Lock & Key

Rate this book
Note to self:
Don’t fall for the incarcerated felon.
Don’t message him when your best friend feeds you enough wine to make it sound like a good idea, don’t take the bait when he teases you because you’re older, don’t answer his phone calls and swoon when you hear how charming he is.
Don’t get excited about the fact that he’s crazy possessive, absolutely obsessed, and has a jealous streak bright enough to light up the night sky.
You definitely aren’t allowed to agree to be his fake wife when he starts fantasizing about your futures, and for the love of everything, do not answer your door when he finally quits calling unless you know exactly who it is.
Just don’t do it.

It’s as easy as that, right? Too bad I’ve never been a good listener.

I need MORE!!!!!! 😫

5⭐️
3.5🌶

When in a slump and lonely but not wanting strings, why not become pen pals with a convict? Except what do you do when that convict, who was supposed to be in jail for ten more years, shows up at your house?

My Thoughts

Oh, my heart. All the feels. All the giggles. This book had me curling my toes, kicking my feet, and laughing out loud. The cutest, sweetest, heart-stopping novella I've ever read.

Osiris is all that and then some. An innocent, bad boy, harden criminal? Sign me the F up!! His hard exterior, coupled with his unworldy confusion, made him the new book boyfriend I didn't know I needed. He was blundering it all up and saying/ doing all the wrong things in the most adorable ways. His love for Sienna shone thew the pages.

Osiris, for being a Virgin when he meets her, is utterly feral. The bookstore scene will live rent-free in my head forever!!!

Octavia captured Osiris's voice and personality traits to the utmost perfection. I NEEDED more Osiris!! I NEED a sequel. They absolutely must grow old together. I want to read about his first real job, marriage, children. The further details of their happy-ever-after. My only complaint with this short novella was how desperately the author left me wanting so so much more.

Lock & Key popped up in a social media feed and I couldn’t resist giving it a try. Typically, I don’t go for the reverse age gap trope. I don’t know why, just isn’t really something I gravitate towards. But this particular reviewer raved about Osiris and well…here I am!

Sienna, stuck in her ways and single, finds herself communicating with a convict named Osiris. He’s everything she’d want but he’s safe because he’s behind bars for the foreseeable future…until he’s not.

Osiris was the perfect combination of golden retriever and german shepherd. Despite his lack of personal life experiences, this guy gave his all and was both panty melting and heart meltingly beautiful.

Sienna was a bit harder to like. I get the position she was thrust into and the changes that came with that but I felt like she kept expecting Osiris to make all the changes without also doing some introspective work on herself. I like reading about characters that grow in one way or another. Osiris was loyal and loving and I guess I missed some of that coming from Sienna. That being said, I do think Osiris made her a better version of herself and even accepted the parts of her that felt cold at times.

Lock & Key was more a slow burn in my opinion but when the heat cranked, it was so delicious. Osiris was dominant and possessive and Sienna was a beautiful picture of submissive strength. The story was wonderfully written with a bit of angst to keep me glued to the pages and I enjoyed the flaws of human nature strewn throughout. Overall, a really fun read with heat and heart!

Heat level: 5/5. I LOVE Dark Romance and it's been SO long since I've read a book where the FMC is older than the MMC. I was immediately sold. This is such a quick read because you dive in and want to keep reading. MMC is a virgin and has had A LOT of time to fantasize. So when they come together, he goes feral for her. Then you add in that this dude has the audacity to READ HER SMUT that's on her bookshelves to learn what she likes. I was dead. Osiris is top tier book boyfriend material. The bookstore scene 🥵🫠 good thing my menses were around because I was already prepared for flash floods. Dear gods. If you could bang a book boyfriend irl, he would definitely be one to ride.

Octavia is and always will be a one click author for me and she proves is every new book of hers.

Osiris, my sweet sweet felon and his obsession sienna . Sienna drunkly decides to try one of the prison penpal sites not knowing what she was getting herself into but damn if Osiris isn’t the gift that keeps on giving .

