Clarissa Cartharn writes a beautiful and poignant retelling of Cinderella in Red Collar.- Readers' Favorite (Nov 27, 2013)

When the survival of her family is at stake, Kate Ripley will do what needs to be done to save her young siblings and alcoholic mother, even playing the role of secretary and mistress to the handsome yet cynical billionaire known as Clayton Reid. Unfortunately, the way Kate stumbles upon her unique and high paying opportunity means the dashing yet arrogant billionaire believes her to be a prostitute. A reasonable assumption since she was hired as an escort initially. After a rocky start pierced with many moments of pure attraction, their lust is satisfied but quickly starts to grow into something more. Clarissa Cartharn writes a beautiful and poignant retelling of Cinderella in Red Collar. Kate struggles with her job, with what she is resorted to doing for survival, but at the same time she feels drawn to and inflamed by Clayton.

Six days. That is all it should have been between Kate and Clayton. Six days playing a young couple madly in love for his family. But it could never be because she is a feisty woman who doesn’t bend to his whims and he’s a handsome billionaire who makes her lose her mind with one touch. Clarissa Cartharn put a truly fantastic spin on Red Collar, simply dropping the reader into the tumultuous relationships in Kate’s life. The way she paints Clayton as both arrogant and kind takes the reader on a journey to discover who Clayton Reid really is and if that man is good enough for kind and caring, if a tad bit cynical, Kate Ripley. Between the burgeoning love they both try to fight and the steamy erotic scenes, Red Collar will have you wishing for your very own Prince Kinda-Charming.

DNF @20% The story sounded promising, but the writing was just awful. Either the author decided against using a professional editor, or she hired one and got ripped off.

The story was choppy, the dialogue stilted, the use of punctuation marks utterly confusing, and the characters were flat and one dimensional. The author also mixed past and present tense often. The grammar issues were frequent, i.e...'May be so' instead of 'Maybe so'...etc.

RED COLLAR might be an interesting story, but the writing errors made it too difficult to slosh through.

I need a five star read so bad, and this wasn't it :( This book had a lot of potential , but something was missing, I can't tell you what it is. All I can say is that it wasn't there...

First off, thanks to the author for giving me a copy of her book in exchange for a honest review.

When I first saw this book, I was a little worried it would be erotica because of the cover. Thankfully, it was not in my opinion. What made me reply to the author's request for reviewers was the blurb written about it. It sounded really good.

My first impression was that it read like a really good Harlequin Presents novel with a darker twist.

In the beginning, you meet Kate Ripley who is struggling to provide for her ill mother and her half siblings. She currently has a job, but not much job security. Her friend at work Bridget tells her about an escort service that pays really well. She rejects this and says she will never do that.

A little while later, she loses her job and is forced to resort to calling the escort service. Her first client is Clayton Reid a billionaire. He is sick of secretaries throwing themselves at him. So, he calls the escort service and figures he can get 2 for 1 - a secretary and a mistress. At their first meeting, things quickly fall apart and he tells her he only wants her for his mistress. Kate is ready to call it quits on the whole thing.

After she leaves, he gets her to come back the next day to settle everything. They sleep together and the next morning she is so ashamed that she sneaks out determined to never see him again. Clayton realizes he never wants to let her go. To get her to see him again, he blackmails her and asks her what her price is. He agrees to pay her so she will go to Alaska to a family gathering. The whole time in Alaska she feels guilty for deceiving his family. Clayton tells them she is his fiancée. Eventually, everything falls apart because of Clayton's insecurities and suspicions. Kate leaves heartbroken.

The ending has Clayton groveling to get her back.

Overall, a great contemporary romance.

I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for a honest review. Yet another beautiful romance by Clarrissa. What I like about her books ( previous book Winter's End) is that she writes with a flair that most authors would be envious of! She also touches on current matters and some history thrown in for extra effect!
Another thing that I find refreshing about the book, is even though it is about a girl that is forced to become an escort to a billionaire, it has fresh new twists and also it is not vulgar like some books I have read in the past. The author, I think has realised that by vulgarity, not much is achieved. This book leaves you with a positive feeling and evokes empathy for the main characters.

