Out of the Shadows was a little outside my usual type of story, but I actually started out enjoying it more than I expected. The cute, nonsexual moments between the characters were my favorite part. That softer first-love side of the story was sweet and easy to root for.
Where it lost me was with the intimate scenes. For two virgins, everything felt a little too polished and confident, and I wanted more awkwardness, nerves, and figuring-it-out energy. The spiciness itself was good, but for me, it didn’t always match the characters. Give me the messy first-time feelings. Let them be a little weird so it feels believable.
The story also started to drag after a while, so even though I liked some parts of the relationship, the pacing made it harder to stay fully invested.
The duet narration by Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires was clear and easy to follow. They did an amazing job, and I always appreciate duet narration when it fits the story.
Overall, this had some really sweet moments at first, but the pacing and overly polished first-time dynamic kept it from being a stronger listen for me.
I’d recommend it to listeners who enjoy college romance, first-love stories, duet narration, and character-driven relationships.

March 2, 2025For a debut novel, it's surprisingly pretty good. But I still don't know what to rate it. So I'm leaving it as read for the meantime. 😄
It's really just about these two college students, Colt (21) and Hailey (19), who are totally obsessed with each other and, let's be real, super horny throughout the whole book. 😂
I’m all for those unhinged and obsessed MCs, and it’s usually the guys who fit that bill. But in this case, I think Hailey steals the show and wears that title like a pro. I really love that she’s a go-getter. 🤭
Tbf, I could only get into an obsessed FMC if I knew that her feelings were reciprocated by the MMC. Otherwise, it’s just a one-sided thing and that wouldn't be fun to read. 🤷♀️
Anyway, as for Colt, don't worry; he's just as smitten, but it took him quite a while to make his moves because he feels like she's out of his league. But when he finally got his act together, it was just so good. It's so fun to see how crazy obsessed they are about each other. 🤣
I had fun with it, honestly, buuut the spicy scenes, my gawd, were too much for my liking. 🫣 These two are the most horny and kinky not-so-long-ago virgins I've ever read this year (by far). 🥵😂 The number of times they went at it was insane, and the first half of this book comes across as the longest foreplay I've ever stumbled upon. 🤣
It's not bad by any means, but the majority of this story revolves heavily around their obsession with one another, their pent-up sexual frustration, and finally indulging in it after they finally became honest with how they feel. 🫣
Anyhoo, I thought the ending was kinda rushed, and I'm curious to know what happened to her nasty dad. Even though she’s moved on and cut ties with her parents, I can’t help but wonder what’s going on with them now. 🤔
Also, I wish we got to see more of Hailey with Colt's family, and I was looking forward to those moments because it's so obvious how they absolutely adore her. 🥹
Overall, this can totally be a fun read when you're just looking for something light and easy to enjoy. I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously at all. 😂

This book is Sorena Graves debut book and it was FANTASTIC! I couldn’t put it down. The tropes in this story were chef’s kiss. I love her take on the male version of the curvy girl we all root for. Hailey is a badass boss babe. She knew what she wanted and went after it. The mutual pining with a touch of unhinged had me squealing. Y’all…the spice…H-O-T AF! Quiet Colt is a freak in the sheets, with a filthy mouth. I loved every second of it!

Well well well, wasn't this one quite the little surprise. I had no idea what I was in for with this silly little college football romance. But what I got was a spicy little number in my earholes! Yes, I did listen to this audiobook and I do HIGHLY recommend that that is how you consume this one because this one is rather spicy and you will want to listen to the scenes, just trust me on this one.
This is Sorena Graves debut novel and what a debut it was! I absolutely loved our MMC Colt. He's a much different MMC than what we typically see. He first comes off as shy and timid. He's obsessed with out FMC Hailey but he doesn't think he has a shot in hell with her. So what does he do? He just low key stalks her BUT guess what? Our overly confident and popular FMC is also obsessed with Colt. In fact, she has no clue why he wants nothing to do with her, so what does she do? She tries to get his attention but adding him and ONLY him to her close friends story on IG and shares photos just for him! Ugh it was so good!
And if you think you are going to be getting a sweet little college romance. WRONG! You are going to get a spicy college romance where two virgins are having fun finding out what they do and don't like. And out shy little Colt quickly realizes he's got a dirty little mouth. I was surprised how spicy this one was. I will say that was also my slight downfall. I personally think, as hot as the spice was, there were moments where I felt like the scene was unnecessary. I'm a girl who prefers more plot than spice. But that's just a personal preference. At the end of the day, I did enjoy this one overall!
Now let's talk about the narration because it needs its moment. This is a DUET NARRATION audiobook and holy moly was this one really good in audio. Like is said early, this spice in this one is only amplified in audio and I think it's the preferred way to consume it. The book is narrated by Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires and they both did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. Hailey is this popular cheerleader and that was reflected with Casey's narration. She totally sounded like this confident cheery girl. And Gabriel, his deep voice was perfect for our BIG BOY Colt! His growls 🫠🫠🫠 it was perfect!