The way she gave Osiris and his back story so much depth and angst while still making sure that virgin can rail with the best of the book boyfriends. Sienna completely okay with living alone for ever and being a hermit getting her entire world shaken up by this over the top, possessive, and relationship immature man . It’s all chefs kiss. The spice is always on point , and the groveling and “I hate him but fuck I miss him” energy is my favorite. If you want a virgin convict MMC with lots of kinkery and obsession this is the book to read.

Also love the shout out to our baby Ardis of Darling devil, go read that too bc hot damn Kady knew what she was doing - especially if you love Oli Sykes 😏

I thought I was getting into a dark romance, but Osiris turned out to be an absolute golden retriever! And let me tell you, he was the best kind of golden retriever - sexy, dominant, and possessive. The banter and chemistry between the main couple was on fire, and the spice? Absolutely explosive! I also loved the FMC's best friend, their relationship was so relatable. My only complaint is that the resolution felt a bit lacking, but other than that, I loved Osiris and Sienna's story and will definitely be reading it again in the future!

Ah Osiris you have my heart, I was drawn to the blurb straight away because its not a setting I've read before and I loved it. The banter between the MMC and FMC in the beginning was 🤌 I basically read the whole book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down hands down 5* if you've read anything by this author before you know the spice is 🔥
I was super excited to get an arc of this book I can't wait to see what others think on release day.

Beta Read
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - imprisonment, drug addicted parents (past, recounted), child abuse / domestic abuse (past, recounted), attempted SA / rape (scs, past, loosely recounted), voluntary manslaughter (recounted), disowning (recounted), attempted groping (past, mentioned), car accident (driver was a sc driving under the influence, past, recounted), arson (sc, mentioned), alcohol, drugs (scs, mentioned)

CW - hand necklaces, public play, spanking, light degradation, edging, biting, breath play

Tropes - possessive, age gap, novella, prison pen pal

Representation - ADHD, anxiety

When Octavia told me she was writing a prison pen pal romance, my grabby hands came out 😅

This was a quick and fun read that stems from the drunken actions of Sienna (FMC) and the words of encouragement from her bestie when she sends a message to Osiris (MMC) in prison

I’ve not read a romance like this and I really enjoyed it. Osiris’ possessiveness is is THROUGH the roof but he feels big and hard and it was nice to read. He can be too much and recognises when he is, he just choose when he cares to do something about it and when he stands his ground 😅

Sienna reads Kady Ash books so clearly has taste and her and Osiris were hot and cute together - I expect nothing less from Octavia Jensen and their books 💋

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever

Summary: This is a contemporary, erotic romance novella. Spoilers/trigger warnings (if any) and final thoughts can be found below.

The FMC is Sienna. She’s tired of dating what feels like the same people over and over so she lets her friend talk her into joining an app called lock and key, which allows you to become penpals to inmates. She really thinks that she has nothing to lose. That’s how she meets the MMC Osiris.

Initially, they’re exchanging messages through the app, before they begin talking on the phone, which then carries on over the next several weeks, both of them looking forward to having those moments to talk. One night the door bell rings, she opens it and finds him standing there, and she had no idea that he was even supposed to be released. He lies to her and tells her that he is on parole, and while things are a little suspicious, she just sort of goes along with it.

Eventually the entire truth comes out and she is hurt by his betrayal, but also I don’t know if we ever fully understood the reason why he chose not to tell her the whole truth. Eventually, they work it out and she tries to understand a little bit more of where he might’ve been coming from, and the epilogue shows them together with their friends living happily ever after.

⚠️SPOILERS/DETAILED TRIGGERS⚠️

*Recollection of past abuse and witness to SA. Very little on page description from MMCs memory of the events.
🌶️: 4/5: It was a little slow to get there but once it started, it never really stopped.

Final thoughts: I liked this book. It was a nice palette cleanser. The initial banter between the characters was so good and really drew me in. There were parts of it that were a little weird and confusing, like I didn’t understand the full reason he lied. I guess he thought she wouldn’t continue talking to him if she knew he was set for release soon. I also thought that he had to perpetuate the lie of being on parole and needing a place to live that was stable as a condition of that parole so she would allow him to live there. That all felt a bit strange and it seemed to drag on but overall I liked it and would recommend.

🍷🗝 Lock and Key- ARC Review🗝🍷

Back again with another ARC review for Octavia Jensen. I absolutely love Octavia's short, smutty books because they never fail to make me laugh while being so HOT, and Sienna and Osiris are no exception.

