It began with one smouldering look across a crowded bar.
The lonely president of the Rebel Kings MC haunted by a forbidden desire for his sergeant-at-arms. An assassin hiding in an accountant’s skin—deadly, cold, and untouched by love.
It ends with soulmates and a love worth living for.
They’re back, one last time. The beginning of The Long Goodbye.
"We ride out for family to the end."
- Cam, Saint, and Alexei (MMM) - Embry and Mateo (MM) - Rubi and River (MM) - Decoy and Folk (MM) - Locke, Nash, and Orla (MMF) - Ranger and Viktor(MM)
Hurt/comfort, found family, brotherhood, and the glorious happy ending these boys deserve.

Book of the year. Hands down, NO competition. All the stars.
I'm in awe... This was the perfect ending to this series that I never wanted to say goodbye to!
Garrett Leigh is just next level with her characters. They all feel like real people - I can easily picture every single character to the point that when I was last in North Devon I expected to be able to spot these guys roaming around! I feel so connected to these characters and their stories and they just feel like home.
The emotion in this book was perfect. I laughed, I cried, my heart ached from happiness and sadness... Everything I love to read. I was going through it with Orla - childbirth and high risk pregnancy are so close to my heart and I was holding my breath for her chapters until I could finally breathe again. Love her so much and we drink our tea the same too!
Saint Malone has my whole heart though. Easily my favourite Garrett Leigh character (sorry Dante and Luis!) and I would love to sit in companionable silence out in the wilderness with him. I also adore River and I was so fucking happy with how things went for him and Rubi - River reminds me of myself so much with his scatterbrain too!
I'm honestly so sad that these characters stories are done now, but I'm sure some will pop up in future books to give Dr Marc a break from his cameos!
I'm also dying to see what's coming for Skylar and The Men of Porth Luck series.
If you haven't read Garrett Leigh yet, what are you doing???
***** I received an ARC of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review
Forever Rebel is the ninth and final book in the Rebel Kings MC series by Garrett Leigh. I had to check and it’s been a little over two years since I read the very first book. What a wild ride it’s been. And how far they’ve all come. I was afraid I’d cry my way through this book but it turned out the opposite. I felt joy for all of these men whose lives had been so filled with violence and chaos but were now finally living the lives they deserved. Their lives were now filled with family, joy, peace, and so much love.
We get to visit each couple throughout this book. It takes us through Christmas, and several months after. We see how all of their lives have transitioned. Some are still dealing with issues from what they’ve been through but we see them all come together to make things better. They have struggled greatly and have overcome insurmountable obstacles but all have come out better people.
“I married you on this farm.” “You did.” “I’d marry you again, cielito, a hundred times.” Embry smiled, rain sliding down his cheeks. “I’d marry you every day.”
As I’ve said in maybe every review, these are tough, gritty men. But they are also men with the biggest hearts. And they love with all that they are. Every time one of them told the other that they loved them while reading this, my heart did a little flip flop. I pretty much swooned my way through the whole thing. This series is a journey you don’t want to miss. There will be a new series featuring some of the secondary characters sometime in the next few months. Men of Porth Luck. The first book will be called Just This Once. I am so excited about it but for now, I need some time to process my emotions after this because these men will always live in my heart.
I don't know how Garrett wrote this book because from about 30% in I had tears in my eyes and that pretty much continued right to the end!
There were tears of sadness, tears of joy, tears of emotions of all types as this incredible series wrapped up with a powerhouse of a book that did everything I needed it to but more, so much more.
Things happen in Forever Rebel that I hadn't even realised I need to get closure on until it happened, there is such depth to everything which goes on in this epic instalment of what has been a staggeringly brilliant series that honestly I'm not sure if my heart could have taken anything else.
We get to catch up with everyone, and I mean everyone! There are guest appearances and sneaks at what might be coming next. There are journeys ended and journeys just begun.
But most of all, there is love. Love between the powerful men who form this brotherhood of family, of people who will always be there for the other, no matter what that might entail, whatever the outcomes and even in spite of them.
My favourite pair Folk and Seth had tears streaming down my face as their story is brought to a wonderfully uplifting and heart-healing conclusion. But theirs is only one of a dozen or more paths the reader is taken down in this mammoth conclusion to the Rebel Kings series.
