Christmas On Stardust Lane

Rate this book
A scarred ex-biker with a hardened soul. The hot new nurse in town guarding his own bruised heart.

Tam Dubois is used to being alone. With a body that bears the marks of his mistakes, he’s grown to like it. But scratching out a living with pen and ink is tough, the numbers don’t work, and the only solution he can think of gives him the opposite of Christmas cheer.

A lodger.

It’s the last thing he wants, but like most things in life, it happens anyway, and the stranger he’s so keen to avoid turns out not to be a stranger at all,

It’s him.

Tam can’t believe it--and he doesn’t want to. But matters of the heart don’t play by the rules, and as Christmas approaches, love might just prove the greatest gift of all…

If they’re brave enough to unwrap it.

Christmas On Stardust Lane is a steamy, angsty MM holiday romance. Expect: forced proximity, hurt/comfort, and a chaotic canine with a bad case of little dog syndrome. If you love MM romance, holiday love stories, and the magic of two damaged hearts finding their way, Christmas on Stardust Lane delivers the perfect festive read.

4.5 stars rounded up. Okay but like, this was such a satisfying little romance and I really loved Bhodi and Tam’s story, and I think that these two have climbed pretty close to the top of my list of my fave GL couples.

There is something so entertaining about Bhodi and Tam entering into a friendship and then a no strings casual situationship, with both of them saying how they don’t do relationships, and yet both also having appallingly bad track records with keeping things casual lol. That being said I really enjoyed the flirtation between them while they tried to resist their attraction to each other and their dynamic and chemistry when they eventually got together was hot.

I did have a little moment where I did a little scream realising that I recognised Bhodi as Skylars ex-situationship from Just This Once and it was lovely to see him find someone who can provide him the unconditional love that he was so desperate for (and I enjoyed Skylar’s story but lets be real, Tam is a much better fit for him than Skylar would have ever been).

Again, this is on the shorter side, so I would say this is more a medium boil romance than a slow burn, but definitely more tension than in the first in this series Christmas on Firefly Hill, which was very ‘love at first sight’.

I think that its a little bit cheeky that these books seem to be marketed as Christmas romances because its really more that they are romances that occur at Christmas time and they dont really have any sort of major seasonal vibes to them (which is thankfully ideal for me).

Honestly, I could have read a book about these two that was twice as long and still had a fantastic time. Love-starved little cuties.

That was excellent, even though the story is quite simple. Little melodrama, little angst, slow burn, little cheesy and also little Christmassy. These may be things that work against the book, but if you put firstly the author's wonderful words and then secondly the focus on the characters' emotions, then this book is perfect. For me anyway.
I thought it was a great fit for a time of year when you can reflect on yourself and your loved ones, because despite all the pain that Tam and Bhodi carry within them, they find something unique in each other that complements them and gives the whole book such a peaceful vibe.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining it properly, but I feel ready for Christmas after reading this book, even if the Christmas season only plays a tiny part in it.
I really like how Tam and Bhodi dance around each other, the attraction grows more and more and yet they try to remain friends, very amusing. And the sex scenes are perfect on point.
However, the development of the two on an emotional level is my very favorite part of this story.

Too fast. Too soon. But goddamn, I feel like I’ve been waiting on this moment my whole fucking life. This is deeper than an ill-advised hookup. Even if we never touch each other again, my heart already knows that no one will ever live up to him. 💞🫠💞

Aaaaand it’s also funny.

So the answer to my earlier question is a resounding yes. Apparently Tam Dubois gets hotter by the second. A tattooed, dog-rescuing man who can cook. Like, did Mother Nature reach into my head and pluck out my wildest fantasies? It’s the only explanation I can think of.

“Let me light the fire and I’ll show you.” I swear to god, if he starts chopping wood, I’m done. I’m dust on the floor. Sweep me up and chuck me in the wind.
🤭🪓🤭

I need to get a grip.
To give something back.
Bhodi must read it in my eyes. He shakes his head. “Let me.”
Let him what? Kill me?
Okay.
🤭😍🤭

Also, I still haven't read the Rebel Kings series, I need to finally stick my head in there, but this one totally works without prior knowledge.

