Three college friends immerse themselves in the experience, each looking to achieve their dreams. For Melody Wilkins, that means finding her one true love in college like her parents found with each other, and to live her life with the same type of “happily ever after” relationship they have. For Imani Jordan, she dreams of hard work, excellent grades, and her future as a chemical engineer. For Lance Dunn, his dream is the NFL, and why casual sex is always on his agenda, he is very serious about his career goals and about protecting the two girls in his life that he truly loves: Melody and Imani. During the course of their time at college, Imani, the single-minded one, will discover she actually has romantic feelings for a long time friend, and has to make a choice whether or not to pursue them. Lance continues to excel on the field, where the gathering of fans shout his name in catch phrases. Melody believes she has found love, but what she has found will put the lives of all three of the friends in grave danger. Will their friendship survive the ultimate test?

Naïve Melody has fallen for a young man named Kevin. His is perfect in her eyes; she believes she has found her one true love. In fact, she sees him as so perfect that she ignores every red flag that appears when she is with him, no matter how they escalate or what her two best friends say about him. Imani develops true feelings for Trevor, her childhood friend and lab partner, and the feelings are mutual, but Imani waffles as to whether she should act on them or put her career choice first. Lance is a star athlete and an excellent friend and protector when it comes to the two girls. Romances are on the back burner, though, as their multicultural friendship takes center stage. I wish everyone could experience the type of loyal friendship described in the book. Everyone should have at least one of these types of friends in life, looking out for them with the same care, honesty, and devotion! “The Colors of Friendship” is a captivating story that has the reader racing through all their feelings and back through again. Parts of the story absolutely gutted me, and based on past experience I saw it coming right from the beginning, which made it extremely difficult for me to read. (In fact, there should be a trigger warning that the book contains domestic violence). If you are not triggered, this is a deep, meaningful, intelligent, and emotional book, and I would gladly recommend it. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I’d like to thank AuthorsXP, K.R. Raye, and J-pad Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.

The Colors of Friendship is a great story. The characters are interesting and diverse, something I would expect from the title. I absolutely loved Imani’s voice. She was the sassy, classy and loyal friend with a focus on her education, which is tested throughout the book. Lance’s typical male jock attitude felt fresh because you rarely get a guys POV on his admitted doggishness. Melody was written true to type as a young, naive, hopeless romantic and what she goes through makes you understand how complex abuse issues can be. Raye does a great job of writing about the subtleness of abuse.

Raye tackles (pun intended) some heavy topics in this book and and the conclusion while tragic felt believable and not at all predictable.

I had three concerns about the book:

The familiarity of these characters felt unbelievable considering they only just met at fall semester freshman orientation and the book begins at the start of the spring semester of their freshman year. I wanted them to be childhood friends.
I had no idea one of the race of one of the characters until Chapter 18 and it wasn’t until after the author described her did some of what happened at the beginning of the book make sense.
I had forgotten about the prologue by the time I got to the ending, which makes me think what was the point.
Now to what I loved. There was a lot of good writing in this book and these two scenes are done masterfully by Raye.

Studying in the Library – It was one of the best written sex scene I have ever read. It had the right about of sexiness, emotion and for lack of a better term, it was hot. Plus, the twist at the end had me saying, “Aww man,” out loud.
Game Time – As someone who is very critical of sport written into books, I was please to discover Raye knows her football. It was my favorite scene and if you need a lesson on writing sports into a book, use this scene as a reference.

This book was an interesting yet enjoyable read. It explores friendship in all forms and the bonds that tie people together. Imani, Melody, and Lance were all great characters. The connection between them all and the support for each other and the situations they encounter are all very relatable. Melody was the romantic trying to find love and herself. Imani was career oriented but still trying to find things she wanted in her life. Lance was the football star who liked women, but still understood the importance of friendship.
Together their story is somewhat intense, but all around relatable in some way shape or form. Book 1 for this series was a great start

The Colors of Friendship is the first book in the Colors Trilogy by K.R. Raye. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Reye, so I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book. But, who could resist such a pretty cover, and the blurb did intrigue me- so I grabbed a copy and started to explore.
What I found was a NA contemporary story with themes of friendship, romance, suspense, college life, challenges, lessons, emotion, and abuse. Some themes could be considered triggers by some readers- so be warned (abuse/ domestic violence).
While the story is fairly interesting- I felt it was very slow to get going, and lagged and dragged a lot through the book. This made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story as I kept being ‘pulled out’ of the storyline. And because I wasn’t fully immersed in the story, I became easily distracted, which I think affected my ability to fully connect with the characters and invest in them and the outcome of their story.
I really did want to love this book so much more than I did, but I as this is the author’s debut novel (she has written 2 more since then) and the first book in a trilogy, I will wait to read the other two books to see if the issues I had here were just a one-off thing or not, and where the story goes from here.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, K.R. Raye!

