He promised her forever...and then he disappeared. But he doesn't even remember what happened.

Gawd, this brought tears of angst and frustration, but it also brought a smile to my face and helped me put my heart back together. 🥹
Into the story, the MCs got separated six years ago. Grayson (28) headed to Mexico for a gig, and things took a turn when Mina's dad decided he wanted Grayson out of the picture. He wasn't keen on him for his daughter and has been a bit of a problem between them from the start.
With his disappearance, Mina (25) kept holding onto hope of finding Grayson, but her dad was quite the actor, trying to help her out at first to hide what he had done. Two years after her fruitless search, there is still no word on Grayson's whereabouts. Mina ended up declaring Grayson as dead because her father convinced her to do it.
Grayson, on the other hand, had been tortured and found himself waking up in a hospital, feeling confused and all alone. He had forgotten everything and had no idea where to go. He was given a new name, Priest, as this became his second chance at life. His dreams of Mina are the only thing that keeps him grounded. Every night when he goes to sleep, he sees her face, but he has no idea who she is. He just knows she’s really important to him, and he has to track her down. He played in so many places, always scanning the crowd for her, but it took years before they finally crossed paths again.
Anyway, they met again, and this reunion is filled with a heavy sense of longing. It was truly painful to read about the struggles they have faced over the past six years. But it was even more heartbreaking when Grayson discovered that they have a daughter, and he had missed so much time with her.
The first half of the story was incredibly frustrating because Mina refused to let Grayson explain what had happened to him. When he tried to tell her what he had been through, she just wouldn't listen and kept pushing him away. Perhaps I should cut her some slack, but he made three attempts to communicate, and each time she flat-out refused to give him the time of day. I guess she's lucky because Grayson was determined to reclaim his family and swore he would never be separated from them.
They eventually discussed the last six years, and it was then that they uncovered the painful truth: her father was the one responsible for Grayson's disappearance. Even if they have a sneaking hunch, it still hurts and angers them that Mina's father would go to such lengths to separate them.
Still, despite of everything, at the end of the day, they find their way back to each other, and their daughter was just so happy to finally have her dad around. They took their time getting to know one another, and over the years, they created a loving family together.

Edit: December 4th, 2024: After reading one of NR's none DV books yesterday, and rereading 'Broken Strings', I realized that I really can forgive a lot (only if it remains super safe with no cheating and no OM/OW drama) when our couple are each others first last and only, so I bumped my score from a 3 to a 4. Safe DV couples, is the most important trope to me. I still wish the heroine didn't lash out, but I softened my judgment of her. Below is my original review, and I still feel like the heroine could have been less hurtful with her words, but I would rather have that then a non DV couple. Close edit
Original review: I will completely spoil this story to remind me why I disliked it. The hero is the best, but I hated how the heroine treated the hero when they first reunite. Spoilers with quotes. This is the second DV Nichole Rose ruined.
Safe Dual virgins (they are each others first and only with no other, we meet them when they are already married) Quote, "She's my first, my last, my only. And I'm hers." end quote
No cheating Long separation of 6 years (he had amnesia, both completely faithful to each other) Quote, "You may have thought I was a figment of your imagination, but you stayed faithful to me, didn't you?" "Every goddamn day," I growl.... "There was never a question of that, baby. I wasn't sure if you were real or something I made up, but I couldn't…" I pause, searching for the words to explain. But she places her fingers over my lips. "I know." Her lips quirk into a timid smile. "It was the same for me. Everyone said you were dead. But I still couldn't move on. To me, you were always the only one." She shrugs, her gaze dropping from mine. "You would have been the only one for the rest of my life." end quote
No OM/OW No gross condom use No third act break up Push away from heroine when the hero needed her most (I HATE the heroine and I will explain why.) HEA
This is the story of Mina and Priest (Grayson). They met young and her father disapproved of them but loved his talent as a guitarist and used him to make money. She is rich and he is pretty poor, but they fell in love and despite an angry father (whom we never meet), they snuck around and Grayson marries her. The prologue is her puking because she things it is a virus, but in his inner monologue he prays it's because he got her pregnant. He needs to leave to Mexico for a concert but doesn't want to. She tells him to go so despite wanting to stay he goes to Mexico. They are both tired of her dad sending him off to concerts so often. Present day (6 years later), after her father's death, Mina brings her daughter Brinley and her to Texas to figure out what to do with her father's music law firm. She moves back in the mansion and seems to be in perpetual sadness and pain. I was on her side hurting for her because she tried everything to find out where her husband is. She even went to Mexico, yelled at people, demanding answers, and after a couple of years with her father telling her to bury him in an empty casket; she relents. That memory of him and the doubt that he may still be alive still haunts her. Meanwhile, we discover that Grayson was run off the road, dragged into a trap house and tortured. He survives, but loses his memory, except the memory of a beautiful red head. When he woke up from the hospital , he was named Priest. It is his wife that haunts his dreams and thoughts, but he has no idea the woman is his wife. He remembers nothing but her image and how she makes him feel. All he knows is his heart beats for her and he specifically put himself in the limelight in hopes of her recognizing him to find him. He hoped that this woman was real. Even amnesia could not take away the feeling of love he has for his woman. Mina is in the front row of the concert and they first lay eyes on each other. Priest (Grayson) is feeling all the emotions of a man that sees his one and only love and all the memories of her comes back to him. This woman is real and she is his wife! He forgets the crowd, he just b lines to her, but she is in tears mouthing "no".