"It's becoming clear that there's a fine line between true devotion and outright psychosis, but where I expect to feel fear, all I feel is...relief"

Lock and Key starts out with Sienna and her bestie having a typical drunken night and lamenting their lack of... action lately. Our girl Sienna is a homebody and has had terrible luck when her bestie, Lydia, gives her a terrible (amazing) idea to look into website where she can be paired with a prison inmate for their Lock & Key pen-pal program.

Enter a young and hot inmate, lot of wine, some very sassy messages, and a very possessive Osiris Soto who appears to be everything Sienna wants...from a distance.

This was a fun read and the in true Octavia fashion, the spice was SPICING 🌶. Sienna and Lydia cracked me up, Osiris' backstory made me want to give him the biggest snuggle, and there were moments where I wanted to slap both Sienna and Osiris for being idiots. This was the perfect amount of sexy, angsty, and funny.

Read if you like:

🍷Reverse Age gap
🗝Virgin MMC
🍷Obsessive/Possessive
🗝Forced Proximity
🍷Only one bed
🗝Prison pen pal
🍷He reads her smutty books
🗝Fake Marriage

Lock and Key is available now (because, yes this review is hella late; life happens) on KU/e-book and in paperback!

I loved this spicy and dark novella! Honestly, this author had me at dark romance & prison penpals.

After some drinks with a friend, Sienna signs up for a prison penpal program where she connects with Osiris. Sienna is very surprised when Osiris shows up at her door utterly obsessed with her and ready to start their life together.

I loved Osiris. He was very different from this author’s other MMCs because he had an innocence about him. He was locked up very young and is still a virgin when he meets Sienna. There is a lot he had to adjust to in his new life. However, his possessive obsession with Sienna helped him adapt quickly.

Osiris rocked Sienna’s world liters and figuratively.
She is a bit of a loner and is relatively closed off. Having Osiris in her space shook her and he had to work hard to break through her barriers. Luckily for her, Osiris was willing to do anything necessary (wink wink) to win her over.

I would love to see the author write more in this world! I loved Sienna’s wild best friend and also Osiris’s friend from prison. It would be great to see them both get stories!

Sienna stuck in her ways and single is convinced by her best friend, Lydia, to join a pen pel website called Lock & Key, for convicts in prison. With a lot of liquid courage Sienna thinks why not, and emails an inmate named Osiris, with Osiris in prison for murder and not eligible for parole for another ten years she thinks what's the harm. Osiris has been in jail since he was 16, he has missed most of his life, especially with the female population, so when he receives Sienna's email he grabs hold with both hands. The two build a friendship even relationship over the months, dreaming of the what ifs, and the maybes.
Osiris one day shows up at Sienna's door claiming to have been released from prison and out on parole, needing a place to live. Sienna agrees to let him stay and the two continue their relationship, slowly until one day when Sienna gives into all she wants, and what she wants is this convict.

This was a good quick read, for Osiris to have been a virgin he sure does learn fast. I think he and Sienna complemented each other well, but he sure did push Sienna a lot.
I would have liked an extended epilogue, further in the future i wasn't ready for it to be over.

This is for the girlies who have seen TikToks about hot prison pen pals

Big surprise, I’m obsessed with an Octavia Jensen book (full sarcasm), I will devour anything she writes. I absolutely loved the chaos that is Osiris and Sienna. Osiris and his naive crazy self, mans was obsessed and I loved it. Sienna drunkenly decides to write a chaotic email to Osiris and their relationship takes off from there. These two were so cute and fun together. If you’re worried about Osiris being a murderer, don’t worry - you’ll make an exception once you learn that there’s more to him than his crime.

I laughed, I swooned, I even teared up a little. These two were also so hot together. Sienna got to teach Osiris how to please her and I was so here for it. He was such a good little student. This was a quick, fast-paced, sexy read and I absolutely loved it. I am also eager to learn more about Cohen 👀

I was flying through this book in the beginning. The premise the banter the mystery of how are they ever going to be together??? Then it all fell apart. I put the book down probably 12 times in the last 10 chapters. I love an obsessed and possessive MMC but Osiris wasn’t it. His age and lack of real world problem resolution came through and it was enough to have me catching major ick. I would have loved his aggressiveness if he also handled communication and listening to Siennas concerns and reasons for being mad a little better. Overall not bad but definitely lost a lot for me after the first half of the book.

