I've been waiting forever for this to come out, YES!!🕵️♀️
Book two is fun and doesn't disappoint. Darby Piper runs Piper and Porter Detective Agency in Herrington, New York. Her partner Tate is new to the business but has a military background.
Business is slow so when Tate's old classmate Cece needs their expertise to find the person sending menacing letters to her famous dermatologist husband, they jumped at the opportunity.
The detective duo goes incognito to a New Year's party/weekend at a fancy ski resort owned by Cece. There will be many high profile guests and perhaps the owner of the letters will also be attending. Before you know it, Dr. Madd, Cece's husband is found dead by an arrow.💘
"Frozen Detective" sure kept me guessing until the perp is revealed. Many characters have a convincing motive to kill the Doctor. I'm happy to say that I got it wrong.😆 I enjoy these characters and the pet cat (Gumshoe) and St. Bernard dog (Tiny) are lovely too. Looking forward to #3!
🎧Laura Faye Smith did a great job with the narration.
Thank you Dreamscape Media, Hallmark Publishing, and Netgalley for my ALC. Expected publication date: Dec 6, 2022!
Frozen Detective (Piper and Porter Mystery, 2) by Amanda Flower was a very enjoyable cozy mystery. This was the second book in this cozy mystery series and although I had not read the first book in the series I had no trouble following the characters or the plot. At some point, I do hope to go back and read the first book, though. I listened to the audiobook of Frozen Detective that was well narrated by Laura Faye Smith. Amanda Flower’s character development in Frozen Detective was well thought out and appealing for the most part. It was a fast paced audiobook that captured my attention immediately. I loved all the twists and turns Amanda Flower threw into the mix of this well plotted mystery.
Tate Porter had recently become Darby Piper’s partner in the private investigator’s business she ran. When Tate’s aunt left him her half of the business, Darby was rather surprised that Tate didn’t immediately sell his half. Rather than sell, Tate had chosen to work with Darby and become her partner. Most of their work involved mundane background checks and pretty boring assignments. That was until Cecily Madd walked into their office. Cecily had known Tate from high school. They had both grown up in the Finger Lake District of New York. Darby had as well and knew Cecily from school but had not been friends with her growing up. In the years that followed, Cecily had moved to New York City and had become a model. In fact, Cecily had become the face for her husband’s lucrative dermatology business. Cecily had come to Darby’s and Tate’s office to hire them to investigate something. She claimed that someone was sending her husband threatening letters and she wanted Darby and Tate to figure out who was doing it. Cecily and her very famous and rich husband, Dr. Madd, owner of an exclusive dermatologist practice, had invited everyone and anybody to a New Years celebration at the exclusive ski resort Cecily’s family owned and operated in the Finger Lakes area. She wanted Darby and Tate to pose as a couple and attend the weekend long gala so they could figure out who was sending the threatening notes to her husband before something terrible happened to her husband. Reluctantly, Darby took the case. Darby was not one to turn down good money even if some of the requirements put her out of her comfort zone.
Darby and Tate arrived at the plush ski resort the day of New Years Eve. Upon arrival they saw Cecily and again asked to see the rest of the threatening notes her husband had received. Cecily had only brought one typed written note with her the day she came to their office. Darby and Tate were anxious to see the rest of them. Perhaps they would provide some clues about the person who sent them. Cecily was way too busy to comply with their request at that time. She promised to show the notes to them the next morning. That evening at the New Year’s Eve celebration, Darby and Tate had their suspicions about several guests but there was nothing concrete.
The next morning, Darby was up rather early and went for a walk. She was surprised to find the hotel manager’s Saint Bernard dog out alone. The dog barked at Darby and indicated that it wanted Darby to follow it. When the dog finally stopped, Darby discovered Dr. Madd’s body laying in the snow with an arrow in his back. Darby’s and Tate’s case had just turned into a murder investigation. There were so many guests who could have had reason to kill Dr. Madd, including his own wife. The local police were called in to aid in the investigation. Who could have murdered Dr. Madd? Would they be able to figure it out before the guests left the ski resort?
