Sarah M Cradit has done it again. I received an ARC for an honest review, but it's one of those I'll be buying on release day even though I've read it.

She has a way of bringing you into her world that keeps expanding and may just be getting a bit darker as new elements present themselves.

This story starts out with Nic down and out, contemplating offing himself. That is until a stunning woman so rudely interrupts by showing up on his island.

After Mercy tells him some crazy ass story about her husband, she just sort of sticks around, wrecking his plans.

Normally, Nic is so self-absorbed he wouldn't bother helping, but something changes. He enlists his best friend Oz, who he happens to be pissed with. Oz in turn brings in Ana, his beloved cousin who he's been giving the cold shoulder.

Things get crazy, Nic finds out everything isn't as it seems, there is a lot more going on in the world than he thought. Then Aidrik walks in and throws everything on it's side.

You'll meet a whole new race of beings which I'm intrigued by, and people will learn valuable lessons.

Yes, I love this series and this book and I can't wait until the next.

The Illusions of Eventine by Sarah Cradit is a December 2013 release. I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

The story picks up with Nic still licking his wounds over the revelation that Oz and Ana had been intimate. As usual, he thinks everything is about him. He did take it pretty hard and his heart is broken, which is a new experience for him.
He has decided to travel to his private island, knowing it would be deserted, with some very dark thoughts. Before he even gets a chance to think about things, he discovers a woman has washed up on his beach and is nearly catatonic. Instinct takes over and he gets her to the house to take care of her. This begins a journey for Nicolas that will reveal to him his ancestry. It will explain a lot about who he is. He will realize that he is capable of love and compassion and will learn to think of others with empathy.
Of course, Nicolas's cousin, Ana will play a part in all of this. She is struggling with something that happened in Maine. She is still with Finn and loves him very much. She feels better after clearing the air between them, but she still thinks she is toxic to him and must end things.
As Ana comes home to New Orleans she finds herself immersed in Nic's situation with Mercy, the woman he encountered on the beach. Little do they know that the whole thing was orchestrated by someone that is watching their every move. The family will be stunned to learn of their heritage and Ana in particular will see her life take on a whole new direction she never dreamed of.

This chapter in the Crimson and Clover series takes on a new direction from the previous installments. This series has the potential to go off in so many wonderful directions. Each book is better than the last. This one is the best one in the series to date, and I love all the other ones too.
Nicolas is still Nicolas- but he will be challenged in a way he never dreamed. Ana is still tormented by her past mistakes and whatever secrets she holds, and Oz is still the stable best friend with a troubled wife. The three of them will learn to put the past to rest while their lives become more complicated. Mercy is a new character and is central to this story. You will really like her and the number she does on Nicolas.
Another new character is Aidrik . He will become central in Ana's life.
The focus of this novel deals more in the paranormal realm. I felt it had the tone of a fantasy novel or science fiction leanings, but it would be up to the reader's perceptions on that. It was just how I felt about these new characters and their connections to the Deschanel family.
Ana finds she is in the position of still being in love with Finn and being bonded with Aidrik. The new book will explore that story in detail. I am really looking forward to that one!
This one gets an A+

Review

Plot/Story: The book has a weird/awesome combination of Paranormal, Fantasy, and Romance. The evolving relationships made the book a great read and not just another Romance book, it had real emotions and dark problems combined.

Characters: Each character comes with lots of secrets that made the story even more compelling and fun to read.

I loved Nicolas Deschanel a lot and his attitude, he was the main reason I stuck with the story. Loved his humor and his dark view on things, Nic may seem like pretty boy type jerk, lol and he is but I just get him, lol ;) He has changed much throughout the story, making him even more compelling.

It was a bit hard for me to connect with Mercy but as I read further I could really see who she really is. She is such a strong Empyrean and I really enjoyed knowing her better.

Finn, Oz, Ana, and Aidrik are such wonderful addition to the story.

All the characters are so fantastically created and I enjoyed the different POVs.