If you are a true romantic at heart and wish love and happiness on all out there, no matter who they are, you should read this book! Before I forget, there is also not a lack if passion throughout the book.

All and all, this is a romantic/ erotic novel that will tick all the required boxes in the must read section!

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. The blurb was interesting so I was kind of itching to read this ASAP.
This was really an enjoyable story. If you're looking for a romantic story that you can easily finish in one sitting, then this book is for you. The story got me hooked from the first page until the end. It's been a long time since I last read something like this and I'm so happy that I get to read this.
The story has the usual rich guy/poor girl elements that readers love. I enjoyed how the h/h's dialogues quickly change from love to hate and vice versa. It was very entertaining and fun to read, although in some parts i can't help but feel frustrated. Some of their conflicts could have been easily solved with proper communication and less pride. But then again if that happened we won't have this story now, would we?
The characters were all well built. I love Kate's character. She's a strong woman who has a big heart and a very compassionate nature. And she can hold her own against Clayton. Clayton, on the other hand, is your typical millionaire/businessman here. Cold outside but passionate inside. I love how he tried to win Kate over even when he thought that Kate was really a hooker. I loved every minor character in the book, but most especially Lorenzo. He was such a nice and interesting guy and I think he should have a story of his own. I wish the author can write a spinoff on Lorenzo and Libby. I'm really curious about how they came to terms on how they feel about each other. It wasn't explained in the story.

As a man, I must say that many love stories fall flat with me. Too often writers tend to do everything that just makes you want to feel giddy and be in love with their book or their characters. Most times this approach does not work and it turns me off. Not so with Red Collar. I found the human element of the book so engrossing that I found myself flipping page after page enjoying wonderful moments, talking to the characters figuring out their worlds. That is where I like to be in a story. It moved at a good pace and held my interest all the way. it was very believable and yes, hot and steamy at points. In fact if it wasn't hot and steamy at times, I would have been disappointed because the cover suggests we are about to get into something and we really do! There is a perfect mix of love, sex and situations. I give this book 5 stars.

IT'S NO PRETTY WOMAN
I have to say I came by this book by complete accident. Being a man, I don't often go browsing for women's fiction. The cover caught my eye and the blurb sounded interesting. The last time I read or saw anything with a prostitute in love was "Pretty Woman".
But this is nothing like the movie. There is a great backstory with strong secondary characters. The main characters are hot as a couple and their tug-of-war blew me away. My only disappointment was I wish the author had revealed how Lorenzo and Libby got together. I think I may have loved this couple a little more than the main couple themselves.
Despite that, I am in love with this story and would probably read it again. Yes, this one is definitely staying on my kindle

Well written, interesting slant on the billionaire romance genre
This book caught my eye through its interesting cover. It’s a good story, well written, and a refreshing slant on the billionaire romance that there are so many of.
Almost a drama as well as a romance, I enjoyed the well-crafted plot. A saga like love story that is easily read and very satisfying, this romance has everything. It’s steamy when the story needs it, poignant, and Clayton, the billionaire is very likeable. Must have 5 stars.

Loved It! I was recommended Red Collar by a friend and I have never regretted picking it up. It was certainly a page turner that had me engrossed from the first page to the very end. There was love, romance, flirtation, steam, angst and a tale that ran deeper than I expected. It was everything I needed in a good romance. Kate and Clayton were a great couple and they stirred up enough heat to warm me up!

I received a copy fro the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. This is a great story. It has all the emotions you need for a great story. It will pull you in and keep you there until the very end. Kate loses her job and while trying to take care of her dying mother and four half-siblings, she decides to try her hand at being an escort. Her friend talks her into trying it and her first assignment is with billionaire Clayton Reid, he is demanding, controlling and possessive. Can she do what he wants her to do in order to help her family out? Can she be his pretend fiance' without falling in love with him? Grab a cup of coffee or tea, or whatever you drink) and sit back and enjoy this story. This is the second for me by Clarissa Cartharn and I loved it, looking forward to reading more from her.