I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook of Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower. The characters were colorful and quirky. Every time I thought I had the mystery all figured out there was another twist. Frozen Detective was suspenseful and kept me guessing. I hope that there will be more books in this series because I have not had my fill of Darby and Tate. I can’t wait to see what Amanda Flower has planned for them next. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media LLC for allowing me to listen to the audiobook of Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book of the Piper and Porter Mystery series. In this book an old high school girlfriend of Tates hires Piper and Porter, Private Investigators, to find out who was sending her husband, Dr Garrad Madd threatening notes. Dr Madd is a Dermatologist who also has a successful line of cosmetics in New York City. The Madds also own a ski resort near Senaca Lake where they plan to invite guests and clients to attend a New Years Eve party and holiday weekend . Mrs. Madd invites Piper and Porter to attend the party hoping they can find the person who is sending Dr Madd the threatening notes. When Dr Madd if found dead with an arrow in his back on the ski slopes early the next morning Piper and Porter find there are plenty of suspects who had motives enough to want Dr Madd dead. Amount those suspects was Mrs Madd and her step brother. Someone had planned the murder ahead of time and the murderer was a skilled archer. Piper and Porter must find the killer before the weekend comes to an end. The Police have closed the ski slope and ordered all guest to remain at the Ski Resort for questioning. A murderer lurks among the guests and Resort employees . Piper and Porter hope to find out who it is before they leave the Ski Resort.
This mystery kept me guessing to the last chapter of the book. I found it to be a page turner that held my interest . I liked the characters that leapt off the pages and made the story come to life. It was entertaining and unpredictable. It had everything I enjoy and like to find in a good cozy mystery.
I recommend this book to readers of cozy mystery and fans of the author. It can be read as a stand alone but I recommend that you read book one The Dead End Detective first before reading this book because it is a introduction to the Piper and Porter series.
I borrowed an audio copy of this book from the Hoopla Library. A review was not requested.
Frozen Detective was a fun read, This is the second book in the series. It takes place in the town of Herrington, New York. Darby Piper and Tate Porter are partners in Piper and Porter Detective Agency. Cecily (CeCe) Madd comes in and wants to hire them to find the person who is sending threatening notes to her husband. She is an old classmate of Tate. They decide to take the case. CeCe is planning to have a New Year's party at the Garden Peak Lodge which she inherited from her father. Her husband, Garret Madd is a dermatologist in New York who owns MaddlyCare skin products. They have invited their staff as well as people who are interested in showing them their products for which they hope the company will be interested in. Darbyi and Tate are invited be part of the guests for the weekend, Upon arriving they meet Herschel the general manager along with his dog, Tiny a St. Bernard,
At the party they run into Benny B. a celebrity photographer working as part of the staff.. Darby meets Jeremy Stone who owns a vineyard who is interested in buying the lodge. At their table they meet Frederick Hume who hopes that he can have Garret interested in his eye cream. Their friends Edwin Yule and his fiancé Pierre who own a health store are also there. Garret's ex-wife Heather is there. She works for the company which was part of her divorce. Mindy Carn is Garret's assistant. Ridge Tragger is the half brother of CeCe. He is a ski instructor who lives in a cabin on the property.
Garret makes an announcement that he has decided to make Kiera Bellworthy, an actress in Hollywood the new face for MaddlyCare to his wife's dismay as she is the face of the company, When at the gym at the resort Darby sees out of the window a body lying on the slope. Upon checking she finds it is Garret dead with an arrow sticking out his back. She calls the police. Detective Austin Caster, Darby's ex-boyfriend arrives along with Officer Jack Parsons.
Lots of things are happening in the story that I will leave to the reader to enjoy. While many of the guests are allowed to leave before the expected snow storm several of the guests stay; The reader is taken on an adventure to the climax of who killed CeCe's husband and why. The ending is back at the office with Tiny now their dog. Tate tells Darby that he has a new case which they would go as a brother/sister chefs.