Quote, "You don't get to call me that ever again, Grayson. You destroyed my life. You destroyed me. And now you say you came back for me? No. There is no coming back. You made your choice when you left me." "I never would have left that day had I known…" He swallows hard. "Had you known what? That you couldn't just waltz back into my life whenever you decided?" I hop up from the couch, pacing across the small room to put a little distance between us. "You may look like the same man you were back then, but I'm not the same girl, Grayson. You stopped being the center of my world when…" "When what?" "Doesn't matter," I quickly mutter. Sooner or later, I'll have to tell him about Brinley. But not yet. Not today. "It matters to me. You matter to me." end quote
So I don't understand this. She says that he no longer is a part of her world when she had her daughter. I thought she said she always loved him? She mourned him. She even went down there to investigate for years. When she accepted his death, why does she say that he stopped being the center of her world? She has Brinley yes, but is her heart not full of love for her husband?
Quote, "And I've been in hell for six years," I whisper. "I waited for six years. I prayed for six years. I looked for you for six years. Where were you, Grayson? What happened?" "I…" He shoves a hand through his long hair. "I don't remember everything, Mina." "Right," I mutter. "I'm serious. I woke up in a hospital in Mexico six years ago with no memories." I stare at him in disbelief. "And what? You just magically ended up on that stage tonight? You just magically remembered me tonight?" ......."Mina, please," he pleads quietly. "Let me explain." "You explained." I turn for the door. "I don't believe you. So I'm going home, and I'm going to pretend tonight didn't happen. I'm going to tell myself you died six years ago, and I didn't spend the last six years of my life mourning a man who never loved me. That's what I need to believe right now." end quote
What makes you say he never loved you?? For six years she prayed and looked for him, but he "stopped being the center of her life" according to her when their daughter was born. Which is it? In one breath she says that he was no longer the center of her world, but in the next she never stopped looking and praying for his return? He is in pieces, his heart beaten to a pulp by her angry words. My God, let him explain himself! He suffered too! Instead she says this to him.
Quote, "I'm not your wife," I whisper, grasping for the door. "You were legally declared dead four years ago. And you're still dead to me. So stay the hell away from me, Grayson." end quote.
WHY WILL YOU NOT LISTEN TO HIM???? She sees his burn marks and scars, but does not question it, or give her pause to grab him and ask how he got them! She threatens to leave, so he goes to her and kisses her only for her to bite his lip til he bleeds and then angrily leaves. He is so hurt his legs won't move. She didn't let him explain, she did not let him talk. My God! Let him tell you what he went through! He goes to her mansion and sees her light on, and waits outside. He doesn't have the courage to speak to her (and who can blame him), but then in the morning, he sees his daughter. He is more determined than ever to fight to get them both. He knows it is his daughter and is glad that when she felt like she had a virus before his trip, his dream came true. She was pregnant with their child. He is determine to win them back, but it is all about her and her feelings. Not once did she ask in the first act of the book AND the second, if he is all right, and the many times he breaks down and tells her he loves her, she becomes angry again! She is in her office, and she yells how he got in. She gets horny and takes his dick out wanting him, forcefully makes him cum and he makes her cum, he says he loves her, and instead of it warming her heart, it makes her push him away like HE did something wrong and she picks the phone to call security to kick him out! This is what happens,
Quote, "I love you forever," he groans. "God, I love you, Mina." His confession is like ice water poured straight into my veins." end quote.
He tried to tell her AGAIN and explain AGAIN, but she kicks him out. That breaks him and my heart broke for him. This is the moment that Mina became irredeemable to me!