Christmas On Stardust Lane is a stand alone, MM, holiday romance by Garrett Leigh. This book is one of my favorites of my holiday books so far this year. In true Garrett Leigh fashion, she had me swooning all the way through. I need to beg to differ with her description in the blurb. She calls it angsty and I didn’t think it was at all. There was a part towards the end that was emotional but believe me when I say that I’m allergic to angst. These two men were in absolute awe of each other from the start. And I felt it all the way from my head to my toes.

Tam Dubois used to be a Rebel King years ago. But has been on his own for the past six years, eeking out a living as best he can but not making ends meet. His brother convinces him to take on a tenant in his little cottage out back. Tam is an introvert and wants nothing to do with seeing someone on his property daily. So he complies with the stipulation that they never see each other.

Bhodi Jones’s heart has been hurt. So he’s sworn off relationships. Moving to the new job was a way to clear his head and start fresh.

As soon as these two do see each other, though, all the rules fly out the window. Tam feels the need to somehow care for Bhodi. To make his day easier. The chemistry is evident from the start. But both agree, they need a friend more than they need anything else. But they still can’t seem to stop the flirting. And the bond between them deepens.

“A tattooed, dog-rescuing man who can cook. Like, did Mother Nature reach into my head and pluck out my wildest fantasies?”

With the alternating point of views, we are able to get in to the heads of these two beautiful men. They were both just overwhelmed with the other. My heart was bursting with happiness. Did they have a few bumps along the way before they finally admitted to their feelings? Yes they did! But the journey was so worth it. This book was just wonderful from the start to the end. Garrett Leigh is one of my favorite authors. I’ve read all of her Christmas books and loved them all but I think this is my favorite. Or maybe I said that before! In any event, you don’t want to miss this one.

Unequivocally, my favourite M/M holiday romance of 2024.

Christmas On Stardust Lane is an exquisitely written, poignant love story, beautifully weaving themes of past heartbreak and physical trauma into a warm and enriching tale hope and healing, featuring two lonely men fatefully finding each other over the holidays.

This is essentially a strangers-to-friends-to-lovers story, featuring an idyllic close proximity trope and plenty of perfectly executed hurt-comfort goodness.

I ADORED Tam and Bodhi, and if I wasn’t so busy this month—NOT being able to read nearly as much as I usually would because of the hecticness of life over the holidays—I would drop everything to re-read this gorgeous story in a hot minute.

Perfect start to my Christmas reads! Swoony but with a little edge. No holiday cheesiness. Real life vibes. Love how fully fleshed out this was for a quick Christmas read - felt like a complete story with solid relationship building. Interesting characters, an ex biker calligrapher and a critical care nurse.

This book has the most accurate description of shift work eating habits I’ve ever read:

“I have food,” I clarify, though his immediate concern is cute. “Just nothing I want to eat after a run of night shifts. I need something hot—like a cuddle on a plate, you know?”

I’ve been interested in Tam since meeting him in the Rebel Kings Every Missing Moment Vol 2 and he didn’t disappoint - can easily be read as a standalone though. Can’t wait for Skylar’s story and also keen for Sab’s.

2,5 stars (rounded up because... I don't even know why, but rounding down to 2 stars feel too harsh).

I wanted to love this, everybody seems to love it, so I was stubborn and forced myself through it, even though I had a hard time with the author's writing style.
It took me way too long to overlook the writing and follow the story without being annoyed by the writing (until about 40%).
Once I got over that I enjoyed the story more, but there were things that kept me from really liking it, until I was again more annoyed than pleased with the book:
-the ott feelings.. "no man will ever be able to make me feel like he does!!" (after their second kiss),
-the lack of chemistry,
-Tam's character wasn't very appealing to me, nearly stalking Bhodi for the longest time, once even reprimanding him when he's been out longer on a run than Tam had thought he would be?
-I didn't like Bhodi that much, either, tbh. Both MCs felt like stereotypes, nothing more.
-the constant "this can't go anywhere because he's my landlord/tenant!!",

The writing is a mix between simple/bland and pretentious:

"He (Tam's brother) leaves on that note. I watch him drive away with a lump in my throat, but it’s an affliction I’ll have to live with until I see him again. The van disappears. I wait until I can’t hear the engine anymore, then I slowly spin round and find myself face-to-face with the one soul on this earth who can soothe the worry building in my heart for my brother."