I enjoyed this series. Is going as a brother/sister chefs their next adventure.
Thank you NetGalley and Halllmark Publishing for this ARC..
In this second of the Piper and Porter Mysteries, Darby and Tate, owners of the Piper and Porter Detective Agency, get a new case with a high school friend of Tate's. Cecily, wife of a renowned dermatologist and skincare company, hires them to find someone who is threatening her husband. The two are to pose as a couple for a posh New Year's weekend at her inn on a nearby mountain. They have plenty of suspects to investigate and when the husband is killed, things really get into high gear. I enjoy the banter between Darby and Tate as they work the case and interact. The setting is lovely with lots of snow and the inn sounds gorgeous. This is a fun mystery to unravel, and I did have some ideas, but it definitely had some twists and turns to get there. It even has a wee bit of a holiday feel to it with the inn decorated with Christmas decorations. Great read for those who enjoy cozy mysteries and nice to return to the series. I received a complimentary copy for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts are mine.
Darby Piper and Tate Porter have a new case. Tate’s old high school girlfriend, Cecily Madd is in town with her husband. They have rented out the most expensive lodge in the area for a big New Year’s Eve party. Cecily tells them that her husband, Dr. Garret Madd has been getting threatening notes and she wants them to uncover who is behind the threats. Dr. Madd does not want to involve the police. Cecily wants Darby and Tate to pose as a couple (awkward). The night after the lavish party, Darby is in the lodge’s gym when she notices someone lying in the snow. She finds Dr. Madd dead with an arrow in his back. Darby and Tate will need to work quickly if they want to identify the killer behind this chilling crime before all their suspects fly the coop. Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is the second A Piper & Porter Mystery. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. I found the story easy to read thanks to Amanda Flower’s friendly writing style. I like that we get to know more about Tate Porter. The whodunit had plenty of suspects since the victim was not well liked. There is a red herring or two to distract readers. There are clues to help readers solve the crime. I enjoyed the action which kept things lively. This was a fun mystery to solve. I thought the method of murder was unique. There is a wrap up of the crime at the end, but I was left with one lingering question. I believe this case will leave the agency in the red thanks to Darby’s purchases at the ski shop (she was not prepared for cold weather). I just loved Tiny, the Saint Bernard that belonged to the manager of the lodge. He is a sweet and clever dog. I liked the humor at the end. I wish there had been more of it in the story. Get cozy in your favorite chair with a comfy blanket to enjoy Frozen Detective. Frozen Detective is a wintry whodunit with ominous notes, an astonishing announcement, a purple parka, a dead doc, a sweet St. Bernard, a defensive detective, and a bracing blizzard.
Frozen Detective, by Amanda Flower, is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series by Hallmark Publishing. This sweet series is simplistic, but fun and endearing in it’s own way. It’s set around New Year’s Eve, which I find quite rare, and therefore a perfect read for this time of year.
Darby Piper owns the Piper and Porter Detective Agency in small town, rural New York. Tate Herrington is her new partner, who is light on investigative experience, but with his military background, he brings a lot to the business. It did frustrate me at times, when Tate made some seemingly obvious mistakes and went out on his own, but all-in-all, they make a good duo.
When they agree to a rather odd request by a former classmate of Tate’s to attend a New Year’s Eve function at a luxury resort, to determine who is sending her husband threatening notes, they find themselves spending a wintery weekend sleuthing. When the woman’s husband is found dead on the slopes, and then a blizzard blows in, everyone seems to turn on each other and Piper and Tate’s timeframe tightens.
This story has lots of possible culprits and many people at the lodge have secrets they’d rather keep hidden. Some of the characters are definitely not so likable, but the mystery is engaging. This is a light-hearted mystery and a quick, entertaining, wintery read.