Quote, "Get out," I whisper, that tiny flame of hope flickering…and dying. "Mina, please," he rasps, his eyes damp. "You have to let me explain."..... "Your goddamn father took it!" he roars. I snap my head up, my gaze locking with his. "What did you say?" He snaps his mouth closed, breathing hard as he tucks himself back into his pants. "Fuck." "What did you just say, Grayson?" "Nothing. It doesn't fucking matter." "What do you mean, he took it?" He holds up his hands, shaking his head. For the first time, he looks…defeated. Broken. "You want me to go, I'll go. I'll give you space to process this shit if that's what you need. But I'm not fucking giving up on us, Mina. I need you to hear me. Whenever you're ready to do that, I'll be waiting. Forever if that's what it takes." end quote,
He gives her the guitar pick she bought for him, wanting Brinley to have it. With a battered heart, he leaves her office. You are such a piece of work Mina! I have NO sympathy for you! NONE! Pushing him away after such an intimate moment like that! Did you ask how he got the scars? Do you care or love him at all? After all the history with your dad, now that you know that amnesia could be what your husband suffered because of him, did you think that your dad was the cause? You let him go clearly a broken man. Did you go after him to console him? No. Why? You don't love him as much as he loves you. He doesn't deserve the pain you put him through.
Quote, "Do I think my father is the reason Grayson was lost for six years? Do I believe he destroyed our lives? I've always believed it." end quote.
Mina, what???? If that were the case, then you would have hugged him, held him tightly, peppered him with kisses, and let him spill his heart out and tell him his story from the very beginning! He was beside himself in happiness to see you!! But you weren't. I don't believe you really loved him like you say, I KNOW you don't love him as deeply as he loves you! You showed us with how you treated him! You may have been faithful, which thank God for small favors, but that does not excuse you hurting him. And if you always thought your father was the cause of his disappearance, because he was, why was your first feeling of anger directed at Grayson?? There is a part when she needed to see his scars, so she drags him to the bedroom and made him show her. *huff in anger* Did you think that showing you would be subjecting him to mental anguish? You had to see them for you! Not once did you think how it would make him feel!!! He did it for you, without hesitation. Showing you deep gashes all over his body, exposing the torture he endured. You feel sorry now huh, kissing his scars with tears in your eyes, but you are so far beyond forgiveness, that ANYTHING you say or do would not erase how you treated 'the love of your life'. This man is the most perfect hero I have read in a long time, but my God he deserves better. He blames himself for everything, when he did NOTHING wrong! He took all her accusations and blames himself, thinking that she is in anguish because he had amnesia and he forgot her. My dude.. listen. You are the most selfless, loving, devoted, sweetest man ever, and when you needed your woman the most, she shunned you and broke your heart many times.
Quote, "You were haunting me, and I had to know if you were real. So I…fuck," he growls. "Once I left the hospital, I hunted down every motherfucker I could find, Mina. I left a trail of carnage behind, trying to find answers and find my way back to you." end quote
He not once pushed you away, instead, he feels like your outburst is his fault because he did not remember you. HE HAD AMNESIA!!! She made me so angry. If she thinks that he left her, then that means that she never trusted him, and thought that it was possible for him to do that to her. Only his character trait tells us, SHOWS us that he is not that type of man. He is loyal to a fault. He would never leave her! If her love was strong, she would have kept that fighting spirit she had when she went to look for him. He is completely faithful and devoted, and fought his way back to her, only for her to rip his heart to shreds. Her daughter Brinley was a breath of fresh air, and I am glad that she kept the memory of her dad alive for her, but I think it is because she thought he died.
Mina did eventually break down and told him that she was awful to him and mean to him, and she felt sorry for how she treated him. He needed to hear those words, and of course, he would not let her feel guilt because this man is perfect. I appreciated that, but it seems too little too late. Yes, she mourned him, yes she went through the pregnancy alone, the birth alone, and raising Brinley alone, BUT, she knows what her dad is capable of, and her husband disappearing must have all the red flags flapping. Even though she suffered, he suffered more, and I think the worst of his pain, was inflicted by her. Her five year old daughter, had more heart and more love and empathy for her dad she was going to meet for the first time! She was so sweet to him and she did her best to make him feel comfortable. She is five years old and showed more love sympathy and warmth than his wife. In terms of sex, they fucked quite a few times, but I felt so bad for Grayson and felt so much anger for Mina, that I just could not get into it. She became more tolerable after she realized that he was telling her the truth. I wish I was able to warm up to her when she asked Grayson for forgiving the way she treated him, but I just couldn't. I really wanted to feel for her, but her words to Grayson were so hate filled that I just could not see past it. I am trying really hard to understand her point of view. Seeing her husband she thought was dead on stage. The thing is he was thinking about her before the curtains were pulled and when he saw her his eyes widened in happiness. He unmistakably was happy to see her. If he were laughing, having a good time on stage, having the time of his life and she sees that, then I can understand the hurt. He claims amnesia and she doesn't believe him. Ok, could she at least keep her distance, warily eyeing him and just hear him out? Yes. I kept wanting, forcing myself to soften my anger and understand where she is coming from, trying to justify the hurtful things she said to Grayson, but I just can't. The thing