Caroline Hanson

Caroline Hanson grew up in California and moved to London in order to dance and go to pubs. Eventually, she matured enough to marry and imported an Englishman, returning to the United States.

After passing the bar, she had two children and now tries to parent, read, write and play tennis. She's heard rumors that other mothers clean and cook but is putting in serious effort to make sure those rumors don't reach her family.

Caroline grew up listening to Brit pop and reading about vampires. As a teenager her favorite authors were Anne Rice and Jude Deveraux. Now she loves Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Laura Kinsale, Lisa Kleypas, Loretta Chase, Nalini Singh and JR Ward-- that's the short list.

She is also the proud owner of a WWJD t-shirt, (What Would Joss do?) which she hopes is apparent in her books.

She loves to hear from fans and her second book in the Valerie Dearborn Series, Love is Fear, will be published in December 2011.

A free short story called Bewitching the Werewolf was released in September on Smashwords.

Now who doesn't love free books? Bewitching the Werewolf is one of the countless number of free eBooks that Amazon.com has to offer. I still get amazed that there are such things are free stuff, especially books. LOL.

Bewitching the Werewolf is a short story (about 40+ pages) offered to us by Caroline Hanson. The story was enjoyable and delivered some funny dialogue from our main character Megan. Now although I did know going into this book that it would be a short story I was hoping it would have been a little bit longer than the 40+ pages. I think that Hanson could have worked in a little more into the story to really develop the plot. It sort of just felt like a one night stand. Megan went in for her assignment and then wham, bam thank you Ma'am we got the clothes coming off. Maybe some more added tension between Megan and Zack would have worked a little better. We've got the single wolf, a mother who's desperate to get him mated and our funny little witch who is more than ready to bail out on her assignment; throw in some other feisty female werewolves and you've got a making for a good book.

Have you ever read a book that was so good, you just had to read everything written by that author? That was Love and Darkness for me. After reading it, I felt oddly bereft, and cheated by the fact that Caroline Hanson is a new author, and we have to wait until December for the next book in her series. But lo and behold, she has a short story. YAY!

Bewitching the Wolf was exactly what I needed for a little Caroline Hanson fix. It’s a sexy little tale packed with dry humor and wit. In it, a talented witch is hired to deal with the local werewolf alpha’s little amorous “problem.” Basically the time for Zackary Connor to find his mate has come. He’s been given the ultimatum by his pack, but he’s not “up” to the task. Har har. And yeah, expect a ton of double entendres and sly witticisms in this short. I read the whole thing in one sitting with a great bit silly grin on my face, and plenty of laughing.

In addition to humor, this story packs a powerful romantic punch. There is a ton of animal magnetism flying around, and some seriously steamy scenes that will remind you why you adored Love in Darkness.

If you are looking for a nice quick, lighthearted romp through a paranormal romance, this short store is just what the doctor ordered. And if you’ve somehow stumbled onto this little gem without having read anything else by Carolyn Hanson, I strongly suggest you check out Love is Darkness as well.

Mon avis en français

My English review

It’s a very, very short novel, but I must admit I had a good time anyway.

Of course the story is not very complicated and we know perfectly well how everything is going to end: a witch who has to help a very sexy werewolf to find a mate. There’s not a lot of suspense, but it was very nice to read.

I can’t say much more, but it’s a good transition between readings.

While this book was free, it cost me time and I kind of wish I had that time back.

To be fair, this was a fun, lighthearted read. I liked the sassy, silky style of the narrative and the male lead was intriguing (if completely under developed). Sadly, it felt like a let down when I got to the end of the story and found there was absolutey no pay off for the build up I'd sexual tension. We didn't even get a fade to black we got an end, period.

I can look past the slap-dash fan fiction style of the writing, where virtually nothing is explained about this paranormal universe, and the use of the word 'core,' but this aburptly cutting this story short is a bullshit. Not to mention the fact this story ended only about 47% of ebook, the rest was a preview for one the author's books. Even that woukdn't have bothered me as much is this other book was at all related to Bewitching the Werewolf, but no. It's about an empath who gets seduced by a 1600 old vampire. No thank you.

What a waste of time.

