The Crave
Ever since The Crave hit humanity, Eve's life changed. Her priorities are different, gone are the times where her biggest problem was fitting in at school.
That all pales in comparison when you have zombies trying to eat you, her priorities are:
1. Staying alive
2. Finding her sister
Until one day, she forgets why she's fought to stay alive for so long and decides that it isn't worth it anymore, that giving up would be the easiest thing to do.
Enter Gage
He hasn't seen another human being in years, and when he sees Eve he won't allow her to end her life.
Imagine their surprise when they see each other again. For Eve he's the boy who broke her heart and for Gage she's the girl he never forgot.
I really enjoyed Alive, it's an angsty love story that takes place against a post apocalyptic backdrop. The book doesn't just focus on the zombie aspect but rather Gage and Eve's struggle to finally let go and love each other with the added challenge of trying to survive in a world filled with the living dead.
Th book appealed to be because it's obviously New Adult and I do love NA. The story is original, bold and fresh and I actually enjoyed how the author didn't shy away from certain issues.
As someone who normal avoid angst I would say that this book had quite a big dose of it! I think that was my only problem, I normally don't handle angst very well LOL!
And finally I was quite surprised by the ending and how my feelings had changed towards a certain character All in all Alive is a engaging read, and I would highly recommend it to someone looking for a light dystopian romance!

Wow….this is a book I wouldn’t and I couldn’t put down. Last night I was about 70% into it as I watched the snow falling out my window. I thought to myself and prayed “Please please let the snow be so bad that I don’t have to go to work tomorrow.” I wished and crossed my fingers and toes….and settled down in my bed to go sleep……WAIT…..hold the phone…..Fuck NO…..I didn’t sleep – I turned my phone right back on and finished this fucker! Yeah, I mighta stayed up till 1:00am just to find out what happens with Eve and Gage….but hell yeah….I DIDN’T have to go to work today!
This book grabbed me from the minute I picked it up. I travelled right alongside of Eve and Gage from the moment they realized who each other were till the minute they got to Eden. I grew frustrated at Gage when Eve would recant her past and the torment she went through ---- I sympathized with Gage and the patience he tried to have with Eve when she continually tried to gut him….Yeah I mean that literally!
My heart broke for Eve and the past she had to deal with and there were a few times I wanted to take her Craftsman and stab Gage right in the “YA-HOO” ---- poor Eve who suffered at the hands of her parents, her sister, her classmates and the boy she loved. I cheered for the strength this girl grown into and cried for the lost innocent soul it destroyed.
I think maybe the best aspect of this story is the message hidden behind the words (yeah I know…how do you get a life message from a book about zombies?) Listen well, my little grasshopper…..Eve growing up was the “sinful one” while Olive was the cherished and perfect child….but after the Crave….you get to see who they really are compared to how they were raised. Want to know why? Nope….sorry – you have to read to find out.

We open the story with Eve surrounded by “jenks” and she is about to give up and just let them have her. She is tired of searching for her sister, Olive and tired of running from the zombies. Just as she is about to be served for dinner…a stranger comes to her rescue – she might have been grateful if the “so called” stranger wasn’t a blast from her past…and not in a good way.
Gage realizes that Eve isn’t the innocent shy schoolgirl that she used to be and Eve just wants to carve Gage up. Makes great conversation during their travels and you honestly don’t think they are going to kiss and make up during this story? N to the O to the NO!!
Eve promises to Gage that she will stick by him until they reach Eden (a safe place for the non-infected to live. There are just too many jenk battles, too many hot sexy scenes, too many hurtful words shared in order to share everything with you while the two of them make their way to Eden.
We also get a few chapters dedicated for Olive and the adventure she is on with a man who uses his women as sex toys and mules in exchange for protection against the jenks!
Wrap Up
This book was surprisingly entertaining and I was able to relate to the characters and was wishing I could be fighting right alongside them!
Definitely take the time out to read this book even if you don’t like Dystopian books…this is more of a romance mixed with a few zombies…