I love how obsessed both Hailey & Colt are about each other! These two have been interested since they first met and low key I loved the small unhinged moments they both have as their story unfolds. And sheeessshhh was this so much spicier and delicious than I anticipated, but I ate it up!
The audio was performed in duet by Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires and both of them really delivered with this audio! I couldn’t stop listening and would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy college sports romance!

Well this was such a fun, delightful book!
I loved Hailey and Colt, the mutual obsession was so fun to read. They really went from 0-100 so quickly but what they lacked in experience they sure made up for in obsession, devotion and their eagerness for each other.
I wish this was longer, I would have loved to see more of them together properly after they got the drama with her dad sorted out. Or even a longer epilogue but I hope we’ll see them in future books since both of their besties are going to get together too.

3.75 ✨ artık çok fazla kolej ve spor romantizmi okumayı sevmeyen biri olarak beni hemen içine çeken ve ilgimi hep yüksekte tutan bir kitaptı. Hep okuduğumuz klasik gidişatın aksine burda kadın karakterin oldukça farklılık getirdiğini düşünüyorum. Bu sefer avcı olan erkek değil kadındı. İlk karşılaşmalarından itibaren erkek karakterimiz Colt’u aklına kazıyan Hailey, yıllarca Colt’un ilgisini çekmek için küçük planlar yapıyor. Aslında Colt’un da kendisinden takıntılı bir şekilde hoşlandığının farkında değil ve Colt’un uzakta kalmaya çalışmasını kendisinden hoşlanmadığına yoruyor. Aralarındaki bu anlaşmazlık beni sinirlendirecek kadar uzun sürmüyor neyseki. Yazar bu kısımları, geçmişleri olarak kısa kısa bizle paylaşmış. Aslında lisede tanışmışlar ve günümüzdeki üniversiteli hallerine kadar aralarında böyle şeyler geçti şeklinde, çok da beni boğmayan ama dinamiği anlamamızı sağlayan ilk kısımları okumak da eğlenceliydi. Colt başarılı bir sporcu olsa da spor dışında sosyal alanda pek başarılı değil ve yaşıtlarına göre hep fazla iri olduğu için de çoğu zaman alaycı yorumlara maruz kalmış. O yüzden Hailey gibi birinin onu isteyebileceğini hayal bile edemiyor. Korkusuz bir kadın ve utangaç erken kombinasyonu burda baya keyifliydi. Aralarındaki çekim ve smut iyiydi. Hailey’in babası tam bir pislikti açıkçası biraz daha sonu uzun yazılsa hoşuma giderdi. Biraz hızlı ve acele bitti sanki. Genel olarak sevdiğim bir kitap oldu. Ayrıca it’s always the quiet ones…

- I liked it at first, the writing style was good and it was mostly all show and not tell, but then the plot was just god awful terrible. And the spice went on and on and I just started glazing over. I almost DNFed around 80% but then I wanted to see the resolution.
My optimistic comments from early on:
- Loved that she was the one pursuing him, and she was really pretty and he was unconventionally good looking. What a change. Plot
- Also I love that they actually got caught fucking in a hallway!!! Well at least overheard. lol that never happens.