This was a waste of time. besides the fact that it reads like bad fanfiction...the fact that the story is only like....three or four chapters long pissed me off. No character development or really even a plot. I mean yeah the book was free....but its not even an entire book. Just skip this one unless you're looking for a simply bad and short sex story.

Just for fun, Bewitching the Werewolf is quick, light and filled with cute dialogue and attitude! Not a major plot, witch is hired to find werewolf's mate or the pack may die off, werewolf senses mate...meddling mother wolf involved...the usual fare with a fun twist!

Caroline Hanson entertained from start to finish with her quirky witch and super hot wolf! A great quick escape that will leave you smirking.

This story begins when Megan is assied to the local werewolf pack to help find a mate for the alpha of the pack. See, she has some special abilities that should help him, but it all turns out to be a little bit more complicated when she actually does show up..

This was a very short funny story. It has werewolves, and a very sassy heroine. But it doesn't have much else to it. It was simple, and neat and tidy, but there really weren't a whole lot of emotions from it other than humor. I did enjoy the humor aspect of it, and it was nice for a short read.

I knew I was going to like this book when I went to the first page and read the very first line, "I don't get paid enough to deal with a werewolf that can't get laid". This was a short story, but full of fun, wit, and romance. I can see the potential for the author to expand on it to make more out of the story. Not too bad for a free read!

Apparently I liked it. But also didn't like it enough to get the Real Book. This is more like a prologue.

I don't remember much about it. And I think the 'Sex Scene' was more like a 'Prelude' than actual sex.

But I did give it 4 stars so who knows. I may be remembering wrong.

A really good little story I only wish it was longer as just started to get into it and then it was finished. I liked the authors style of writing and will definately look out for other books by her.

I really hate giving this book 2 stars. They synopsis of this book really drug me in. It sounds amazing and fantastic! Problem: the book is 52 pages long. If it would have been properly spaced out as most books are this probably would have went on my favorites shelf.

The writing was super fast and not that descriptive. I read this in like 20 minutes.. Again, I don’t wanna sound like I hate it... but gah! I wish was a full length book!🥺 It has so much potential!

I hope the author decides to revise and rewrite this into a full length book one day— I think it would be a best seller! The plot is so unique and amazing! I just wish the writing was a bit more crafted and was written into a full length book.

Two stars

Short and sweet story about a witch who is sent to cast a spell to find a werewolf's mate, but it's obvs that she's the one. Not life-altering, but cute.

Good short story...that's usually what everyone says about short stories. This was a new thing to me, werewolfs and witches that is. I just thought that they were enemies and all, but wow can they get along.

Story goes a lot like this: Witch lady is hired to cure Zack of his mate problem with her little hocus-pocus and she gets the wrong idea thinking he is impotent. Thing is the wolf part inside of him will always tell him who's his mate, problem is no werewolf out there makes his wolf go, "Hey, hey- There she is." That's where the witch comes into play, to pull off some hocus-pocus.

Throw in a couple of innuendos and rushed lust (didn't feel rushed to me though) and you've got a recipe for a witch-wolf couple. Pretty good for free. Pretty good for 99¢-if it was...

Not recommmended for those people who just can't help but love developed characters (I guess that accounts for me too)-but try it anyway 'cause it's freeeee! ;)

Have a good day everybody!

P.S. here's three books you might like:
Shaken and Stirred by Sable Jordan (totally not for everybody hint: might remind you of fifty shades of gray-no worries this is a good free short story from Amazon)
Shaken and Stirred

And (maybe you've heard about it by now):
Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead
Vampire Academy

And the spinoff of Vampire Academy:
Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead

Talk about a book i wished was longer! It was all THE END and i was all like NOO!

This book could have been 200 pages easy, but it came to an abrupt halt at about 63. The rest of the book was filled with a preview of another book.

Miss Stevens (She has no first name I can recall reading) is a wiccan (witches are soooooo 2007). She has a boss because apparently magic is for hire (magik? magick?). So Miss Stevens gets hired by an Grand Alpha Pack Master Poobah to help him find his one true mate. Zackery Connor (whenever i hear the last name of connor i always have to come up with lame Terminator jokes, i'll spare you this time), is having love problems and can't find a lady friend he wants to have and to hold til silver bullet do they part. Hes been whoring himself around a lot, so lets hope there aren't a few illegitimate puppies out there already.