I don't like Zombies. They scare me and are freaking disgusting.
So when Megan asked me to read her zombie romance novel, I told her, "maybe, but I may not have time" which really meant "I'm going to read a few chapters of your book and if I don't like it I'm going to say that OMG! I'm SO BUSY!"
So I started the first page. . .
"Here it is. The end of her life. Eve always knew it would come, and that it would be exactly like this. With a swarm of dead flesh and tangling limbs."
And that my friends was how I ended up reading this book, telling her I loved it, and asking her to join me on tour.
Those four sentences trapped me.
What kept me was. . .
GAGE
Let's make this clear, people! I'm not one of those Romance Genre Fan Girls that get all drooly over a hot hero!
I like Gage for his mind!
. . .and that's all I'm going to say about that!
Additionally, I love this novel for it's. . .
OH GOD WHO AM I KIDDING?
This novel kept me on the edge of my seat with worry that Eve and Gage wouldn't die, but good lord. . .THIS BOOK WAS HOT!
His lips pressed hard against hers, hot and demanding.
She stumbled backward. His lips never broke contact. He followed her bumbling form back and down as she landed in a heap on the muddy ground. His tongue thrust into her mouth, probing her.
She didn’t hesitate in kissing him back. This was what she had wanted, him against her, his mouth on hers.
And that my friends is why my kids ate pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner one weekend.

“Out there, it was a survival of the fittest. And she was going to survive.”
The good: Had everything I like in post apocalyptic tales: zombies, romance, realism, and steam!
My thoughts: “Alive” was a really enjoyable read. I was introduced to it by Megan’s beta reader and fellow author, Kenya Wright, after I had been invited to take part in both authors’ releases on November 22nd. I’m so glad Kenya did message me the invite or else I would have totally missed the chance on this awesome book!
“Alive” to me kind of reminded of me of one of my favorite television shows, The Walking Dead, but a sexier, grittier, and “younger” feel.
I loved the post apocalyptic world that Megan sets up of survival and even sex. Yes, sex guys. I don’t know what it was about the Walking Dead that didn’t include sex as one of the natural aspects which comes into light during times of these. I get that you have to always be on your toes but sex is definitely a heightened factor in dystopian tales since it is a rational reaction of what happens as a way to retain a part of humanity.
My verdict: I highly recommend!
I enjoyed everything from the plot, the storyline, and the perspectives and backgrounds of the different characters. It’s so real and although I got frustrated at times with the characters, it totally was reasonable and pragmatic. There were of course, sad parts and times of mourning in the story since what more can you expect in zombie. BUT, the ending was quite the ringer!! I mean, what a cliffhanger!! Not cool, Megan, not cool! LOL. Nah, just kidding. But I already want more! So all and all, awesome debut for me in regards to my first Megan D. Martin read!! Can’t wait for more!!

I have to say, I'm super glad my chance virtual meeting with Megan happened because not only is she fan-freaking-tastic, this girl has some major writing skills. I knew from the blurb that I wanted to read this one because, hello?? Zombies, Post-apocalyptic world, gritty. Totally my kind of thing. This story is about more than just zombies, it's about overcoming the obstacles of a ravaged, broken world, dealing with your past and trying to make it to the future.
I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic worlds -- especially when it comes to zombies! Walking Dead junkie right here. Megan does a fabulous job of setting up the world of zombies but adding in fresh, unique twists. It's all in the little details that make "The Crave" seem so realistic. And the characters! While all the major characters made me SO angry at certain points, I have to say, I felt like Megan really created depth to her characters. Main character, Eve, has not had a good life in the before but life is especially hard on her own with the world of zombies. Until she meets Gage -- the only guy to break her heart. Confronted with her past and her lingering feelings, they struggle to make it to Eden unscathed from the zombie -- and each other. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship progress, especially with the before sections that give insight to their earlier relationship. And Eve's sister, Olive. I've never wanted to "cut a bitch" as much as I wanted to with her character. She made me SO MAD. I think that was Megan's goal -- so kudos.
One would think that a zombie filled world, where survival is at the forefront of everyone's mind, that sex wouldn't be a priority. (Walking Dead proved that incorrect). Who knew zombies gets people so hot and bothered? The sex scenes in this book are HOT. HOT. HOT. Which is something I never thought I'd say about a zombie book! Megan has some sex writing skills, I'll tell you that much.
This was one of those novels that just had me turning the pages incessantly. I wanted to know what came next so much that I couldn't book this book down.
The only thing I wish I could have seen more of was Olive's voice earlier in the story. She's actually getting her own book, which is great because I want to know how she became such a bitch but if I'd just had a *little* bit more of her in the beginning, I might have understood her more.
If you LOVE zombies and you LOVE steamy sex scenes -- this is the book for you!

