Taking Charge

Rate this book
Joy moved in to town to take up her position at the school as the Principal. She was sure she was going to have a lot of uphill from the townsfolk. There were many changes that would have to be made at the school. Would she be able to win the parents and pupils over? As far as her looks, Joy knew she was totally different to what everyone expected. She was young and full of life, outgoing, an extrovert, and a go getter. Would the parents accept her as the new Principal? The first day that Joy was in town she met Jordan. She hadn’t planned on falling in love but it happened so fast. The way Jordan sang to her and looked at her sent Joy’s pulse racing. Jordan was drawn to Joy. There was something about her that grabbed his attention. Everything was about to change for both Jordan and Joy. Her presence made a huge impact on the townsfolk. It was the little things that she did that made a huge difference. Not only did the pupils benefit but so did every single person in town.

OH BOY!

Firstly let me start off by saying I did not finish this book...in fact, I didn't even finish the first chapter.

As a result, I can't say much of anything about plot or characterisation. Although I have a suspicion that they'd be underdeveloped as well.

Instead this review is based solely on writing style/ability.

It's not good. In fact, it is down near impossible to read, I'm not opposed to the odd spelling error or a little bit of incorrect grammar usage but this...well there is absolutely no way this was professionally edited. If it was I speak directly to the author when I tell you to get your money back and hire someone else.

It is full of incomplete sentences that are way way way too short. In the couple of pages I did read, I discovered that the author must not have heard of a comma....because when I say she doesn't use them I'm saying that literally. There are NO commas what so ever.

Here's a chunk of text as proof:

The song ended and he looked at his band.
“Break?” They all shook their heads. They didn’t want to stop. Jordan nodded and smiled. Joy smiled.
“See you later alligator?” Jordan nodded. They sang together. He knew every word as well as she did. She stood and sang on the stage. There was no stage fright. He knew she was comfortable on the stage.

I actually couldn't read it.

Aside from that, there are a few odd word choices that just didn't make sense in their context, making the overall reading experience a struggle.

For $4.60 readers at least deserve to have a book that's been edited.

That's my opinion at least, although the other reviews seem to be raving about this one, so what the hell do I know?

If you are looking for something different to read this certainly is the book. Joy is quite a character. A school Principal with a difference! Jordan on the other hand is your shy guy. The owner of a pub. Put the two together and you have quite a combination. Joy is prepared for a bit of a battle when she takes over at the school. But that is not the way it happens. The things she does actually impact on more than the scholars at the school. In a positive way. This is a very lively novel. I was hooked from the very first page! Fun all the way through!

This novel made me realize that one person can make a big difference. As the new Principal in town, Joy was such an inspiration. I loved the way Joy was introduced right at the beginning. There is such a flurry of activity that you are immediately swept up in the book. The characters are super! They are full of life and full of fun. This is not any ordinary little book. It makes you think and wonder. Following every little move that Joy made I became so drawn in. It made me realize that it is the tiny things that you do that really matter. With Jordan’s support, Joy made an even bigger impact. Both main characters met with my approval! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Oh dear, I don't think there is much positive to say about this book, except maybe that I like Joy - she is a positive, strong and within the confines of the town in the story, an influencial person. All I can say about the story is that it is a romance practically from the first page to the last.

Awesome!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end! The title is so fitting to the character. She had to take charge. And she did! I love a strong female character in a storyline and she certainly lived up to my expectations. Joy is just that! This author has a lovely style of writing and she leaves you with a feel good factor. The story is original and the characters are a whole lot of fun. The banter is very refreshing. I would definitely recommend this book! *I received a free copy for a fair and honest review*

"Taking Charge" by Bridgitte Lesley is a lovely, cheerful book about a new school principle who stirrs up the town in a good way. Young, fresh and full of life she surprises people with her many talents, most notably her singing.
A very happy and enjoyable romantic read with some lovely characters and a sweet story line. Great fun.

Taking charge sees Joy move to a new town. She shakes the locals up with her fresh outlook, both professionally and personally. She has talent, she has style and I found her upbeat character very refreshing. She is not the only star in this book, however, as all the protagonists gave this sweet story, a good feel vibe.

The writing is smooth with easy banter that flowed throughout the book, enabling me to read it rather quickly.
A highly recommendable book by a very good author.