Honestly, there's no words really to accurately describe the rollercoaster of feelings this story will push and pull you through as Garrett unveils the what happens nexts for this group of wonderful people.
It brings sadness, happiness, hope and joy, new life and endless possibilities for the future to come, it brings the spice in so many different ways your head will spin and believe me the steam is off the charts hot!
It has so much humour, you'll be crying with laughter at the antics of Rubi in particular but also at the smart attitudes of the youngsters who now call the Rebel Kings their home.
As far as I'm concerned, these people are real, they're in a hidden part of Devon that only those in the know can ever find and they're all living their best lives wrapped in love.
Do yourselves a favour, if you haven't already picked up Devil's Dance get on it right now, you will not be disappointed. This series is in my all time Hall of Fame for any genre.
#ARC kindly received from the author via Foreword PR, I am voluntarily leaving a review
A beautiful and fulfilling ending to a very solid series. This long goodbye had so many lovely scenes, the characters all have such distinct personalities that the author remains true to throughout the entire 9 books. She makes them feel like real people. I always appreciate when we get good quality extra context that answers questions I didn’t know I had or fills in snippets from a previous storyline from another persons perspective.
I’ve read this super slowly, savouring it between other books and it’s been just so lovely.
I’m super keen to explore the Men of Porth Luck series when it comes out. It feels like it’s going to be Rebel Kings adjacent and as much as I’ve adored these guys I’m ready to move onto something new and Skylar, Oscar and Sol all sound VERY interesting.
Reading this series gave me as much joy as watching MoneyHeist (La Casa De Papel) so this gif felt fitting
Man, this series… how absolutely iconic. And the long goodbye, absolutely stunning perfection for the characters I’ve come to love. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that made me feel euphoric and melancholy at the same time. Euphoric because finally we can track and see and partake in these characters hard won HEAs and melancholy because of the drumbeat of a reminder that it is a goodbye after all. I know I know we can go back for a reread but it didn’t seem to matter, I was tearing up in any case. As usual Garrett Leigh’s poetic writing style swept me away and the way she laid out everyone’s story was sublime. Perfectly paced and intertwined and fundamentally rooted in the brotherhood of found family that has saved and given love to all these characters. Another theme was the love - love as romance, love as friendship, love as growing families, love as new bonds, loves coming back and loves moving away but everlasting love nonetheless. I don’t want to give anything away but there were a bunch of new traditions and old that I also loved seeing and everyone’s story was perfect for them.. gah I don’t know what else to say without giving things away. If you havnt started this series I seriously encourage you to, you won’t regret it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️
Cam sighed. “Why are you always so fucking right?” “Because I’ve been wrong a lot.”
“I’d marry you again, cielito, a hundred times.” Embry smiled, rain sliding down his cheeks. “I’d marry you every day.”
“I know something’s bothering you, Riv. I can feel it humming beneath your skin. But I can wait forever for you to tell me. So whatever it is, stop worrying about it on my behalf, okay? I got you, and I always will.”
Ask him. Ask him. Ask him. Soon. A promise of my own. Soon.
I just can't This book was everything, I'm so in love with them all I can read another 1000 pages about all of them doing everything and nothing I love them all Perfection This series feels like home, sacred To see them all together, in love, happy and finding their way I cried, i rejoiced with them, I laughed, I swooned
Ughh Cam, Saint and alexi phew hot like fire, sheesh Victore and Ranger ughhhh my loves Ruby and River, kill me now with River and his plans for Ruby Matts and Embry swoon Decoy and Folk oh my heart I can't Orla and the babies Nash and Locke
This series is God tier for me These people are God Tier Sacred and Family I hope we get more, like a update on the future just for no reason other than we love them all and want to see how they are all thriving
This is the absolute greatest finale to a series EVER. It was perfect. Literal perfection. Garrett knocked it out of the park. How many times can I say perfect in one review? PERFECT, I TELL YOU!!!
This book is what each of these couples needed. I'm leaving this series with a full heart. I can't wait to revisit these books in the future with MANY MANY MANY rereads.
