Bound in Debt: A Dark Forced-Marriage Mafia Romance

Rate this book
I’ve always been a walking contradiction. After all, how many people do you know who are a violin maestro AND a mafia member?

Trying to distance myself from my past mob life, I’ve accepted an artist-in-residence position at Thronewood University.

Teaching privileged, barely-adult brats isn’t my idea of fulfilling, but at least it won’t end me back in the hospital or prison.

Been there. Done that.

But there’s something going on at this school that isn’t right. A chance meeting with one of my students, Victoria Waldorf, confirms it.

She’s beautiful, but not vain. She’s innocent, but not naïve.

And she’s a pawn in a game she’s not even aware exists.

I’m the last person on earth who should be protecting her. I’m too hard, too cold... hell, too old to even breathe the same air as her.

Not to mention my past is right in the middle of this mess.

But I’m not going to let anything happen to her.

Keeping her safe means keeping her close. And like it or not, the only way she makes it out of this alive is with my ring on her finger.

A vow I take seriously.

I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end. It's more on the slow burn side for this one, especially with things actually happening (sexy times) with Dante and Victoria but it fits the story and the sexual tension is high. Dante is getting ready to start teaching a violin class at Thronewood university, though he isn't thrilled about it and pretty much is just mad at life. He is an a****** and doesn't care. Victoria is actually a huge fan of his but their run ins don't go well with him being a jerk and insulting. Liam, Dante's nephew, is after Victoria and keeps going along like they are boyfriend/girlfriend, though Victoria is not thrilled about it and not very on board with the whole thing. I like how Victoria continues to speak her mind and give her opinion and not just roll over and be the obedient and submissive female that both Liam and her mother want from her. She refuses to go along with their plans and agree to marry Liam, though they both continue to move forward like she has. Dante is then clued in that there is more going on when he receives a visit and is forced by goons to go have a meeting with the mob boss. Turns out, his brother borrowed money and then couldn't/didn't pay it back and now the debt is being passed on to the remaining family members. Victoria is an unwitting pawn being used in a game she doesn't even realize is being played, at least at first. I enjoyed watching Dante and Victoria have their banter and bicker as Dante can't just leave her out to dry and to save/help her out. It means they have to work together as things start coming to light. They are also dealing with the sexual tension/attraction and Dante continuing to push Victoria away by being mean/insulting to create a wall/barrier between them due to things in his past and the situation. There are plenty of twists and turns in this one as things keep shifting and Dante tries to stay a step ahead and keep Victoria safe. The different players are all making opposing moves that continue to shift the pieces around all for their best interests and what they want. This story was well done and well written. I engaged with both Victoria and Dante and can't wait to watch them continue to get past each others walls as trust begins to build. Very hot and while had to wait for majority of the book for the first real sexy times, it was hot, hot, hot and well worth the wait! Can't wait for more of that in the next one. The book does end on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what comes next!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

BOUND IN DEBT is the first instalment in Josephine Jade’s contemporary, adult BOUND dark, Mafia, erotic, romance duet focusing on former Mafia assassin turned college music professor Dante Moretti, and twenty-one year old, student Victoria Waldorf.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Dante and Victoria) BOUND IN DEBT follows in the aftermath of the death of Dante’s brother. Dante has been hired as the artist in residence at Thronewood University but is about to come face to face with his future in the guise of student Victoria Waldorf, his nephew’s girlfriend, and a woman who is about to become payment for sins of the past. Forced into an arranged marriage she does now want, Victoria believes she can escape the inevitable until the local mob takes aim at our story line heroine forcing Dante Moretti to make a deal with the devil, a devil who is determined to get his due. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Dante and Victoria, and the fall-out when desperation threatens our story line heroine.

The world building focuses on the secrets and lies that have spiralled threatening everyone involved. In an effort to ‘protect’ his family, and our story line heroine, Dante is willing to go back to a life he no longer wants any part of.

The relationship between Dante and Victoria is a teacher / student, age-gap relationship in which Dante makes Victoria an offer she should not refuse . Victoria comes from a wealthy, prominent family, and in this, Victoria has been targeted for who she is. In an effort to protect Victoria from the sins of the past, Dante offers up a solution that places Victoria in the direct line of fire. The $ex scenes are intimate.