3.5 Stars!
The first part of the series of a interracial paranormal romance during a Zombie apocalypse....
Eve is fighting to survive against the flesh eating zombies while searching for her sister Olive. Then she runs into Gabe.
Gabe couldn't believe Eve was still alive. And he is not about to lose her now that he found her. But Eve has not forgotten how much Gabe had broken his promise and how he had hurt her.
Gabe!
Eve!
Gabe is hot! He definitely was an ass to Eve in the past... but they were young and he was stupid and he admits that. Now they are on the run and need each other to survive, but no, Eve certainly didn't make it easy for him. I wanna knock her head at one point but she does have her reasons. Eve, though brave, she is also just too stubborn and reckless, still troubled by her past.
Then there's Olive, she is the selfish sister... I was wondering what her role in this series is and to the end, I still wonder.
The story is told under Eve, Gabe and Olive's (Eve's sister) POV's. It flashes back to their life before the apocalypse and present. While on the run for survival, there is sexual tension between Eve and Gabe, and the feelings that Eve denies! And it does put you on the edge of your seat. Will definitely read the next book of the series.

I am so happy to be finally writing my review of this book :D Megan sent me a beta copy ages ago, before it was edited or sent to the publisher. I felt extremely privileged to be reading it before any one else got the chance!!
I was pulled into the book immediately. I remember feeling as though I didn't want to put it down, EVER! All of Megan's books have had me hooked from the get go, and this one was certainly no exception! I really felt like I knew the characters, and had a real need for survival for them, especially the main characters Gage and Eve. Megan's descriptions of the world around them was great, and it is exactly the way I would picture things to be if a Zombie Apocalypse came about (or when... we all know it's coming right?! ;p)
I don't want to blabber on too much as to give anything away, but please please get your hands on this book when it comes out in January 2014!!!

I was surfing FB and noticed some ad or something for this zombie book. Well I luuuurves me a good zombie book so I went to Amazon and read the blurb. Hot damn! Loved it so I one clicked it. Then I friended the author anad saw her book trailer and was even more excited to read this. Anywho, I took a day off from work adn literally read this entire book from beginning to end on that day. I couldn't put it down. It has angst, tension, drama, SQUEEEEE Moments, and just so many "OMG" moments.
I loved the way the story unfolds . Eve is pretty much tired. Tired of running. Tired of fighting. Tired of looking for her sister so she thinks "maybe death is ok". Then she is rescued by a man who turns out to be GABE....the one who tore her heart into a millions pieces 4 years ago right before the Crave hit and took the world away. Needless to say they are both stunned to see the other. Eve is pretty pissed at what he did to her...but we the reader don't know until the flashbacks hit in the novel. Man are they times PERFECT for the story. Each flashback gives you JUST enough to tease you until the final flashback is told and you know exactly what Gabe does to Eve. Man, i wanted to punch him in the nut sac and understood Eve's anger and hurt by him. ANY WAY, Eve and Gabe make an agreement to work together to find her sister. FYI I have no clue why bcause Eve's sister is a megga BEEEOTCH of epic proportions. YES sister Olive is alive and we see glimpse into her life and WOW!!!! Yeah I totally hate her and was PMing the author saying "please tell me she gets eaten???" LOL
Well Eve and Gabe go through a lot from her stealing from him (AWKWARD moment), fighting the zombies, meeting/losing/getting jealous over attractions to new friends and fighting/running for the Lurkers. My favorite part of the book when the final time Gabe tries to make it work with Eve. When he bares he heart and soul out for her. Man, I have to say he screwed up but he really mans up. I have a little girlie crush on Gabe. Gabe was a stupid kid and did bad stuff but we are all kids. Eve can't seem to let the hurt go and it made me yell at her a time or two but the ending is awesome. Their date....wow.....I was tearing up.
I cannot wait for book 2 but I fear that something Eve does in book 1 caused trouble for Olive and she will have major major major guilt. Wanna know? read the book people!!!!