Thank you so much for this phenomenal series, Garrett.
Forever Rebel is essentially a 500 page epilogue. And while I did enjoy it, not a whole lot actually happens because everyone is already enjoying their happy with their partner or partners. It took me forever to read. I went back and forth regarding my rating. I was originally goting to rate it 3 stars because it wasn't holding my attention like every other book in this series has. On the other hand, I love these characters and the writing was solid. I think I might just be in a weird headspace these days. So I ultimately decided to rate 3.5 and round up.
I’m so sad to see this series end. So many reviews I saw said that they cried so much during this book. I’m super disappointed that I didn’t. 😞 The Rebel Kings will remain one of my favorite series of all time and I will reread it for years to come. I imagine it was incredibly hard for Garrett Leigh to get everything put into one book to close out the series. So many couples / throuples / characters and so much closure that needed to happen. A huge part of me wishes it had been two books because I feel some things weren’t given enough page time. But maybe it would’ve dragged things out. Idk.
I did count the chapters and the characters were given a pretty equal amount of chapters, but the length of those chapters was not balanced. Again, I’m sure it was super hard for Garrett Leigh to get everything in and she really did a great job. I know I would always want more no matter how long this last book was.
This was the epilogue to rival all epilogues! 39 chapters to fill in all the leftover questions we had from each book and to give us their happy endings. These lot feel like family now, and I’m going to miss them, especially Rubi.
The ability that Garrett Leigh has in being so dedicated to each character is flawless. Even if she didn’t mention them by name, you could pretty much guess who was ‘speaking’. Their personalities are all unique, and the continuation of that in each book, without missing a single step, is, in my opinion, deserving of praise. They never waver; they are true to character throughout.
I think this book has got me all sorts of emotional! I was not crying at the baby names—I absolutely was not 🫣— I was so happy for Decoy and Folk, River and my Rubi, but I literally cried when Saint, Cam, and Alexei got their turn! The original 3. They’ve all been through so much. Then Ranger and Viktor 😭. The tears flowed, I won’t lie.
I have loved this series from the start. It is so full of adventure, chock-full of angst, and yet full of love too. It’s a journey, and all of the side characters and their stories too— it’s been an epic one. Alexei and Rubi will always be my favourites, but you will absolutely fall in love with them all. I love Orla; usually, female characters in MM books are awful! Orla is fierce, kind, and takes no prisoners. She fits in so well with her family that you won’t wish she wasn’t in it. I can’t wait for more from side characters; I’m especially looking forward to Galen.
This book was just like the others, full of humour, sarcasm, sniping, and unconventional wisdom. The fear from the past books is gone, and we’re left with how they’re all moving on with life. I loved every second.
————- I received an ARC of this from GRR, and this is my honest review.
Noooooo, I don’t want to say goodbye to this beautiful messy family. I love them all so much and feel like I bleed, sweat, and cry Rebel Kings.
“What the f*ck was it all for? Them. Forever and always. It was them.”
Everything, they are everything. I’m already craving a reread of it all from the beginning and knowing what I know now will make all those moments, big and small and in between, so much more precious because they have my heart, my soul, and are comfort that will forever live on in my heart.
Forever Rebel is the final book in Garrett Leigh’s Rebel Kings MC series, serving as an extended epilogue. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series, this one might not make much sense to you, especially since it begins by suggesting that reading the Every Missing Moment books is essential. As someone who tends to resist being told what to do, I decided to dive into this book without reading those first. I can confirm that it’s perfectly fine to read Forever Rebel without them. While I’m sure those books provide extra context, they’re not absolutely necessary to enjoy this story. I may read them later for some bonus material, but I didn’t feel like I missed anything essential.
Now, as for the book itself, I’ll be honest—I spent the first part feeling a bit uncertain. Returning to the characters was nice, but the pacing felt slower than I expected, and it didn’t hit me with the same intensity as the other books in the series. The more relaxed tone allows the reader to see the softer, more mundane moments of life after all the drama has passed. That said, there is still drama—there are definitely some hard-hitting moments—but the intensity from earlier in the series is notably absent. At times, I found the book to be a bit overly sentimental. The characters often reflect on how hard it is to be apart from their other halves, which, while sweet, began to feel a bit repetitive.
