At first, Kelly Davis can't believe Hudson Industries is coming to her small town of Cedar Grove. But the rumors are true. Luke Hudson, roguish son of billionaire Crawford Hudson, has invaded her little city with his infuriating swagger and a profiteering style that could change her beloved community forever.
Luke Hudson doesn't only have his eye on Cedar Grove, though. Kelly has also caught his attention. And it doesn't bother him one bit that she already has a fiancé. Luke Hudson is a man who thrives on competition, business and otherwise.
Before he moves on, he'll turn Kelly's safe, predictable life upside down.

A spicy contemporary romance.

Since hormones began turning me from a boy to a man, I've been in love with love. It fascinates me at every stage: from that first loaded gaze, through the courting dance, to the culmination of hearts' tender passions. There are so many lovers' stories to be written and shared.
Though I haven't ruled out writing in other genres someday, it seems the romance genre is the one that calls to me right now.
Like most, I have a day job. But my free time finds me huddled over a keyboard as I put my ideas into writing.
After encouragement from friends and family, I decided to begin publishing my work. I hope you will enjoy my books!

I came across Evan Asher on Twitter, where his teasers about The Profiteer piqued my interest and I here I am sharing my views after reading the book.

Kelly lived in Cedar Grove, a very small closed community where she ran her own shop. Curtis has been her boyfriend for six years, since she met him when she was seventeen. Curtis ran his own business too and when they received news that Crawford Hudson, a very rich and well known business man was planning to build a factory in their well preserved community, panic set in about the residents' welfare. Curtis became very anxious and worried that the small businesses, including his will be lost to the Hudsons.

Crawford's son Luke, who himself didn't have such a good reputation came to evaluate the viability of setting up business in Cedar Grove. He was attracted to Kelly from the first time he set eyes on her and so was Kelly, only she didn't know who he was as he didn't look and dress like the typical high powered business man but he had the looks that most girls dream about.

From then on, the twists and turns made for compulsive reading. Curtis for one was not who Kelly had always thought he was. If anything, he was totally the opposite. Luke and Kelly gave in to their attraction for each other, knowing that it would be only a temporary fling, until they discovered that their feelings ran deeper than they thought but neither of them would admit to their true feelings. Their time together was full of love and passion but Kelly didn't believe that Luke would settle with someone like her and Luke liked to keep his freedom. Will they overcome these barriers?

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster and I would recommend this beautiful romantic story to those who like to read a good romance. I will definitely look out for other books by this author.

A small town romance pulsing with big time emotion!

I came upon The Profiteer by browsing through Amazon’s contemporary romance genre. After reading the preview sample, I knew I had to read this book by new author, Evan Asher.

But here’s the catch with a book like this, brand new author and contemporary romance. Hardly an earth-shaking event. Even the book description indicated the story might be soft around the edges. How original is that for romance? So what was the draw for me, a reader? The author’s refreshing writing style and crisp presentation. The preview pages sold me upfront that Asher would know what to do with a handful of words, and a town teeming with tension and temptation.

And yet when an author takes on the age-old story of romance he/she assumes total responsibility for figuring out how to keep the reader turning page after page. And with a simple plot, pressure to please the reader is even greater. The author must surely be prepared to turn simplicity into swirling entertainment. Evan Asher delivers, big time!

Asher entertains with the simple setting of a small town about to undergo big change that churns around the hero and heroine. Using only the back drop of a picturesque small town and the emotional turmoil of his leading characters, Asher does his best work. He doesn’t rely upon dramatic effects, car crashes, or some spiffy black ops new technology to inflate his story. He doesn’t need it. He works with his characters, and takes time to fully develop them, penning a delicious romance with the emotions from the hearts of his characters. Simplicity, simmering into unstoppable feelings.

As the reader, I experienced the swing and sway of romance in-the-making, only to be jolted by the sinking feeling of losing that heartfelt romance. But then Asher allows for the recapturing of an even greater euphoria that is well-told in The Profiteer. Other aspects of his story are conveyed easily with his select word choice that flowed naturally, without a spot of artificiality. His writing gave me that down-home comfortable feeling that I wanted to hang on to and commit to memory. And the touch of his pen captured seamlessly female and male emotions as interactions bantered back and forth.

And there’s plenty of passion in The Profiteer, but Asher has a good sense of timing as he landscapes the storyline with ample sizzle to make you want more. The author handles sensual intimacies delicately, tastefully, and yet I felt the deep strong currents of passion coursing through the characters. I found myself pulling for those kinder, softer, gentler values of the human spirit. So, who should read The Profiteer? Well, grandma for starters, then grandpa, and mom and dad, and yes, aunts and uncles, cousins, and teenagers about to graduate. And it should be a favorite among the new adult generation. The Profiteer can grace my coffee table any day of the week.

I compliment Asher for the bonus of a well-edited book to enhance the ease of reading. With the length of the book and quality of content, I would easily shoulder it against another popular novel, The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller. Both provided equal entertainment for me. And both carry the power of simplicity embraced by romance.

After finishing The Profiteer, I wished I could get a one-way ticket on a slow-moving bus to Cedar Grove and enjoy those characters for real.

Evan Asher, thanks for a Five-Star evening of reading entertainment from The Profiteer. I’ll look for your continued good works of contemporary romance.

In the words of The Profiteer's hunky hero/villain (depending on with whom he’s interacting,) I found this novella… lovely. A book I couldn't put down!

Throughout the one hundred twenty-nine pages of The Profiteer, readers will enjoy the ties of familiarity that play tug o' war with the allure of change, quirks of well crafted main characters -the raw sex appeal of Lucas Hudson and determined, yet kind, nature of Kelly Davis, as well as a perfect amount of intrigue and romance. All of which intermingle nicely with the small town appeal of picturesque "Cedar Grove."

I found Asher’s writing fluent, effortless, BELIEVABLE! No trite description, no over the top how-in-God’s-name-did-she-get-in-that-position? lovemaking. (The sexy scenes are hot, ladies! Kudos to you, Evan.)

An all around wonderful read!

The profiteer is a sweet and sexy romance centered around the small town of Cedar Grove. The author, Evan Asher, does a wonderful job of creating a vivid description of Cedar Grove whilst also allowing the reader to use their imagination. The two main characters are believable, Asher portrays their difficult yet budding relationship well and I found myself really rooting for them. The plot ambles along at a good pace and I found it a bit of a page turner - I read it on one night. The romantic scenes are written beautifully - they are sweet and sexy and avoid using language that some readers may find uncomfortable. This is a great feel-good light read and I highly recommend it. I am glad that I bought it and will certainly explore more of Asher's work.

This was such a refreshing read, a romantic tender novel penned by a male author.
This was a revelation, that pulled me in very quickly, as I read this over two days.
Kelly is an enterprising, hardworking shop owner, who is faced with the reality that, you should never judge a book by it's cover.
She gets a bumpy ride as revelations reveal that all is not as it seems to be in her home town of Cedar Grove.
An enchanting contemporary romance story.