Here we go with another new trope for me… and I freaking loved it! We’ve all read about plus size FMC’s, but what about a plus size MMC? Colt was sweet, caring and downright adorable. My heart squeezed every time he described how he wore larger clothes than necessary, tried to hide, or even listening to how he felt about himself. People treated him differently because of his size and it pissed me off. I’ve never wanted to hug a fictional character more in my life. Do NOT get my opinions twisted… this book was way spicier than I thought it was going to be… *clears throat and fans face*
Listening to the audiobook gave the storyline and characters a certain vibe, with the duet performance by Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires, had me feeling several emotions. Casey is a new-to-me narrator who did not did not disappoint in the slightest. I enjoyed listening to her give the FMC a sweet but strong voice and personality. To no one’s surprise, Gabriel Spires gave a captivating performance. His deep and comforting voice always locks me in, allowing me to get lost in his storytelling. Plus those little nose sniffles, throat clearings and other sound effects he makes, give such a real-feel to his characters that get me every time.
Out of the Shadows turned out to be much different than I thought. On the outside, it’s a sweet, college football romance that follows Colt and Hailey, and their wicked obsession with each other. One that started in high school and continued into college and beyond. Being from wealthy families, new and old money, nefarious things brew in the background that surrounds their new “not fake” relationship. I liked that Hailey took charge of the situation when the timing was right and went after what she wanted. Not all girls wait for the guy to make the first move, and we don’t see the very often in books. Be aware that both characters hold that ‘V Card’ but once they cash it in, all bets are off. This book was not only spicy but held a certain unexpected naughtiness. Do not let the discreet cover fool you… listen at your own risk because… 🥵

Colt is a bigger guy and has always been self conscious, he couldn’t even imagine that Hailey would be interested in him, so he keeps his distance much to Hailey’s disappointment. When they run into each other at college, Hailey’s room mate assumes Colt is Hailey’s boyfriend so she just runs with it. Colt agrees, and soon this doesn’t feel fake anymore.
I really enjoyed the interactions and dynamics between Hailey and Colt and all of their friends. Her father/mother dynamic was really strange to me, but didn’t ruin the book by any means.

First, congratulations to Sorena Graves on her debut novel! Thank you for the arc!!
This was my first book about a “big boy” but I absolutely loved it. Completely devoured in two days.
I will say this book did have some juvenile moments, as both MC are young college students but I feel like they were very relatable. The way both MC knew what they wanted and would do anything for each other had me hooked. The spice in this one was definitely spicy so get ready 🥵 I already can’t wait for book 2 of the series!!

LOVED THE AUDIO! This audio was everything I needed it to be. Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires did Hailey and Colt justice with this one! Hearing them come to life was giving me life listening to it. And the fact that I got to hear every time Hailey walked Colt like a dog🫠.
I was so excited to get the chance of this ALC because I loved reading it. Getting to hear Colt become more confident and all the filth this man spewed, let’s just say it was HAWT!!! The hot tub scene👏 after the game scene 🙌 making it real scene 🫶🏻 ten times better in my ear holes.
Also, we protect Colt at all cost. This man is shy and awkward but has one of the filthiest mouths. Like where did you come from my guy?!
This audio had me laughing, swooning and sweating throughout and I loved every second of it! I don’t know how many times I was like Colt Michaels is the man or that’ll do it came out of my mouth during this!
The audio was performed duet narration by Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires and I loved this so much!

He sees Hailey for the first time, becomes obsessed with her and doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. Not knowing that she would like to climb him like a tree. Colt is shy and so freaking cute.
After they are both at the same college, they start fake dating, for their own reasons, one of the main ones on both of their mind (unknowing to each other) is to make it into a real relationship.
When I tell you, Hailey is one of my favorite FMC bc she goes for what she wants and totally owns the fact that she wants Colt. In the very beginning, she talks about wanting a big boy if you will and then boom, there’s Colt.
Oh and when it gets spicy, it gets spicy. I would never expect Colt to talk as dirty as he does to Hailey, chefs kiss. It’s always the quiet shy ones. And let me tell you, Hailey eats that up. Not only that, she also has a filthy mouth and Colt is obsessed with that too. My favorite microtrope happens, he spits in her mouth. Not just once and I am here for it.
This book had me hooked from the beginning and I finished it in a day. I need a Hunter book with a certain female character 😏.

From a simply crush, something else had grown, something I couldn't quite name. It had wrapped itself around me in a relentless grip, body and soul. Now I knew with unerring, unshakable certainty that Colt Michaels was my endgame.
This college romance is a little darker and grittier than I was expecting but the slightly unhinged heroine, Hailey with her focused determination to get her man easily convinced me and than there was Colt! I totally get why Hailey was so hellbent to crack his shell. He was such a sweet person that was overlooked and judged by his outer appearance. I was rooting for him so much.
When they reunite in college, things progressed rapidly but it worked for me. I liked that their relationship was a little on the crazy side, I loved the friendships that were formed and I loved watching them both stand up against her father - a truly nuts villain that deserved a visit from Karma so bad! Hailey and Colt were a whirlwind of chaos but they were so charming together. They clicked on a level they weren't really expecting since neither had ever let anyone so close before, but that didn't stop them for going for it in the end.
I can't wait to see where this series goes from here because there are so many characters with potential for their own books. I'm looking at you Hunter & Ella! Any girl that can quote HP and supports the girl gang like she does is an auto bestie! But there is also the other guys on the team too. Shout out to Jax, Asher and Knox.

