When he’s obsessed with only woman that ever mattered- -- so his twin gifts her to him...FOR HALLOWEEN Close to Midnight (Reed Twins #1) Hunter Reed & Sally Clark
When innocent barista Sally Clark catches the attention of town bad boy, Hunter Reed, she thinks she’ll have a night to remember when he invites her to his family’s manor for halloween. But after a very adult game of hide and seek, it’s not just a night she agrees to.
It’s forever.
FOR CHRISTMAS Really Should Stay (Reed Twins #2) Nicholas Reed & Tamryn Carlisle
Eleven years ago, Tamryn Carlisle learned just how dangerously obsessed her younger lover was. That, plus the scandalous nature of their affair, had her disappearing -- but no one can avoid a Reed’s instinct to hunt, to chase, to claim for long... especially when ruthless Nicholas thinks of her as the one who got away.
**The Sons of Shadowvale is a collection featuring both novellas in the Reed Twins duet.
It's difficult for me to settle on how much stars to give. I really liked the overall story of twins born into a serial killer / psychopath family on Halloween. Their grandfather was a killer and their father a really sicko. The twins were interesting.. Hunter who really loves to hunt & kill his prey and Nicholas, the planner who has no conscience. In public, they switch roles and the people of Shadowvale believe they saw who the twins wanted them to see - as they are identical twins. Nicholas takes the more public role while Hunter is rarely seen. Still, nobody is the wiser as they switch identities. Like in the first book where Sally Clarke moves to Shadowvale and disregards the Town Rules not to go out alone when it's dark. She bumps into Hunter who is immediately intrigued by the woman and unnoticed by her begins to stalk her obsessively during the dark. His brother notices and starts to seek her out in daylight as Hunter.
The brothers gift each other their deepest obsession: the only woman they each ever loved. And they do it in their own sick way. While Sally is invited to a 'game' which turns out a nightly hunt on the Reed premises, Tamryn is drugged & kidnapped and lies gift-wrapped in Nicholas' play room.
I really love dark romance and I devoured Hunter's story in one go but it took me a day to finish Nicholas' story and I have to admit that I browsed a bit because I really found it a bit boring and dragged. Which was a bit disappointing because it had a very promising first part. I would give 5 stars for Hunter but don't know what to rate Nicholas, so I settled on 3 stars overall.
I loved this, I just finished it and I’m definitely somewhat sleep deprived because I couldn’t put it down.
I had not read this author before but picked it up because I really wanted a seasonal read. This book is centered around the notorious Reed twins and the first few chapters had me trying to decide if the reputation was deserved or not and by the end I’m in the camp of OH YES WITH BELLS ON… or a bow at least.
I love nothing more than a dark romance with a possessive/obsessive MMC(s), a stalker will get me every time and touch her and die vibes are always on my list. This book has all three so if that’s your jam too, you’ll be in good company.
The book is actually two books in one, the first focusing on Hunter’s story and the second on Nicholas’. The first shows a presentation of these men in the now and sets the spice level, but the second gives us the background, more of the reason of who they became and the real story on who the Reed’s are now. The female main characters are very different and I definitely did not see the change of tone in the second story coming, and I really enjoyed the shift.
The book ties up well so I don’t see another Reed story down the line, but I will certainly be reading more from this author so I’m hoping they pop up in other ways.
The Sons of Shadowvale by Carin Hart is a collection of the two Reeds Twins Novellas, Close to Midnight & Really Should Stay. I absolutely loved the Reed twins. They were both unhinged in their own ways. But oncce they fall they fall HARD! Nicholas and Hunter were strong, psycho, obsessive, and kinky. Hunter loved to chase and Sally was his perfect prey. Tamryn left Nicholas when they were young but when Nicholas gets her back he ain’t letting her leave again. Both these couples were fun to read about. These are both novellas so they were short. I really wish these were longer! I want more of these two couples
Both these stories had good plot lines and spice. I am a sucker for a morally grey, obsessive, touch her and die vibes MMC. Nicholas and Hunter checked all those boxes. Sally and Tamryn were perfect for their respective Reed twin. I highly recommend The Sons of Shadowvale if you want two short, spicy, and dark romances!!
This is like dark thriller romance lite. The idea of the mmcs and their whole backstory, awesome. The tired obsession and smut equals love being the entirety of the books really knocked all the stars off for me.
I would have loved if this leaned into the backstory, embraced darkness in a show not tell way, and really grew the fmcs and mmcs characters.
But this was just super basic and even the smut wasn’t anything to really keep your attention.
I DNF this book about half way just because I didn’t want to read the other brothers life … I know that might sound bad but the brothers telling was around Christmas and I wanted to read books that was Halloween themed. And personally the first brother was more of the type of ‘ book boyfriend’ that I wanted to read.
I have read books that are more twisted and shocking but this one was a nice middle ground. Loved the book that showed two different brothers and their love stories. It was dark and twisted but not so shocking that I wouldn’t recommend it. Would definitely read other books by this author.
This is a unique story I would definitely reread this story, currently on the second book now Hunter, stalker ...killer sweet Sally..or his little doe .. lol you can find love in strange places , coffee bar ..or maybe a cemetery . For these two ..something about being chased at night in heels and a white dress just makes you horney... Great book .

Both stories are really good!! I loved them! But the writing is a bit rough at times and sone of the sentences didn’t make sense or work. But the books are still very good.
It took me a little longer to read this than I thought it would, but over all its a book that I definitely fell in love with. It's a perfect book for any dark romance girly that wants a holiday page turner to get you in a festive mood
I didn't know what to expect from this book and I enjoyed it, I enjoyed Hunter's story more but Nicholas was interesting as well. definitely worth a read.