We are introduced to Dante’s sister in law Marissa, and his nephew Liam, as well as Victoria’s best friend Ellie, and Mafia boss Angelo Lombardi.

BOUND IN DEBT is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and trust, desperation and determination. The premise is dramatic and intense; the romance is limited ; the characters are desperate and charismatic. BOUND IN DEBT ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

This is an exciting, riveting and thought-provoking story. I am not normally a mafia fan, so I was a little appalled by the characters. I was stunned by their language, their characters’ lack of respect for other people and the offensive and rough personalities. However, as I read further, the characters personalities seemed to soften up enough to appeal more to me.

This story revolves around the members of a family that was born and bred into a huge mob family. One of the men, Dante, is a violin maestro who, after the death of his brother, decides to move to Thronewood University as an artist-in-residence
He is very upset when he discovers that his nephew, Liam, has also moved to Thronewood with, his soon-to-be fiancée, Victoria. Dante dislikes and distrusts his brother’s widow and her son. His brother was recently murdered, and Dante is very suspicious about the whole situation.

Eventually Dante becomes aware that brother’s family has set up a plot that will help the family solve a major problem that was caused by Dante’s brother’s death. Part of the plot involves a planned marriage between naïve Victoria and self-centered Liam.

In spite of the fact that Dante immediately dislikes Victoria and finds it difficult to be pleasant to her, he respects and admires her willingness to speak her mind. She talks back to Liam and his mother, and constantly refuses to allow herself to be forced to submit into doing anything she doesn’t believe in.

Dante eventually realizes that Victoria is an unwitting, naive pawn in this horrendous scheme planned by Liam and his mother. He realizes that he is the only one who can keep Victoria safe. I am not usually a mafia fan, but this growing relationship between Dante and Victoria is an awesome situation to witness.

This book is filled with non-stop action and complex plot twists that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Bound in Debt is my introduction to Josephine Jade, and let me just say that she does not disappoint. This book is very well written, and the characters are developed and relatable. That, in itself, is a job well done. The world the author has created here is certainly foreign to me, but the characters each have things about them that make them easily relatable - even to the average Joe, or Jane, as the case may be.
When we meet Dante, he's broken and bitter and pretty much hates life in general. He's gruff and a total jerk to pretty much everyone, especially Victoria. She is Dante's opposite in just about every way. She's younger, she's innocent, she's the light to his dark. One of my favorite things about Victoria is how she speaks her mind and stands up for herself - something she's going to need when dealing with Dante. They spend a lot of time going head to head, which creates some pretty great fireworks. In spite of, or maybe because of, those fireworks, the sexual tension between Dante and Victoria grows throughout the book, so when they come together, it's explosive.
The book is deliciously dark with a building tension. It's full of great characters, some to love and some to hate, and some bring about both feelings. This is the first book in a duet, so expect a cliffhanger. It's a pretty darn good one, too, and it definitely creates an urgency to get your hands on book two in the duet.

This is the first book in a 2 part series, know going into it that it ends in a cliffhanger. (This is something I always want to know when I'm looking at books)
Dante Moretti has left Italy for a new start in Connecticut at an exclusive rich kids university. This is where he first crosses the path of Victoria Waldorf, who is a student in his violin class, and maybe his nephew's girlfriend.
Victoria Waldorf has plans, and those don't include marrying who her mother has chosen for her. Nor do they include meeting the terms of her trust fund, she plans on doing things her way with her friend Ellie.
Turns out that Dante's late brother is in debt for millions to a mobster. Liam sees the only way out is to marry Victoria for her trust fund, and settling his score. But is that really his plan?!
Dante must navigate what he knows about the mafia, as well as try and keep Victoria safe all the while he's trying to preserve her dreams.
I love the slow burn between Dante and Victoria. There's an age gap, as she's his nephew's age. He doesn't want to like her, but oh how she ignites a few flames with in. Victoria is a spicy one, challenging Dante every step of the way, stubborn wanting to do things her way. Which occasionally gets her into more trouble.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review

