Five stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First I have to say that I read The Build Up and it led me to want to read more by Tati! The writing is real and funny and well balanced!

I love an older FMC and a MMC who knows what he wants so this was such a great read. The secks scenes had me panting 🥵 and I cheered for this love story the entire way! The supporting characters, Tanika’s boss chick crew, Bronwyn, Jackie and Eva were great! And Celeste was so genuine and I enjoyed her realness and honesty with Gideon. I enjoyed the story and romance overall. This also reminded me to go schedule my eye appointment lol, time for some new glasses for me too 😅

Happy Pub Day!

Thank you to the author, Tati Richardson for an advanced reader copy of this book - all opinions are my own.

Such a nice read; if your in a reading slump this book will get you all the way out of it. The writing and story line in this book was great. Tanika was the type of woman I love and I see in myself, hand working, determined, natural, and a black woman. A lot of what her descriptive writing was about and how it was writing was me all over it. Tanika and Gideon was a great couple. Tanika was a sports reporter for WWSN who lost her spot to a younger reporter. Mya her assistant was on top of Tanika in all way more than one; This was just a fun cute read and I loved the excitement I got and laughter from reading this book.
Great Read!!!!!

Tanika x Gideon

This was a really good read. The development was great, and the storyline was great. But the only thing for me was that the storyline about Tanika’s job was way more developed than the budding romance between her and Gideon. It felt secondary at times. But still a fun read. Those ṣẹx̌x scenes were so very descriptive 🔥 especially for a couple in their forties....which for the record is not old BTW. If my math is right the Tanika is maybe 43, yet the book kept emphasizing how “old” they were. But for a couple of “old folks”, when they get it in, they get it in.

Jamie Lincoln Smith, my goodness that voice. It was made for me🥰🥰

I’ve been in a bit of reading lull so this cute romance/magical realism story was a nice change of a pace. I loved the first half, very cute and romantic but the conflict later in the book dragged on for way too long and really infuriated me.

I was so frustrated with Gideon at times. I really liked him up until the final act in the book where he started acting really immature. You’re in your 40’s why are you ghosting people?? I feel like the third act breakup was a situation where they were both in the wrong in some way but the onus kept falling on Tanika (even from her friends) to apologize and make things right - over a misunderstanding that wasn’t even her fault! She (accidentally) hurt him yes, but he doesn’t trust her which I’d argue is much worse. All the apologizing felt a little too close to begging for meeee. I know there was a lot of hurt involved but I wasn’t a fan of the way he was responding to her in those moments.

I originally gave this a 4, but it might be closer to a 3.5.

4.5 - “I know i need you. I’m going to come home to you.”

This was a really cute mature read with both the MCs being 40+. We have Gideon wanting to love again and Tanika finally realizing what she’s been missing. Outside of finding love there’s so much more that comes with this story. You have grief, issues with a parent, A1 friend group, the spice is very much hot, career drama, and them being sneaker heads sealed the deal.

I love the story around the glasses giving magic/paranormal aspect and what they do for Tanika. It’s like the opposite of rose colored glasses. Not only is she having issues seeing at her sports reporter job but has yet to notice there’s more to life than work. Until these glasses also make her see certain people for who they are. Gideon is ready to move on but maybe not as soon as he thought. Sometimes things happen or people come into your life showing you how much you haven’t let go. In order to love this new phase in your life completely you must cherish what you had and know there’s never any replacing it. While making room to fully embrace the new path that has been set.

Favorite scene was the talking dirty phone sex. Is was funny and cute. (You’ll see what i mean when you get there.)

Thank you Tati Richardson and Row House by Spotify Audiobooks for an ARC. Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L Wood did an amazing job with the audio.

I thought this was really cute! The first half of the book, I literally had pain in my face from cheesing and laughing way too hard. I thought the slip of the magical realism was really cool and added an extra layer to the story overall. At one point though, I just kind of felt disengaged and I felt like as soon as it started picking back up, the book was over. Overall a really cute read and I can’t deny that it had me giggling and kicking my feet.

I really appreciated getting a true adult romance story. It feels grounded and mature, with characters facing real life challenges.
Gideon is navigating grief and you can really feel the weight of his loss as he tries to move forward. Tanika and s navigating aging as a Black woman in a male dominated industry.
I enjoyed the chemistry between Gideon and Tanika but the miscommunication had me rolling my eyes and wanting to slap both of them.
This book was full of emotional honesty, healing, self worth, romance, and finding connection when life has already left its mark on you.

