Aristotle: An Introduction

Rate this book
No thinker has had a more profound influence on western civilization than Aristotle. Whether we realize it or not, his work has been one of the main props of our culture for over two thousand years. Underlying all of it is a conviction that system and order can be found to govern everything, even human conduct. In Ethics and Politics Aristotle examines what is the best kind of life, and what is the best kind of society for making this possible. Specially written for NAXOS AudioBooks. Hugh Ross trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and has worked extensively in theatre, film and television. Theatre credits include The Woman in Black, A Prayer for Owen Meany, and Bent at Trafalgar Studios. He has acted in Charlotte Grey and Trainspotting, among other films. His television work includes Sea of Souls, Lovejoy and Absolutely Fabulous. Hugh is also active as a director, with credits including After Liverpool with The Royal Shakespeare Company. Roy McMillan's work for Naxos includes producing An Introduction to Ancient Greek Philosophy, as well as books by Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, Haruki Murakami and the Persian poet, Rumi. He directed the Radio 3 play The Fiery World – A Play of William Blake for Ukemi Productions, and will be adapting and directing The Duchess of Malfi in 2008. He was arts editor, presenter and producer on Manx Radio, before which he spent ten years as a writer, actor and director in the UK and Europe.

Don't judge me. Do you know how much shit Aristotle wrote? A whole lot of it. I never thought about the pure idea of Dog before. I've never thought about dogs this much in general. Highly recommend for all dog lovers!

Fantastic! This was so much better than I had anticipated. If you are interested in Aristotle and his works, but aren't ready to read his actual writings, this would be a great place to start. In truth, I almost wish I started with this before deciding to read the Nicomachean Ethics.

facinating to read how much ahead of his time he was. I agree with with most of his political prescriptions but certainly not his education policy (state owned children). The support for virtue, against pornography, and for the family was right on. His science was extremely advanced for the ancient times. Good introduction to Aristotle.

I listened to this on Playaway. I was curious. I read this in college many years ago. I thought it would be good to hear it. It was only 5 hours long.