However, as the book progressed and things started to shift, I began to appreciate it more. The deeper, more emotional moments kicked in, and by the end, I found myself feeling the same tug on my heartstrings that the earlier books in the series had given me. While it doesn’t quite reach the same level of emotional impact as the core books, Forever Rebel is an enjoyable, addictive addition that will appeal to fans of the series. It functions as a lovely fan service, giving readers a chance to say a final goodbye to the characters we’ve grown to love.
In conclusion, Forever Rebel is a nice bonus for those who enjoyed the Rebel Kings MC series. It’s not as intense as the previous books, but it still wraps up the story in a satisfying way. I’m excited to read more from Garrett Leigh, especially since side characters will be getting their own stories in the future.
The final book in the Rebel Kings series, and honestly - regrettably - I think it kind of summed up why the series stopped working for me. Too many characters, barely any plot and a turn away from the fascinatingly dark tone of the first four books to something a bit too found family fluffy for me. Very 2012-2013 Avengers tower fic coded for me, which is great if you love that kind of thing but not really enjoyable if you don’t.
Forever Rebel: the Long Goodbye is the final epilogue novel for the Rebel Kings MC series, therefore must be read in order. Forever Rebel has POVs of all the couple/ triads: Cam, Saint, Alexei; Rubi, River; Embry, Mateo; Folk, Decoy; Nash, Locke, Orla; Viktor, Ranger.
I can’t believe this is the last chapter in the Rebel Kings stories, I’m almost in tears. This guys have such a special place in my heart and already made me smile within the first few pages. It was everything I didn’t know I needed—heartbreaking at times, inspiring at others—but always, always beautiful.
In this final book we see our beloved characters continue their own, unique journey. I loved that each relationship had their own storyline. The amount of love - true, deep love - both romantic and familial, took my breath away and felt almost healing. It made me so happy to see these characters get their well-deserved HEA. Even though I am sad to say goodbye to them.
Locke is still my favourite and always will be! How others went to him for advice or comfort warmed my heart. So many epic love stories intertwined together, makes this one for the ages, filled with the perfect amount of heartwarming moments, heartache, romance, and between the sheets action.
I do have to say I’m not sure if this book gave me closure on every single question I had, but it did reassure me and make me believe the characters HEA.
Overall, this book was the perfect goodbye to a series that has kept me company through too many of life's bumps to mention and will forever hold a dear part of my heart. Honestly I’m not sure what else to say, if you’ve read this series then you need to read this and if you haven’t, then I would definitely recommend giving this series a go!
This book contains sensitive material such as violence, recreational drug use, past sexual trauma/abuse, historical and implied self-harm and suicidal ideation, serious illness, domestic violence, war, murder, death of a parent, addiction, risky pregnancy and emergency childbirth.
🏍️ MC Romance ❤️🩹 Hurt/ comfort 🥰 Brotherhood/ found family
*sigh* What is there to say? This was the best end to a series that has somehow woven itself into my heart so seamlessly. There is just so much LOVE that’s barely contained within these books. Love between couples, between family both related and created, love that was literally fought for with blood, sweat, and tears creating a tangible, indestructible bond.
And Forever Rebel is that final piece I didn’t know I needed, but had so much hope for. It gives us the moments after the weapons have been dropped and the dust has settled. Those moments where each MC gets to finally soak in all the happy they’ve created in their world without the trauma. It’s certainly not easy for them and each one processes this differently, but it’s such a beautiful thing to go thru with each of them.
Because Garrett writes in such a way, you truly feel like you’re living this alongside each of them. Hence the many many smiles, laughs and fucking tears. It was so deeply emotional and gratifying to know they’ve all made it to their true happily ever after … because they will fight to keep it, forever.
What a great end to the Rebel Kings series! I love these characters so much and I am so glad we got to see their happy endings.
I LOVED that we got more from everyone’s POV. My heart is still recovering that this is the end for the MC, but so glad we will get stories of other beloved characters.
If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend! You must read all other books in the series before reading this, but trust me it is worth it🖤
I'm so sad to see this series end but this was the perfect ending. I loved seeing every single couple and their happily ever afters. Absolute perfection.
that book made me happy. I didn't want it to end. But we leave them in a good and happy place. And I can still imagine they're are really out there somewhere living their fucking best life.