Romance/Kills: Sorry, must read the book. Even the smallest hint (and I have placed a few hints here and there) will tell a lot, must keep this spoiler free ;)

Writing: This is my first ever book of Sarah M. Cradit and I truly enjoyed her writing. Even though it’s hard for me to connect to Romance type of books, her writing made it much easier for me to do so :)

The author wrote so well that this book can be even a standalone if you want and her world building is amazing and flawless.

Beginning: The Deschanel family has mysterious abilities and the story start by explaining all this and why the main character Nicolas does not have any abilities, but things are not as they may seem.

I was completely glued to the book from the start. The author shows us the dark side of Nic and even though he is such a jerk, he still has such complex emotions and is willing to help Mercy even though he hates the idea of helping at all.

Ending: The book ends in a perfect moment. All my questions were answered, but still making me crave for more, perfect.

Cover Art: The cover is gorgeous, just look at it. I love the colors and the burning phoenix, amazing cover.

Blurb: The blurb set the mood nicely for the beginning of the story, but the story is even better written and more gripping than the blurb.

Other Stuff

Opening Line: “Living no longer interested me.”

Highlights: Everything, from the wonderful writing to the great characters and amazing plot.

Lowlights: None.

Final Thoughts: Amazing book and I enjoyed ever second reading this book, now I must go and read the rest of Sarah’s work.

** I received a free ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review **

This book was beautifully written. Sarah M. Cradit's writing style is flawless hooking the reader every bit as much as the story itself.

I feel like I must admit first off that I have not read the rest of this series except for the novella Beyond Dusk. But after reading this book, I want to. Sarah M. Cradit has introduced me to a whole new world full of magic and mystery and awesome characters.

The Deschanel family is not your typical family. This family tree is full of men and women with amazing super natural abilities. Some have the ability to heal. some can read minds. Others can even move things with their minds and control plant life. Nick Deschanel's abilities so far in life have been limited to charming the ladies and witty come backs. That is, until he meets Mercy.

Feeling utterly betrayed by the two people he cares most about, Nick takes a trip to the secluded Deschanel Island with plans to put himself out of his misery. What he does not plan on is finding a strange woman washed up on the shore of his beach. What he further doesn't plan on is giving a damn about what happens to her.

When you read this book it is impossible not to become invested in these characters and what happens to them. I absolutely loved Nick and his snark. He puts on a hard front but whats underneath is definitely worth working for. His sarcasm and humor kept me interested and entertained throughout the story. And not just him. All of the characters were extremely well written and important. There is no denying the amazing imagination and dedication that it would require to write a book like The Illusions of Eventide.

Sarah M. Cradit is an amazing storyteller. I got more than I ever bargained for when I started this book. I fully intend to start the rest of the series now. I highly recommend this book to any fans of this series or just fans of fantastic writing. But if you're like me and haven't read the rest of the series yet, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning.

The Illusions of Eventide (House of Crimson and Clover #2)
by Sarah M. Cradit

Nicolas Deschanel goes to his family vacation home on the gulf of Mexico, contemplating taking his own life. There he sees a young woman, Mercy sitting alone on the beach. But Mercy is not the average woman, she holds many secrets, so does Nicholas. Soon they find their lives connecting, and things start to get out of control. Together they must figure out how to straighten things out.

A complex and intriguing story with a cast of characters that each have their own special qualities and secrets. Some are likable, others are not, but they all are unique in their own way. I loved the plot, the fantasy theme and learning about each person. I enjoyed seeing how the story unfolded and where it would end. I do intend on reading more in this series. I feel that fantasy lovers will enjoy this book.

Where do I begin? This is the third book from the Crimson and Clover Series. It could stand alone, but I really think reading at least The Storm and the Darkness would make reading this much easier.

The Goodreads description is: Nicolas Deschanel was betrayed by the only two people who matter to him. Their disloyalty stung and an overwhelming sense of loss lingers. Nicolas has lived the high life professing to not have a care in the world, and now this illusion is calling his bluff.

Determined to take control of an existence now devoid of purpose, he sojourns to his family's holiday home on the Gulf of Mexico. Resolved more than depressed, he plans to privately say goodbye to a world which no longer needs him. Of questionable fortune, he finds a woman, Mercy, sitting alone on the shore at eventide. Nicolas is conflicted between an obligation to help, and annoyance at her intrusion.