Zack gets a headache and Miss Stevens goes to cure it. He gets all pissy for some reason, probably because she's all being a prude not putting out after touching him all over.

He leaves with out her to a fund raiser party (aww he's a philanthropist!) she was supposed to go to for some reason that doesn't make sense at all. She makes herself invisible (how much for that one?!) and goes anyway. For what actual purpose, who the hell knows. My guess is so she can chow on the shrimp cocktail and caviar, being a hired magician can't pay to well. The next day he shows up at the office declaring he found his mate...kinda. So they come up with the most brilliant plan to find her.

They pulled the fire alarm. No angsty teenager needed.

Who knows why he decided to pull the fire alarm and all the theatrics when he already knew she was his mate from day one. Seriously Zack. Seriously.

They can't wait to consummate their new eternity, so they settle for the car. Charming. Can't be too classy and wait the 20 min to get to the hotel room can we. He then explains the finer points of being his mate. THE END.

yeah it was like that. depressing. ugh! why wasn't this longer! Thats why it got 4 stars.

This book was short, very short but even so, it packed a whole helluva lot of punch into a small amount of pages! I grabbed a free copy of this over the weekend and the promo is still running and it’s definitely worth a read.

I looked at some of the reviews and there were a lot of complaints about the length and I can kind of understand it… but no way is it deserving of just the one star, because of how many pages it has. The book relied upon you having some general know-how about werewolves and witches but you wouldn’t be reading the genre if you didn’t, would you?

Zack is a hunk, Megan is snarky and with an attitude. For a short story, I felt like I came to know them quickly.

I would have liked more, so much more. It could have been a full length novel for me and I’m kind of sad it wasn’t. But at the same time, I prefer quality and this really did it for me. Thoroughly enjoyed it, wish the ending had been padded out more and while I’d have loved for the story to go on and on, I have to review what I read. Definitely 5 stars. Just downloaded another of Hanson’s books: Love Is Darkness. It’s a testament to how much I enjoyed it that I want to read more of her style! :)

This review was posted first at my book blog The Purple Booker

On to the review, I got this as a free book and honestly I am glad that it was free. The premise of this book is good, the idea and the basic components of something that should be a riveting read is all here. It just seems to have all gone sideways somehow. Like a perfectly prepared souffle that then just falls flat. The book is extremely short and all very slap dash put together honestly. You get no depth to the characters of the book, no real plot development and what little plot there is felt very convoluted. It felt like the author just did not know where to put ideas and thought they all needed to be shoved into the smallest shortest group of chapters possible.

I gave a two gem/star rating because the heroine was sassy and what development of her was there was enjoyable. I also gave it that extra star because I really did want to like it. I really wanted everything to come together in a fun fast read. You can of course try it for yourself and perhaps you will like it a bit better then I did.

All-in-all, this is a fun little story. I'm generally not a fan of first person narratives, but this one is well done. I wasn't thrilled that half of this "story" is a teaser for another of the author's books. A few leading paragraphs, fine, but a teaser as long as the short story? Too needy.

As well, there are a few typos and the grating habit of using Internetspeak in places. I'd be fine with that being the voice of the narrator were it consistent. Rather, the Internetspeak is random, making it a bit more work to read than it needs to be.

Hanson builds the story well, develops the characters well, and ends it right before it becomes too much. It's sexy without completely relying on sex to move the story. I wasn't thrilled with the trendy assumptions made about Wiccans all being witches, but there you go. She has a great feel for her story and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Halfway through the book, (teenage hormones, guh-reat..?) I realized this might be more of an "adult" novel, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, I suppose I enjoyed it(:

The best thing about this book is its readability. It moves quickly, has many, many shots of humor, and is a feisty & sexy read. I loved Megan's voice - it was strong, although it showed a realistic amount of fear. Moreover, the concept of hiring a witch to help a werewolf itself is pretty exciting and unique - more of a reason to read this book!