I was surfing FB and noticed some ad or something for this zombie book. Well I luuuurves me a good zombie book so I went to Amazon and read the blurb. Hot damn! Loved it so I one clicked it. Then I friended the author anad saw her book trailer and was even more excited to read this. Anywho, I took a day off from work adn literally read this entire book from beginning to end on that day. I couldn't put it down. It has angst, tension, drama, SQUEEEEE Moments, and just so many "OMG" moments.
I loved the way the story unfolds . Eve is pretty much tired. Tired of running. Tired of fighting. Tired of looking for her sister so she thinks "maybe death is ok". Then she is rescued by a man who turns out to be GABE....the one who tore her heart into a millions pieces 4 years ago right before the Crave hit and took the world away. Needless to say they are both stunned to see the other. Eve is pretty pissed at what he did to her...but we the reader don't know until the flashbacks hit in the novel. Man are they times PERFECT for the story. Each flashback gives you JUST enough to tease you until the final flashback is told and you know exactly what Gabe does to Eve. Man, i wanted to punch him in the nut sac and understood Eve's anger and hurt by him. ANY WAY, Eve and Gabe make an agreement to work together to find her sister. FYI I have no clue why bcause Eve's sister is a megga BEEEOTCH of epic proportions. YES sister Olive is alive and we see glimpse into her life and WOW!!!! Yeah I totally hate her and was PMing the author saying "please tell me she gets eaten???" LOL
Well Eve and Gabe go through a lot from her stealing from him (AWKWARD moment), fighting the zombies, meeting/losing/getting jealous over attractions to new friends and fighting/running for the Lurkers. Umm... Wow? I'm still not completely sure how I am going to word this review so I hope it comes out good.
This book was awesome. It is New Adult + Zombies. It is a younger, sexier version of The Walking Dead.
Eve is an amazing character both in the before and now. She chose her own path in life regardless of how her horrible parents raised her. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about her sister, Olive.
Eve is extremely brave and she doesn't want anyone thinking they can boss her around. She makes it through so many hardships on her own that its hard to believe she came out of everything without being more damaged. She has a lot of trust issues but those are definitely expected and not without warrant.
Gage is.... my feelings towards Gage range from awe to rage. He has so much anger and he has no real reason for it. He hurt Eve and he acts like she has no reason to hate him.
I highly dislike Olive. She is weak both in mind and physically. She lets a man have his way with her whenever he wants and she enjoys it. Eve has killed for less.
Going back and forth between Eve/Gage, Olive and The Before was very informative.
Once Eve and Gage got to Eden I felt like something bad would happen and it did. I was sooo hoping that Sally had been one of the first to become a Jenk/Gurgh.
I am so glad that the book ended the way it did. Eve needed to forgive Gage and just move on.
The author definitely has a way of keeping her readers wanting more. I read most of the book, 80%, in about 3 hours. I just kept going to the next page and by the time I was done I realized I had finished the entire book and found myself wishing I had the second book.
I am not big on New Adult or anything that goes outside of the YA genre but this book has be wondering if I should explore more.
I highly recommend this book to the lovers of zombies and have a weak spot for a good love story where the girl who was wronged gets what she wants in the end.
Overall, I gave the book 4.5/5 stars.

First let me say that I normally don't read New Adult. Because I don't read NA I tend to ignore all books in that genre but thanks to Kenya Wright (Goodreads Author) and her recommendation, I picked up this gem.
I'm always on the look out for a good zombie book. Now if you give me a good zombie book with a little sexy (not sexy with a zombie, that's just gross) then I'm a happy girl. This book had the right amount of zombie action and sexy action.
This books takes place in Texas 4 years after The Crave (beginning of zombie hell) and things are not going so well for our main characters. Eve, a young 20 year old, is on her own after losing her sister. Being on her own and dealing with zombies is just another awful thing that Eve has to deal with in her short life. But things may be looking a little better for her when she randomly runs into her long lost love, Gage. Gage, who is 22 years old (I think), is a self-assured man. He was the homecoming king, who could do no wrong. He's one of those guys that you want around when zombies attack. He's smart, loyal, AND he makes his own arrows!
Now both characters are not perfect. Eve is a bit crazy with her need for certain things and Gage is a little happy to give orders. Both have a bit of teenage angst that can get a bit boring in some parts but didn't stop me for enjoying this book.
My two wishes for this book is to know more about what Gage and Eve did before reconnecting and maybe not so much love angst.