is, she knows her man. She knows deep down, or should know that he is telling her the truth. There could be some tension with her silence and tears then her asking his band mates about him, making him prove to her he is telling the truth, keeping a safe distance but without hurting him with words. It is the hurtful words she threw at him, that just halted any chance of me liking her, and I really want to. Still do. He was nervous to meet his daughter, but this scene was so sweet and so heartfelt. I don't think he would be as nervous if he wasn't pushed away by the love of his life. If she was his rock like he is hers, he would not have been so scared. Now he is scared that anything he says or does will result in him losing his family. There is an epilogue where she is pregnant, she feels a lot of doubt and fear but then said that she trusts her husband and 'never doubted him"... *rolling my eyes* The whole story was her doubting him....whatever. They mention that they will always live with these memories, but I believe their life would be better, and them stronger if Mina was a selfless woman who put her doubts aside to carefully ask her husband where he has been, and let him explain, especially since she saw his scarred hands when they first talk. Knowing that her father could be the cause, once he tells her all that he has been through, they overcome this together. The circumstances of his disappearance screams foul play, so it does not take a genius to figure out her father arranged her husband's death. She asked her father's confident if her father knew people in Mexico, and he said yes. Um, you did not think to ask your father's friend this serious question YEARS ago? I thought you asked everyone questions to find your husband. You did not ask his confident? That would have put the pieces together easily. At least she would make him call her by her husband's last name and not her maiden name. I did like that, but it doesn't make her any better. We did not get a woman we can root for. A woman in love crying in happiness for the miracle before her..her husband is alive and rushing towards her with so much love in his eyes. Her first thought was to think the worst of him, rather than be concerned for him. Her feelings are that of anger, rather than happiness and gratitude. Grayson and Brinley are the best part of the book. His love for Mina is so romantic and unwavering, and my heart hurt every time Mina broke his. Brinley is a sweetheart, and I am glad she and her dad are finally together. Even though it is a DV which I love, and they were faithful to each other which I expect, I hated Mina. NR gave us one of the worst heroines she has ever written. The tragedy is that this separation romance could have been perfect since our couple was separated by a third party and both relentlessly fought their way to one another. They were each others first and only and in love. The hero was beside himself in happiness when he laid eyes on his woman. The reunion between the two should have been romantic, heartfelt and emotional. All the components of an excellent second chance romance was there, and it would have been epic if you only changed one thing. The heroine's reaction after she and her hero reunite. I may reread it one day, just to see if my mood was just not in the right place, and I can be swayed to understand Mina, because my heart wants to warm up to her. Also Brinley reminded me of Agnes from "Despicable Me" when she talked about wanting a unicorn. That made me smile. She is just a treasure.

His heart never forgot what his mind couldn’t remember. I don’t do second chance romances, but this one, this one was so beautifully written and had me choked up more than once. The pain and grief both Priest and Mina had to endure was more than most should ever have to face. Mina was an incredibly strong FMC, and she did it all for their daughter. Priest/Grayson was so tortured and yet loved Mina down to his soul. He’s memories were gone, but her vision still remained. I felt ever emotion in this book, and how they worked through it together and for Brinley was absolutely amazing. This book was everything and then some! No OM/OW drama and no cheating (even when apart there was no one else), separated 6 years, HEA and the best epilogue 1 month and 5 years in the future. Seriously, this was an emotional and beautiful book about forgiveness, redemption and family. So good! Cannot wait for Brantley’s book! Been patiently waiting for him and Isla, and if it’s anything like this one, it’s going to be one to remember.
A second chance, Broken Strings is much more than a second chance romance. It is heartbreakingly beautiful story, about a second chance to find your true love. Grayson(Priest) had it all, the woman of his dreams, Mina, the woman who loved him unconditionally. Then it was all stolen from them both, including the memories of their love. Grayson was no more, Priest was born, a man who could not remember his past, except a dream of a beautiful redhead. Mina, who had it all, a man of her dreams, who loved her unconditionally, but he left, and never returned. All she had was the memories of their love, and their child. Mina tried to forget Grayson, and the knowledge that he died without ever knowing his beautiful daughter. Mina tried to move on, but she just couldn’t, Mina always knew that her heart would always belong to Grayson. This book ripped my heart apart, and then put it back together. Just when I thought this book could not get any better, Nichole Rose sprinkled some of my favourite past characters in. Once again, a spectacular read!!!
Tropes to find: ✒️ Amnesia ✒️ Scarred hero ✒️ Secret baby ✒️ Second chance ✒️ Rock star romance
Even though the plot is slow, and it's a somewhat short story, I didn't feel it was so rushed. I felt that the culprit of the one who separated them, didn't really get what he deserved, but the fact that they say that he suffered because of what he did he lost several people in his life, I tolerate it. Why? Because in the end they focus on the "now". From the beginning I had the clue of who the culprit was. The girl wanted to make me cry sometimes, she's a sweetheart. Despite being young, she's very observant. And her obsession with a certain singer made me want to read it, or reread it? And a kiss to Priest for suggesting therapy, that's all I can say.
