From death to danger and malice to mystery, Samson and Delilah have weathered many storms. Finally, things should be going smoothly. Except life’s never that simple in Bruncliffe, is it?
As the couple are beset with worries about their upcoming wedding, a charismatic celebrity comes knocking on the Dales Detective Agency’s door, seeking their services. Samson is initially reluctant to help, for many reasons. But things quickly escalate following a shocking murder at Fellside Court and, as a friend comes under suspicion, Samson and Delilah must set aside their personal problems to catch a killer.
In a case that will bring so many of Bruncliffe’s secrets out into the open, this final investigation for the Dales Detectives may be the one that breaks them for ever . . .

Ils vont tellement me manquer...
Massive thanks to Julia Chapman and Pan Macmillan for giving me a copy of this to review.
Wow, what a finish to this series! I have to say, I am glad that this series has a certain end point – some series just sort of finish without a real conclusion, but you get a positive and definite conclusion to this series which is brilliant. I have to admit to crying at the epilogue actually, happy tears for Delilah and Samson.
I just have to say that I called Troy’s pub bet straight away – who else was it going to be (without spoiling anything)? I loved how the Dales Detective Agency has expanded, but there is a sense of change coming hanging over this story. Nathan, Nina, and Gareth come more to the fore as the series comes to its conclusion, alongside Ida. It really is the characters and the backdrop of the close community of the Yorkshire Dales that makes these stories, and this series really come to life and draw you in.
The story is fast paced, though the beginning is a little slow to get going, possibly building tension and setting up all the strings which will come together at the end. There are some emotional, comic, and beautiful moments all mixed together. The murder itself I had no idea who was responsible for ages, but then I had a brainwave which was partly true. The solution is not what you expect, for sure! Though I enjoy being surprised – I find murder mystery books aren’t as enjoyable if you figure it out too easily or early on.
I’m really going to miss returning to Bruncliffe, and seeing the adventures of Samson, Delilah, Ida, and the rest. But I also can’t wait to see if Julia Chapman is going to write something else, and what that might be!
I ended up enjoying this series as a whole after finding the first book a bit slow and confusing with too many characters. However, this last installment was disappointing. It was pretty clear that the murder/death threats were all due to the three new characters suddenly introduced, and it went on far too long. It desperately needed some breathing space in the plot for Samson and Delilah to focus on their upcoming wedding instead of all their issues being resolved in a couple of lines and the wedding tacked on as an epilogue. I will miss the secondary characters most of all. I really want to know more about Barry! And the journey of Clive Knowles from unkempt farmer to wedded bliss was easily the best character development of the series. As for Samson and Delilah, I'm just glad it's fiction. In real life, his immature jealousy and overreaction every time Delilah is seen smiling at another man would probably end very differently.

Yet another excellent cosy crime novel by Julia Chapman - the final instalment in what has become one of my favourite series. Just like the previous books, Date with Destiny is fast paced, witty, features all the characters we know and love and paints a beautiful pictures of the Dales. The start of this story was maybe a bit slow, but overall it was just as enjoyable as the rest of the series, and I'm very sad there won't be any further books featuring Samson, Delilah and Bruncliffe. I can only recommend this series to anyone! 4.5 stars rounded up
What will I do now??? I think I was late to the party with these books but I can honestly say that I have loved everyone from start to finish. When I am in the town I actually feel like I am going to see the characters!! Really enjoyed them all and the last one didn’t disappoint xx
This was the final book in this series and it was perfect. I just loved everything about these books, the characters, the story lines and the ending. The books are a funny heart warming mystery with no smut. Just my type of book. I highly recommend these books if that is your genre.
This is a rating for the series as a whole which has now sadly come to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed the cosy crimes tackled by the Dales Detective Agency. There’s warmth and wit and a great story arch across all 10 books, with strong supporting characters, which I’m sure faithful followers will be satisfied has been neatly wrapped up.
Beyond sad that this is the last book in the series! It was perfect! Looking forward to reading the whole series again in a few years. I can't believe I've been faithfully reading a book a year for 10 years in this series. What will I do now?! Goodbye Bruncliffe!
Loved the final book in life in Bruntcliffe. (Settle) So sad it's the last one. Read it in 2 days and could not put it down book. Never walked the river walk but will be doing this on my next Tuesday market visit.
It's a shame when a series is rather too long for its own good. For me, the first half dragged out a situation that has been gone into over and over again. The second half was much better. Hence, 3 stars not the 1 I'd have given for the first half.