I may not be that big of a zombie fan, but I did love this book! I love Megan, she’s an awesome and talented writer and this book is just more proof of that.
Eve lives alone in the world after the Crave and she fights to survive. While looking for her sister, she runs in to Gage, the boy who won her heart and broke it. But it’s been four years and he’s not a boy anymore. Eve agrees to stay with him when he divulges information on a safe haven close to the town they grew up in, but that doesn’t mean she likes it.
Megan did a great job in this book! The world-building is very good and she even managed to make it realistic too so it wasn’t hard to get sucked into the book. And I know it’s pretty hard to pull off a dystopian zombie book, but she did it. I’ll admit that I was a bit worried about the sex, but in the end I should’ve known that there’s no need to worry about such things in a book Megan wrote. And yes, those scenes are very well written!
The characters are also awesome in this book! Eve hasn’t had a good life so far and living on her own in a world full of zombies hasn’t made it any easier. And then she sees Gage again. She’s confronted with her past and I loved seeing their relationship grow again. But Olive, Eve’s sister, made me so angry. She really pissed me off. But who knows, maybe there’s a reason for it.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves zombies and steamy scenes in one book! Megan is awesome, so just read it.

It's been awhile since I took on a zombie read. In the past they've been pretty miss, yet alas, with ALIVE we have a HUGE hit!
Alive offers a tender, smoking-hot and suspense-filled read based in a world when stabbing a zombie in the head to survive is the norm.
The author crafts her book with a controlled fast past, and allows us plenty of back story so that we can understand the build up to the main characters stories. This back story is interweaved through this book, and also has the occasional chapter focus on another character who will be the main focus of the next book.
The romance is mighty hot and has a lovely level of sweetness within the mix. The spice level is explicit and sexily vivid. This really helped to move the characters forward in their own personal journeys as well as the one they were making together.
If you've previously shied away from zombie books and are more of a hot romance fan, then be sure to give this one ago. Hot damn, I absorbed this book in one sitting.

I liked the concept very much and the execution skill of the author is great. The flesh eating zombies are not gory, I mean they are but the explanations don’t make you puke your guts!!! The suspense is good and the tricky relation between Eve and Gage made me interested. It’s fast-paced and written very well with the use of enriched words. Man this plot is real carp.
If your looking for another "Love & Decay" or heart pounding "Survivor Chronicles".... your totally out of luck. The plot is non existent. Honestly with as many BJs were thrown about I wondered if a man concocted this story. The dirty slang was not done well either. I'm used to heart pounding stories where you are so eager to see what happens next you can not put it down. Eve is an idiot. Abused by her parents she doesn't seem to upset by crap treatment from Gage who clearly only wants " to be buried inside her core forever". ..... It's annoying how completely screwed in the head every character in this book is. I mean this guy takes a giant crap on her (figuratively) and they have sex, it so good she magically forgets. I always see a book to the end.... As bitter as that may be.

It was ok. I think the characters needed further development. I also found the hero to be a but weak for my taste. He just wasn't alpha enough for me.

Exciting, fast paced, awesome protagonist, post apocalyptic and ZOMBIES!!
All things that excite me when reading a book. This book had all those elements plus so much more.
Prior to The Walking Dead (TV Show) I have been interested in zombies. Don't ask what it is about these disgusting flesh eating monsters that always have me interested in reading books with them in it. Hey! I also get my kicks from dystopian, paranormal, fallen angels and vampires etc. I don't discriminate if a book is well written, captures my interest, throws me into that world, has my heart rate spiked, breathing rapid and anxious its a winner. This book again has all those elements. The author does a great job right from the jump on describing this desolate world, a world where sickness has over taken people by the droves and made them into zombies.
All alone in a field surrounded by these flesh eaters we find Eve, alone knowing she is out numbered with no way to get away.
Unexpectedly someone from her past seems to appear from out of thin air and helps her out of the dire situation. 2% in and I was already assaulted with anxiety and thinking "Fight woman fight, cut those damn dead monsters heads off!"
Gage a face from Eve's past, the guy who broke her heart. Say Whaaa?? Oh I need to know more! Believe me I got what I asked for and then some. The author did a great job taking me back into these two characters pasts and answering all those important questions. You know the who? What? Where? How? and Why's!
I liked that the author toggles between the now and the before. I got to see in both these characters heads, and felt that I got a good grasp on both personalities. Eve is a strong woman, she was not popular prior to the sickness. She was the weird girl and was made fun of. She wanted to belong and even at home she was put down. It made me feel bad for her, but once the sickness set in she turns bad ass! She learns to survive and does what she needs to do to do that. She has a sister whom we do meet and to be honest is such a bitch. Olive ran away from Eve, and she is now with some pretty interesting people.
I love Gage and as I read more about him I felt bad for both him and Eve. Oh man the sexual tension builds and I loved the way a certain scene was written! I was like yeah EVE