Private investigator Darby Piper's life has quietened down since her last explosive case. She's back in the groove of rescuing cats and doing background checks, not exciting but necessary to keep her agency open. With partner Tate Porter still learning the ropes she's happy to have a little less danger in their lives. So when Cecily Madd, a childhood friend of Tate's, hires them to discover the identity of the poison pen targeting her husband they are happy to agree. After all who wouldn't want to spend the end of the year undercover at a luxury ski resort in the mountains just outside their home town of Herrington?
Garden Peak Lodge is hosting the New Year celebrations for the Maddlycare cosmetics company and Darby and Tate are soon rubbing shoulders with the rich, famous, and successful while trying to unmask their anonymous letter writer. Everything changes however when a body is found on the nearby slopes and they find themselves investigating a death as well. With no one free from suspicion and the weather closing in Tate and Darby are up against the clock if they are to find a killer before everyone starts to leave.
This is the second in the Piper and Porter Mystery Series and an excellent escape from reality which I loved. Who wouldn't want to spend time in 5 star surroundings and although the author doesn't go overboard with her descriptions it is a perfect backdrop for an original case which has far more to it than meets the eye. The two main protagonists' working and non-working relationship is a definite slow burner but gained ground this time round and I hope it will continue in book three.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this and happily recommend it.
I loved the first one so I was excited to see this latest one on our library’s digital service months before the release date (still not sure how or why). While I enjoyed the setting and the mystery in this one, the interactions between Tate and Darby felt off to me, not at all like the first one. The mystery was solid and it did keep me guessing until the very end. Hoping I will warm up to the main characters again in the next one.
ETA: I did receive a copy from #NetGalley and read it again. My thoughts about Tate and Darby’s relationship have not changed.
Since I've never met an Amanda Flower book that I didn't love, I am going to blame myself for not quite loving this one. Don't get me wrong. I didn't dislike it. I just didn't love it as expected. For whatever reason, I didn't find myself connecting to main character Darby Piper or her PI partner Tate Donovan, ie a slow start for me. I'm thinking that it's maybe because I haven't read the prior book in the series though that isn't normally an issue with Flower's series but I just didn't feel like I knew enough to care. I perked up, however, when I read that Darby's mother was a librarian and was intrigued enough that I will certainly read the follow up to this one. As usual, it is well written with an interesting setting and the potential is there for me to be hooked. After all, there's a dog and cat, always sure to lure me in.
The crime is chilling, pun intended. A wealthy doctor and skincare company owner is murdered. The weapon? A bow-and-arrow. Every guest at the party is a potential suspect, from the strangely acting younger wife to the papazzo working undercover, so to speak, as a seater at the party. Darby and Tate were invited because of threatening notes sent to the doctor that his wife found, but she found excuses not to share them, not to mention worked against all their best efforts to survey the scene prior to the murder. Could she have somehow murdered her husband? Why is the lodge owner so very upset at the death? How about the lovely, young spokesperson the doctor was thinking of hiring to represent the skincare line rather than his wife? Or maybe one of the workers? The ex-wife? How will Gumshoe the cat like his new housemate? How thrilled is Darby when she finds out who is in charge of the investigation? What exactly is Tate's background that gave him the skill to.....oh, no, never mind. Not telling. You'll have to read the book to find out the action-packed ending. While I didn't warm to this book as much as expected, it's well written and surely others will be smitten with it faster than I did.
Thanks #NetGalley and#HallmarkPublishing for inviting me to the lodge. I'm looking forward to spending more time with Darby and Tate and their critters so I can get more in sync with them. In the meantime, oh, those recipes. How yummy sounding.
Darby Piper and her new partner Tate Porter have been asked by a wealthy doctor to go under cover to figure out who is leaving him threatening messages. They will be staying a week at a gorgeous ski village so they can mingle among the doctors guest in hopes of figuring out just where the threats are coming from. When a murder occurs the two turn to the mystery behind the death. As they come upon clue after clue it becomes apparent that not everyone was happy with the deceased and quite a few held a grudge. Daddy's ex who is a cop thinks they are barking up the wrong tree and isn't willing to help. The two continue to dig but will something bad happen to them before they find the truth?
