This is defiantly an interesting book, it starts of a little on the slow side, but things start to really pick up a few chapters in. I really liked the way the planet Paphos was described. It comes across as really mysterious, to the point were I actually would have liked to visit the place. Though that thought didn't hold long for me when things really started moving.

The story is told from a couple different point of views, mainly switching back and forth between Austin and Carolina, his daughter. This is done pretty well at some points, but sometimes it switches with out much warning. It wasn't to hard to figure out who's head you were in when it did this, but it is kinda a pet peeve of mine when point of view shift happen without warning.

The characters are a little on the flat side, you don't really get to know anyone really well before the book ends. But from the sound of things the only people that really matter are Carolina and Austin and they both pretty much act how you would think an 11 year old and her father would. I had a hard time keep track of who was who because everyone else seemed pretty much the same, well other then Dmitry. Dmitry is someone that you keep an eye one cause your not quite sure what he is going to do next.

Other then that the story is very good, if a little rough around the edges. You have a group of people exploring a new planet when they stumble upon a building. There is some kind of alien present that is there to add an element of danger to everything. The exploration of the building is exciting because you don't know what they are going to find and you want to know what is in it just as much as they do, and on top of everything the tension of not everyone being on board with what is happening.

Everything kind of cuts of pretty abruptly, but since this is only part one I suspect that it will pick up right where it left off with part two. I'm very curious as to what is going on with Carolina, and how everything will work out for the crew of people.

I really couldn't figure out if I wanted to rate this 3 or 4 starts but I finally settled on 4 because even though it could use a little work it really kept my attention and had me wanting to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. The author has talent, with a little more work I can see the rest of the series being something great.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, if you are looking for a quick and easy read this is something worth picking up.

N.R. Burnette once told me that I didn't have to like everything he wrote. Gotta say, I'm still waiting to read something from him that I dislike.

This is a great story so far and really sucks the reader into that "what the hell is going on and what's going to happen next?" frame of mind.

A book that makes the reader WANT to read is a wonderful thing. Paphos 1 did just that for me.

Now it's on to Paphos 2....

This author reminds me of Stephen King, Frank Peretti, and other authors. Each book leaves you wanting more. It will have you up late trying to figure out what will happen. Each book has a different ending leading to the next book. Wonderfully written.