Mercy has many layers of secrets. Deepest of all, she cannot tell this Child of Man she is thousands of years old and very powerful. In her presence, Nicolas’ own dormant powers begin to surface, triggering a sequence of events that cause both of their lives to spiral further out of control. When old friends from both sides come to help, together they all learn a painful truth: new life can only begin once you’ve set free what means the most.

My review and recommendation:
The first two books had a touch of paranormal in them, but this one went to a new level. At first I wasn't sure about that, but the characters and the writing sucked me in. As new characters were introduced and the new world was described, I felt completely at home.

I was drawn to Mercy, even knowing all of the secrets that hadn't been exposed to Nic yet. I could see what I thought was going to happen, but then I would be wrong. The characters unfolded in a perfect way.

Many books can leave you breathless until the book abruptly ends and you have so many unanswered questions and feel cheated. That is not the case with this book. The author takes you to the very edge, then brings you back on multiple occasions. Then when so many books would typically end, Ms. Cradit continues telling the story. She created a desire for more. And reading the first chapter of Bound, I know I will not be disappointed by the next book.

I highly recommend this book (and the entire series) if you are looking for a book to entertain you, a book to draw you into the lives of the characters, a book to let you escape reality for a few hours. The storytelling was exquisite and very well written. I can't wait for the next book.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for a fair and honest review, but the opinions are totally and completely my own.

So, I just finished The Illusions of Eventide and all I can think is - wow. Not only is it a beautiful title, it's beautifully written. Sarah M. Cradit has a way of writing that elevates her above the crowd. It's so well done, so well thought out that I found myself pausing multiple times and just relishing her words. She also has a way of writing fantasy that can come off as contemporary, which is interesting, it starts out normal and slowly slides you into the fantasy.

With the previous books, I thought that I had a slight idea of where she was taking this series and then I get to this book and crap, I didn't have a clue. I love what she is doing with the characters, the mythology and the relationships. She answered some questions, while opening up tons of more. It should be interesting to see where she takes this utterly spellbinding series.

After the previous book, The Storm and the Darkness, Nikolas is dealing with some deep depression and has planned to go away to his families secluded island so that he can end it all. Upon arrival, he finds himself not alone like he planned, instead he meets the incredibly mysterious and intriguing Mercy, who is not at all what she appears. When he offers help and she accepts, it takes them to Deschanel's ancestral home, Ophelie. There we get to see a whole bunch of characters from the previous novels and a new character too. What follows is an interesting story that had me glued to my Kindle wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I am not going to say much about the overall storyline for fear of dropping major spoilers, but it's pretty awesome. The mythology that Sarah M. Cradit is weaving is incredible. I am very curious to see where she will take everyone in the books to come.

Nikolas, Mercy, Ana, and Aidrik narrate the story and each voice is fun to read. I loved how things were resolved and other things were left hanging for the next book.

Overall, another strong addition to a series that is proving to be uniquely interesting. Not to be missed by anyone that loves a good story. I would say though, that if you haven't read the previous books in the series to go back and start at the beginning, everything will make way more sense and its more fun if you know whats happened up to this point.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

ARC review.
I love Nic, he is by far my favorite character in this series, and this book, with him as the main character didn’t change my mind, if even I have fallen in love with him more. When you read the other books his character always stuck out. I love his personality. The sarcastic, I don’t give a crap about anything but women and travelling. If you have read the series you already know there is more to him then it seems. He does care, he does love, and he does feel pain, deeply. A lot of people might see him as the playboy who never intends to settle down. Part of that is truth. I don’t think he intended to settle down, for a while at least. This book changed all of that.
In this book it starts off somewhat depressing. Nic is still reeling from the betrayal from “The Storm and the Darkness”. He leaves to go to his family home fully intending to end his life (gasp!) That in itself has the reader hooked, even if he wasn’t your favorite you have grown to at least be used to his character, know he is an important part of the series.
He is expecting to be alone; ignoring the worry from the two who hurt him he settles into the family home when he sees someone on his land. He isn’t happy at all. But when he realizes something is wrong with the woman, the hidden “hero” in him lurches forward urging him to help this woman.
Meeting Mercy changes Nic’s life in more than one way. Latent powers begin to appear and it seems he isn’t beguine as he had grown to know, and people from both of their lives come to help them.
I am not sure what to say about Mercy. Her character is well thought out and brought to life. Sometimes throughout I like her and feel sorry for her, other times I think she needed to be humbled (which does happen). Even though I always wished Nic could be mine (haha). Mercy is good for him just as he is good for her.
The other characters that are revealed in the story, the new and the old, bring it together and move the series forward into a direction I didn’t think about. Totally surprising and necessary.
I recommend this book as I have the others; this series is one you won’t want to miss out on. Sarah is an amazing writing and knows how to suck her readers into the story.