“Frozen Detective“ by Amanda Flower the 2nd instalment in “A Piper and Porter Mystery” series. What a great follow up to book one! I really enjoyed this story, and I can’t wait for the next instalment!
As they dig up buried grudges, Darby’s jealous ex-boyfriend on the police force thinks they’re wasting their time. Will Darby and Tate figure out who the killer is…or will it become another cold case?
I love Tiny the Saint Barnard, he was adorable
I enjoyed the tension between Darby, her ex Austin and Tate Porter. Part of me wonders if Tate liked Darby back in school and that’s the friction between him and Austin.
The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved the characters which are well developed. I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end.
I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Hallmark Publishing and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Oh, this series is really heating up and hitting its stride now! The first book was a wonderful introduction to the characters and the detective agency, but this second book really brings the characters and personalities fully to life. The mystery is outstanding and while you think you have a handle on whodunnit, don't get too comfortable with your deduction as a twist will turn you around again. I really love this series and absolutely can't wait for more to come! The narration on the audiobook is fantastic and makes the story seem all that more real! If I had one thing I could tell the author, I would say more, more, more! I want more of these characters, their town and their relationships as well as the detailed and wonderfully woven mysteries!!!
Two Girls Detective Agency is run by Darby Piper, a seasoned private eye, and her new business partner, Tate Porter. They are at a villa in a ski resort for New Year's Eve, asked by a dermatologist's wife, called Cece as threats have been made to her husband's life. Then someone dies... Amanda Flower has successsfully combined a twisting plot with interesting characters and settings. Very highly recommended and well worth a look if cozy mysteries are your jam.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Hallmark Publishing via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Detective Darby and Tate are undercover at a ski resort. They were hired due to threats, but couldn't stop the suspect in time before a murder happen.
This book had the perfect cozy and stranded type setting. So many potential suspects because the victim and his wife we high society and not exactly likeable. Cece was especially cruel.
I was kept guessing for most of the book (crazy ski slope death by crossbow) until it was revealed near the end. This book is definitely a perfect mystery to curl up to during the winter (maybe even a ski lodge).
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this Audiobook for my honest review.
Another cozy mystery from Amanda Flower, this is the second book in this series, but the first for me, and I was not lost. Our pair of detectives are invited to a Finger Lakes Resort, not far actually from where I live, but fictional! It sounds like a place of opulence, I wanted to have dinner! Wow! The detectives are invited by a former classmate of Porters, who tells them that her wealthy doctor husband has been getting threatening letters, and wants their help! All the while I'm reading this, I could picture it as a movie! There is a lot more to this than meets the eye, but we are there as it unfolds, and I thought I knew the answers! Was I right, well, partly, but loved the help they got from the canine! This quickly became a page turner, I needed answers, and you will too, keep reading, they do come! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Hallmark, and was not required to give a positive review.
This is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series and a perfect series to get in at the beginning if you haven't tried an Amanda Flower series yet. Darby Piper runs Piper and Porter Detective Agency in Herrington, New York. When her partner Samantha died, she left her share in the agency to her nephew Tate, so he is now Darby's partner. He doesn't know much about the PI business, but has a military background. In this story, they are hired by the wife of a dermatologist and old friend of Tate's, to investigate who has been sending her husband threatening letters. They are invited to a ski resort, where he is wining and dining some acquaintances and business associates, hoping the sender will be in attendance. When Dr. Madd is found dead, shot by a crossbow, the case takes a different turn. Unfortunately there has been a major storm and they are snowed in, so no police can get there to investigate at first, so it is left to Darby and Tate.