Thanks to the lovely author who sent me a free copy in return for an honest review.
'The Colours of Friendship' is a novel with many interesting themes, reading about the journey and growth of the 3 best friends was lovely and so incredibly dramatic.

The story follows 3 best friends in uni, Melody, Imani and Lance. The book shows them growing as people, changing, falling in and out of love and the problems that come with that. The main issue is with Melody who finds instant love in Kevin. Melody is a hopeless romantic, sometimes I really disliked her and continuously eye-rolled whilst reading her bits. She was very gullible but you couldn't help but like her because of how optimistic and lovely she was all the time.

Imani was absolutely hilarious, I loved reading all her scenes and her sarcastic quips.
"He told me he loved me Tuesday night", she whispered.
"Whaatt? Get the hell outta here. Wait did you say it first and trap the man into saying it?"

Even though she was sarcastic all the time I felt that there was a big vulnerability in her, and it was great reading about her on/off 'thing' with Trevor.

Lance is the ladies' man, and the big, athletic sporty guy. I felt like the story could have really delved into his man-whory ways and there was something there that Ms Raye could have developed but hopefully she does so in the second book. I loved how much he loved Imani and Melody and it's great that Ms Raye didn't do the cliche thing and make them fall in love with each other!
"Melody mentioned a couple of times before that her folks met sophomore year. Guess she‘s trying to beat their record."

This book is written in the 3rd person and it wasn't the best way to write this story. I feel it would have been 10x better if we were inside the heads of the characters especially because some of the scenes were very personal. We would have gotten a lot more depth to the characters if it was written in the 1st person.

All in all, I did enjoy this story and I hope to read Ms Raye's next instalment!

****I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review****

True friendship endures all obstacles…right?

Lance, Melody and Imani are great friends and they would do anything for one another.

Melody is a hopeless romantic and hopes to find her true love in college just like her parents did. But instead of finding her true love she finds the biggest jerk she can, KEVIN. Kevin always says the right things and acts the right way when they are out with Melody's friends. But Imani see's things that others don't and she is worried about Melody.

These three friends have to be strong to get through what is happening to Melody. Kevin is becoming abusive and Melody is giving him the benefit of the doubt. But Lance and Imani aren't going to let things go so easily.

The ending of the story is a sad one but honestly I didn't feel bad for Kevin at all, I did feel bad for Melody and all of her friends.

I wish I could give this story 3.5 or even 4 stars instead of 3. I did enjoy it but I wish Melody was written as a stronger person. Even strong people can be abused, but she seamed so childlike I just didn't care for her. If Melody was a little more like Imani I think it would have been better. Melody seams to live in her own little fairy world.

With that being said I do look forward to reading the second and third books in this trilogy.

With an ending like that, it leaves you wanting more..

***Free copy received by author in exchange for an honest review***

The book to me started off slow with hints of drama (pretty intense drama I should say) here and there. Having completed the book now, I see how necessary it was. In the end, I appreciate the pace the book took allowing the reader to get to know each character just enough to know how they tick but still leave you wanting to learn more about them and see how things end for them.

The concept of a group of friends in college is not a new one, however the angle this book takes it is one that I have yet to see in another book. The Colors of Friendship has some deep topics. Ones that many people, not only young individuals but people of all ages, face. The fact that they are college students facing this situations is sad but I for one know it has been known to happen.

I hope I have peaked your interest thus far because this book is certainly worth the read. The end will leave you reeling and wanting for more. I have no doubt about that. I am anxiously looking forward the next installment in the series.

Trigger warning – there is domestic violence/an abusive relationship.

Lance, Imani and Melody meet and instantly click. The Colors of Friendship is about friendship, watching the characters grow as individuals and become besties. It is about their journey through good times and bad times and times that will test their friendship.