Although I haven't gotten around to reading the first book in this series, I've read Beyond Dusk and The Storm and the Darkness and throughout both of these, Nicolas has remained my favorite character, so you can imagine how excited I was to see it was his time to shine even more in this new installment to The House of Crimson and Clover Series.

I immediately liked Nicolas and his very straightforward, tell-it-like-it-is, I-couldn't-care-less-if-you-love-me-or-hate-me attitude when I first met him in The Storm and the Darkness. You never had to wonder where you stood with Nic and although he came across as a jerk (I'm being kind here) at times, you still had to admire that in a guy. This book allowed me to see there was more to Nicolas than his surface persona and it was interesting, and definitely entertaining at times, to watch as his layers peeled away to meet the real guy underneath.

There was no doubt that Nic needed a strong woman to keep him in check and although Mercy was definitely strong, she wasn't at all what I'd expected. That being said, Mercy's character added a whole new dimension to this series and I'm interested to see where it leads. There are so many possibilities. I was happy to see some characters I knew, and was intrigued by a major new character which I'm sure we'll see more of in the future.

Sarah is an amazing storyteller and does an excellent job with characterization. The blend of fantasy and paranormal genres was highly enjoyable. Don't miss out on this wonderful series.

It goes without saying that reading a stand-alone book is wonderful; but I also thoroughly enjoy continuing my relationship with characters throughout a series. But then there are those books in the series that take the game to a whole new level! Cradit not only takes this series to that level, but she goes well beyond. Just when you think you are comfortable in the cosmology of her incredible story, she tears open the backdrop and shows you that, behind this world of her beloved characters, there resides a whole new world you never even thought of, with powerful new beings to nourish the ravenous receptors of your imagination!

THE ILLUSIONS OF EVENTIDE is absolutely brilliant! In previous reviews, I’ve mentioned how Cradit’s writing reminds me of a young Anne Rice. And this is too true! In this new installment for her House of Crimson and Clover series, Cradit proves that point yet again as she introduces us to powerful beings reminiscent of Anne Rice, creating well-loved immortals like Akasha, Marius, Pandora, and more – except that Cradit’s new powerful creatures come from an entirely different lore, one all her own. This new work is highly original, well written, and thoroughly compelling throughout each page. I could not have asked for a better or more fulfilling follow up to her previous books in the series, St. Charles at Dusk and The Storm and the Darkness, not to mention her short story in the series, Beyond Dusk: Anne.

THE ILLUSIONS OF EVENTIDE is the best book of the series (thus far)! Try it today!

In an effort to not sound redundant, I will just say that this book was amazing!! The words amazing, awesome, exciting, fun and surprising are all words that I would use to describe the series of books that author Sarah M. Cradit has written! I loved the latest in the series almost as much as all of the others, but the first book that you read will always stick with you the most!! The characters that she has created jump off of the page and become a part of you, the scenes that she describes makes you feel like you are there and the drama, suspense, and mystery keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the book. I have fallen in love with Finn, Nicholas and Oz and if you could combine a few things from each one he would be the perfect man!!! I love Ana, Adrienne and Mercy because they all have characteristics of someone that I aspire to be. I can't wait until the next book in this series is released because right now I feel like I have lost my really good friends and I have to know what happens to them next!! Add this series to your next series to be read and remember that the first book in the series if free on Amazon!! Go one-click it so that you can experience all of this and more!!!
I have included the link below for the first book in the series so that you can get started!! Enjoy!!!

