Wondering why you should read Shawn's book?
Well, he's been an affiliate since 1997. He also managed affiliate programs for ten years, and co-founded the Affiliate Summit conference in 2003. He's done this stuff every day since the 90's and he knows what works.
Also, you've probably seen books, ebooks, courses, etc. that claim they can teach you how to get rich quick. He doesn't do that. You won’t get rich quick as an affiliate. You probably won’t get rich slow, either. But it’s a great way to earn an extra $50, $100, or more a month.
Shawn Collins has been an affiliate marketer since 1997 with a number of active affiliate projects, and a decade of affiliate management under his belt. He is a Co-founder of Affiliate Summit, the leading global conference and tradeshow for the affiliate marketing industry and Co-Editor-in-Chief of FeedFront Magazine.
He authored the books Affiliate Manager Boot Camp: Recruiting, Educating, and Retaining Affiliates, Extra Money Answer, and Successful Affiliate Marketing for Merchants, and was an editor and contributor to Internet Marketing from the Real Experts. Also, he co-publishes the annual AffStat affiliate marketing benchmark reports.
Shawn blogs daily on affiliate marketing at Affiliate Tip and co-hosts the weekly 7 Minutes in Affiliate Heaven podcast on GeekCast.fm. Additionally, Shawn has been quoted in numerous publications, including Entrepreneur Magazine, Internet Retailer, Inc. Magazine, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.
This book is a great resource. I'd recommend it as a guide through the process of setting up a website and then building its revenue theough affiliate marketing.
There are step by step instructions that are not so detailed as to make you want to watch grass grow, but not so vague as to make you wonder if there is a catch or trick that you missed.
Shawn lays out the steps simply and in a straight forward manner. Ay reader might easily find alternative methods from time to time as he leaves pleanty of room for research, updates, and experimentation.
Put simply, I've guided many people through some of the topics covered by Shawn, but I too still learned quite a lot from this book and I've been doing this for about seven years.
That is why I say Shawn makes a false claim when he tells experienced people to read no further. Ignore than warning and continue. You might read a thing or two you already know, but odds are you will find something very useful. I met Shawn about 4-5 years ago, so I knew right away that I was probably gong to be able to learn something new from a guy that has been working at this twice as long, if not more than I have.
Final point: I've read quite a bit by others in this industry and personally I felt like Shawn was sharing very good advice. It was trustworthy and not subject to the motivations sometimes held in reserve by 'gurus' sellng a training package or something. This was just sweet and simple and useful.
