Rate this book
We all deserve sex that's great for everyone involved. Let sexual liberation be your guide to a truly satisfying sex life.

How we define good sex and the conditions that facilitate it will require a liberatory approach, because intersecting oppressions impose impossible sexual standards on most of us. Instead of intimate justice, we experience blocks to accessing the ingredients for erotic equity.

Good Sex presents the ingredients to revolutionize your sexual menu in a way that works well for you, including intimacy, fun, pleasure, nastiness, and connection. Each chapter offers more than just theory and science. Good Sex outlines action steps to understand, define, and practice sexual liberation in your personalized way, replacing the unseasoned sexual menu most of us were socialized into.

I was honored enough to have Dr. Hargons speak in one of my classes this semester. This book, after speaking with her, did not disappoint. I loved the personable style of the text as well as the accessibility of information. The chapters read as “ingredients” for the recipe of good sex.

The science behind, stories explaining, and “ingredients to” facilitating good sex are explored very interestingly in this book! The author narrated the audiobook which adds great character to it, but I would recommend you get the physical book so you can do the exercises.

I won’t make this review long & hard — Pun intended 🤣
I love so many things about Book.
✨ The inclusiveness of all types of relationships & all types of people was so important. Especially when the conversation is centered around something that everyone has the right to do.

✨ The importance of Consent. & not just consent in the traditional way but Consent with a satisfying connection. Consent that gives power & pleasure to everyone involved.

✨ The way you defined G O O D . Without limiting Good Sex, to just 1 specific way of doing. Because listen, I have read the books, watched the videos, taken the good knees classes & even re downloaded Twitter on my phone IYKYK. & none of these while in the moment a good idea — actively helped me obtain Good Sex. Because Good Sex is not just 1 size fits all.

📣 I really, really love how knowledgeable and FACTUAL this book is all while still being so engaging, so fun, so relatable and understandable. I felt like I was listening to one of the women in my book club - or having a conversation with my sister. Or like I called up that 1 cousin who only a few years older than you but she knows sooo much cause she got her period first. Lol . This is not another book that just gives steps on how to maintain your sex life. This book is about creating life long intimacy, & not just with a partner. But for yourself!! It gives that Girl I know better, so I do better vibe.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️10/10 Highly Recommend.

This book is so thoughtful and informative. I am actually shocked that I haven't seen more folks (especially women and queer folks) engage with the concepts and tactics Dr. Hargons offers here. I am a professor and researcher of gender and sexuality and I learned so much from the research-based analysis in this book.

I'm excited to use both the practical and emotional approaches to pleasure, intimacy, and satisfaction Dr. Hargons generously gives us here. This is definitely an important read for folks who want to understand their bodies, their desires, and their intimate vulnerabilities. I HIGHLY recommend.

Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons is such a light, especially for those who have not felt seen in the areas of sex research and science. Grounded in stories from her clients, this book provides the readers with various “ingredients” to aid in sexual liberation and ultimately, good sex. Both informative and intersectional, this is a must read for not only folks in sexual science but, in my opinion, everyone.

Thank you to Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons for sending me the ARC of this book ahead of the publishing date!

My cisgender male friend gave this recommendation and said all men should read it. Agreed, but really this book is for everyone. It’s about understanding and exploring your intimacy boundaries in multiple facets and then how do you share and grow those with someone else. If you’re looking to spice things up, improve your intimacy, or just looking to learn, give it a read.

Za mało widzę książek o seksualności poruszających temat tego, jak dyskryminacja wpływa na seks, a ten poradnik opowiada o tym w prosty i mądry sposób.

Absolute favorite book I've read about s*x lately is “Good S*x," a recipe book for pleasure, which I devoured in four hours on a recent plane ride. Fabulous, joyful, inclusive, and grounded in research with Black women at the center. One of the great books on the topic, in my opinion. I’ve been a fan of Dr. Hargons's #hotgirlscience since I saw her keynote speech at the AWP conference in 2023. The book was somehow even better than the talk. It talked about s*x in a way that felt very alive and liberating. Inspirational!

'Good Sex: Stories, Science, and Strategies for Sexual Liberation' by Candice Nicole Hargons, PhD is such a refreshing read. 'Good Sex' provides an intersectional approach to understanding and achieving sexual liberation. As a Black, femme psychologist and sex scientist, Dr. Hargons provides an inclusive framework that goes beyond the traditional conversations about sex- this ain't your mama's sex book!

She emphasizes the importance of embracing intimacy, fun, pleasure, and connection in ways that prioritize personal agency and erotic equity. She also explores the societal oppressions that shape our experiences and therefore impact our sex life. This book invites readers to revolutionize our definition of good sex through self-reflection, exploration, and a commitment to sexual justice. I really enjoyed all the funny personal stories Dr. Hargons shares in the book as well.

'Good Sex' provides a blend of research, case studies, and practical strategies, guiding readers through the journey of sexual liberation with a deeply personalized touch. Dr. Hargons, acting as our inner tour guide, provides a collection of ingredients—ideas and tools—that allow readers to manifest a sexual experience that aligns with our values and desires. Her developmental perspective acknowledges that our understanding of good sex evolves across different stages of life, whether partnered or solo. This comprehensive, compassionate approach makes the book a powerful resource for readers of all backgrounds, reaffirming that sexual liberation is not just possible, but necessary for everyone and we all deserve it.

Dr. Hargons' focus on erotic equity, psychological risk-taking (a major part of sexual adventure), and the sensual aspects of self deepens the conversation about sexuality, making the book both empowering and thought-provoking. By highlighting the intersection of sexual and social justice, 'Good Sex' serves as an essential read for anyone looking to explore their sexual identity with greater authenticity and less self-judgement. Because we all deserve GOOD SEX.
