Mary Nelson’s murder shocked the small town of Jackson. The vibrant, young college student disappeared on her way home. A week later her body was found in the trunk of a burning car. No suspects. No evidence. No case.
Ella Reynolds’ life had finally turned around. With a new book released, the past safely tucked away, and a burgeoning romance, she begins to live again. Then a plea from a woman whose daughter’s murder remains unsolved ignites Ella’s curiosity—and drags her back into the dark world she fought so desperately to escape.
Curiosity turns to obsession as Ella inches closer to the truth—and the murderer begins to claim new victims.
Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.
When Liz isn't writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.
now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this book.
This is the second book on the continuation of Ella's story. The first book was called "Dark Corners," and was an amazing read, the book was truly creepy and kept me looking over my shoulder at any noise that was made. I read the first a couple months ago and decided that I would finish this book. Again I am not surprised by Liz Schulte writing. I have read many other of her books and have loved every single one of them.
In "Dark Passing," Ella has found herself involved again in another murder. After a year of trying to find her husband's killer and dealing with a haunted house in the process, she about lost herself completely. She had finally gotten her life back and was finally living again with the help of Detective Gabriel Troy. Now she is not so sure she will be able to pull herself out again if she gets to deep in the murder of a young girl.
Again, Liz Schutle had me jumping from one character or the other trying to pick blame and the whole time it was the one character I didn't put to much suspicion in....I had my doubts but didn't feel it would have gone that way, but boy did it ever!!
I love how the author can keep me guessing till the end of the book on what is the actual truth. She did this also with Book 1 of the Ella Reynold's Series! I had no clue till the very end who was the bad guy. Oh and talk about spooky, her books can give me the creeps sometimes on how real they feel. I am sure I will have a little issue trying to sleep tonight and not picture the beings that were within this story, lol.
I have read several other books by Liz Schulte and I can honestly say that I have not been disappointed yet. I am just hoping she writes another book about Ella because I could definitely use some more of Gabriel ;-)
You should definitely check out this series and Liz Schulte other books as well, you will not be disappointed!! :)
I got snared quickly into this clever mystery with a unique female sleuth. This book is actually the second in the Ella Reynolds’ mystery series and I have not yet read the previous book; however, there is enough of the back story provided so that I could easily understand the forces at work in Ella’s life that have shaped her into the no-nonsense, blunt, and often prickly woman that she is. Ella is a tenacious introvert with a tremendous amount of baggage. Her motives and her methods are sometimes brass. In general, I liked her oddness even though she is upon occasion not particularly likable. She has reasons for being the way she is. She is flawed but her nature makes her an especially fascinating fictional character. As she unravels the mystery she also begins to unwind slightly; beginning a personal metamorphosis that intrigued me just as much as the events under investigation. Ella is also fortunate to have a caring, patient and delectable man in her life that is supportive but also capable of dishing out some tough love when the occasion warrants. This is an exciting mystery with a quirky, offbeat quality that I enjoyed immensely.
This book is actually the second book which is the first book is Dark Corner in Ella Reynolds series. If only I could the first book first. Why? I find the book actually is as good as any other good mystery stories would be. Ella in my point of view is quite a great character. She's cool and kind of Nancy Drew wannabe. But I love her character as she is. Since I love mystery and adventure, the story is kind of predictable and I love guessing the culprit. Guess what? I kind of failed to guess this time when there's unexpected twist nearly at the end of the book when I should have know it! Now, I just have to get the first book and cant wait for her next book in the series. Yes, the book is highly recommended to all mystery and thriller readers.
Ella makes the transition in this book from one of the victims to an actual investigator, and begins to shed her victim personality. Character development is as important as plot in this one, and both are carried out skillfully. Once again there are twists and turns and massive surprises to satisfy the most demanding reader of mysteries, and this is not a cozy one, but gritty and realistic in spite of the presence of ghosts off and on during the action. Get ready to try to beat Ella to the solution but I'll bet you won't even though the clues are right there.
This is an enjoyable series. I fell in love with the characters in the first book, and was happy to see their story continue. Ella is slowly breaking down her walls and Gabriel is patiently helping her. Again like the first book, there is evil from people and helpful ghost. The who done it, is what keeps it from 5 stars, it is just to obvious due to the small number of characters. The reader knows it isn't a stranger, so the motive is what you need to uncover.
Dark Passing is the 2nd book in the Ella Reynolds series. Good job Liz Schulte . After a grieving mother knocks on her door Ella starts investigating the Mary Nelson case. As Ella digs bodies begin to pile up in Jackson. Several twist and turns for Ella and Detective Troy. A new man in the mi the temperamental Carter Fagan.
Loved it! Another spine-tingling mystery from Liz Schulte with ghosts galore. Ella’s new more stable (after the horror) personality suits her. She’s endearing, humorous, and her relationship with Gabriel has settled in my heart. It’s truly an intriguing mystery that will keep you reading until the last page.
Liz pens "Dark Passing" a paranormal horror mystery with tons of ghosts in a well written plot where the characters are lovable and a bit humorous. A real page turner that will keep you up at night. Highly recommended for everyone who loves the thrill of the paranormal.
This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. I figured out the killer fairly early but I enjoyed the journey that Ella, Carter, and Gabriel took to get to the end. And wow was the killer crazy!!! Can't wait yo see what is in store for Ella and Gabriel! And I hope yo see more of grant in the upcoming book
Ella Reynolds only knows one way to investigate... poke, shove and obsess. Ella is looking into the death of a woman, when two more are killed. Her investigative skills are clunky but in the end she gets the job done and reveals the killer. You figure out who the killer is but you don't learn why until the very end.
The author once again wrote a good who done it book. It wasn't as ghost scary as the first book but it was just as good. I changed my mind on who was the killer almost every other chapter. The truth was definitely a shock. This author is a definite recommend on anyone's reading list that enjoys ghosts, crime and mystery books
The second book in the series. Not quite as good as the first one in some ways. The character development was a little hit and miss but it was still a scary, creepy mystery that I loved watching unfold.
Thoroughly enjoyed it! Much lighter in mood than Dark Corners but that's okay. Wish there were more in this series so will be looking forward to the next installment of Ella Reynolds' adventures!
The Harry Potter reference bumped this from a 3 to a 4 star rating, especially since I figured it out. ;) Great, entertaining read!! Looking forward to the next one!
This is the 1st book I read in the series, looking forward to reading the other books. Kept my interest throughout. Had a great balance of mystery, character interactions, and eerie thrills. Enjoyed.