Lance wants to have fun and is our resident sports jock and any lady will do man and makes no apologies but he would do anything for his two besties.

Imani is sassy, sarcastic and serious about her study and loyal friend. She had me laughing at her banter.

Melody is naïve and a fairy tale romantic at heart and sees the best in people leading to her falling for the biggest a’hole who is good at masking who he is. This took up most of the book which I found to be a slow read in the start but picked up near the end. I also found it hard to relate to/invest in her a lot of the time because she spent a lot of time in the clouds and wanted to shake her to wake up.

When things take a turn for the worst Melody will need her friends more than ever.

"The Colors of Friendship" by K.R. Raye is a fun-filled story about three college friends, Imani, Melody and Lance. Quite different in character they seem to have different goals in their lives; the girls are looking for love and Lance for football and fun - yet, they are very close.
The main focus in this first book of the series seems to be on Melody who falls for Kevin who is a controversial figure and seems to come between Melody and her friends.
The book is quite explicit in the erotic parts but in other parts reads like a contemporary chick lit with the usual themes of nightlife, parties, parental influence and growing up.It is entertaining and the conflicts between the characters have been developed well.
As a first in the series it will be interesting to see where the plot follows on from here.

This was an enjoyable and engaging novel about true friendship and the obstacles that can get in the way of that friendship. Melody, Imani, and Lance are three college friends, who are either searching for true love, NFL fame or a successful engineering career. Melody is the naive romantic one, who’s aim is to find true love whilst at college, just like her parents did, but is she willing to sacrifice her soul to find it. Imani, is at college to gain a chemical engineering degree and is aiming for good grades, but will she miss out on the friendship that could offer her more. Lance is serious about his football and protecting his girls, and his protection is needed when a threat appears and tests more than their friendship.
When Melody meets Kevin, she thinks she’s found true love, but will her quest for love endanger not only her life but that of her friends. I liked all three of the main characters, who are very likeable and relatable, and the dynamic between the friends rings true, with the dialogue between them feeling very natural. I liked how the book is written with all three of them having a voice and telling the story from their own points of view. I thought the prologue gave away a bit too much of the storyline, which took away some of the suspense for me, but it didn’t stop me from happily turning the pages. The storyline deals with some difficult themes, but does so sensitively. I felt immersed in the friends world and I look forward to the next two books in this trilogy.

The Colors of Friendship (The Colors Trilogy Book 1) by K.R. Raye

The Colors of Friendship is the first book in The Colors Trilogy. I honestly wasn’t sure quite what to expect going in but once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down. There are some things that may be a trigger for some as there is some scenes with Domestic violence. This is a fairly new author to me and I definitely plan to check out what other books they have written. This authors style of writing along with amazing characters make for a fun yet emotional ride. This is a story about Melody,Imani and Lance these three meet at college and click. Melody is the romantic type and wants to be like her parents and find her true love while in college. Imani is the non nonsense type and she wants yo obtain a Engineering degree while obtaining good grades. Then there’s Lance and he’s all about protecting his girls f and of course football. These three are all opposite yet there friendship means everything. When Melody gets in a situation will Lance be able to save her before it’s too late? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author and this Trilogy.

The Colors of Friendship
By K.R. Raye
5*

This book tells the story of three college students who are friends embarking on the edge of independence. As a 30 something this book really hit home on how I viewed myself and my friends in our twenties. These three friends are navigating college together and the author does a great job illustrating college life, their love lives, parties, etc. However what I believe the author does best is illustrate how relationships can change over time. It shows how, with startling accuracy, how simple it is for women (and men) to fall into an abusive, controlling relationship. It also does an excellent job showing what the friends of those in these relationships go through. I will admit, the story hit home for me in many ways. The Colors of Friendship is the first in a trilogy and I cannot wait to read the second book. Because as we all know, the decisions we make have lasting impacts on the people around us. I can only hope that the second book continues to explore these friendships and their relationships with the same level of depth that was featured in this book!