This audiobook was such a lovely read. I had no idea really what to expect as this was the first time I've read a book by Tati Richardson, but it won't be my last one. This one was fun and flirty, serious and raw, and entertaining and sexy. This book had so many layers and not just one storyline where the two mains wanted to have sex with one another. I like my romance books with no more than 3-4 sex scenes because then I feel like I'm watching porn. However, Richardson gave enough spice for me because once these two found a groove, then they were locked in. There's some really fun stuff in this book, but there is also some serious topics like grief, death, sexual assault, discrimination, and fighting. I mean can you really have a romance without some drama now. I really enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend the narrator and the author to my followers and other readers.

I really enjoyed this story about two 40+ individuals getting a second chance at love. Tanika is a sports reporter who’s being pushed out by her network in favor of a younger woman, and Gideon is a widower and an optometrist that Tanika ends up seeing when she can no longer avoid her failing eyesight. What I loved most about this story is how realistic it was in its portrayal of the struggles grown people have in life and love. Gideon and Tanika were both imperfect people fumbling their way through dating. It was cute, heartwarming, and funny.

So cute! Tanika and Gideon were a breath of fresh air. Their story has all the humor, spice and drama of a rom-com, while also heartwarming and inspiring. I loved the representation of mature love and the sprinkle of magical realism. I really enjoyed my time with this book and will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

3.75⭐️ i really enjoyed this book and the unique storyline it had but the 3rd act/miscommunication reallyyyy took me out of the story😭 i just think it was dragged out for a little too long

beside that, this was a wonderful story surrounding many different things, like finding love after loss, embracing life changes, and growing older

the MCs, along with the full cast of characters had me goinggg, i’m hoping this will be a series and we can see some other character get their own books, i already see some plotlines forming🤭

This book started out so well! The first arc was a 5/5 for me. Sexy, mature professionals finding love, sweet romantic moments, sprinkled with a few laugh out loud funny scenes, really hot sex scenes and a wonderful supportive group of girlfriends. What more could a girl want from a RomCom? Unfortunately, this book llost points for me when Gideon ran up on Tamika uninvited and found Colin in her hotel room. Gideon and Tamika were already on the outs, hadn’t established that they were in a monogamous relationship to begin with, yet he acted like a jealous, abusive asshole and through the biggest temper tantrum. Then the way Tamika begged and cried over and over for him to take her back, even though nothing ever went on between her and Colin was so distasteful. It was hard to see a strong independent woman completely loose herself over a man to the point that she was throwing up with stress and pain when he left town. Along with her cliche codependent thought that it would have been nice to have gotten pregnant when they had unprotected sex so she’d continue to have a bond with him after they were broken up. Because I was not a Tonika/Gideon fan by the end of the book, the HEA just felt corny and made me roll my eyes.

I was so torn on this book....I was hating how ridiculous Tanika was about getting glasses. Honestly it felt like a overreaction considering how many people wear glasses in media. She was messing up on the job but when she put her big girl panties on and finally went and met Gideon, I started loving the story! Even the bit of magic.

I also didn't like how the first time she was at the house interaction went and resolved.

And then Gideon went b!tcha$$ and the story lost me. He was a complete idiot and her groveling was just too much and unnecessary.

Losing Sight was a magically heated and inSIGHTful read! Tanika and Dr. Gideon were a match made in vision heaven!

Tanika is a sports reporter who has covered some of the most major sporting events, but has recently been relegated to covering the minor sports that nobody cares to see. Why? Because she's aging and the network is now focused on featuring their newest, youngest diva that supposedly appeals more to the viewers.

Dr. G is a fairly new widow, and optometrist. Eyes are his specialty, but since his late wife's death his business has been suffering, missing the "people" component.

They meet (again) when Tanika can no longer put off getting glasses. When his “assistant” helps her find the perfect pair, she begins to see things and people more clearly through a new lens!

I adored this story!  It was sweet, light, but had depth. It was also very relatable with trying to downplay the changes in our bodies as we age. At times I feel like the romance element was in the backdrop, but there was so much else to keep it engaging. There were some little details here and there that I couldn’t get enough of:

👓 The chemistry that evolved between Tanika and Dr. G was explosive!
👓 The friendship dynamics with Tanika and her girls was fun & fierce
👓Dr. G’s supportive relationship with Celeste was touching
👓 The sex scenes were scrumptious! 🥵
👓The magical glasses brought a special aura 😉
👓G & T's common bond over fly sneakers (I need to step my shoe game up)
👓 T's friend Bronwyn and all of her kids’ crazy names (she'd give Nick Cannon a run for his money)
👓 Houston rodeo season 🤘🏾7🤘🏾1🤘🏾3 🐎 (IYKYK)

So, "reading too much into things" as I usually tend to do, I had a problem with the whole Sarah aspect. I like how Tanika wanted to be a mentor, but there's no way I'd worked that hard to get someone to allow me to help them. Hopefully things won't backfire down the line. I also didn’t like the other men introduced into the story as potential prospects, and some of Tanika’s actions towards the end.