Gage is a great character sexy, yummy, strong, level headed and protector. I found out so much about him from the before and made me love him in the now! This is not an easy world to live in. These characters go through so much and are never even guaranteed happiness or shit even stability but they do what they must.
I enjoyed this book tremendously. It has everything I look for. Bad ass protagonist, a crazy ass world, a guy who is HAWT and amazing. Oh and sex! Yup sex! I like it especially in dirty worlds where you never know when you come across another human who isn't a brute and trying to kill you to take the little that you have.

Oh, how the cover tricked me once again. This seems to be happening a lot these days. I mean, look at that gorgeous cover. Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it scream hopefulness, considering behind it there's a post-apocalyptic zombie story? A relief for being alive and hoping for a new start even in the midst of chaos? No? Then maybe it's just me, and that's cool.
What Alive really is, is a story about two stubborn people who should look over their priorities. After The Crave hit humanity, 90% of it has been wiped out. We are introduced to Eve. Before The Crave she was the odd person in town. With highly religious parents she is isolated from normal life with her peers and it lead to her being bullied. But that was before. In the after, Eve has grown to rely only on herself, and after her sister gets lost, she is forced to be alone. She decides to search for Olive, but after months of searching she is on the verge to give up, ready to give herself over to the oblivion of being a zombie. Of course, a boy comes to save her: Gage. He's not just a guy, he's the only guy Eve ever loved before The Crave hit. Until he broke her heart, that is. Together - after many fights and stubbornness - they agree to go together to find Olive at the new haven: Eden.
I will give Alive props for being New Adult and not a contemporary romance. But, at the same time, it's so painfully much everything I dislike about New Adult. There's the sex centered romance, an unhealthy possessive hero, an unfavorable view on women, and a stupid heroine. I'm actually sorry to say these things, because I had high hopes for this one. As for the plot, it's dragging on and nothing actually happens. Eve and Gage just head for Eden and bump into a few obstacles, but nothing big enough to hide the slow pacing. Most of the time they're either fighting or thinking about how handsome, hot, and good looking the other is. I'm sorry, but that gets old after about five times.
So, for the romance and our characters then. As I said, Eve loved Gage in the before, but he broke her heart. Through flashbacks this is shown (one of the bigger reasons why the plot went by so slow). Let's just say Eve is the queen on holding grudges. While it's understandable she's upset, one would think after four years of living among zombies, a high school romance wouldn't be so significant. Apart from that, there's almost no chemistry between these characters. Everything they have is appealing appearances. I really couldn't care for their relationship, which is what the book is about.
He sat completely still as she took the head of his thick cock into her mouth. Nothing could have ruined this moment. Not even the disgusting gurghs [zombies] who were desperately clawing to get at them only a few feet away.
No, the romance did not do it for me. It's only about sex and little of connection. And they are both so stubborn. Gage's stubborn trying to prove Eve means so much to him, and Eve is desperate to prove he means nothing even if she kind of thinks he does. Honestly, they should both just get over themselves and move on. Also, when Gage started accusing Eve of being another guy's little bitch because she's helping said guy with his daughter and laugh at his jokes, things went downhill. And, another wonderful snippet of Gage's thoughts on a woman he used to be together with:
She didn’t have many good qualities aside from what lie between her legs, something she was always willing to give.
Yes, he's a real catch. Then we have other quotes like this thrown around:
She welcomed the feel of him pressed against her, like the weak woman she was.
There are a few more elements to this story, but the above was too prominent for me to look past. Especially the last parts. There's a subplot about Olive and what she's going through while away from Eve. However, Olive was such a horrible character it could've been skipped. Yeah, this was obviously not for me, but if you're looking for a New Adult book - despite it's clichés - in another setting than a contemporary one, you might like this.