All I have to say is WOW! The Colors of Friendship is a very powerful novel. With some very dark themes. Be mindful going into it, I was hesitant but I’m so glad I took the leap. Three friends meeting at college orientation for different things.
I felt at that age I related the most to Imani. I was that friend, still am. No nonsense, tell it like it is, but will always be there for you. Unfortunately I could also say I related to Imani even more based on what her character went through and fought for. I’ve been in those situations. Outside looking in, in a terrible situation. Letting the one you care for go for someone else in your circle.
Then there’s Lance, I’ve known quite a few Lance’s in my life. People like Lance, you want on your side, unfortunately till they grow up they only make good friends.
Now there’s Melody, the main focus of this novel. Unfortunately my best friend growing up was a Melody when it came to relationships. Just takes us back to the outside looking in, knowing that no matter what you do or say it doesn’t matter it won’t get through. Which is exactly why Melody believed everything boyfriend Kevin said and challenged Imani.
If you’ve ever been in any type of abusive relationship, approach this book with caution. The author does a phenomenal job with each character, and setting the themes throughout.
They always say you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends. My friends are my family. I want friends like Imani and Lance in my life. I hope Melody sees that going into book 2, she’s going to need them. Especially with how book 1 ended, and no I’m not telling. You are just going to have to read it for yourself!

I don’t know where to begin. This whole time whilst reading this novel I was thinking that something was going on between Melody and Kevin, even more sinister than what really happens, though I will not give anything away. This author truly had my mind running around in circles, wondering what was going to happen next. I thoroughly love the kinship that the three of them share, being Imani, Lance, and Melody, certainly one to be cherished, as chosen family is so special in so many ways.

I did feel like this novel seemed to go on a little longer than it needed to, as I did find myself thinking that this is where the climatic part was, and this is where it was going to be, and so on. I do find this to be a common occurrence within the pages of a first installment, taking away from holding my breath at times. The pressures pressed upon us by other scenarios and expectations as we enter adulthood are made very apparent in this novel, which I applaud. I will be reading the rest of the series and looking forward to getting to know the other characters more intimately. Well done!

This was a nice read, I really enjoy college themed stories and this one did not miss for me. I enjoyed following Imani, Melody and Lance and it was nice to be able to read see each of their perspectives through the book. Three college students with three different dreams and three different paths. It was also so nice to see such a strong friendship between the three of them, it was a very refreshing to see such a solid friendship while in college. I’m used to reading about a lot of toxic friendships in that age range. There was some domestic violence involved in this book so that may be a trigger for some, but it was written so well, and realistically & could be helpful for some going through similar situations out there. I really do look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

The Colors of Friendship is a pretty straightforward read, not TOO in depth, and easy to follow. The story is about 3 best friends that love and protect each other. Melody is a childlike romantic, living with her head in the clouds, and wants nothing more than to find her Prince Charming. Instead, she bumps into Kevin (literally) and while he seems to have the ability to always know what to say, he is far from her Prince. Imani is level headed and focused on her studies and career goals. Unlike Melody, she has no interest in finding a love interest. Then, Trevor comes along, great friends that they are…..And then you have Lance, the football star and womanizer. The irony here is that he uses women for his own pleasures (frequently) but is severely protective if HIS girls (Melody and Imani). There are some triggers in here for romantic scenes and abuse, so that should be known as well….Overall, There are plenty of peaks in this book, and the plot and dialogue flows effortlessly, but it just was not my preference in style. I do think others will enjoy this read, however, so I will leave it as a 4 star.

When a book gets you at its dedication and acknowledgment you know you in for a treat !

When someone is honest and cares their heart like this “ First let me give thanks to God for gifting me with the writing bug that I just couldn’t kick . To my exquisite husband …. ❤️ how precious , thank you for sharing your heart

I then read the prologue and my blood runs cold …..

What an epic read this was and characters really just climb into your heart .

Armani is really studious and want to achieve and she does and Melody you just won my heart from the get go with your fairytale like belief in everything , I think you and I could be great friends

Lance , you amuse me but you have a good heart

There was so much going on and I don’t say it in a negative way at all , so many topics touched on and dealt with but in essence it was about the friendship these people shared and it’s so very precious and their journey had me in tears , had me shaking my head and there were times I just wanted to put it down and walk away but my perseverance was rewarded ❣️📕

The Colors of Friendship Book 1 by K.R. Raye

Great read—especially for young adults! Ms. Raye did a magnificent job captivating the audience and making them feel that they were also in the circle of friendship! Excited for book 2 in the series—very enjoyable and I love how she portrayed how you never really know what is going on behind closed doors in relationships. A beautifully written story that continually draws the reader in!
This story follows the lives of three best friends as they navigate family, relationships, the ups & down of friendship, and falling in love….& the struggles they face because of their differences. The author does a marvelous job outlining abuse and how it not only affects the person being abused, but also affects those who love the victim of abuse. The twist at the end is something you don’t see coming! Fabulous read! Looking forward to the remainder of the books in this trilogy.