A second chance love, when it didn't have to be that way, but they both deserve it❤️🩹
★★★★. This was pretty angsty for a novella. The pacing worked well since they both never fell out of love even with his amnesia. I kinda loved him remembering her throughout everyhting just didn’t have a name for her face until he saw her physically in front of him.
Why was the five year old though talking like a teen? Throwing in the wrong words randomly to make it seem like she was her age was odd.
This book really put me in my feelings. I was sad and actually crying then I was happy and also crying. Priest(Grayson) and Mina had a wonderful soul touching type of love. They literally had to go through hell just to get back to each other. This is a wonderful read you will love it from beginning to end even though the tears.
I love, love Grayson(Priest) and Mina, they were made for each other! Little Brinley is soo sweet! It was soo sad what they've been through, to finaly be together! Such a wonderful and beautiful love story! Soo soo good! I absolutly loved it! 😍❤️🔥❤️🥰
Grayson woke up in the hospital with no memory. He join a band he on stage that where he see his wife he forgot he had and all his memory comes back. It a great love story. I loved it 😍 ❤️.
I received this as an arc from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This was an amazing second chance romance. It was so well written and both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Mina and Grayson shared a love that was so strong and it was such a pleasure seeing them find their way back to each other after life tore them apart. The story really moved me and I’ll be reading this one again soon.
OMG!!! WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was longer than I am use to reading but I really enjoyed this one!!
Priest/Grayson and Mina met over six years ago, he was standing outside her father's office playing his guitar when her father offered him a job. Mina fell hard and fast for Grayson who was to watch over her. Mina's father sent Grayson on trips to Mexico playing for clubs. Grayson and Mina married and moved away from her father. Grayson was still taking jobs from Mina's father when he went to leave and go back to Mexico she became sick. Grayson knew that Mina was pregnant but didn't want to tell her he wanted her to find out. Grayson never came back from his trip this time. SIX YEARS LATER, Mina brings her five year old daughter, Brinley back from San Diego to Nashville, her father passed away leaving her his company. Mina doesn't want to be back in Nashville there are to many memories of Grayson. Mina is trying to survive without Grayson, she with the help of her father looked for him for over two years. Then from the assistance of Mina's father declared him dead when they turned up no traces of him. Mina's father left her his multi-million-dollar entertainment law firm, but she doesn't want anything to do with it. Mina mets up with Riley His Future Bride to head to a concert with her and Addison Black Velvet. While Priest is getting ready to preform backstage he can't get the picture of the woman he sees out of his mind. Priest doesn't remember anything before six years ago, all he remembers is waking up in the hospital in Mexico. Priest didn't remember his name so that called him Priest in the hospital after what he survived. Priest is about ready to go on stage, when Memphis Memphis Bound wants to know if he's alright. Priest got a break when Winter A Hero for Her offered him a spot with her band. When Priest steps out on stage he sees her, Mina and his world stop spinning. Priest runs offstage to get to Mina, memories flood his mind. Priest realizes that he's married to Mina, and before he left he thought she was pregnant. When Priest reaches Mina she yells to him not to touch her, she tells him he died six years ago, she buried him. Riley interrupts them and tells Priest to get Mina backstage before the press gets a hold of what's going on. So Priest picks up Mina and carries her back to his dressing room. When Priest gets Mina backstage she tells him not to touch her. Priest tries to talk to her, but Mina realizes he left her and their daughter. Priest tries to explain what happened to him, but he ends up messing it up. Mina tells Grayson she looked for him for two years and couldn't find him, she never gave up. Mina tells Priest to go back to his concert she doesn't believe what he's telling her. Priest tells her he's always loved her, Mina tells him to leave her alone. Priest kisses Mina, and she can't resist him. Mina tells him she's not his wife, he was declared dead, she tells him to stay away from her. Mina walks out the door, and doesn't look back. When Mina gets home she says goodnight to her daughter Brinley, then thinks about how she's going to explain to her daughter about her father. Priest goes back on stage, but when he's done he doesn't know what to do, Mina hates him. Cash, Riley's husband comes to talk to Priest and tells him there's things he doesn't know about with Mina so he needs to talk to her about what happened. Priest heads to Mina's father's mansion, he sits outside and watches the house. Priest is still there the next morning, when he hears Mina coming outside, he sees a little girl that looks like Mina. Priest suddenly realizes that Mina was pregnant before he left and he's lost six years of his daughter's life. When Mina gets to her father's office the next day Priest is waiting there for her. Priest tells Mina he didn't realize her father passed away. Mina tells Priest it doesn't matter she wasn't talking to her father. Priest wants to know why she wasn't talking to him and she tells him because of him. Priest asks Mina if she wants to keep pretending he died six years ago, and she tells him she just wants it to stop hurting. So Priest pleasures Mina, then he tells her he loves her forever. Mina scrambles away from Priest and tells him she shouldn't have let him do that. Priest asks Mina if she'll let him explain, but she tells him she just has one question for him. Mina asks Priest if he knew she was pregnant before he left when he doesn't answer her, she knows the answer. Mina tells Priest to get out, he tells her she needs to let him explain. Priest tells Mina that he'll go and give her time, but he's not giving up on them. When Mina gets home she tries to explain to her daughter that her daddy isn't lost anymore he's back now. “Broken Strings” is the third book in Nichole Rose’s “Bad Boys of Music Row” series of interconnected standalone novellas.