Meh.

Loved this! I was so keen to get Tam's story as soon as he popped up in a scene with River in Every Missing Moment Vol 2 from the Rebel Kings series. If you like a Christmas story that doesn't go all in on the cheesy feel good factor but deals with real life scenarios, this is definitely for you!

Tam is exactly what I expect of a Garrett Leigh character - strong, knows his mind, evasive maneuvers expert... Loved him straight away, plus he does calligraphy and that was so interesting because I don't think I've ever read a book where that was someone's job. It's made me want to get my pens out and have a practice!

Bhodi was making my heart hurt from the very beginning - his sadness over the Skylar situation made me want to give him a giant hug! I also wanted to make him sit down and tell his boss to fuck off and give him a bloody break already 😂😂 I loved how he found his person, and I would happily read more about Bhodi and Tam.

Also, I spent forever thinking I'd seen Sab's name somewhere before - I dunno if I have or if he's never been mentioned before, but every new Garrett Leigh book makes me want to draw some kind of diagram for how everyone links together! I am happy that Sab will be getting his story told next Christmas though.

I really love how the Christmas stories are expanding and they're more embedded in the wider Garrett Leigh story universe, plus the mentions of Firefly hill, Logan and Remi were nice little easter eggs! I'm now back to impatiently waiting for Skylar to finally get his story.

*****

Meh. I don't know what all the fuss is about.

This is a typical Garrett Leigh novel: two damaged MCs, one who lives with chronic pain, saving each other.

Throw in some snow (which is the only ode to Christmas - no holiday joy otherwise) and a yappy little dog with the attitude of a German shepherd (Rudy was my favorite character), and there you have it.

This is a relationship-driven story, so I didn't expect much plot, but for the longest time absolutely nothing happened. I was bored to tears. Then when the drama came, it was all about Tam's brother and his baby, which okay, but I don't care.

I also could have done without the repetitive descriptions of how hot both men are. There's a lot of telling via internal monologue that did nothing to make me feel that spark between Bhodi and Tam.

Leigh's writing style is an odd blend of mundane and lofty. I ended up skimming the last few chapters because I couldn't take any more tortured conversations or swearing in French.

This book was such a low-key, romantic and soft story. Tam and Bodhi were adorable, and even their silly miscommunication was solved quickly and efficiently. Can't wait to read Sab's book next, he also deserves a HEA!

All them stars and a few more on top!

I love it when Garrett writes swoony, as she tends to do with her Christmas romances, even though there's always a sharp edge you need to be wary of.

Here, it's outside forces that bring the necessary elements of realness to prevent everything turning into too much saccharine, and it works well to ground the story in its realness.

Bhodi is a critical care nurse, after all, and they tend to bear the brunt of the sharpest end of the NHS's services and while most references to that aspect are fleeting, they serve as a reminder that we only get one life.

Tam, on the other hand, left the road behind him after an accident nearly killed him, and he's been quietly living his life as a calligrapher when his brother persuades him he needs a lodger to help with the downtime between commissions.

I won't go into details, but I loved watching these two bruised souls find healing firstly just in each other's company, but then as they start catching feelings and things step up a gear.

They're smoking hot together, but what makes things special is how they provide a comfort and a home for each other without even realising they're doing it.

Their relationship development is organic, seamlessly moving from attraction to physical to emotional.

I'm stoked to hear Sab, Tam's brother, will be getting his book and I'm crossing fingers it might be with a certain firefighter who gets a brief, heartstopping moment in this book.

It works as a standalone, but you'll get a richer experience if you've read any of Garrett's Rebel Kings series or if you've read her previous Christmas on Firefly Hill.

I was very happy to get back to this corner of Herefordshire for Christmas.

#ARC kindly received from the author via GRR Tours, I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tam prefers being alone, but when money gets too tight he's forced to take on a lodger to help cover rent and plans to avoid his new tenant for the duration of his six month lease.

That idea goes up in smoke the minute he meets Bhodi. Both men have been burned in the past, and despite the instant chemistry between them, the two are hesitant to fuck up their budding friendship.

