Fittingly, his name was shadow. He'd crept swiftly and silently through the dense Burmese jungle to rescue Riley McDouglas from the wrecked plane, his silence and opaque gray eyes revealing only that he had secrets -deadly ones. The first book in this series worked much better for me; this left me rather cold and unsold on the romance. The hero was definitely a sad loner who we don't really get to know much. He is DEA and has been undercover in Myanmar for 18 months to avenge his best friend's death. He has had to become even more cold the past few months to survive in his hell-hole and then up comes the stupid, naive heroine crashing into his life. The heroine is a small-town girl forever restless who decides to turn her routine travel assignment into doing something exciting (and stupid), flying into a guerilla camp. When she wakes up imprisoned atleast she does realise how stupid she has been and decides to try to escape; because the ruthless leader will rape and kill her. The reason I didn't like this much was because Shadow, the hero gave off vibes of cold Anne Stuart heroes to me and I couldn't see or fathom the attraction between them when the heroine saw him as a mercenary who wouldn't come to her aid. Even when they do escape and go back to the States I wasn't buying their romance. Disappointing read.

SHADOW'S FLAME - VG
Scott, Alicia (aka Lisa Gardner) - Standalone

In thirty-six hours, he would deliver her to her fate ....

The combination of a reporter, DEA Agent and a drug lord made this a very good read.