Featuring Grayson/Priest & Mina, the book opens with our FMC, Mina sick on the bathroom floor. Mina is convinced she has a ‘stomach bug’, while her husband, Grayson watches on with adoration and concern. You see Grayson is worried, he has to leave imminently for a gig as an extremely talented musician while also fairly certain that Mina is pregnant.
The timing isn’t ideal, and Grayson is additionally suspicious that Mina’s father Lionel, (his boss and owner of a major entertainment law firm in Nashville) deliberately scheduled Grayson’s gig (in Mexico of all places) to put distance between the young couple. Convinced that he needs to prove himself to Lionel and earn a living worthy of Mina, Grayson goes against his better judgement and departs for Mexico while “[leaving his] heart behind…beating in her chest.”
Six years later we discover that Grayson never came home. Mina is a shell of herself, returning for the first time to Nashville in the wake of her father’s death. After Grayson’s disappearance, Lionel eventually convinced Mina to have her husband declared dead, without proof, while she was pregnant. Unable to withstand the memories in Nashville, Mina relocated to California to start over with her daughter, Brinley. Having now inherited a law firm she wants nothing to do with, in a city that only brings back painful memories, Mina is stressed and needs to relax. Convinced to go out for a night of fun and music, Mina is attempting to let it all go for a while when she is confronted with the shock of a lifetime… Grayson, now Priest walks out onto the stage.
Priest, has amnesia. According to Mexican officials he was found beaten to within an inch of his life, tied to chair in a trap house, with no documentation. The only things Priest knows, are how to play music and that he has a hole in his heart. He has haunting dreams of a beautiful redhead that keeps him moving forward looking for answers. Frustrated and on edge in Nashville, Priest has a feeling that everything is connected to this city, and as he walks out on the stage it all comes rushing back with one glimpse of Mina.
Yet again, Nichole Rose delivers a wonderfully well written and thoroughly fleshed out novella packed with all the spice you want. Heart wrenching and tear jerking at times, this second chance romance is the beautiful story of two broken but tethered souls that have no choice but to find their way back to each other. Grayson/Priest is a shattered but determined dirty talking alpha, hell bent on solving the riddle of his life while Mina epitomizes the devoted single mother, faithful to the memory of the love of her life and father of her child.
Don’t hesitate, read “Broken Strings” today.

Wow! Nichole you broke my heart and put it back together again with Priest/Grayson and Mina's story. While you expect some angst in an instalove Nichole is pulling out the big guns with this one and smashing you in the face from the start. Family angst from a father who wants to control his only daughter, a daughter who is headstrong and goes after what she wants and the man who her father plucked off the streets who she choose over all others. Mina and Graysons story starts off beautifully, though there's some hint if family issues they have each other. But what should have been a short work trip for Grayson ends up with him being lost and Priest being born. Six years goes by and Mina is surviving but not feeling like she's thriving, six years without her soul mate Grayson has disappeared, declared dead. He never even got to meet his daughter. Pulled back to the place of many happy memories due to her father's death, a meeting with Riley (interlinking characters thank you Nichole) puts Mina front row to a music concert, and just who should be the guitarist on stage. Her "dead" husband. Priest has no recollection of being Grayson, he has no idea what his life was previous to waking up in hospital six years ago in Mexico thanks to his Amnesia. Priest was born that day, but while he had no memories of his past life a vision of a beautiful red head was always on his mind. And as soon as his eyes lock on Mina that fateful night his memories are unlocked. Can the past be forgiven? Six years of hurt and pain is alot to forgive, but can the truth be uncovered and heal the wounds inflicted by the separation?
Nichole delivers with broken strings, it's a standalone within her bad boys of music row series but definitely give them all a read. I will be honest though, and while I've enjoyed the series, Mina and Grayson /Priests story has taken top spot for me. Just all the emotion, the twists, the surprises grabbed me from the start. 5/5 stars!!!
Nichole Rose smashes another one! Broken Strings tells the story of Priest (Grayson) and Mina, a couple who find each other young but through interference are torn apart for six years. During that time, Priest has amnesia so remembers nothing, beyond the image of a female that comes to him and gives him strength. He’s unsure if she’s real or not. And Mina, she has to stay strong to raise their daughter but can’t seem to recover from the loss of her love.
