From REMINGTON KANE, author of the TAKEN! Series DOMINANCE - TANNER 59
Lucien Gant, patriarch of the Gant family in France, has decided the time has come to wage war on their enemies. Those enemies include Tanner.
Tanner travels to New York City to help Joe Pullo, who killed Lucien’s son, Victor, after Victor’s ill-fated attempt to take over the city years earlier.
Elke Gant killed another of Lucien’s sons, Marius, in retaliation for the murder of her own son.
Lucien’s remaining son, the hulking Hugo Gant, and his devious sister, Salome, are out to do their father’s bidding and eliminate their enemies. And their success brings tragedy into Tanner’s life.
Death comes to New York City in the form of vengeance, and sorrow and loss follow in its wake.
Remington Kane is an American author that writes action-packed thrillers. The author might be unfamiliar to some people because Remington Kane is actually a pseudonym for Donald Wells.
Donald Wells has garnered a reputation for writing darker and somewhat serious novels about killers. The author was born in New Jersey. He never really left and has since made a home there. Like most of his peers, Donald Wells was an avid reader as a child.
He spent many an hour devouring every book he came across. And it wasn’t long before he began to yearn for the chance to write. Like many aspiring authors, Donald Wells knew he had the capacity to tell stories. However, he was a little hesitant to venture into such uncharted waters, not only because he didn’t know where to start with regards to writing a book but also because he didn’t have confidence in his own ability to produce compelling fiction.
Again, like most notable authors, Donald meandered about for a while. Rather than going into publishing the first chance he got, Donald tried his hand at various odd jobs. He worked as an insurance salesman, a Real Estate Sales person, and even a Retail manager.
The jobs, though seemingly meaningless in the grand scheme of things, did wonders for the author’s writing capabilities. Whether he was driving trucks or cleaning floors, Donald gained insight into the workings of the world.
He met unexpected people and heard their intriguing stories. He came across numerous strange encounters and even participated in some of them. He essentially dipped into so many unique aspects of life that it came as no surprise that he had more than enough stories rattling around his head when it finally came time to write his first novel.
Not that many authors can claim to have been offered a chance to act as bodyguard to a drug dealer. Since getting his first book sold, though, Donald has finally settled in his career. The author loves writing novels and there is nothing he else he would rather be doing. The fact that he has found a way to make money out of his passion makes him one of the luckier individuals in the world.
By the time Donald Wells began writing as Remington Kane, he had already become established as a novelist with numerous thrillers under his name. However, writing as Remington practically took over his life.
This is because Donald has achieved more success writing as Remington Kane than he did producing novels under his real name. Kane is best known for the Tanner series of novels. Tanner is a hit man who accepts a job to take out a mob boss.
When he is betrayed and thrown into prison, Tanner thinks of little else besides getting revenge. And once he finally gets his freedom, the hit man becomes a one man army, engaging in a brutal way against a crime organization known as the Conglomerate.
Each new book sees Tanner raising the stakes by finding a new target that will sting the Conglomerate in ways they couldn’t possibly fathom.
Remington Kane has been praised for the Tanner novels because Tanner is such a refreshing hero. The protagonist is so average physically, devoid of the exaggerated traits that most action heroes seem to bear. If not for his natural fighting and survival instincts, one would be hard pressed to tell Tanner apart from any other ordinary man on the street.
This is a bittersweet book of Tanner, the legendary assassin, following six previous Tanners, some we know personally, some through the Book of Tanner, where all Tanners leave wisdom for those who are chosen to follow as a Tanner. We all know the next book is the last. It has to be.
Mr. Kane has made Tanner superhuman, and Tanner has never failed. When he accepts a contract, the person is dead. There are no contracts here; only broken oaths. In Tanner's world, those are the worst of all offenses.
Tanner has been very ingenious over the years. Here, we rarely see this ingenuity. (I didn't say never.) He didn't need to be. All his enemies came to him. All of them with Gant blood.
Most of the adult French Gants were not only oath breakers, they were bloody murderers. Bloody. Except one (long-time Tanner fans will remember which) who stands with Tanner.
When all is said and done, only the American and German Gants remain. Except one, not a threat for the next book.
Joe Pullo, who has been pretty quiet since Lauren came into his life, is back in full fighting form.
Lauren is safely hiding; Sara and the children are in California, hopefully safe.
Henry does appear, just when needed, then back he goes to his Henry world. Will we see him again? Who knows.
This is the finest Tanner book I have read. It shows thirty years of friendship with trust in others. It shows how treacherous family can be. Family more treacherous than sworn enemies (although Tanner hasn't left many of those over the years).
Thinking back to all the ways Tanner has been brought to us, this may be the most heartbreaking book I have read in years. Because it is next to last.
How-to-write book review lessons direct those writing reviews to mention other authors a reader may know so they may eagerly read the one being reviewed. I know that doesn't make sense, but it's 3° outside and maybe 10° inside, so right now my brain isn't working, nor are my fingers.
After 59 Tanner books, I understand Mr. Kane wants to explore other worlds. I don't know yet if I will read the next/last one. I rarely read the last of a series or watch the last episode, so the characters remain in my memory the way I want them.
Is it weird I am tearing up writing this? If so, good. I am weird after all.
This is not a book a new reader wants to start with. Go back to the beginning, and rejoice you don't have to wait for the next one. But read them all.
I always look forward to the next Tanner book and this one satisfied my obsession with Tanner. This book is about revenge and wanting dominance by Lucien Gant against his enemies in New York City which includes Tanner and Joe Pullo. Lots of action, lots of killing, lots of deaths. Not everyone on Tanner's side survives, you just have to read the book to see what happens. I love reading about Tanner's adventures and I'm always excited to see what Tanner will do next. Definitely recommend this new Tanner book.
Tanner leaves Texas to assist his NYC friends in a battle with his French relatives, The Gants, who want revenge in the form of elimination. The story does a great job of tying up loose ends as the German Gants, the French Gants, the Mafia (and their Black allies) all deal with spies, betrayals, and murders in a nonstop, action-filled tale. Tanner even takes a short, but effective trip to France. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and voluntarily provided an honest review.
Enjoying the series less and less the further it goes on.
I've enjoyed the character development and story lines since book one. However, lately, the writing seems to be lacking. What I used to think of as a movie (or series of movies) reads more like a low-budget soap opera with cheesy dialog. The only thing keeping me coming back is the originalty of the main character, but even that is losing my interest. Rating this book alone would be only 1 star.
Good wrap up to the French Gants. I always wondered what was going to happen with them. They were too nasty to just go away. Tanner maybe getting older but he hasn’t lost a step yet. As usual, action dominates the story. The characters have been developed by now and they are not going to change. Good read.
59 down and hopefully many left. Tanner fights with family for family. Still at the top of his game tanner must calm the waters and save his family and friends. No contracts just staying alive. Glad to see Henry in the game, bring on the next generation.
I must have stopped reading dozens of times. Beginning did not grab me. Some parts I skipped over because way too gory. Then it sped up and I read the last 2/3 in a day. Hoping Henry gets more action this year.
Tanner find some self in the middle of a Gant family war one of which is very violent and bloody. This is not a standard tanner story with a hit to attain. This is a look into his family life the family that he didn’t know anything about.