Red Collar by author Clarissa Cartharn was an interesting read. I can honestly say that I enjoyed this book. There was the love story; however it had such an emotional secondary story behind it all. The main characters, Clayton and Kate were hot together. In the beginning of the story, I stumbled over the plot, however as I read further I quickly became immersed in the story. In fact I did not put it down the entire time I was reading. I loved the story line that involved the secondary characters. In fact, I hope the author writes about then next. As a reader not a writer I can say that I would recommend this book to others.

I love believable characters in a book and miss Cartharn knows what she is doing. I think this is her main talent. Kate is a very strong woman who knows what she wants, yet the author endowed her with a certain vulnerability that touches the reader and makes him care for her. I have also enjoyed the sparkling dialogues, they were natural and inviting. I've greatly enjoyed Kate's story of love and passion. I did not care much for Clayton but, at the end he makes a very intriguing character. This could make a very interesting movie :).

I thought this story was brilliant. The author of this story took a beloved fairy tale and gave it a magnificent spin. Will the Prince love Cinderella if she was a prostitute. Such an intriguing question. A question that had me reading this book intensely for the answer. Loved this book. I highly recommend.

I am happily give it 4.5 stars, I loved it so much.

My first thought was:
description

Kate Ripley is a beautiful young woman who lost his father, and somehow lost her mother when she was a child. She was waiting her in front of the school, but she never come...

Kate lost her job, she needs to find something quickly, and that's when he met Clayton Reid.

She accepts the offer of secretary-cum-mistress to billionaire Clayton Reid. But can she survive this new role without sacrificing her dignity… and falling in love.

I loved the characters, the story, I just can't put it down, I finished it within a day. It's an awsome read, with well-written scenes. I love Clayton's and Kate's family too.
I was eager to read more and more, there was a tension between Clayton and Kate - the sexual wanting, and the lot of secrets. They both have a huge one which affect their life.

Can he afford to fight against his principles and risk all he’s worked for to keep her?

You must read to know it!!

In exchange for a honest review Red Collar was given to me by the author. I liked this book a lot but unfortunately I didn't love it.

Kate Ripley is desperate, her mother is dying of liver problems she has to look after her 4 half siblings and she has been made redundant. Desperate times call for desperate measures so she joins an escort agency and meets Clayton Reid.

What can I say about Clayton Reid, hmmm, he is ruthless, has no regards for other peoples feelings and always gets what he wants. He thinks that money can you buy you everything but it can't. He hires Kate and thinks that she is a whore for a living, has stalking tendencies and well has so many walls built around him that trying to break into Fort Knox is a walk in the park in comparison. What irritated me was the lack of communication between Clayton and Kate. If they had spoken about what was going on rather than assuming things.
The ending fell a bit flat for me and after Clayton's family did a background check on Kate it was all suddenly ok, I mean come on, really???!!!!

Author has a Masters in English but the grammar errors and word usage went from American to English to NYC slang. Good story got lost in very poor word choice and sentence structure - story just did not follow a steady flow.

Poor and emotionally stable young woman takes on rich emotionless man and we have instant love - Geez no one does character building anymore. I am not saying that we need a year for them to know each other BUT they need to spend sometime together.

Hmmm, I am at 19% so far, I just don't understand the heroine at all. She goes to work for him as his mistress/secretary but keeps telling him that he's scum and not to touch her. Considering she got the job via a escort agency and signed a contract...

I have spent the last week or so trying to decide whether to review this book, or even whether I would finish it. My reading time is extremely limited now, and I don’t like feeling like I’m wasting my time. At the same time, I don’t like to publish reviews of books if I can’t find a positive spin for them.

And I can’t.

Perhaps it’s my own fault for...

In serious need of an editor.