As Tam and Bhodi grow closer, their feelings for each other are getting harder to resist, and soon the lines between friendship and more begin to blur.

Honestly, these two were absolutely precious! Their story was a tad bit angsty, but also incredibly sweet. I loved that these two tried to resist each other and the chemistry between them to build a healthy solid friendship before they boned instead of just diving into it.

This was the least traditionally festive Christmas story I’ve ever read and I couldn’t have loved it more.
Real, complex men with complicated pasts, unbelievable, swoonworthy chemistry, relatable conflicts, great relationship development all tied up in a Christmassy bow.
I haven’t read any of the books the author cross references in this one, but that didn’t take away from the story at all. So I’d say this can easily be read as a stand alone.

My fav holiday read so far!

4,5 ⭐️ and only because there were quite a few continuity and editing issues that threw me sometimes.

ARC REVIEW
Look, I just love everythign Garrett Leigh writes. Her prose is gritty, her characters are nuanced and hardened and they go through IT, but there's always true deep feelings and beauty. Bodhi broke my heart a bit, with his Skylar "trauma" and his work situation. And Tam was strong and a resilient. I really liked how calligraphy helped him.
I enjoyed their relationship, it's slow burn (as much as it can be in a novella) even when they are initially attracted to one another: becoming friends, helping each other heal in that awesomely soft way, kind of fighting their feelings, and then *swoon*. Garrett doesn't do much to avoid the realness, even when it's mostly a sweet romance, they become each other's safe haven, and I love that so much.
Extra points for Sab and Tam's relationship. Extra extra points for characters that love to cook.
I am such a fan of the Rebel Kings, having this little side story just makes me love this universe more.

4.5 - this was the perfect length for a holiday read. We get more substance and character/relationship building but not overwhelmed with extraneous details. The pacing was perfect. This wasn't so much of a festive holiday read as it was a story that took place during Nov/Dec. I really didn't mind since we at least got some cozy weather romance time.

Bhodi and Tam were both holding on to some baggage from previous relationships and struggled with the idea of letting someone new in. I really liked how they tried to be friends but couldn't escape the need for a passionate kiss or two. Obviously they couldn't resist the pull to each other and it really felt organic and natural. The love confessions were perfect!

This was low angst but so deliciously emotional. Plus we got a little nuisance of dog but tiny and cute.

Garret Leigh’s Christmas books just feel like a tight hug, or sitting by a fire with a big blanket. This wasn’t quite as magical as Christmas on Firefly Hill (in my opinion), but I still lived every minute.

Loved this slightly angsty M/M holiday romance that completely delivered. Garrett Leigh is one of my favorite authors, and once again she crafted a story that is both deeply touching and wonderfully heartwarming while still tugging at the heartstrings. Tam and Bodhi are beautifully written characters, each carrying the scars of past relationships where they cared more than they received. That shared hurt makes them cautious—not just about love, but even about friendship. What begins as a tentative connection slowly grows into something more, and watching their attraction evolve into trust and love is the heart of this story. I truly loved their journey and couldn’t have asked for a more perfect holiday romance. Highly recommended to all fans of holiday romance 💞

It's been a while since I grabbed a Garrett Leigh read and once again, I have to wonder why... I love the depth of each character, the unexpected little surprises in the read and of course the angst and hurt/comfort nature of the story. I love that it's not an instalove story and that there's friction as they get to know each other and their histories reveal pieces of their personalities and the impact on their everyday lives.

Since I haven't read the Rebel Kings series, I can honestly say this book can easily be read standalone and while some who may have read other stories from this author may get some gifts, the story wasn't impacted by not having this history.

Well my search for a new 5-star Christmas romance might just have to end here for this year. There was very little Christmas, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I was also missing two key ingredients: understanding why the two MCs fall in love and also understanding what keeps them apart. Even so, an enjoyable read!

One of the things I always enjoy about Garrett Leigh’s Christmas books is that she delivers a story that feels ‘seasonally appropriate’ with all the feels and vibes you’d associate with the time of year, without going big on the schmalz and syrup that characterises so many Christmas romances. This year’s Christmas on Stardust Lane is no exception, and we’re introduced to Tam and Bhodi, two men whose instinct for emotional self-preservation has left them both more than a little lonely – and who might just find that most special of gifts in each other.