3,5 stars. Unfortunately I struggled a bit with this one. I feel so bad about that because I LOVED the rest of the series! Yes, it was a perfect ending for all the couples. It was a sweet goodbye from everyone. And although I loved that, I missed a bit of the action we’re used to from previous books. I get that’s because the focus was on the couples themselves and to wrap up this series. But what was really difficult for me were the many POV-switches. Yes, I understand why it was done that way, but still. I couldn’t really get emotionally invested because almost every time I got into it, bam, different POV, different couple. But that is totally a me-problem. I still loved to see all of our sweet men happily in love, building families and settling down.
The Rebel Kings series has been one of my favourite series of the last few years, at this point I feel like I know these guys because I've spent so long with them. They each have their individual stories, but they all feature in this, which is a superb finale and send off for our favourite biker boys.
They're all here, and each gets a chance to shine and complete their story and I am HERE for it all. This is likely going to be my shortest review ever because I nothing much more to say than it's all wonderful. It's a love letter to the Kings (and perhaps to the fans who've followed their stories) and it made me laugh, cry, celebrate, commiserate and ultimately be uplifted by that glorious ending.
I loved it and have nothing more than that to say.
4.5 stars This book was amazing, I'll be forever grateful to Garrett Leigh for writing it. It was unexpectedly romantic and I adored that there weren't any dramas coming from rivals gangs or criminals, but it was just full of love for every character in this series. All couples and triads dynamics are changing now that the dangers are gone, and they're trying to adjust and live more peaceful lives. I'll try to write my review without leaving spoilers. Random thoughts:
Embry and Mateo: the enforcer has always been the Rebel I found more difficult to connect with, but in this story I truly appreciated his development, how he had the chance to reflect about his relationship with Embry and their unusual family of five. I loved how he finally let go and asked Embry for what he needed. And seeing Embry finally getting healthy and strong again was beautiful!
Victor and Ranger: they made me cry but I think they did the right thing for them and their family. Ranger and Rubi's friendship was hilarious, those two were a menace together. I also loved Victor's meeting with Jakov.
Rubi and River: they're still a grumpy/sunshine kind of couple but their love is stronger than ever. I did not expect for River to concoct such a plan, he made me hold my breath until he made his move. I also liked very much that we know more about his friendship with Axel.
Nash and Locke: how Locke always knew what Nash needed and how he took care of him was beautiful and emotional.
Folk, Locke and Ranger: my heart broke in a million pieces for Folk and his depression. I have no words for what Saint did to him and the former Crows, he kind of gave them back Rocco and I cried all my tears for them.
Folk and Decoy: I adore them, they will always be one of my favourite couples ever.
Cam, Alexei and Saint: their relationship has always been complicated because of all the drama surrounding them and Cam's role as President. But this time there's only love and romance between them and Garrett Leigh delivered beautifully. There were two particular scenes I adored, they were romantic, sensual, emotional, they made me love them even more. The first one, on Christmas night: "No pain, Lexi. Nothing this good is supposed to hurt." The second, after a night of celebrations: "Am I fucking awake right now?" "Say yes, biker boy, and we will find out."
What prevented me from giving five full stars: I know mine is an unpopular opinion, but I still feel like Orla and Locke were just friends with benefits, while the true soulmates were Locke and Nash. The two men's interactions are always full of highly emotional moments, while the relationship between Orla and Locke appears more lacking in strong feelings. I'm really happy she became a mother, but her pregnancy with Nash's offspring was another thing she didn't have in common with Locke. There were several layers of their relationship that didn't tie them all together like it happened in Cam, Saint and Alexei's relationship.
Moreover, I always admired Orla for being a Queen, a fiercely strong and independent woman but there were a couple of moments in this book when she was awful: first throwing a fit about Willow dating and accusing River to act like a god (while she was always the one who could never do anything wrong) and then suggesting to Mateo that Embry should have hoocked up with Juana to satisfy her needs (that was a very very WTF moment). I'll always believed Orla should have embraced her bisexual side, be with Juana and ruled with her over the Rebel King MC.