The only thing this book really had going was the storyline. The writing, however, shot it down. The characters were absent of any depth. The behavior resembled anything but live.

I read the blurb to this and thought, wow. I should have stopped there. Simply, it was messy.

I thought this book was well written and the amazing show of emotion between Kate and that impossible Clayton!

This is my review:

RED COLLAR

CLARISSA CARTHARN

Review by-Melody Dempsey

Kate Ripley is struggling to take care of her four siblings and her sick, dying mother. She loses her job, by no fault of her own. Kate heard of a “secretarial” position, which involved more than just being a secretary. The position was for a secretary/mistress to a wealthy, ruthless business, Clayton Reid. This dual role Kate most certainly was not accustomed to! Her funds were running very low and she knew that she had to do something and fast! This was not what Kate wanted to do, but she knew if she didn’t do something about her situation fast, it meant her siblings going into foster care and her mother’s healthcare would suffer greatly.
Kate went to go apply for the job. She found out that the mistress part of the job started immediately. Kate thought that this role would come in much later during her employment. She went to meet this wealthy, impossible man,
the tall, handsome, Clayton Reid… CEO and owner of Reid Enterprises. Their first meeting gets very intense. Later, she is “required” to go with Clayton, to meet his family and pose as his fiance. Both Clayton and Kate do their level best to try and keep their secret form his family. Kate, with her growing resentment and hatred for this man grew even more intense, making it very hard to keep their secret. Things take an unexpected turn…. This novel is very sensual, yet tense, steamy and filled with intense emotion.
A MUST read for anyone, but if you enjoy reading sexy, sensual romance, then this is the book for you!
I give this book 5 stars!

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I loved the concept. Kate is the struggling beauty, having to resort to prostitution in order to, take care of her sick mom and younger siblings. And Clayton Reid is your typical perfect alpha male hottie, that wants the companionship of a woman, with out the commitment. But, there was a lot of angst and a lot of misunderstandings. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a little angst here and there, but it felt overwhelming at times. I just wanted one of them to figure it out.

I must say though, I had to keep reading to get my resolution. And, thank goodness, there was no cliffhanger! I would have lost it if there were. So, it does end very well. So, 3 stars definitely sums it up, because I was definitely 50/50 about this book.

Now, about the friends and family, I truly loved Clayton' s family. They made me like Clayton that much more. Kate's family helped make her need to do what she does more understandable, so that was good also. But, the friendly neighbor, Lorenzo was a little confusing to me. Although, I really liked his character.

Overall, I did like the story and I would read something by this Author in the future. It was definitely 50/50 for me.

This was a classic modern day type fairy tale: boy and girl meet and fall in love despite their attempts at not doing so. Classic. The characters were all so individually likeable they just make you want to love this story and root for them. However, they are both completely lacking in communication skills. 90% off the way into the book and I was still waiting for them to have an actual, real, serious, relationship fixing conversation, and it just never happened. It was infuriating. I cannot love this book because I spent the whole time wishing I could climb into the story and shake them both until they found some sense. The only characters that seemed to be able to communicate like real humans were Lorenzo and Leah. The story does kind of get under your skin though so I will rate it 4 stars, because looking back I realize I did care what happened and did get drawn in to the story, so it definitely wasn't a waste...but this one was not one of my favorites.

**** I received this book in exchange of an honest review****

Well i'm in two minds with this book, don't get me wrong I really liked it, but I felt there was a lot of similarities with the movies "The Proposal" and "Pretty woman" which I absolutely love and have watched like 50 times, also its in line with other similar stories like Melody Ann's "Surrender", so yes in my case it was hard no to spot the comparisons, saying that, the story was engaging, I would have liked more interaction between the leads at the beginning of the book as it was somewhat confusing the incredible sudden attraction and feeling of possessiveness between Clayton and Kate, however once you reach the book's climax you understand why those emotions were so heartfelt from page one.
In overall it was an entertaining book and I do look forward to read more from this author.