The Deschanel family has long held mysterious and often unpredictable abilities. The Illusions of Eventide begins to explain where these mysterious powers may have originated from and why Nicolas does not have any ablilties. The paranormal element was brought forth in the previous novel, The Darkness and the Storm, as a small part of the Deschanel’s history. In this book it goes much further in depth and really gets integrated into the lives of the characters.
Sarah Cradit’s ability to weave a story filled with mythology, paranormal, and the reality of life so fluidly kept me turning page after page, thoroughly engrossed. She has created a new super natural civilization with a ruling council that rivals the Shadovar of Dungeons and Dragons, with their attempt to control and manipulate their own kind. Even though I suggest and highly recommend every story in the House of Crimson and Clover series, the book has been written in such a way as to allow you to read it without any prior knowledge of the other books. Of course you will want to go back to the other books to see how it has all come about. The Illusions of Eventide is by far my Top favorite of 2013!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!! Could not put it down!!

After reading the first book I was caught in the stories and lives told by Sarah M Cradit. The second book carried the story amazingly on as I could not put it down.
BUT THE THIRD BOOK!!!!!
I found myself giving up Candy Crush and Bejeweled to READ AND FINISH!!!
It swept me away and the need to know what would happen next kept me picking it up every chance I could!
The characters intrigued me as I read hoping to take in more about them! Sarah did a fabulous job of painting the pictures of places, characters, events, and visions! I felt the pain, passion, love, hate, and anguish of each character!
Now that I have read it, I am anxiously waiting for the next book and any other novelettes that Sarah M Cradit writes!
Definitely put this book and the whole series on your "TO READ" list!

Really liked this book! This was the first book of this series I've read, and I was able to follow everything that went on, without being bludgeoned by backstory. Cradit's world is entirely new, and absolutely fascinating. I especially liked the alternating first-person points-of-view; very well done and not at all confusing. All the chapters were long enough to get settled with one character, and not feel like the head-hopping was excessive or interfered with the story.

I would recommend this for any paranormal fan. A fun, interesting read. I will be coming back for more Deschanels!

Sarah hits it out of the park with this! What a fantastic magical journey. Her characters are woven into each others lives in the most incredible ways. The plot drew me in from the very beginning and I couldn't stop reading. It is a rarity that I ever review but, how could I not! It is also rare that I purchase paperbacks unless it is a story that I know I will read over again. I should be getting a box from Amazon in two days with the entire series inside. Yep, it's that good!

Easily, my favorite in the House of Crimson and Clover series. Not only do I like Nicholas, with all his faults and foibles, I loved how the threads from all the previous books were bound up in this book that presents a nice twist with the introduction of Empryeans. Great writing, and a beautifully layered, and intricate story. Great job!

I can't say that I loved this book, in fact I thought it was very long and a bit confusing. That said some people might find all the mysteries exciting but for me it maybe it difficult to really enjoy this book. Still I finished reading it and it was actually getting interesting in the end so I had to finish the story and therefore I give it two stars.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Where do I even start with this book? I’ve been struggling with this review for days feeling as if there is no way for me to do it justice. The House of Crimson and Clover quickly became one of my favorite series and Cradit one of my favorite authors this year. Being from South Louisiana, I first became interested in the series because of its setting, New Orleans. Cradit’s love for NOLA, as we affectionately refer to it, is apparent in her writing as she can make that city come alive like nobody’s business. I could go on and on here, but to really understand her gift in this area, you should refer to book 1 in the series, St. Charles at Dusk.

The locale may have been what got me interested in reading the series in the first place, but I was quickly sucked in by so much more. By the time I reached this book, I was so heavily involved I was shamelessly begging Cradit for whatever crumbs in the forms of teasers, snippets, hints she could spare. Shameless I tell ya. Cradit has successfully deepened and further complicated the beloved (and not so beloved) characters of The House of Crimson and Clover series. We are introduced to new characters as well who give new meaning to the word ‘interesting.’ I said it before, and I’ll say it again, this author develops characters better than anyone else I’ve had the pleasure of reading. People are not always what they seem on the surface, and isn’t that true to life? Cradit’s characters are multi-dimensional, have real flaws and insist the reader have an open mind to absorb every deep, dark facet.