Was an interesting read about a few friends in college and some of the trials they come up against. What I wasn't expecting was the plot twist and sudden cliffhanger at the end. I definitely could understand the kids as I was about the same age as them in that era. I felt that as college kids they sure watched a lot of movies and seemed to have a bit more free time but I was a college kid that had several jobs and had to drop out of college (even with a full scholarship) because I was working so much in order to have a place to live so maybe that was the difference. The characters do seem relatable other than the dialect but I am assuming that is a difference of New York versus Southern California. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was an excellent book about three friends and their relationships, with each other and with other friends made in their freshman and sophomore years of college. These three friends, Lance, Imani and Melody have a great relationship, but have to figure out how to balance friends, school and romantic relationships. When Melody meets and starts dating Kevin, they quickly become attached at the hip and are inseparable, so when Kevin starts to become abusive and controlling, Melody decides to overlook the issues, and starts to blame herself for what is happening. This book is very good at covering what abuse looks like, both psychological and mental, and the view from the outside looking in (from Imani and Lance, though mostly Imani), and from the inside, with the victim often believing themselves because they are being love bombed into thinking that they are the problem and they are the reason for whatever is wrong in the relationship.

I am truly looking forward to reading the other two books in this series. The characters are relatable, and the story pulls you in from the beginning.

This was a wonderful story. The author does a great job showing how abuse affects the victim and those around them. Melody is a naïve, hopeless romantic. She is hoping to find the love of her life in college just like her parents. Imani is sassy, loud and unapologetic. She is an extremely loyal friend and it shows. Lance is a star football player, he’s hoping to get into the NFL. He also will do anything for his 2 best friends.

A couple of concerns I had:
-The 3 of them are incredibly close, you would think that they were childhood friends. When really they just met at orientation. It seemed weird how their friendship was seeing they didn’t know each other that long

-The ending seemed incomplete. I know there are other books to come. The ending just seemed oddly abrupt, it felt like something was missing.

Outside of a few small issues from me, I am very interested in how their friendship evolves as they grow!

This was a great read that was centered around college friendships. I enjoyed that friendship was the main theme and thought it was a good choice to place the romantic relationships in the background. Melody, Imani, and Lance have found such a great balance of school and friendship, always supporting each other through everything! There is a switch in point of views with each chapter which can feel a little quick but is refreshing as you don’t get fatigued by too many details. Throughout the story I feel one of the main characters, Melody, seemed to lack a little depth so she didn’t feel quite as real as the others. I finished it in one day as I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. I can’t wait to pickup the second book!

This book was okay. I could see the theme the author was trying to do, I just don’t think it was executed well. Every time I read “mommy” I cringed. It gave Melody a child like persona instead of an adult one. I do appreciate that the black characters didn’t have an exaggerated version of AAVE like other authors try to do. I wish this book was more realistic to the ages of the characters and the college experience.

The Colors of Friendship is about just that, friendship. It explores different worlds that come together to cross paths you wouldn’t think to collide. The author had an uncanny ability to make you think, feel, and react to what the characters have to go through. It did seem to have a slower start that what I personally enjoy, but making it through the beginning and into the meat of the book proved to be completely worth it. I definitely recommend relishing this book and allowing yourself to continue up to the very end, as it is completely worth it!

This book is about three college friends. Imani, Melody and Lance have very different personalities but they are there for each other. This story gives you a variety of different college experiences, partying, friendship, studying, meeting new people, and making romantic connections. This may be a trigger for some people because of a relationship that becomes abusive. This book was well written and the characters are well developed. This book brings out different emotions while reading. I was kept captivated throughout the entire story. I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.

I enjoyed the fact that one of the main focuses in this book is the relationship between friends. Even with other things going on that was always right at the heart of the book. The book was well thought out with some strong themes running through.
This is a newer author to me and I enjoyed thr way the story was crafted. Although I thought it was quite an easy read I also found that it had depth and emotion throughout. This is a great start to a new trilogy and I will definitely be reading book 2.

My actual rating is 4.5 stars!!