I hope to read more of this author’s works!! The narration was excellent!!

This was a fun read

There was a lot I liked about this. I loved that both main characters were in their 40s, and there were some comedic moments. The romance was hot! I also thought Tanika and Gideon went on some fun, unique dates. The magical realism element was a nice touch too.

That said, I wasn’t a fan of the third-act conflict. I also felt like Tanika and Gideon didn’t get enough time together on the page. There were a lot of chapters focused on her job and the male athletes she met through work, and I didn’t really see the point of some of those interactions. At times, it even felt like she was lusting after them while still trying to pursue a relationship with Gideon which was frustrating. Even though I thought the story spent a little too much time on her job, I was happy with the resolution of her work-related conflicts.

I thought the author handled Gideon’s grief well in that it felt authentic. However, the back-and-forth got to be too much for me. I know grief is a complicated and everlasting journey, but there were several instances when I thought this man does not need to be dating right now.

As for the audiobook, I really enjoyed the male narrator. The female narrator didn’t work as well for me. Her pacing didn’t match his, and towards the end, I realized I should have adjusted the speed more for her chapters (1.5x for her and 1.2x for him) to even it out.

Gripes aside, this was still a fun read thanks to the parts I liked. I would read more from this author.

Tati Richardson’s Losing Sight is a swoony, sexy, and sparkling rom-com with a touch of magical realism that delivers big on heart, humor, and heat. Centering mature protagonists navigating second chances, self-reinvention, and overdue love, this book proves that romance over 40 isn’t just relevant—it’s hot, hilarious, and healing.

Meet the Characters:
Tanika “Nikki” Ryan is a seasoned sports reporter whose career takes a hit when aging eyes and network ageism boot her from the spotlight. Cue the downward spiral—until an optometrist appointment changes everything. Enter Dr. Gideon Miles: grieving widower, reluctant heartthrob, and the last man she expects to reboot her vision and her life.

When Tanika stumbles upon a mysterious pair of enchanted glasses in Gideon’s office, the story takes on a warm magical twist. These glasses don’t just help her see the teleprompter—they let her see people and intentions more clearly. The real magic? The way Tanika and Gideon’s slow-burning attraction bursts into a full-blown inferno.

What Works:
Grown & Sexy Energy: Tati gives us a romance between two 40+ characters who have real baggage and even realer chemistry. Tanika and Gideon’s spicy scenes are sensual and playful—proof that age ain’t nothing but a number when the vibes are right.

Magical Realism Meets Black Joy: The enchanted glasses are whimsical without being gimmicky, adding a fun metaphor for clarity, truth, and growth.

Friendship & Found Family: Tanika’s “boss chick village” of friends (especially Bronwyn with the hilariously named kids) brings life and laughter to every scene.

Depth Behind the Heat: From grief and career insecurity to colorism and toxic workplace dynamics, Richardson explores these themes without derailing the joy. You’ll root for Tanika and Gideon because they’re layered, flawed, and real.

What Could Be Sharper:
While the romance simmers beautifully, some readers might find Gideon’s emotional back-and-forth a tad frustrating. There are moments when his grief looms large—literally and figuratively—making you want to shake him into the present. Similarly, the romantic arc takes a backseat at times to Tanika’s career redemption (which, to be fair, is a standout element of its own).

Losing Sight is a triumphant rom-com for the grown folks, filled with laugh-out-loud banter, unexpected tenderness, and just enough spice to keep your Kindle steaming. It’s a love letter to starting over, loving again, and seeing the magic in everyday life. Richardson’s voice is fresh, witty, and needed in the romance space—especially for those of us who know love doesn’t stop after 30.

Perfect For Fans Of:
Magical realism with heart
Second-chance romances with grown-up stakes
BWWM contemporary love stories
Rom-coms with vibrant Black friend groups and cultural flair
Enemies-to-lovers adjacent tension with a splash of grief recovery

This one’s for the Xennials, the midlife rom-com dreamers, and anyone who’s ever needed a new lens to see that love was in front of them all along.

Now excuse me while I wait patiently for the Bronwyn spinoff.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶 (Steamy & grown!)

My Rating System:
1⭐️: The book didn’t hold my interest and/or had significant issues that overshadowed any redeeming qualities for me, but generally not my cup of tea. Most likely did not finish the book.
2⭐️: The book didn’t quite resonate with me, and while my experience wasn’t remarkable, I did finish it. It had some redeeming qualities and potential but fell short in execution. Recommendable, though with some reservations.
3⭐️: Good read, but didn’t quite stand out. Still worth recommending to others.
4⭐️: Really enjoyed it and stayed engaged throughout. Would read the book again. Definitely recommendable.
5⭐️: Incredible writing that made me deeply connect with the characters. I was completely absorbed in the world and didn’t want it to end. This book stayed with me even when I wasn’t reading it. I'd gladly reread it and highly recommend it to everyone!