Frozen Detective was a great addition to this series with a mystery that kept me guessing right to the end. Cece, Dr. Madd's wife seemed like a perfect suspect to me, but as the story unfolded it seemed that several people had motives to kill Dr. Madd. With a storm causing them to be snowed in, the power going out and a lot of disgruntled people, I was dizzy trying to guess who might be the culprit. This mystery was a bit more complex than some of the other books I have read, but that made it all the more interesting. There was a great showdown with a snowmobile race leading us to the final reveal. I will say that I thought the culprit's motive was a bit weak, and that brought my 5 star review down a notch. I will continue to read the Piper and Porter mysteries as I am enjoying the mysteries and the relationship building between Darby and Tate. I did a read/listen with the audiobook narrated by Laura Faye Smith. She also narrated the first book in this series and I have been pleased with her performance. She had good expression, voices and tone. I recommend Frozen Detective in either format, whichever you prefer.
This mystery would be served well with cozy in the genre header. The story is simple. I found keeping the names of the characters straight a chore. I was the only Mary in the book. At one point, I reminded myself I wrote flow charts in college, and use them in history books or epic generational multi-book sagas, and in my reading journal. However, never for a cozy or simple mystery book.
The story itself was a little off for me. The ol' private eye partners go to the posh exclusive weekend, oh yes, not dinner, weekend as a couple is old, really really old. In my reading experience it has never worked. I feel like it must have been successful at one point otherwise it would be the trope that went away. Imagine the scene, no one is talking to us, I don't understand why. I'm screaming I know I know.
I do usually have a trope problem with the detective and the PI former lovers, now apart. Suddenly in the small small town only I'm not surprised they run into each other on a case. Flower did have a different response with the encounter than what I've read before.
This is okay. I would put this in a grandparents basket, gift to a nursing home, and even better Flower has written a book that can comfortably be read out loud. Kudos to her.
The narration didn't work for me. I do believe that is why I had problems tracking characters.
I find Amanda Flower's books easy and enjoyable to read. She has not had a series that I didn't like. This is the second in the Porter and Piper detective agency series. Tate Porter is new to the agency, as Darby Piper used to run it with his late aunt. They are kind of awkward and are still learning how to work together. Tate's ex girlfriend, Cecily Madd comes in to the office and says she wants to hire them to figure out who has been sending her husband threatening letters. Cecily's husband, Dr. Garrett Madd is well known in the skin care industry. Darby begrudgingly agrees, mostly because she is tired of doing background checks.
The case is made more interesting by the fact that they have to pretend to be dating and attend a New Years Eve launch party at Cecily's family resort up in the mountains. Cecily is refusing to show Tate and Darby the threatening letters and is being super stingy with information, which is rubbing Darby the wrong way. The morning after Dr. Madd makes a huge announcement, changing everything, Darby finds him dead on the slopes with an arrow in his back.
This was a cool book and had a locked room feeling, with the guests being stranded on a mountain. I give this review voluntarily after receiving an ARC from NetGalley.
Frozen Detective is book 2 in this newer series by Amanda Flowers. I have not read the 1st book but was able to follow what was happening with no problem.
Darby and Tate have been hired by wealthy socialite trying to protect her older husband who is receiving threats.
They go to a luxury ski resort incognito to uncover who is giving the doctor threats. Soon this turns into a murder investigation after Darby finds the doctor with an arrow in his back.
There is a cast of characters and a big reveal in spirit if an Agatha Christie book.
This is another good cozy by Amanda Flowers. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration.
This is my opinion on ARC audiobook received by NetGalley.
Darby Piper runs a private investigation firm called Piper and Porter Detective Agency with her business partner Tate Porter, in the town of Herrington New York.
One day, Cecily Madd, a college friend of Tate walks into their firm and hires Darby to look into some threatening notes her husband has been receiving over the last several months. According to Cecily, she thinks her husband’s life might be in danger.
Cecily and her husband are hosting a New Year’s Eve party at Garden Peak Lodge for friends and clients. To this end, they’ve reserved the lodge and the ski slope for the entire weekend for their private event.
