Couldn't really get into it. Idea was decent but wish there was more explained. Had more information been given about what she was and what she was doing it would have made me want to look into the rest of the series.

I loved this book it was a fast read and had me on the edge of my seat I can't wait to the read the next book in the series.

I know this was a novella but it honestly didn't have enough information for that. Not even All of the information from the blurb was worked in which was disappointing.

A nice and entertaining short story.

June 10, 2014To start with, I didn't realise that this was a prequel until about a third of the way through. While it has a plot that is resolved at the end of the story, it is geared towards setting things up for the next book. I would recommend looking at this story to see whether the writing style suits you but considering reading the rest of the books first and then using this to delve more into the characters if you're interested.
Based on the writing style, the target audience for this story appears to be 10-14ish years of age.
I think it would have benefited from being a little longer so that there was more opportunity to expand on things, although that might be in part a byproduct of the age range it's going for.
I am a little concerned about how what looks like it will be the romantic interest will go - it appears to be setting up a 'they dislike one another, but is that all there is?' type situation. From the preview of the following book, the dynamic doesn't look problematic/unhealthy, but those kind of dynamics are often either handled very well or very poorly. Hopefully this is the former, but just a heads up.
I am curious about Amery's project though. I thought the initial reveal could've been more subtle so that it built to the realisation of her secret, but by the end I was curious about what the project entailed and what was going to happen in the next book. Not curious enough for me to buy it at this point - I'm super-busy and only chose to read this one because it was short and looked kind of interesting - but curious enough that I haven't ruled out checking it out in the holidays. [spoiler](I don't really think it's a spoiler, but in case) I don't see why she can't pretend that the mark is a tattoo if she is the age I think she is - 17-18 - though. I can get not wanting people to know because, hey, the less people know the better and you never know who they'll mention it to, but if you've been keeping it hidden for that long you'd have probably also created a cover story in case someone did accidentally see it sometime. [/spoiler]

IGNITE is the prequel to UNITE by Jamie Campbell
IGNITE is pretty short and, in all honesty, really did not contribute a lot to the back story of UNITE. In this little installment, we see a younger Amery and Lochie at summer camp where the duo bonds over an injury. At the end of the novel, Amery learns that dangerous people may be trying to harm her.
I suppose the point of IGNITE was really to establish a snippet of a history between Amery and Lochie, but since the little love aspect of the story was my least favorite part of UNITE, I think I would have preferred to see a little more of the back story of The Department or the initiation of Project Integrate.
But, I suppose there is plenty of time for those stories later....

This was fun short story showing a bit of the history of Amery, Lola, and Lochie. The story takes place in a summer camp - something Amery is being allowed to do for the first time. When a camper goes missing it gets pretty interesting. This was a good short story and gave a bit of background for the characters, but not much more than what we already know in the first book. In fact, I would recommend reading it after the first book so you have a little more suprises when you first meet them all.

I saw this short story in my tbr shelf and had some time to kill - so I just started reading. This did capture my interest and I may have to look into reading the next book (which I now realise is the first book of the series). It is an interesting concept and though vague at times about the whole 'alien' thing (which due the fact that I didn't know I was reading about) made the story all the more believable. Anyway, the low stars are more from the point of view that it just didn't quite have a point of reference - maybe if it had been written from Lochie's point of view - it may have been better.

2.5 stars I find it hard to review short stories but this book was o.k.
The cover is so beautiful, it screams read me .....
Amery Jones is an alien, almost nobody knows. A group off baby aliens were sent to earth to integrate and save their planet. Now Amery is on a camping trip and she 's so happy until she sees Lochie her mortal enemy. Lochie is a nice guy, I don't see why Amery has so much hate for him.
When one off the campers go missing Lochie and Amery team up to find the boy.
This is not a bad read it just didn't wauw as much as I wanted it to.

A good teaser to the universe this story is set in. There's still a bit of mystery as to what is going on with the MC, and I am interested into where this story goes.

I'm hoping this leads into a much bigger story as I just didn't get much from this book. She had a mark......ok, that's all I got. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes though

I read this before reading Book 1 (Unite). It was a quick little read and left me wanting to immediately jump into Book 1.