Colt and Hailey though. The big boy and the cheerleader. Think, "Blindside" if Michael and Collins were a couple. They give off the BEST energy honestly, and I loved them both so much. The mutual obsession was SO real, and I loved how forward Hailey was with taking what she wanted. She refused to take "no" for an answer but let's be real - Colt wouldn't have said it anyway. I loved how the mutual pining and obsession played such a crucial part in the foundation of their relationship. Yes, they were obsessed with each other but their feelings were actually beautifully genuine, heartfelt and so, so deep.
I loved these two so much and their chemistry just poured through Sorena's words and off the page. The spice was hot, man. Like - scorching. Colt, yeah he's an enigma. His mouth though- it caught me off guard and I wasn't expecting it, at all but I loved it so much. He screams 'self-conscious gentleman in the streets, but dirty talking m'fUcker in the sheets! Damn.

Out Of The Shadows is Sorena’s debut but holy smokes you wouldn’t know it. It’s book one in her Blue Ridge University series. She brought the spice! I devoured this book, I couldn’t read fast enough, but also didn’t want it to end. This is a college football romance w some opposites attract, fake dating, mutual pining and obsession sprinkled in. This book was deliciously good. I can’t wait for what she delivers us moving forward.
Colt and Hailey are total opposites. Colt is a big boy and Hailey is a tiny little thing but she has her sights set on him from day one. It takes some personal development and growth on Colt’s part to believe she’d be into him for real. I liked how Hailey really helped build up Colt’s confidence and helped him become comfortable in his own skin. I enjoyed the side characters as well and have some questions about them so I’m excited to see what’s next in this series.

This was a solid debut novel! Colt is a big, beefy football player, while Hailey is a small, petite cheerleader, and they are completely OBSESSED with each other from day 1.
This was entertaining to read and pretty easy to follow. I enjoyed the fresh take on a college romance.
The spice... was SPIIIICY AF. I definitely was not doing things like that when I was their age thats for sure 🫠 Colt has a serious mouth on him!
If you're looking for a college football romance with mutual pining, DUAL virgins, and no third act break up, then give this one a try!

There's a perfect book for everyone, but this one was not for me, even though it had potential.
We have an assertive-as-hell FMC who knows what she wants, and a shy MMC who lets her take control (at least at the start). And I LOVED that. I loved seeing a strong-willed woman in charge. But when it comes to Hailey, it's more than determination... It's pure obsession. The way Colt came out of his shell and let his possessive side shine... yes. He is also a perfect gentleman, always keeping her well-being in mind.
Their mutual exploration of each other (since they are both virgins) was cute. Be warned, this book is silly-spicy to the point where it's center stage. These two are hella frisky if you know what I mean.
Now, while I understand that our main characters are starting college, they were too immature for my taste, and the fake dating trope is not accurately represented since they behave like a couple in private from the get-go. They are both head over heels and obsessed with each other - and they have been for a few years. To a point that while separated, they kept tabs on each other - mutual light stalking if you will.
Another thing that did not sit well with me was the low-key prejudice Colt faced for his size. I had a hard time understanding what the actual problem was, as he is described as tall and muscular. At one point, there's a Beauty & the Beast comparison, but I still did not get it. Colt was described as a good-looking guy, just big. He sounded perfect to me.
On to the audiobook performances. Gabriel Spires was perfection. This is my first audiobook with him, and he has this delicious, deep voice that I love and look for when picking up romance audiobooks. His performance as Colt was amazing, plus he demonstrated good vocal range which allowed him to interpret the male side characters really well. His performance really elevated the story for me.
Unfortunately, Casey Montgomery was not it for me. Her rendition of all the female side characters was much better than her performance as Hailey. She sounded too robotic throughout, with no vocal cadence.

This is my first audiobook with him, and he has this delicious, deep voice that I love and look for when picking up romance audiobooks. His performance as Colt was amazing, plus he demonstrated good vocal range which allowed him to interpret the male side characters really well. His performance really elevated the story for me.
Unfortunately, Casey Montgomery was not it for me. Her rendition of all the female side characters was much better than her performance as Hailey. She sounded too robotic throughout, with no vocal cadence.