And the storyline. Oh, the storyline! We get our first real peek at the paranormal element of the series when we read Beyond Dusk: Anne, a novelette that will remain a favorite of mine. But if you love paranormal and fantasy, prepare to be wowed when you read The Illusions of Eventide. Cradit has the ability to weave paranormal abilities, ancient curses and even an entire inhuman race into the lives of seemingly normal (for lack of a better word) NOLA inhabitants. While we were introduced to some of these abilities earlier on, they become much more apparent and much more a part of the story in Eventide. How she writes in such fantastical people and events while still keeping it believable is beyond me. All I know is that she does it and does it well. Do get ready for some jaw-dropping moments though. The kind that make you sit up, take notice and want more, more, more!

I simply cannot recommend this book enough. While it’s not necessary to read all previous books in the series before reading Eventide, I do recommend reading at least St. Charles at Dusk first. Cradit’s books are not quick reads; they are designed to take time and to make the reader really think about what he or she is reading. I really suggest reading Beyond Dusk: Anne, too. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary to understand Eventide, but it’s just so darn good! And while you’re at it, you may as well move on to The Storm and the Darkness. You see where I’m going here, people? Read the series! It’s phenomenal. Cradit’s writing improves with each new book, and I am ever ready to read the next installment!

The Illusions of Eventide is the third novel in the House of Crimson and Clover series. Although The Illusions of Eventide can be read as a stand alone book, I recommend that you read St. Charles at Dusk and The Storm and the Darkness first. (There’s also Beyond Dusk: Anne, a novelette after St. Charles at Dusk). I have read all 3 of the novels and the novelette and they’re equally fascinating reads!

“Nothing had turned out the way any of us expected. Yet, somehow, it was exactly as it should be” (262) – Nicholas Deschanel

Nicholas Deschanel is an endearing character, despite the fact that he’s a self described “pretty” boy, ridiculously wealthy, and selfish. He’s also a man hell bent on destroying himself. He even has a plan to commit suicide. However, when a woman he thinks is helpless washes up on his private island in the Gulf of Mexico, he realizes that for once, he can be as selfless as his brother-in-law and (former) best friend Oz Sullivan. “Oz was the man I often wished I could be” (17). It doesn’t take long for Nicholas to realize that Mercy is anything but a damsel in distress; in fact she reminds him of a female Viking warrior. At any rate, Mercy’s plight gives Nicholas a distraction from his own melancholy-mind. With help from Oz and Ana, Nicholas’s cousin and other (former) best friend, Nicholas nurses Mercy back to health at his luxurious Louisiana plantation. As Nicholas tries to forgive Oz and Ana’s past act of betrayal, his bond with Mercy grows increasingly strong. Just when Nicholas thinks that he’s finally found a woman who he could form an actual relationship with, she admits that she’s not human but a three- thousand- year- old Empyrean. She’s also yearning for her Ascension, the day she’ll meet Emyr, The Father and creator of the Empyrean race. And then she really drops a bombshell- Nicholas and his cousin Ana are halflings (half human and half Empyrean).

Cradit’s other novels had paranormal traces to them but this novel mixes strong elements of paranormal with mythology. At first, I was taken aback, but soon grew fascinated with the blend of past and present characters. Once again Nicholas and Finn (Ana’s love interest) were among my favorite past characters and Mercy became my favorite new character. I read this novel in one sitting, that’s how much I enjoyed it! Cradit has the gift of storytelling; she weaves past events into the present story which helps jog the memories of readers who’ve read the sequels, which also gives a new reader a taste of the sequels.

In a word... beautiful.

This is the third installment to the Crimson and Clover series and, in my opinion, the best yet. The depth of the emotion, the history, the introduction of new characters and the reappearence of old, the witty sarcastic dialogue that is so uniquely Nic; it all adds up to a novel that will have you laughing, crying and begging for more.

Nicolas Deschanel is a handsome, spoiled, self absorbed, sarcastic millionare playboy who, after finding out the two people he loved most in his life had betrayed him, decides to run off to islation and end his pitiful existence on the small island his family owns. His heart is broken, his mind confused, and he's sick and tired of living a life void of any real meaningful emotion.