This was a roller coaster ride book for me!
In the beginning I was a bit hesitant but as I started reading more and more the book just captured my attention and I couldn't put it down until I finished the book!

I don't even know how to describe the characters in this book:
First there was Melody who believes in fairytales and love and happily ever after. And when she met Kevin she just went in all the way heart/head and everything else. And she thought she found what she was looking for! But people can be deceiving and they can mislead you! For me, I just knew from the minute she met him and the way he acted towards her there was something not quite right.

Then there is Imani who I love love love! She is just awesome and the best friend ever, she can be
my friend anytime. She would do anything for her friends and you can just see it in her actions and the way she doesn't let anyone take advantage of them! This is a girl who will always have your back! But she doesn't know a good thing when it hits her! My heart just went out to poor Trevor who is always there in the background. (And wow that steamy library scene, hot hot hot!!) And I know that she is going to wake up one day and just know that she is meant to be with him. (Or maybe just cause I like him and want them to be together, lol)

And then my favourite Lance the Man-Whore! (lol, don't like that word but yah no comment) What I liked about him is that even though he has all these women who he has these one night stands with, like he says he tells them upfront what the 'deal' is! And what just put him in my heart is the fact that no matter where he was or what he was doing he would always check in with his girls!

The book I think a lot of young people can relate to who has there first real love and also what to look for in a man. But its also a lesson to the young women who when they think they meet the perfect guy just goes in with their heart and body and soul! And not think of taking their time and also what warning signs to look out for, and also thinking that they can change someone to what they want them to be!

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what real life is like! What good friends life gives you and to never take them for granted cause you never know when you might need them to tell you things that you don't want to hear or to be the voice of reason.

I can't wait for the next one to see where their roads will end up!

Thank you to K.R for giving me this opportunity to read this book definitely looking forward to more!

First of all I'd like to thank the author K.R. Raye for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

I think the idea for this book is a good one, a story of an abusive relationship with young students as people tend to think it is only poor drunken old guys who abuse women rather than smart, good locking students. Despite this, for the most part of the book I was waiting for something to happen. I know the general idea for the book was to show how Melody gets so caught up in the relationship she doesn't realise how awful Kevin is, but I think it was dragged on for so long that the book was basically over by the time I got interested. Of course I had an idea what was coming from reading the prologue and when it all started to happen it was great, but there was probably no more than 15 pages where I was wanting to read on in that way where you just can't read fats enough.

I thought the writing in what I can only describe as 'black English' (correct me on the technical term if you want) was different to what I'm used to reading and at times I thought it seemed a bit fake or forced, but I guess it could be as I'm not used to reading it or talking it myself. I admire the author for doing this.

I did like Imani and Lance (my guess is those two getting together in book three), and thought the three had a great friendship together. At times though the conversations were a bit strange and fairly boring.

I was also a bit confused with this book as it seemed like a young adult in terms of setting, writing style etc but the graphic detail in the sex scenes shocked me at first, I just wasn't expecting it. Not saying it was good or bad, just surprised me.

This review seems negative I know but I do feel like I want to read book two which I guess is the point! The last few pages were great and made me want to know more....

The Colors of Friendship by K.R. Raye revolves around three friends as they adventure through college. Melody is quite the romantic, waiting for her prince charming. Imani is all about her education, succeeding, and landing that dream job. Lance's priorities are football and his girls--Melody and Imani.

Melody meets her potential prince and things move quickly in their relationship, making things difficult between her and her friends. Only everyone doesn't see what happens behind closed doors. Things aren't always as wonderful as they appear or as we like to imagine they are.

Imani, always focusing on school, finds there may be more to life and more to a particular friendship. But is she willing to risk it or will her mind rule over her heart?

Lance may have one-night stands on a regular basis, but he's definitely faithful when it comes to protecting his favorite ladies. When the time comes, and lives are on the line, will he make it in time?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Its well-written with very realistic, strong characters. The storyline, with both suspense and romance, keeps you intrigued and you're left wanting more in the end. It touches on some very sensitive issues that we see in real life, especially in the college environment. We are often blinded by new love and Melody is definitely blinded and can't see the seriousness behind what is an abusive relationship. Then you have Imani, who fights back any urge to make more of a good friendship. I believe most people can relate to that scenario. And Lance is the friend we can all hope for. Loyal, honest, and always there. The friendship the three share is heart-warming and one worth reading about.