I don’t read a lot of romance, and I am not at all into sports, yet I really enjoyed this book. It’s nice to read about characters my age, who are competent at their jobs, having a relationship with issues that they handle like adults. The audiobook narrators are also great.

If I’m being honest, I either want my romance novels to be filled with perfect book boyfriends who I can swoon after OR a lil’ sweet yet problematic so I can trash talk them as I read. Losing Sight by Tati Richardson, does the latter and I LOVED IT!

Also, just so these publishers are aware, I, now, expect a love story filled with magical realism every Valentine’s Day, so please do not disappoint. Last year, we got A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams and this year we got Losing Sight.

What Worked:
Tati did a really good job creating dynamic characters and scenes. While it might seem unrealistic, as a former print journalist, I have never once envied the pressure broadcast journalists feel to look picture-perfect and how the natural process of aging can cost them their careers. Tati highlighted how cutthroat the industry can be, especially for Black women. You are critiqued from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.

Initially, I was wondering what was going on with all the additional characters – the F1 racer and the rodeo star, but Tati tied it all into a bow and the situations added depth the story.

What Pissed Me Off:
Baybeee!!! Both Teneika and Gideon needed therapy. And I want better for two grown-ass adults who both want love, but both are dealing with crap. Tati writes such relatable characters because we all know people just like Teneika and Gideon, who could find happiness if they could get out of their own way.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but Gideon, no woman wants to make love to you while a picture of your ex-wife looms from above. I know you are hurt, but please be so forreal!

In the end, I was rooting for this love story.

Tati, Netgalley and Geneous Press thank you for the advanced listener copy. Happy Pub Day!

Losing Sight by Tati Richardson was a 3.5 star book for me. I loved the character development and the plot of Tanika and Gideon's love story. Tanika was a hardworking middle aged woman who was not receptive to her aging eye sight, but the magical glasses saved the day. I loved how the magical realism was written into the story for both Tanika and for Gideon to be drawn together it was too cute. I also admired their connection and love for sneakers, because your never too old to be a sneaker head. The village of friends Tanika had were amazing, some friendship groups one could dream to have in this day in age. But were the story fell short for me was the third act breakup and Tanika begging to be with Gideon!!! I didn't like it at all. I guess that's just not my style of representation of love. Thank you netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the audio arc.

4.5⭐️ and 3🌶️ “Losing Sight”

Have you ever read a book and immediately wanted to watch it play out as a TV series or movie? That is exactly how I felt after reading Losing Sight. Tati is a NTMA and I’m here to stay. This one is for the Xennials!

Tanika “Nikki” Ryan - a very famous journalist is in her 40s and having a crisis…Homegril cannot see! Now this one, I had to separate myself from the character because I’ve been in glasses since I was six 😂 and could not understand why in the world she was so stressed about wearing glasses! But thank goodness for bad eyesight because her new condition led her to some magic, literally, and a sexy optometrist by the name of Dr. Gideon. 🤭

Nikki and Gideon were the definition of grown and sexy. I enjoyed their approach to dating and prioritizing each other, even with celebrity noise in the background. Gideon had his issues and things (especially the fact that he went to A&T 😒😂) And he definitely made me take some deep breaths and woosah a few times. I understand grief and closure, I do. However, I needed him to listen with his heart AND his mind on like three separate occasions. Your ego will have you losing love and sight if you let it!

The balance of career, conversation on racism and colorism in the workplace, crisis, friends, and new love was executed so well in this book. I wanted to go on their dates and hang out at their friend’s house, naked Yoga and all 😂 Nikki’s colorful crew of friends stole my heart, especially the seven kids and their names 😍 I definitely can imagine some spin off stories for the crew 👀 And I long to witness their very own bucket list in the future

CWs: grief from the loss of a spouse in the past.

I loved this book!

MCs are over 40 (they don’t give an exact age but they say they are Gen X—so I’m assuming actually over 45).

I loved the magical realism! But even with the magic this romance felt very real. Adults navigating grief, busy schedules, and fear of aging. But also many LOL moments.

Notes: takes place in Atlanta, GA. Both MCs are Black.

This was such a cute palate cleanser romance.

The comedic elements alongside the magical realism aspect really made this an entertaining read. This is the first book I’ve read in a while where grieving a spouse is told is an unconventional way.

I liked that the MCs were over 40 and that they both had jobs that I don’t see often in romances. The audiobook was good and kept me engaged.

I wouldn’t reread this but I would read other books from the author.