Mercy, a three thousand year old Empyrean on the verge of ascension has been led to this beautiful island in the gulf by an inner voice she can not avoid. After thousands of years, she is finally going ascend to The Father, leaving the world of Man to join those that had come before her. But when she finds herself not alone, and that inner voice tells her just how important this Child of Man is in her final days, Mercy comes up with an elaborate lie to bring out the hero that dwells within every man.

Or so she thought. Nic has never been the night in shining armor type, always looking out for himself and never, ever getting involved when it comes to women. The mushy, emotional drama has always been the first sign for him to take off... until now.

Mercy and Nic have a bond that grows ever stronger with each passing day, along with an ability that blossoms in Nic that his crazy family has never seen. But Nic isn't the only Deschanel that changes in this dark and beautiful story.

With every new installment I get to read in this fantastic series I fall more and more in love. This is by far the best novel by Sarah I have read, and one of the best books I've gotten my hands on of the year.

The Illusions of Eventide is the fifth publication of the House of Crimson and Clover series, and the second full-length novel in the series. I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing the entire series so far and I've loved them all.

I loved getting more of Ana and Finn, but the this book is mostly about Nicolas. Nic's outward persona of being a womanizer who doesn't care about anything aside from a good time is challenged when he comes across a damsel in distress on his private beach. With each novel and novella, the author has delved deep into one or more of the Deschanel family. In addition to getting to know Nicolas Deschanel, readers get the very rich backstory of the Deschanel family. The creative story of the how the Deschanel family came into their interesting powers/talents will have science fiction and fantasy lovers drooling for more.

Cradit displays her talents completely in this offering. Her ability to keep the ongoing series story going while introducing a complex fantasy world full of mystical beings is phenomenal. I am confident that this story line is far from over, and that readers will get to enjoy more of Cradit's storytelling as she weaves together the future of the Deschanel family.

Although this book could be read as a stand alone, it is much better if read in order of the series. I know I got a lot more of Illusions of Eventide for having read the entire series.

After leaving Maine and Ana, Nicolas has sunk deeply into a depression. So much so that he takes the decision to travel to the fame’s holiday island and end it all. He can see no way forward and has no will to carry on. The betrayal he feels is all encompassing and he can’t see a way past it.

Believing himself to be alone on the island he’s incredulous and dismayed when he sees a mysterious woman sitting on the beach. Even in the midst of his own despair Nicolas feels obliged to help and with this decision lives are changed forever. Nicolas and Ana learn of their true heritage, finding the reality of it all almost impossible to grasp.

Thoughts

This series just gets better! The inclusion of Mercy, Aidrik and the whole idea of the complex Empyrean race takes this chapter in the lives of the Deschanels to a whole new level and dimension. The fantasy/paranormal aspect deepens significantly and adds a very interesting twist.

I like the intriguing and expanding development of the characters, especially Nicolas. He’s not such a shallow, all for himself person as Mercy works her magic and the story unfolds.

Nothing is as it seems and although each member of the Deschanel family have their own special abilities, they are not always aware of their own power and what it means. A lot is explained when Aidrik appears at Ophélie and valuable lessons are learned.

Fascinating and wonderful storytelling, very well written. Also, as an aside, all the book covers are beautifully designed and very evocative.

Key Plot Elements: flawed humans, and perhaps even more flawed not-so-humans; New Orleans culture and scenery; fantasy in creation of a new race; paranormal powers; humor; brief historical references.

For a reader new to the series, this is a story about forgiveness and redemption, thickly seasoned with fantasy and paranormal. For Crimson & Clover series readers? Cradit has mastered connecting the dots. What were seemingly separate threads have now been smoothly bundled together. Interesting streams have converged into a heart pounding torrent through well-paced layers of reveal. In the course of uncovering illusions surrounding the Deschanel family, Cradit touches back to key points of every single book she has written. This is especially engaging because, amid the “rest of the story” explanations, you begin to understand the very real drama that is both a threat and a gift to this family.

A new race is artfully introduced with sufficient detail without getting overly bogged down. More connecting-the-dots, Cradit ties backstory to actual historical facts. The line between fiction and fact is well blurred and makes for a completely immersive story.

