Immediately following the French Vichy Government's armistice with Hitler in July 1940, a group of handpicked German soldier musicians is billeted in the west wing of prestigious Chateau de Lazarin in southern unoccupied France, to create a 'cultural presence.' The de Lazarin family are deeply affronted by this invasion of their chateau, but when Catherine their beautiful daughter, meets Major Freddy von Langdorf there is an immediate mutual attraction, powerful and obvious. There is no logic in love, no rationale. They are enemies. They know their relationship can only be fraught with danger.
Catherine, half way through her abandoned medical degree is involved in the Resistance through her cousin Max, who is working with Jean Moulin, a Resistance leader.
The pugilistic SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Muller, already known to the young Major, arrives in the south of France with the complete Nazi take-over of the country; a brute with swaggering fanaticism who hates Freddy and his privileged class as vehemently as he does Jews and the Resistance. Extracting confessions from victims through torture is his speciality, and insists that Major von Langdorf is his interpreter during these obscene interrogations. High in the Cevennes, Catherine is working in a makeshift Resistance hospital. Freddy passes vital information to her for the Resistance, creating a perilous situation for both of them.
Muller certainly knows something. But how much and what?
A sadist, who twists the knife slowly before striking, he is out for blood.

About the Author
Elizabeth Morgan started off as a teacher of English and Drama but quickly went into show biz where she has remained as actor writer and frequently director in the UK and in France. During the years with the BBC Drama Repertory Company performing hundreds of dramas, poetry and short story readings, Books at Bedtime and Woman's Hour serials she began writing plays and has written over two dozen for Radio 4, and several for the stage and television. Television roles include 'Dick Emery' shows, serials 'We are Seven' 'The old Devils' 'The two of us' 'Mapp and Lucia' 'To have and to hold' 'Grand Slam' 'Are you being served?' She was a TV presenter for two years and she performed her two one woman plays on radio, television and in theatre including the National Theatre. She toured with both in America performing at major Universities, the Library of Congress, and the British Embassy Washington DC. Radio comedy includes 'Dad's Army' 'Ronnie Corbett Show' 'Big Business Lark'. She has provided voices for scores of commercials and animations including Angel voices in 'Captain Scarlet' and for major films including 'Emmanuelle' movies. She has written two books about France 'Can We Afford the Bidet.'(Q.Anne Press) 'Life Style French Style' (How To Books) and short stories published in collections. She covered the Cannes Film Festival for a newspaper, interviewing glitterati and writing articles for leading magazines. During the past two years she has written two stage comedies. She has taught in leading Drama academies in London Kent and York and was a regular guest lecturer in Creative Writing at Brighton University. Her year is divided between France and Cardiff.