This was a interesting book. Not what I expected. When I thought zombies I was thinking horror but this was more freaky than horror. The story however did not focus so much on that aspect but on the story of Gage and Eve. Eve is a complex character who grew up with cult religious parents that thought she was evil. This thought was passed down to her sister Olive. When the after occurred (the illness that made people zombies), their parents died and Eve took over taking care of Olive. During a zombie fight, Olive left her and Eve has been searching for her.
In a particular zombie fight, Eve decides to give up but much to the chagrin of Gage who is in the tree he rescues her. They did not realize who each other was at first. Eve was always shy and reserved and Gage had changed as well. But when they did, Eve's shackles went up and the past was remembered. One that hurt both of them. Gage is in love with Eve ever since high school and he made a stupid mistake, one Eve has remembered and made her cold towards him. Okay the mistake was really douchebaggery but it's high school and what guy doesn't do something absolutely douchebaggery and moronic when trying to face his fears and feelings. So I can kind of forgive him especially with how he is when they are traveling to the town he created for her named Eden. Gage protects her and tries to show her he's changed. Along the way they meet up with a man and his daughter and also see glimpses into each other's pasts that defined them. The man is kind and Eve is drawn to him but not like she is to Gage. Gage is jealous and gets grumpy kind of cute but that doesn't last because there is a encounter with lurkers. This is where the heat between Gage and Eve is truly seen. Those two are so attracted to one another it's not even funny. Eve shuts down again though. Even does a stupid thing that could have cost them their life. They get close but than when they get to Eden someone else from the past pushes all the closeness away and eve shuts down and gets mean to Gage.
no matter what Gage does it doesn't matter. Eve is stuck in the past. Well Gage finally gets the courage to do something and yay. Than they decide to embark on a journey again to find Olive. Olive in the meantime has a story in this book as well and here we don't see someone in which the past has effected her but a young selfish woman who has lost her way. She begins to see things differently but it may be to late.
Gage though you will love and hate. Mainly love. He's strong and kind but also has a roughness to him. So in love with Eve who really is meant for him. Those two just need to see each other for who they are now and let the past go. I hope they can continue to do that.
A interesting, well written book that will have you seeing a whole new light to zombies and love.
In a particular zombie fight, Eve decides to give up but much to the chagrin of Gage who is in the tree he rescues her. They did not realize who each other was at first. Eve was always shy and reserved and Gage had changed as well. But when they did, Eve's shackles went up and the past was remembered. One that hurt both of them. Gage is in love with Eve ever since high school and he made a stupid mistake, one Eve has remembered and made her cold towards him. Okay the mistake was really douchebaggery but it's high school and what guy doesn't do something absolutely douchebaggery and moronic when trying to face his fears and feelings. So I can kind of forgive him especially with how he is when they are traveling to the town he created for her named Eden. Gage protects her and tries to show her he's changed. She doesn't trust him at all, but Gage can't let her get away again. So they make a deal, Gage will help her look for her missing sister, and take her Eden the safe haven in Fenton. Along the way they have to fight off Jenks, Lurkers, and their strong feelings for one another.
( This book does contain strong graphic language, violence, and descriptive sex scenes. So if any of this makes you uncomfortable then I wouldn't recommend it. But if not get your copy NOW!!)
I absolutely LOVED this book!! And I needed my zombie fix since The Walking Dead doesn't come back until February. The world that Megan D. Martin created was amazing, and she did a fantastic job with the characters. I felt like I was right along with them trying to survive. Her characters were amazing and you could really see how they grew from the before to now, and I could feel the emotions that they were going through and that made me connect to them more. She also did a great job with the Lurkers, from the description of how they looked to how they acted was spot on. I also loved the different POV's that were in the book. Usually when there are more than two POV's the plot can get confusing, but I found it very easy in Alive. I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or hide under my bed from zombies. I could not put this book down, but as I got closer to the end I didn't want it to be over and have to wait for the next installment. And that ENDING AND CLIFFHANGER!!!! The summer cannot come fast enough so I can get my hands on the second book and see how everything plays out, and I also can't wait to read more of her work!!