Out of the Shadows completely pulled me in from the very first chapter and didn’t let go.
This story delivers everything I love in a romance—angst, tension, and a deep, emotional connection that builds so beautifully. Colt Michaels absolutely wrecked me. He’s quiet, broody, and so stuck in his own head, believing he’s not good enough… and watching him fall while fighting those feelings? It was equal parts heartbreaking and addictive.
And our FMC I loved her. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. The fake dating trope was done so well—packed with mutual pining, tension, and those moments that make you want to scream JUST KISS ALREADY.
The chemistry is Insane.
The angst is Chef’s kiss.
The spice is Perfectly balanced with emotion.
Now let’s talk about the narration…
Casey Montgomery and Gabriel Spires absolutely brought this story to life. The emotion they poured into these characters made everything hit so much harder. Casey captured the FMC’s strength, determination, and vulnerability so effortlessly, while Gabriel delivered Colt’s quiet intensity and inner conflict in a way that had me completely locked in.
You could feel every moment—the hesitation, the longing, the tension… it was all there.
I also really appreciated the “big boy” MMC representation—it felt refreshing, real, and so needed. Add in dual POV, double V-cards, and a slow-burn that builds into something so worth the wait, and this story just hits on every level.
This isn’t just about falling in love—it’s about seeing someone for who they truly are, even when they can’t see it themselves.
If you love fake dating, emotional tension, and a hero who doesn’t think he deserves the girl (but absolutely does), you need this on your TBR immediately.

I have been dipping my toes into the sports romance genre more recently thanks to a lot of books becoming so mainstream and getting TV adaptations. So of course I was excited to get a copy of this one - and I had no idea what I was getting into! If you are looking for something that is heavy spice with a side of everything else, this may be for you.
There were so many things I enjoyed about this story. I don’t see it often enough in books where the main male character is not the standard “super attractive” guy who gets all the ladies. While I do enjoy reading about sexy characters, it was nice to get something a little different from this one. It’s also nice to see a female character take the lead in her obsession with him rather than the other way around. The dynamic in their relationship was refreshing. I will say tho - some of the spice (while very good) didn’t seem realistic for two people that have no experience. I felt like there could have been some more trial and error or learning that could have contributed to their journey. They are both in college when they decide to fake date each other, and I honestly can’t tell you what they were majoring in. The focus was so heavy on their relationship and the spice, that I felt like I was losing some of the rest of the story.
Casey and Gabriel were amazing narrators - I believe this is my first experience listening to either of them and will definitely be looking for some of their other work.

When my girl Sorena reached out and let me know she was releasing her debut novel I could not have been more excited and signed up faster to able to arc read her first ever book baby. I am so proud of you and so honored to have been part of your journey!
Hailey and Colt meet for the first time at an event that their parents dragged them to. Once that first interaction both teens realize that their lives will never be the same and that they want the other as part of it. While both Hailey and Colt think theres no way the other would feel the same way, years later at another event the two have a tryst that ends with more obsession on both sides.
When Hailey manages to get into the same college Colt goes to she has one goal- to make him hers. When Colt realizes that Hailey will be in reach for the foreseeable future he has one goal- to make her his. The mutual pining and hidden agendas and feelings between these two built the foundation for they relationship that while fast- was truly meant to be. Both Hailey and Colt are the sweetest baby angels. While their union was quick, their feelings were deeper and more complex than I was expecting.
For being a debut novel this book was very well written. Both Colt and Hailey had their strengths and weaknesses and the way they sought each other out and relied on each other was adorable. While I personally was not banging the way these two were banging at 18-21….the spice was SPICINGGGG.

h follows H to college (one year separation), and asks him to be her fake boyfriend so she don’t have to keep all the boys away. Yes, she’s a popular cheerleader so as much at it sound like a bitchy attitude it actually made sense in this. H agrees bc he will use this chance to win her over, something that h plan to.
The seperation:
In this book I felt the separation in the beginning when he went to college was nessesary because he had so low confidence that he needed that time to grow. Also didn’t help that they both kept being obsessed with each other and that the H never thought about touching another girl.
Safety:
- they are their first and only
- h father forces her to go on dates with men he finds appropriate, G fallows h on these, it never happens anything on the dates. H teammate is one of them, he causes some drama, but h is not interested and never was.
Also really liked how it wasn’t portrayed any manwhores in this book - so if there are any, it wasn’t mentioned at all, something that was so refreshing.
Really excited for the next book, but mostly Hunter (and hopefully Ella)