This tale had me in tears! Just watching the struggle from both sides as they come back together and try to reconnect. Plus, learning how they were separated and everything that happened to each other over the course of that six-year time span, it was so heartbreaking! The only good thing, despite being young, both Priest and Mina have good heads on their shoulders and work together to conquer everything they have to in order to move forward. Plus, their daughter Brinley is just so adorable and a delight as she brings some sense of lightness and grounding to the story. Her sass, as a young girl, is just perfect to help counter so much of the pain and suffering her parents are dealing with.
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed that the responsible party couldn’t be held accountable for their actions, but at the same time, I can be content with knowing they did suffer and lose some things because of their actions. Despite that, this is a remarkable story about a second chance and recovering from the emotional damage done as a result of an outsider’s selfishness. Priest and Mina is a great story and I strongly recommend it. Even if you haven’t read any other Bad Boy of Music Row stories, this stand-alone story is well worth the read!
Short novella with some dark twists. The heroine is a rich girl who falls in love with the hero, a penniless musician. Her father helps him but when they get married her father gets mad and sends the hero to do a job where he will lose his life. Or so he thinks. Five years later he’s back as a musician in a very successful band, but he has no memory. He was ambushed, tortured and beaten for days until he managed to get free. He stayed in a hospital for months then he met one of the guys in the band and they helped him. The heroine had a child, because she was pregnant when he disappeared. When he sees her again accidentally he recovers his memory and from there, it’s angsty galore. The heroine had these weird dreams of a redhead woman and he stayed celibate because he knew there was someone waiting for him, the rest of the story it’s him and his daughter getting to know each other, and him and the heroine having sex and what’s. So, there’s a lot of angst because the heroine was alone and never spoke to her father since the heroine disappeared. Now the evil father is dead, it would have been nice if he’d been alive because he never met the granddaughter and its said he had regrets. Regrets my azz. The poor hero suffered unbelievable tortures for days who left him permanently scarred. But in the end both were happy. Both celibate, both one and only love. It was a palate cleanser. Very short and emotional, and strangely I found the most emotional scene was when the hero met his lil daughter, they both were amazing. I liked the hero more than I liked the heroine, but she suffered too and in the beginning she thought he was pretending his amnesia and that he left her willingly, but when she finds out the truth she apologizes.
Grayson McGregor plays guitar and Lionel Cordova makes him a star. However, Grayson and Lionel’s daughter Mina fall in love. Lionel is not happy about it. He comes back in their lives and sends Grayson out on the road. It is Lionel’s way of keeping them apart as much as possible, even though they are married. Mina is throwing up and Grayson hopes that she is pregnant. He hates leaving but has to go to Mexico. He never returns.
It is six years later and Mina has come back to Nashville with her 5 year old daughter Brinley. Her father, Lionel, died 6 weeks ago and left her his entertainment law firm. She is on her way to a Nashville Music Festival to schmooze with her newly inherited clients and their agents.
Priest Alcalde recently became the guitarist for Winter’s band. Memphis is the drummer. Priest’s life began 6 years ago when the police found him tied to a chair in Guadalajara Mexico. He woke up on May 18th in a hospital bed at Alcalde Hospital and the staff named him Priest. He does not remember anything about his previous life.
It was intense when Priest goes on stage and he sees Mina and she sees him. They both have a lot of baggage from the last six years to weed through. I was hoping they could work things out.
Wow! Just WOW! This story was everything we come to expect from Nichole Rose and more. It will go down as one of my absolute favorites. This story was emotional, so make sure you have some tissues ready.
Priest is a rising guitarist, making a name for himself... except he's not sure what name that is. After suffering amnesia 6 yrs ago, the only thing he knows for sure is that his dreams are haunted by a woman he feels like he should know. Mina has spent 6 yrs trying to pull her life together and carry on after the loss of her husband. Now, back where it all started, those pieces fall into place in a way she least expected.
The connection these two had was absolutely off the charts. The passion and love just carried through the whole story. And lord, when Priest is reunited with his family once again... I don't know if I'll ever recover. It wrecked me in the best way.
If you're looking for an emotional story with a guaranteed HEA, do yourself a favor and read this one!