My only complaint was that it was too short D: I was hoping for a tad bit more. Only after a handful of chapters, Megan was being unclothed and was mating with Zack, so it seemed a bit rushed.

Overall, this book is a hilarious and pleasurable read for those who love kick-ass heroines and action! I recommend this to the more adult audience who are looking for a short, paranormal read(:

This was a short and sweet Kindle Freebie about a witch who is drafted in to help a reluctant werewolf find his mate.

I enjoyed this. It had a few errors, mainly just missing dialogue tags, but it wasn't enough to bother me. It was free, after all.

It was an excellent sample of Caroline Hanson's writing style and I will definitely be reading more of her full-length stuff because she has a great personality that comes across through her characters. The inner thought processes of the witch in particular were very enjoyable. If anyone is familiar with the bat shit crazy Valkyries and Witches from Kresley Cole's IAD series, you might enjoy that type of character, too.

It was too short for me to get more than 3-stars-excited about it, but it definitely worked as a marketing tool because I added her other works to my TBR list as soon as I finished.

This is a very short story and it doesn't waste any time jumping in and putting the two main characters in orbit around one another. They're both kinda turned on by one another, but Megan chalks it up to a general (and annoying) attraction toward Zack and as a by-product of the type of spell she's getting ready to unleash on him.

Things move quickly. Dog jokes are made. Mates are found. Sexing occurs. Ta-da!

While this is short, you definitely get a feel for Megan's prickly personality and Zack's disinclination to choose a mate when his wolf clearly isn't interested in any of the female wolves he's coming in contact with. Short and sweet. Perfect for a quick lunchtime read.

If you are looking for a good, real short read, please for God sakes read this. I was stumbling around on amazon and found and i am so happy that did! This really is a good half an hour read, that will have you laughing and smiling throughout the whole thing, at least i thought so. I thought was just a good entertaining read. Sadly it ended...I am seriously going to have to check this author out more often if her writing is anything like this because it was ridiculously fun, and witty, Dog Jokey, just good fun!

Cute little freebie werewolf / witch story.

His pack want their Alpha mated, he's 30, past time. Zack Connor just can't find the right girl, but not for lack of trying. Meanwhile the rest of the pack's life is put on hold, waiting.

So they call in a witch to try to locate the 'missing lucky girl'.

Miss Stephens is the witch and you guessed it, its her.

HEA ensues :)

Wouldn't mind reading more of Ms Hanson's work.

Meaghan Stevens is a witch for hire. She's called to help a werewolf find his mate....boy is she in for a surprise.

Zach is 30 and frustrated trying to find the mate he needs to keep his pack from falling apart..torn between duty and desperation he gets Meghan to do a spell on him little does either know what that spell will do...

Fastest book I read its a whole lot of smut but fun just the same.

Bewitching the werewolf is a short and free (at least it was when I got it) book on amazon.

This book was so much fun. The storyline was good and it often made me laugh, I really enjoyed it. Megan is a great character who lacks a verbal filter, Zach was charming and hot and the chemistry between them sizzled.

I felt like it moved a little too fast for me and would have liked a little more, but it was free so I can’t complain.

Cute, light on world building and overall development. There are some good one-liners but I'm not a fan of the insta-mate trope and I never felt the supposed heat between Zack and Megan. I was also irritated that the heroine's name never appears in the story. Nope, not once. I even did a search in case I'd missed it. The heroine is never referred to by name and never gives her name. Anyway, it's a cute, light story, nicely fluffy with no meat to it.

The alpha werewolf pack leader, Zack Connor, hires a witch, Megan Stephens, to help him with a problem. The wolf part of him refuses to choose a mate, which is creating instability in his pack. So it’s her job to put some type of spell on him to cure the problem. This short novella is so funny. Hilarious. I loved it. This fun fast read will have you laughing, even at Megan’s doggie jokes. There are also hot love scenes.

This wasn't just a short story, it was a micro story. Really nowhere near long enough to give a proper review since there wasn't exactly time to build up a storyline.
There's lust, sex and happy endings.

Plus that has to be the cutest cover I've seen in a long time. Also give me an idea for a tattoo.