I'm going to see if the special edition paperback is already available. I'm so very sad this series ended, but Garrett Leigh gave me the wonderful end I was hoping for.
I received an ARC of this book from Foreword PR and this is my honest review.
Forever Rebel is the ninth and final book in Garret Leigh's Rebel Kings MC series. This cannot be read in a standalone. In order to read Forever Rebel you'll want to read the first eight books, as well as both volumes of outtakes. Here's what you can expect from this book:
🖤 MM/MMM/MMF dark romance 🖤 Multiple first person points of view 🖤 Guaranteed happily ever for all featured relationships 🖤 Open door spice 🖤 Hurt/comfort 🖤 Found family
Ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings may be incomplete. Please take care of yourself while reading.
Phew. Okay. Here we go 😭 if I could give this book and this series a million stars, I absolutely would. What a wild and amazing journey Garrett's Rebel Kings MC series has taken us on. Forever Rebel was the most beautiful and perfect way she could've ended it. At approximately 500 pages, I was impressed with everything she managed to pack into this story. We get chapters told from all 14 characters' perspectives, and all their storylines are wrapped up in a satisfactory way. I was definitely crying at multiple points during this book, mostly from happiness (as well as the sadness of knowing it's over). These characters have been through so much, and they deserve to live their lives in peace and happiness. I know it's not the last we'll see all of them and I'm really hoping they'll make cameos in Garrett's new series, but this was the perfect way to send them off.
Without giving too much away, this book had everything. From a haulage ride that tested relationships, more medical emergencies (seriously, this family needs to stay away from the hospital), miracle babies, healing, marriage, and some characters moving on...I simply couldn't put this down. This series is so beautiful, and I'll never ever stop recommending it. The found family is amazing, and the relationships are so healing. I love that each relationship is slightly different, and Garrett shows us that there's more than one way to love someone. Although this book does focus on catching up on each character's romantic relationships, it furthers their relationships as friends and a found family and the emphasis is just as important. As in true Garrett Leigh fashion, this book has plenty of angst and hurt/comfort, but don't worry, there were also lots of laughs and moments of lightness for the characters.
If you haven't started this series yet, what are you waiting for!? Forever Rebel was the most perfect series epilogue and long goodbye that I could've asked for. Thank you Garrett. These books have brought readers like myself and so many others so much joy. I look forward to going back and reliving the series on audiobook!
I started this series over 2 years ago and prior to writing this review I read through my review for the 1st book in the series Devil's Dance. It reminded me that I almost didn't read this series. I had never heard of it, I didn't know the author, I wasn't that excited about it, I even left the KU version on my Kindle for weeks before I finally picked it up. What a shame it would've been if I never started this series.
If anyone has followed any of my reviews for the other books in this series then it'll come to no surprise to you that I adored this book. It was.. everything I wanted it to be. The literal perfect wrap up to a series and I almost wish authors did this more. Though, I don't know that anyone could pull this off the way Garrett Leigh has and that's not a knock on other authors as much as it's high, high praise for Garrett Leigh. This world that she's created here, this family that she's created here, is so special. All of our characters are so COMPLICATED and so beautifully imperfect and Garrett doesn't shy away from that. The way that she juggled so many characters and still kept them true to themselves was amazing. The writing, particularly in this installment, was beautiful. Everything about this series felt so familiar and unique at the same time.
Forever Rebel gave us conclusions to storylines that I didn't even realize I needed a conclusion to, but Garrett Leigh gave it to us anyway. Bless her heart. Reading this one felt like an ending and a beginning at the same time.
It goes without saying that I highly recommend this series. Also yes, I did cry at the end. Some notes for future readers: These books are not standalones. I don't know if they've ever been marketed that way, but I want to be clear that they are not. You need to start from the beginning and read all the way through or you will definitely be lost. While most books (outside of this one) are focused on a main couple/throuple, all of the books build on all of the characters here. And not just our 14 "main" characters.. There are a lot of extra characters that are built up throughout this series too. And while most of the books have a plot that ends on the final page, all of the plots also build on each other. It's a goddamn masterpiece of writing. I can't imagine the notes Garrett Leigh must keep on this series.
