Obadiah James came home to find his wife and child murdered, and what he saw changed him for the rest of his life. He vowed to their dead bodies to catch their killers and bring them to justice even if it meant entering into the heart of hell to find them. Along the way, he learned from men who became more like brothers than friends to him.
Outlaws couldn’t stop him. Bullets couldn’t find him. Arrows wouldn’t kill him. The promise he made to his dead wife and child spurred him on! From Best Selling Author Greg Bower, comes another thrilling western about grit, integrity, friendship, and honor.
I honestly was going to dnf this one but I really needed to finish it for the sake of my reading goal.
So. First off, great premise. Like this story could be AMAZING. It had so much potential and it just… fell terribly flat. I hate to hate on an indie author but arguably this book is just… kinda bad.
The dialogue. No one talks like that. No one. The entire thing read like a video game tutorial- and even those are more exciting because ✨graphics✨. I understand John is mentor and his whole thing is being there to teach Ob how to do things like tracking and shooting but oh my god it was just too much. It was like the author was afraid to miss any little tiny detail about these things when half of it is just common sense especially considering Ob did grow up in that era and would have some sense of half of it. And lastly, it was all so exhaustingly repetitive. Yes, Ob made his promise but we don’t need to be reminded every single chapter.
Overall, I feel like this can be done better. This story has so much potential. It just sucks that it feels very dumbed-down for like a younger audience or something.
I felt Obadiah's heart from the beginning to the very last word!
There were so many heroes and heroines in this bok that the bad guys never even slightly had a snowballs chance of survival! I kind of knew that Dash wouldn't make it since he literally had no other family after his brother was murdered. John had to make it home to his wife but I just knew Ovarian would die too.
Now hurry up and write a book about John and his further adventures please.
I've always thought the only riches are love , trust ,and faith. This story illustrates that to perfection. This now one of my most treasures stories. Enjoy humbly.
Let me start by saying, I never read Christian, westerns or any type of western book. I read this book because the author was coming to our local library for a book review. This book grabbed me in the first chapter and I held onto till the end! The main character, Obadiah James, (what a great name), is a preacher in the small town of Quitman, Texas. He is working late at the church and comes home to find his wife and son brutally murdered. The only clue, someone's ear laying in the floor. Obadiah picks up the ear and whispers, I'm coming for you!! This starts Obadiah on a journey of grief and revenge. The local US Marshall, John, joins Obadiah and soon a young man named Dash from Arkansas joins this possee. Warning: it does contain some very graphic acts of assault and violence. This was a good read!
I enjoyed the story but it was written clumsily. In many instances there were superfluous words at the end of sentences, that were unnecessary <---- Like that.this