3.5⭐️ A short romance novel that develops after FMC Sienna drunkenly sends a flirty message to prison inmate Osiris.

This was my first prison romance and I was definitely here for it. The first ~50% was 5 stars 🔥⭐️, I loved it. I wish the first phase of their relationship went on a bit longer and was detailed more.

Without giving anything away, the last half, especially the last ~30% was cringy for me. The possessiveness was a bit much and the plot was dumb. It’s like the last third of the book fell off a cliff for me 😭😭. I wish we had more context/backstory as to why Sienna is the way she is.

I loved this book!!!! Sienna and Osiris were fascinating characters and I love their dynamic so freaking much! Okay where to start without spoilers. First thank you to Octavia for sending me an arc, as usual um very grateful and lucky to receive one. I really loved this book! Sienna was a really funny and interesting introvert, I wanted to give her a lot of hugs. and Si, oh gods Si, he might be my fav Octavia Boy yet! And if you’ve read my other reviews you’ll know how big of a deal that is! The story was so good and well done! Highly recommend!!!!

So hot!! 🔥🔥

Sienna just wanted someone to have deep, meaningful conversations with. So why not have them with a convicted felon who has a decade left in prison, right?

It was all great… until he showed up on her door step.

“Oh, do you? And what if I say no?"
"You won't," he growls, rutting himself against me. "Now you got me hard in sweatpants, baby. Love it when you tell me no and don't mean it."

this book was exactly how i expected it would be; not to be taken seriously. everything that happened in it was so far-fetched that i couldn’t help but to laugh. if you wanted a stronger plot, then you need to put the book down and find something else to read. however, if you wanted something short to pass the time then by all means!

Octavia has been and will always be a must read author!

Sienna who enjoys living alone decides to shake it up and try a prison penpal site and this is where she meets Osiris. Osiris meets every book boyfriend's description, he's possessive and obsessed with Sienna.

If you are looking for a virgin convict MMC with an older FMC, this is the book for you... you do not want to miss out on the smut!

(arc review)

Sienna is a 32 yo introvert who hates people, almost never leaves the house, has one friend and can't be bothered to date men anymore. So she is basically me, I love her, lmao.
Drunk one night, she ends up emailing Osiris, 24 yo and hotter than hell. And also a convicted murder who is currently doing time.
Their email exchange and phone calls are so funny and sexy, but soon they have the chance to talk in person and live a real relationship with all its challenges.
I really enjoy Octavia's writing, reading her books it's always like coming home. Her characters are very relatable and real, and the spice is absolutely dirty, the way we like it.

This takes having a pen pal to a whole new level! This book was original, hilarious, and downright steamy, and I absolutely loved it. Octavia Jensen has knocked it out of the park again. The characters are phenomenal, and I love the banter between the MCs, and Sienna is absolutely hilarious. Osiris is soo sweet and I love how they connect. Big plot twist had me reeling, and I looooved the ending. Amazing read!

Osiris and Sienna’s relationship is entirely unique - he’s a convicted felon serving time in jail and she’s his new prison penpal.

And when he gets unexpectedly released, he shows up on your doorstep expecting their relationship to begin in real life. But Sienna is caught completely off guard.

This was a fun read. Both Sienna and Osiris’s character’s made me feel for them, but at the same time I wanted to scream and shake them both.

I really love a prison romance and a penpal romance and this one had both. It was set up to be amazing, but it ended up being just okay.
I love the plot. Sienna drunkenly writes to a convict and he is intrigued and writes back. They move from email to talking on the phone. It was cute. Things just progressed so fast. Crazy crazy fast. It was very unrealistic.
Cute story, just a bit too instalove for me.

Gritty and Great

Octavia Jensen has done it again! This story is unconventional. It has some emotional and rough content, but I loved every raw moment of it.

The attraction, the push and pull, the spice, the love and devotion. ALL of it is exactly what it should be.
