A steamy, full-length, standalone romance with a guaranteed HEA from Amazon Bestselling author J.H. Croix! If you like smoking hot romance with alpha men and strong women, you’ll love this series!
Sometimes when you stumble and fall, you discover who’s there to catch you.
Lacey Adams runs at life full bore. She’s a tomboy of the highest order and doesn’t think twice about striding deep into the wilds of Alaska to lead backcountry hikes. She lives and breathes independence and doesn’t rely on anyone. Until life throws her a curveball, and she falls right into the arms of Quinn Haynes.
Quinn is conveniently strong enough to catch Lacey’s fall. He also happens to be an old friend whom she just noticed is way too sexy for her own good. How Lacey managed to get by without ever noticing Quinn was smoking hot, she didn’t know. Now, every time he’s near, she’s afraid she might melt into a puddle.
Quinn is returning home to Alaska after a few years away finishing his medical degree. Lacey might have never noticed him, but he most definitely noticed her. She’s just about the most beautiful woman he’s ever known, her strength and fearlessness so sexy she takes his breath away. He’d long ago given up ever thinking he might have a chance with her. Until one kiss from her sends his tamped down desire up in flames.
Lacey falls into Quinn’s arms for all the wrong reasons, but neither one of them can turn away from the sparks flying between them. Meanwhile, Lacey is facing down a challenge to the strength that defines her and finds herself turning to Quinn for support in ways she never imagined.
Can Lacey let down her guard and allow herself to fall in more ways than one? Can Quinn convince her that what lies between them is worth it?
*All novels in this series are full-length standalone novels with an HEA.

This was a good read. Lacey and Quinn have been friends for a long time. Quinn wants more but things get complicated. Lacey is dealing with some health issues and it turns her world upside down. Luckily she figures out what she wants and they get their happy ending.
Lacey is a tough as nail, smart, sassy and sexy as hell woman, just ask Quinn! So when she starts having medical issues while on a backwoods hike, she digs in and tries to refuse help. Not explaining things to her family and missing appointments. Quinn has been half in love with his friend Lacey since the first time they met. He’s a Dr with a Harvard degree, but he is the most laid back person Lacey has ever met. So what has her body humming and heart pounding on this trip? It’s never been like this before! We don’t get to choose the person our heart falls for and Lacey is having a tough time coming to terms with that! This book was many things, but boring wasn’t one of them! These two have amazing chemistry, sexy banter and steam up the sheets like crazy, however the best part for me...the love shown to Lacey by Quinn, during the times she felt weak. He cared for her, even when he knew it would drive her crazy! She could have called anyone, every time she had trouble, but she didn’t! She called Quinn! Check this book out now! Read all the books from JH, they have all the feels!
I’ve finished this whole series and every book is amazing. I’ve fallen in love with Diamond Creek and Alaska with it, not to mention the characters whom I’ve grown quite attached to! All the books contain a lovely, heart-warming and VERY hot romance. Although each book is a standalone, I recommend reading them in the proper order as we get glimpses and clues of the next couple in the current book, and get to see the evolution of the preceding couples in each new book we’re reading.
I absolutely loved Lacey and Quinn’s story. Lacey is Marley’s sister, so Gage Hamilton’s sister-in-law. Having Lacey deal with health issues makes this romance novel have a little more depth by addressing a serious subject. I totally melted to see how Quinn’s reaction towards Lacey was to become more protective, instead of being turned off by a complicated situation. Sometimes, even when it seems to come out of the blue, love comes just at the right time.

OMG This book is another awesome book in this series. Very emotional so keep tissue handy. This is about Lacey's struggle to accept that she has MS and that sometimes she will need to ask for help. She has always been the "brawny", strong, and independent one in the family. Quinn has been a good friend to Lacey for many years and they have worked together during that time off and on leading backcountry hiking trips. Quinn has always had feelings for her but has hidden them because she has never shown anything other than friendship until this year. Now they are acting on their feelings that are new to Lacey and it scares them both. Will Lacey finally accept her diagnosis or will she continue to fight it? Will they both fight their feelings for the other or will they finally admit to themselves and each other that they are in love?
Lacey is Marley’s sister who is a tough outdoors girl. She is faced with a medical challenge that rattles her self confidence. She is used to her independence but with this new challenge Lacey must find a way to ask for help from family and friends. Quinn is a long time friend who’s co-guided trips with her for years. He's also a doctor, so Dr. Quinn Medicine Man + rugged outdoors man + sexy as sin! How can you go wrong? Lacey has never seen him as anything other than a friend until this last trip. The attraction for her is quite sudden but Quinn’s had feelings for her for years. Can she find a way to let Quinn in? I love J.H. Croix the most for her descriptive writing. She describes the town of Diamond Creek and all of Alaska so beautifully that I want to hop on a plane and go see it. Each book is a HEA but once you read one you want to read them all!
Oh my heart!! This was the book of the series! It was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. When We Fall was the sixth book in J.H. Croix’s Last Frontier Lodge Series. It was sweet, swoony, and so emotional!
Lacey was a head strong, powerful, force of nature. She didn’t know how to take it slow. She was living life to the fullest until life tried to throw her off her game. Would she be able to ask for help when she needed it?
Quinn had been away for years but it was time for him to come home and settle down. He had always had eyes on Lacey but she never saw them as anything but friends. When her life started to crumble, would she let him in? Would both their hearts be on the line?