The last thing grumpy ex-biker Tam Dubois wants to do is to rent out the small annexe he’d been using as his art studio, but his work as a freelance calligrapher isn’t bringing in enough to pay the mortgage on the house and he has no other way to drum up extra cash. Accepting the need to do it doesn’t mean he has to be happy about it, and at least with the way things are set up – the annexe has a separate entrance and a lock-box for the keys – he won’t actually have to see or speak to the guy who’s taken the place on a six month lease. When the story begins, he’s just endured another well-meaning ear-bashing from his brother Sab on the subject; well he listened with half an ear while trying to find something in the attic. When his search proves fruitless, and cursing at having cleared out his studio for a tenant he doesn’t even want, he trudges out to the garage, which is filled with stuff - piles of wood, scrap metal and motorbike parts – from his old life he never got around to getting rid of. The good thing – the box he’s looking for is in there; the not so good thing – it’s stuck behind a vast stack of unfinished worktops which doesn’t look too steady. And it isn’t, as Tam finds out to his cost.

Critical care nurse Bhodi Jones has relocated from Cornwall following a break-up that has left him battling insecurities. He can’t blame his ex; he made it clear from the start that all he wanted was some no strings sex, but Bhodi had to go and catch feelings, and given his usual MO is to get going when the going gets tough, he’s starting over somewhere new for the umpteenth time. He’s just arrived at the hospital to start his new job on the night shift in the HDU (High Dependency Unit) when he notices a man hovering around the entrance to A&E. He appears to have injured his arm, but instead of going inside, he turns around and heads back to the car park; and even though Bhodi is running a bit late, he goes to make sure the man – who he can’t fail to notice is bloody gorgeous – is okay. He insists he’s fine (he clearly isn’t) but Bhodi can’t force him inside and they go their separate ways.

When Bhodi rolls up at his new place the following morning, all he wants is to faceplant into bed. As he’s letting himself in, he hears frenzied barking just before a small dog crashes through the fence that separates the annexe from the main house and starts jumping up at him in excitement. As Bhodi crouches down to say hello, he hears rapid footsteps and a litany of French and English curses coming closer, then looks up to see two long legs clad in jeans and biker boots… and further up to tattoed arms, one of them clasped closely to a strong chest. It’s the guy from last night at the hospital. And this time, Bhodi isn’t going to let him get out of getting that arm looked at.

As the days pass, and despite his intention to keep himself to himself, Tam’s interest has been piqued and he can’t help thinking about Bhodi and wanting to know more about him. He tries hard not to feel that way – Tam swore off relationships long ago – but something about Bhodi has captivated him, something beyond his good-looks and weary good humour. If he believed in that sort of thing any more, he’d say it was le coup de foudre… but he doesn’t, so it can’t be. And Bhodi has made it clear he’s not up for anything more than friendship anyway. Which is fine by Tam. He could use a good friend.

Dinner and hanging out gradually becomes a regular thing and Tam and Bhodi spend quite a bit of their down-time together and growing closer as they get to know each other better and do small things to make each other’s lives easier and/or more comfortable. Their mutual attraction might have been instant, but the author takes time to develop an actual relationship between them; they both acknowledge the attraction and are upfront about their desire for each other, but also about their reasons for not taking things in that direction. Bhodi knows he can become too invested too quickly and is wary of reading more into what’s happening between him and Tam than there is, and Tam has had his heart broken one too many times to want it to happen again. They try hard not to fall for each other, but the author does a terrific job of showing them doing exactly that; they have chemistry at sheet-burning levels, but the strong emotional connection they share is evident long before they jump into bed together and it’s clear that what they have is forever material – they just have to be brave enough to reach for it.

There’s not a great deal of conflict here; this is mostly a story about two people figuring out how to move forward together and get past their mis-steps. At times, the language used to describe feelings can feel overblown, and Bhodi’s freak out near the end feels a bit over the top, but the two of them talk through things like adults, which I always appreciate. I liked that Tam and Bhodi are both regular guys with unglamorous jobs who juggle long hours, family dynamics, money worries and general life stuff, just as we all do, and the relationship between Tam and Sab (who is getting his own book next year) is really well written.