-dual POV -each other's first and only -married couple -no ow/om drama -6 year separation (the h's father had the hero kidnapped and tortured almost to death, he was eventually saved by the police but when he woke up in the hospital he couldn't remember anything) -no cheating or scenes with OP -likeable hero -annoying heroine -I didn't like the way she reacted when she met the hero again, I felt so bad for him, she kept pushing him away and doubting him, it was so frustrating -she's 25 and hes 28 when they reconnect -I didn't like that the h's father's assistant -a man who seemed to be a nice guy btw- suspected that his boss had something to do with the hero's disappearance but never said anything, if I had been the h I would've been furious but she was so kind to him, I thought that was weird... -I liked the scene where the hero meets his daughter, it was very sweet -epilogue: 1 month and 5 years later -married with a kid
WOW!!! This story is such an emotional roller coaster!! My heart still hurts for them and what they went through 💔😭 I felt all the emotions while reading this! I laughed, I cried, I cry laughed at times. Nichole knows how to put your emotions through it then put you back together! Priest and Mina… OH MY HEART💔🔥 These two are the definition of soulmates. Mina is such a strong amazing FMC!!! Priest is a broken but strong MMC! Their story truly pulled at my heartstrings! After everything they find each other again! So many tears 😭 The connection is so intense between them and the smexy times were absolutely mouth watering! I LOVED their little girl Brinley! I wish justice could have been served to the evil person but that’s just my need to revenge lol I loved this book so much! I can’t say it enough!!! Highly highly recommend it!!
😭😭 Ok, I bawled like a baby with this one. But don't let that scare you away. It was totally worth it. It just really yanked on my heart strings. Priest aka Grayson and Mina have an incredible love between them. Life changing, unforgettable, forever. The years apart had been excruciating for them both. They never moved on. They were it for each other and no one could compare. That's the kind of love I love reading most. Earth shattering and immovable. Their daughter was an adorable addition to the story and my main crying point. I'm getting ready eyed just remembering. The meaning of the book title given in the story was perfect. Seriously this was so good. Definitely a favorite. But I literally say that about everything Nichole writes. She's amazing.
I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
- H 28, h 25 - h 19 y when H disappeared - Second chance, 6 year separation - Memory loss - Traumatized H - Both each other first and last - Single mom - No owd/ omd

Don't pass this one up! Mina and Grayson were always meant to be. They are two souls who have been struggling but surviving. A betrayal of the worst kind cost them years apart. When Priest comes back into her life, it's devastating and hopeful. This story took me from one extreme of emotions to the other and back again. I believe that Nichole said she started writing their story and it broke a part of her and she had to come back to it. I sure hope that finishing and publishing it helped mend any broken pieces, because it was worth it from a reader's view. It might not be a long book, but it's full of love, hope and joy to balance the heartache and sorrow. It's about finding family and beginning anew against all odds. Can you tell that I loved it?
Both are each other’s first everything!! I loved this story. It was a little angsty when he left and practically disappeared, and what happened with her father. But even though he lost his memory, he had her in his mind, and his dreams. And she never stopped, loving him. I loved that they didn’t find someone else during those six years of separation. And the daughter is super special. I loved how he remembered she was his wife when he first saw her again. And the way he kept insisting on not giving up on his marriage. Talk about fight for his love. The “I love you forever” … swoon!!
I really loved the story and would read again.
SAFE - Both are virgins!! - age gap: 3 years - ow/om: nope - separation/breakups: 6 years - cheating/sharing: nope - possible triggers: he got tortured, and declared dead because he never appeared - HEA: yes
Broken Strings was NOT what I expected. Rose indicates it packs a lot of emotion and boy did she deliver it. There are strong, intense feelings from the start. In Prologue, you can feel the deep love Greyson has for Mina. In chapter one, you feel Mina’s grief, loneliness, determination. And that’s only the beginning. Rose wove a tail that is captivating and emotional. I could not put it down. Gotta be in the top 10 of my favorite Nichole Rose books (maybe even top 5!)
This book just broke my heart. Priest was a character I had so many questions about. Deep diving into him and his backstory just ripped me open. Unfolding his and Mina’s story just tore at me but I couldn’t stop reading. I wanted to know what would happen and see where things would go. The whole situation was rough but I loved seeing how everything came together. Nichole did a great job roping you into the lives of these characters. A very good story for sure!
Wow, what a deep and poignant story. I had to have a box of Kleenex throughout this journey of love and healing. Priest and Mina’s story is heartbreaking but also beautiful. “I Love You Forever” literally means forever no matter what. I felt every ounce of both character’s struggle, anger, grief and relief as they tried to reconcile the past and the present. Evil that could have destroyed them instead made them stronger. Love overcomes all. HEA.
Broken Strings is book 3 in the Bad Boys of Music Row series by Nichole Rose.
This had my emotions all over the place. Grayson aka Priest (H) and Mina went through so much in a 6 year period and when they found each other again it all burst open.
This is a second chance at love with a beautiful ending.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily leaving my HONEST review.
Priest woke.up.in hospital six years ago with no idea who he is but dreams of a red haired woman that feeling like a.piece of him when he sees that woman at a concert.it all comes back. Mina is his wife and he is pretty sure it was her father who tried to kill him. He wants to reclaim his wife but first he needs to get her to listen to his story in this sweet but tragic tale of love lost.
