times, with it not being always clear who is saying a certain line, but the plot altogether is very interesting so that makes it worth it!
It’s not too scary, but definitely had its spooky moments

This was a near perfect read for this spooky season. It's so very sad and deeply intense. The MMC is torn between the present and the future.

It's my first time reading this author. I look forward to reading more of her creative works.

It was a fun book to read. Nice that it was described from different characters and from different time phases. The book was more exciting than scary.