Her husband is Dr. Garret Madd, a famous dermatologist in New York City. He even has his skincare line called MaddlyCare, which is worth fifty million dollars. He is using the weekend to have prospective partners pitch ideas to him.
Cecily thinks someone from the guest list wrote the note and she wants Darby to find the person writing the notes before it escalates.
To this end, Cecily asks Darby and Tate to come to the event posing as a couple. The guests are scheduled to arrive at the lodge on New Year’s Eve. The lodge originally belonged to Cecily’s father but he passed leaving the lodge to her. She hopes that the lodge can become a resource for MaddlyCare and its partners.
But during the event, Garrett makes a shocking announcement, catching his wife off guard.
Soon after the party, Darby learns more about Dr. Madd from the guests either by direct conversation or by eavesdropping on them.
From what Darby gathers, Dr. Madd isn’t very well-liked by the people coming to his party.
While working out in the gym, Darby looks through the window and sees a human form sprawled out on the side of the mountain. It appears the person may have fallen and is having difficulty getting back up.
When she goes to inquire who it is, she discovers Dr. Garret Madd lying dead, with an arrow sticking out of his back.
She quickly calls the police and the Herrington Police Department arrives.
A well-crafted mystery in a beautiful setting. I enjoyed how Darby and Tate solved the murder.
Included is a Goat Cheese Phyllo Puffs recipe which Darby couldn’t get enough of at the party.
Thank you to Amanda Fowler, NetGalley, and Hallmark Publishing for the arc of this book.

SAD THAT THIS SERIES IS OVER AFTER 2 BOOKS, BUT A GREAT 2 BOOKS THEY WERE - VINTAGE FLOWER AT HER FINEST!
PREMISE: A wealthy doctor invites many of his associates to spend a week at a giant, luxurious ski villa. Darby Piper, a seasoned private eye, and Tate Porter, her new partner at the detective agency, are among the guests, going undercover as a romantic couple. They were hired by the doctor’s much-younger wife to investigate anonymous threats against her husband’s life. But before long, Darby and Tate are investigating a murder instead.
THOUGHTS: Firstly, this will be my last wail of sadness over this being a duology! I absolutely loved this series as a whole and really wish we could have had many more books in this series! As for Frozen Detective, I loved the premise and enjoyed spending time with Daby and Tate at the lodge. We also meet this large dog who is comedically named "Tiny" haha, who I loved! I called two things in this book (which doesn't happen often so I count that as a win). All in all a good book. Just sad that the series is not continuing especially given how we were very clearly set up for book 3. In saying that, truly honored to read another fantastic cozy mystery series by my fave cozy author!
When a classmate of Darby and Tate hires the detectives to find out who is sending threatening notes to her husband Darby is leery of taking the case. Tate insists on taking the case which sends the detectives to a plush ski resort. It isn't long before their fears are confirmed and the husband is killed. Darby and Tate now have to find out who the murderer is before all of their suspects leave the mountain.
Frozen Detective is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series. I enjoyed the mystery as it took several twists and turns that kept me engaged in the story. As always in an Amanda Flower cozy mystery there is an animal character that finds its way into the readers heart. Darby and Tate are still new partners so their relationship is still tentative, but they are learning to trust each other. I think that Tate has some secrets that will hopefully get a chance to be revealed in future books. I enjoyed the setting of the story as well. I look forward to the next book in the series.
**Thank you to Hallmark publisher through Netgalley for my copy of the book to review. All opinions are my own**
It's almost New Years Eve and business is slow for the private detective agency of Piper and Porter. Darby is asked by her friend Cecily to go undercover (with her partner, Tate Porter) to try to figure out who is threatening Cecily's very successful husband, a dermatologist. The location of the posh New Years event is a large ski resort Cecily inherited from her father. The location makes for a fantastic locked room mystery with a suspect list that includes the entire guest list - except, of course, Piper and Porter. It's a satisfying mystery start to finish and I enjoyed every page. My thanks to the publisher Hallmark and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