Wow! What an emotional ride, it was so heartfelt. I absolutely loved watching their story unfold and their love grow. Hands down, my favorite of the series!
Oh my Quinn.......... I found a new book boyfriend.......... lol... now let take a breath before I lay into Lacey!.......................................................................... I am fully aware that people can be stubborn, but seriously????? At some point in your life, you have to swallow your pride. Lacey’s was too high....too high to the point of losing the best thing that ever happened to her! Oy vey..... can she even talk and think at the same time?🙄. Anyway overall, I loved the story. I just didn’t love her stubbornness, sympathized with her but hated her stubbornness. But it worked out for them.😏
Long time friends and work colleagues, Lacey Adams and Quinn Haynes, discover a new attraction between them just as Lacey develops a serious medical issue. This charming narrative showcases Quinn's patience and determination in the midst of Lacey's constant state of angst and frustration at her unusual weakness brought on by her unexpected medical issues. Quinn has an uphill battle to win her heart and a future together as headstrong Lacey refuses to accept her illness and how that will affect her life, a life that could include Quinn. Who will have their way? Quinn and Lacey's story is worth reading to find out!!!!
The story battles amidst the steamy scenes that in the beginning lent themselves to the novel but then they became the story. The plot line had great potential but died because no real research was done. Ms. Croix missed a real opportunity to make this novel a must read instead it just limps along. I read it from start to finish but could only give it 2 Stars not because of the abundant sex scenes, as some people may think, but rather of the poor way in which the story was presented.
Good character. Loved the relationship between Quinn and Lacey. That whole friends to lovers thing is great because you to see two sides of the coin and build something on an already solid foundation. My only problem was Lacey. As someone who works in the medical field. I understand people who are in denial and those who don’t want to rely on others for help. But her whiny tendencies and complete lack of empathy toward how her friends and family felt about not being updated or in the know about instances where she could have been hurt were annoying.
I was excited to finally read about Lacey’s journey. I felt so much while reading, my emotions were all over the place. Quinn is truly amazing and so supportive, Lacey just needs to realize that wanting and needing help does not make her weak. Her bravery and strength was heartwarming to witness.
Absolutely loved the dedication in this book - “To all those who face the medical curveballs life can throw our way with bravery, humility and incredible strength.”
This series shows that people fall in love but don't always realize it at first. Lacey has always been that rough and outdoorsy type of girl, but still beautiful. Quinn knew Lacey from working together but then went back to do his residency to become a doctor. But he's back and helping her in a trip but something isn't right with her. But they finally realize they are more than friends.
I think this is the first time I’ve read anything by this author. It wasn’t bad. It was well written with interesting characters who were well developed. The illness of one of the characters was well written. There are some errors in the book that could have been easily corrected. I’ve come to realize these errors are probably only found on the ebooks. There are sexual scenes in this book. I recommend the story.
I knew from the first chapter this story would be different for several reasons. When a health scare brings Lacey and Quinn closer than just friends, the tension ramped up measurably. Lacey’s stubbornness was a challenge in helping her get her happily ever after. Another book that I couldn’t put down once I started.
Lacey is a thoroughly believable and likable character. She and Quinn were made for each other and, after being friends for many years she is realizing a strong attraction to him. Unknown to Lacey, Quinn has been in love with her since day 1! This story is well developed and very enjoyable.
This was a cute story. I loved how Quinn was always there when Lacey needed him. It made me sad what Lacey had to comes to terms with her health. Quinn always came to Lacey's rescue. My favorite kind of read. Good steamy scenes. Will definitely be reading this one over and over again.
J.H. Croix picks subject matter that tugs at your heart and puts together a believable story that will keep you turning the pages. With Lacey and Quinn, they each harbor deep feelings for each other but refuse to act upon them until tragedy threatens their friendship. A kiss may not be enough but will it cost them the happiness they feel?
The story was great but there was a real problem with details being repeated over and over again. I really don’t need things said more than once. While I also enjoyed some of the descriptions of Alaska there were times when it got a bit too detailed. Other than that I loved the plot and the characters.
I'm really enjoying this series set in Diamond Creek and all the characters. This is the second series JH Croix has set there and I've enjoyed them all. I loved Lacey and Quinn's story. I was really pulling for these two to work things out. I look forward to more books in the series.
I love all the books in this series and they just get better.I love the characters and their families and friends. This series will appeal to anyone who likes romance and good storylines.
I have read many books by this author and have enjoyed The Frontier Lodge Series. This is a story about two best friends who now realize they could be so much more. This is a love story with some spice. Unlike many modern tales this book does not contain violent scenes or pasts. Bravo!
I LOVE friends to lovers stories! This one has an outdoor living heroine and a BFF who also loves the outdoors and just so happens to have a Harvard medical degree. The setting is Alaska and it’s a very nice read.
I liked Lacey and Quinn, they were both strong well rounded people. Lacey is dealing with a tough health diagnosis and Quinn is there to help her through it. They went from good friends to in love without too much angst.
I wush J.H. Croix would hire a good editor. Her plotting is good, but as a writing teacher I would have to give her a terrible grade. Her punctuation errors, in particular, make Her books hard to understand.
This is a great friends to lovers story. Lacey and Quinn's story is full of heartfelt emotion and they struggle with their feeling for each other and Lacey's possible MS diagnosis. I love all the Diamond Creek books, it is such a great setting and all the characters are relatable.
