The book provides tips, lists and actionable suggestions in a condensed read which is exactly what a new mum needs. More than that it's a friend by your side that understands what you are going through. New mums have neither the time nor the energy to complain, explain or alter schedules, living spaces, etc. The book provides doable self-care items to keep new mums afloat and fortified. It's a book to actively bookmark, annotate and dog-ear. The 'brain-dump' questions at the beginning of the book will release stuff you didn't know you were holding.
This book was okay. The overall message was great with constant reminders that self-care is not selfish. However, there were few if any revelations and it was all pretty obvious—eat nutritious food, get enough sleep and rest, exercise, meditate or find other ways of caring for your mental health, nurture supportive relationships, bond with baby, be grateful, get outdoors…duh? I ended up skimming some sections. For such a short volume, it got kind of verbose.
This book was heartwarming and helpful at the same time. It is like it said - a genuine friend on your side to navigate the tough journey of being a mother. It is written with a lot of compassion and heart and it resonated very well with me, as I am sure it will with others too. Very practical, insightful and yet interesting!