Christmas on Stardust Lane (what great street names this town has!) is a warm and heartfelt romance with enough Christmas magic and seasonal good cheer to bring the warm fuzzies on the coldest of days.

3.5 stars: It took me quite a while to get into this story. About 1/2 way through it picked up for me. Even though I’ve read that this is connected to the Rebel Kings MC series, it’s only in the periphery. You learn that Tam is an ex-Rebel King and that’s about it. There are some fun little Easter egg references that you could pick up on if you’re familiar with other Garrett Leigh stories, but it’s nothing that anyone would be scratching their heads over. I’d say it’s a complete standalone. The sex scenes were good except for the masturbation scene. I’m not a fan and don’t like them in books.

I liked the way Tam and Bhodi’s relationship developed, but I was not thrilled about how much Bhodi was in his own head about stuff. Overall, I enjoyed the story and wouldn’t mind seeing these characters in other books and spending some more time with them.

I loved this! The characters, the vibes, the setting, the feelings, all of it.
There's insta connection but also slow burn, Tam and Bhodi are friends first and lovers later, they live close but they don't see each other all the time, they both have a lot of baggage and hurt from the past, but they love deeply despite everything.
Garrett Leigh is so good at describing feelings and I loved how Bhodi and Tam were irrevocably attracted to each other, not only phisically, but especially emotionally, it was like they couldn't breathe if they were distant: in the whole story there's always this primal need to touch one another, like they craved to be reassured that the other wasn't going anywhere.

This story is interconnected with the Rebel Kings MC world: Tam lives in the same city as Logan and Remi and he knows River (I need to catch up with the chapter in Every Missing Moments 2 when h makes an appearance), while Bhodi used to work with Skylar and he also treated Embry.
About Skylar: in Every Missing Moments 2 there's the scene when Bhodi tells him he's moving away and Skylar thinks "I don't care. I wish I did". But in this book he makes a phone call to Bhodi, claiming he cared about Bhodi and that he wanted for them to be friends: honestly what was the point for that? They've never hang out together, they've never talked, why waiting for Bhodi to move away to seek a friendship with him? He gave me the impression that he was a little jealous Bhodi could finally find something more elsewhere. We'll see when Skylar's story will come out.

I'm so happy the author will give Sab (and his precious little girl) his own story too.
And since it's impossible to move in this wonderful town with this magic street names, I have to settle for rereading this and Christmas on Firefly Hill soon.

I received an ARC of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

Christmas on Stardust Lane by Garrett Leigh is a connected story to the Rebel Kings MC series. It is a standalone as I have not read the series and still was able to fully enjoy this one. I loved Tam and Bhodi so much. Both of them had been hurt by circumstances which made them hesitant to open themselves up to the possibilities of love. Their lack of communication at the end drove me nuts though- lol. These two were so crazy in love, but neither one wanted to be the first to admit it. It almost cost them something good. I adored Sab and Esme and I cannot wait to read his story (though next Christmas seems too far away). Tam and Bhodi were hot and sweet and the ending made me so happy.

❤️A gorgeous book to read as I knew it would be written by this author.
Tam was struggling to keep his house mortgage payments that his annoying brother suggested a border.

Bhodi was a nurse about to start working in a new hospital whod hooked up a place without seeing it.
A great first brief meeting between the characters as Tam is stubborn about going to hospital for his arm.
This is an enjoyable story for two friends/ landlord tenant to break a few self imposed rules on themselves.
I loved the angst that they both feel with the complications in their situation despite both wanting each other. Bhodi is a nurse dead on his feet who works way too much in this, a good thing he has a “friend” to care.
Damm near the ending I had my heart beat on hold as a big drama happens but it turns out okay in the ending. A fantastic book to read.

I am officially addicted to Garrett Leigh with this one more tender, love story. Bodhi is newly hired and overworked as a nurse. He is renting an annex place to live from Tam, a very talented calligrapher who needs the money. They start out as roommate and landlord. Tam is French and was in a terrible motorcycle accident. Their story is finding out who you can trust and open up to, and who has your back.