Complementing the intense drama and raging emotion are some lovely humor nuggets. This is an exceptionally well-balanced book. It is enjoyable stand-alone, but you best appreciate Cradit’s artful delivery if you have read at least one of her other works.

From The Page Walker

Illusions of Eventide is book two of The House of Crimson and Clover, written by Sarah M. Cradit. In this installment, we are welcomed by Nicolas Deschanel’s determination to end his life in their vacation home in the Gulf of Mexico. But the sudden appearance of a troubled woman on the shore of his property, at eventide, derailed his plans. Nicolas was torn between playing the hero or the asshole to turn the woman away.

Mercy is a bundle of secrets, but so are Nicolas and his entire clan. In a matter of days, they will find out where all the secrets are from.

I haven’t had the chance to read the first book in the series. So when I started reading this, I have no expectations as to how the experience will turn out. I have to admit that I was fairly surprised by the exquisite storytelling. I read the entire book in just two sittings. Ms. Cradit is a gifted writer, weaving a new set of mythology, creating a new Nephelim-like and human history. I think that it’s genius.

Disclosing more information about the story may spoil everything, but there is no doubt that the story may spin in any direction, the possibilities are countless. Overall this is a series to look forward to. I recommend this series to those who appreciate awesome fantasy and romance.

I love this series! There are a few PNR series that I adore, and although Brandy Rivers' The Others of Edenton is my first choice, The House of Crimson and Clover is a very close second! The story is engrossing and visually it is stunning!

This is the story I have been waiting for. Nick is a character I have loved since I was first introduced to him. I have been waiting for waiting for his story. Nick is a complete smart ass who pulls no punches. I am drawn to that about him. Nick is sort of the warden of his family. He tends to take on all the responsibility and quite frankly seems a bit taken advantage of.

But when Mercy is found sitting on his beach, you see things really start to change. Both good and not so much. Mercy is a really cool addition to the series! Honest to goodness I thought the Deschanel's were awesome, Mercy takes it to a whole new level of intense, interesting, and engrossing!

Tons of twists and turns, Sarah keeps you engaged and interested. Too often I read a PNR that tries to be interesting and engaging and ends up being confusing and frustrating. Sarah doesn't write a simple story, you will need to keep up. But trust me when I tell you, the journey is so worth it. Ms. Cradit, you have blown my mind once again!

I give The Illusions of Eventide a solid 5 lipsticks. Without a doubt the best in the series thus far!!!

My first thought upon reading Sarah M. Cradit's "The Illusions of Eventide" was "where have these books been all my life?" I immediately fell in love with the characters, story line and world these people inhabit. Between Empyreans, the Farvaerdig, the Evigbond, Ulfberht and the Runeans, I was completely hooked.

I haven't seen world-building on a scale like this since The Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones and the author does it in such a way that you are introduced at the right pace to grasp everything and not get confused. This world is entirely believable, so much so that you almost question whether it really does exist. They way everything is explained, it sounds completely plausible while still maintaining an air of other-worldliness and mystique.

This is the first book in the series; however, there are some prequels and short stories that compliment the series that I am eager to read. If you like getting involved in sprawling family sagas, mysterious worlds or compelling human dramas, these books are for you.

Let me preface this by saying I don't usually start reading a book within an on going series, unless it's book one. So when I started with book 2, I wasn't sure where I would even end up. That definitely isn't the case with The Illusions of Eventide: The House of Crimson and Clover Book 2.

This book has such an intriguing story line. You can pick up reading it as a stand alone and feel completely comfortable in what is going on, which I absolutely loved. Sarah M. Cradit has sneaked enough of a back story for each character that wont spoil any of the books for this read; but yet gives you something to go on so your readers journey will be well equipped.

Nic and Mercy are just fascinating characters. The twists and turns are jaw dropping and the sci-fi element was completely unexpected and provocative. I loved to hate Nic, in all his vainglorious nature and Mercy in her self deceiving heart. I was being taken for a stunning ride for sure.

Without hesitation, I can honestly say I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to see what the future holds for the Deschanel clan.