So.. I am big, big sad to be done with this series. I feel like if I ever make it to North Devon I will fully see these characters there. They felt so real to me and I think that's just so special. I've read a lot of really great books, but I've never read a series like this one. It'll definitely be one that sticks with me forever.
Did I have to convince myself that all would be right in the world if I started this book, knowing it was the last book in one of of my favourite book series? YES.
Did it deliver all that I needed and all that I didn't know I needed from these characters that I am convinced are real? YES. YES. YES.
If you are like me and love books that wrap things up with a bow then Forever Rebel is for you. It's basically a 500 page epilogue to the fabulous Rebel Kings MC series and I gobbled it up with a big spoon.
The first half of book focusses on the impact of a long haulage run on each of the couples/throuples. There was maybe a little too much professing of "I miss you" and "I love you", with a few dramas thrown. But I was happy to over look that as the story centred a lot on Folk (my absolute favourite character) and things he needed to deal with from events in previous books. Aaaaaand Poet Whitlock. We finally got a little more than a glimpse of Folk's mysterious younger brother. Fingers crossed Garrett Leigh weaves him into future books.
We also got plenty of chapters from Cam's POV. I forgot how much the storyline strengthens when he is front and centre of all the happenings. How he is the connecting piece between all the members of this found family. I loved hearing his thoughts again, his fierce love for his family, vulnerabilities et al. And chef's kiss to the book cover, which gave a face to this character that is the foundation of this fabulous series.
The second half of the book brought home many of the things that were hinted at in previous books. This was done so well with the hurt / comfort scenes that Garrett Leigh writes like noone else. If you are as invested in the Garrett Leigh universe as me then you'll be stoked with the cameos from all the GL faves ... Marc, Joe, Lena, Sacha, Jakov, Logan, Remy, Tam, Finch, Jekka, Poet, Galen, Oscar, Skylar, Jevon, Iggy, Shay, Fin McGovern, Danny Jones ... did I mention Skylar ... god I love Skylar.
Something that resonated with me was the description of each character's scent at specific moments in the story, which added a third ... fourth (🤷🏻♀️) dimension to the book. Made it feel like each character was sitting beside me while I escaped into their thoughts. Loved it.
Anyway, I could fangirl about this series forever. This was a perfect end to the best biker series by one of my favourite authors.
Look out for the chapters that list birthdays, nicknames, scents, colours, tea preference etc. This is why I'm left feeling like these characters are real. 💙
If you haven't read this series then you need to start. The Rebel Kings MC series will be a continue reread for me.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.
Forever Rebel is the final book in Garrett Leigh’s Rebel Kings MC series, working as an extended epilogue. Thus, if you have not read the prior books, you will not understand this story. (On that note, the book starts by saying it is necessary to read the two Every Missing Moment books. I am a contrary person who hates being told what to do, so I obviously went into this one without reading those. I can confirm it is perfectly fine to read this without those moments. I will probably read them at some point for bonus information, but it is not the essential reading that the start of this book suggested.) If you have read the prior books, then this will be (as the book is referred to as) a long goodbye to the characters.
I will be entirely honest and say that I did spend the start of this book a bit uncertain. While it was nice to return to the characters and get to see more of them, it was not hitting as hard as the other books in the series. This is largely due to the softer pace of the story, allowing the reader to see the less dramatic moments of what comes next. That is not to say it is without drama – there are certainly hard-hitting moments – but the intensity of the prior books is gone. In fact, a part of me felt like this book was overly sappy. There were lots of moments where characters were realising how hard it was to be away from their other half, and it did feel a bit repetitive. Sweet, but a bit too much of the same for me. It was only when things started to mix up a bit more later in the book, when the harder hitting emotions hit, that I finally came to love this almost as much as the prior books in the series. While this does not reach the same level as the main books in the series, this is a highly addictive addition that works well as fan service. By the end, the emotions have hit hard, and the reader is left in their feels. If you enjoyed the prior books, then this is certainly an addition to round out your reading of the series.
All in all, this was a nice bonus for fans of the Rebel Kings MC series. I will certainly be reading more of the author’s work, especially as side characters will be getting their stories in the future.