Eve has been on her own since she lost her sister. Now she is fighting to survive the zombies to find Olive. Just when things look the worse she comes across her first and only love, the guy who broke her heart. While she doesn't want anything to do with him she agrees to go with him to a safe place he knows about. They have to face many obstacles, challenges and try to fight temptation. Eve isn't the same girl she was growing up and neither is Gage. Their past may just keep them apart.
Eve at first seems like she has had enough. You quickly see given another chance she will do whatever to survive. She is tough, pretty and still mending a broken heart even if she denies it. She is also faithful to her sister even when you wonder why. Gage is also tough, resourceful and at times can seem like a jerk. At least to me he did. He tries to push Eve around but she doesn't back. Olive I could not stand. I didn't like one thing about her. She is selfish, hateful and spiteful and to me she gets what she deserves sometimes.
First off if your like you books on the light side this isn't for you. It is horrifying, gruesome and at times you think wth is wrong with these people. I really enjoyed this book as I love Zombie books but this one has an added touch to the zombies I won't spoil but will say people surprise me at what they will try. This book also has lots of sexual tension between Eve and Gage. It is what really pushes them and while I am surprised at some times they decide to try stuff it shows how things aren't over between them. I liked the flashbacks to before as you get to see just what went on in there past. I look forward to the next book as I am ready to get my shock on some more. If you like a dark paranormal book with sex, gore and more pick this one up.

Okay well this book had a good idea behind it at least. But then it just went downhill. Alive had your typical zombie post apocalyptic vibe, with one huge difference. It logically made no sense and there was basically no plot, or at least the plot presented failed to align with the story.
So the premise of this book, or at least what I got out of it, is that there is this popular guy who wants this girl, whose parents are religious nuts, and she's all shy and stuff and happy for his attention. Then, bingo, the apocalypse happens and they are separated. She is devastated because before the apocalypse he broke her heart because he used her.
So they meet again, and she's this kick butt girl and he just goes head over heels for her and is like "I'm so happy you're not a girl anymore" and then he wants her really bad. She doesn't even tell him no, even after what he did to her because she is dumb and annoying.
There's like a few zombie fighting scenes, but honestly the whole book is the two of them having sex and doing other weird things like that. They slowly make their way towards Eden, but the book just goes nowhere. I think this book is made for a very specified audience, but that audience is defiantly not me because I didn't get anything besides irritation and disgust from this book, mainly radiating from Eve, because she is a very weak person, despite the authors attempt to make her seem kick butt. Spoiler: SHES NOT.
This book was very bad and the blurb I read on Amazon was very misleading. This book is a waste of time unless you like essentially the equivalent of reading sex tapes. One star this was really disappointing.

I really really liked this book. A lot. And for a book about vampires, it was super vampire-y (it's a word, if not it should be). I really appreciated the story and while I didn't like Olive's character, she definitely balanced out the book for me.
I'm usually not one to like the back and forth of tenses, nor am I a fan of changing the narrator (why I haven't read Allegiant yet), but for some reason it totally worked in Alive. I can't wait to read the next one and see where the story takes Eve, Gage and even Olive.
One thing I will say is that the sex scenes were really hot and passionate, I felt like some of the vocabulary was random. She used the dreaded C-word, I'm no prude, but it didn't fit with the tone of the rest of the book, it felt like the author just decided to go there.
That's my only complaint.
Also, the cover art is beautiful.

I just didn't like Eve. Yeah she had a really good reason to be a bitch to Gage but even after finding that out I still didn't like her much.
Also, I'm not one to call an author out for grammatical errors but when they throw you off the story even the slightest, it's a problem.
Calling the zombies 'jenks' and 'gurghs' annoyed the crap out of me. Really, it's not what you call them that matters it's how they behaved. And they behaved like ZOMBIES! It was a pain in my butt to mentally replace those silly names with zombies.
The most gratifying moment in this book came with the final few paragraphs. That put a smile on my face.

o.5 stars - the one good thing about this book is the cover art. If it hadn't been for that, I wouldn't have read it - and I wish I hadn't.
I haven't read a book as poorly written as this since 50 Shades, and that's saying something. Poor grammar, missing words, duplicate words, poor sentence structure, incorrect punctuation, misuse of certain words... the list goes on. It's really distracting when there are so many errors littering the page; I could barely follow the badly constructed plot (what plot?). Add in unlikeable characters and 'Alive' doesn't have a lot going for it. Avoid!