Let me start by saying this is book 1 of a duet and I pretty much never read books that end on a cliffhanger. I read this because I love Josephine Jade's other books and boy was I not disappointed. Far from it. This book was just WOW! It grabbed me from page one and did not let go. Dante, our male lead, started off just gruff and hostile and I wasn't sure I would like him let alone love him. By about half way through this book I was all onboard. He is older and certainly tougher and more cynical than our female lead but it all fit his background, fit him. Plus without his surly nature I'm not sure he would have made sense in the context of this story. Totally opposite of him his Victoria, our female lead, who is young (in college), full of dreams, a desire to break free from her parents, and a bit naïve. She just rubs Dante wrong from the second they meet but you can just feel the undercurrent of desire between them. I never like to give any plot away so no spoilers from me. What I will say is that Dante's nephew is Victoria's boyfriend at the start of our story and he drags her into a dark world she to save his own skin. Dante just cannot allow this to happen and his desire to help her quickly morphs into his desire to keep her. Book one ends on a cliffhanger and I'm jumping right into book 2. I can't wait to see what Dante does next!

Bound in Debt Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I’m a sucker for a good mafia romance and this book didn’t disappoint at all. Josephine Jade has entered the realm of mafia stories with this first book in a duet. Dante is the grumpy not even close to sunshine violin professor who truly despises the rich entitled students he has to deal with. Victoria is the stunning, alluring, rich kid student that could care less about all the money her family has, let alone doing anything her mother tries to force her into. By a random twist of fate Dante finds Victoria playing the violin in his classroom and does everything in his power to make her leave as quickly as possible until his sniveling nephew appears. Dante would give anything to have his brother back and be rid of his sister in law and nephew knowing they truly only care about money and status. However his brothers actions cause all of their lives to become entwined together and even though Dante could just walk away. Something about Victoria keeps him from walking away from her. This story has some truly delicious twists and turns as well as some passion, humor, sadness, pain and true fear. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to see how it ends since I’m left on a cliffhanger……..well done Josephine Jade IM HOOKED!!!!

Such a brilliant start to the duet.  Dante was just the ultimate male character. I loved him.  Tough,  smart and protective.

This was about Dante a violin professor at Thronewood university who is pushed into a bad situation,  and Victoria, a student who is being forced into an arranged marriage with someone she doesn't want.

It has a Mafia theme,  but also university as well.  Full of drama, danger, suspense and intensity that really carried the story.

These two truly had the most amazing chemistry from the start.  Although she was a brat and he was annoyed with everything she did,  they both were attracted to each other.  That really showed throughout this part of the story.  Their romance wasn't the usual way it normally goes but it was never ever dull.

I really can't wait for the second book in the duet.  These two characters really had me compelled with their story and makes me hang out to find out what happens next.

So well done. Truly a delight to read.  A brilliant book!!

A grumpy older ex mafia man who has cut ties to that world and moves to the U.S. to be with his brother and to teach at the University, gets drawn into debt after his brother dies and get tangled up with a student. Dante left his old life and now he is back into it, no thanks to his nephew Liam and his on and off girlfriend, Victoria. Little does she know that Liam has put her into a situation after announcing their engagement, an engagement she wants no part of and has actually broken off things for good with Liam. She also doesn’t know that now that the fake announcement is out, her life is in danger and not just from the mob and Dante steps in to help her out.
Soooo good, the build up between Dante and Victoria, the tension and sparks….whoweee. Secrets, twists and turns, steam, danger, older man/younger woman, and the flow of the story kept me turning the pages and the ending had me reaching for the second book to see how it all turns out.

Intense, Enemies-to-Lovers, Mafia Romance

Is he an angel, or is he the devil? Can he be something in between? Victoria is a fan of her professor, but their first meeting does not go well at all. Dante is an unapproachable jerk. His attitude does not seem to improve, but the two are attracted to each other, and danger will bring them together, willing or not.

Dante and Victoria’s destinies become inextricably linked, and Dante turns from jerk to protector in the blink of an eye. Dante’s nephew wants to marry Victoria; she wants nothing to do with the marriage. However, Victoria has a trust fund, and the mob wants it. Treachery and violence are the name of the game.

Dante was a part of the mob, and he left Italy and came to the US to leave that life. However, that might prove impossible. His late brother owed the mob six million dollars, and he must pay.

In this steamy, action-packed romance, things will turn deadly. This story will keep you turning the pages, but for all the answers, you must read the next book.

Victoria, Liam, and Dante are all caught up in a situation through no fault of their own. They have to figure out how to save themselves from the mob. Liam and Victoria has been dating but he only wanted to use her for her trust fund to save himself, because she was with Liam the mob is going after her as well, and Dante who is Liam's uncle steps in because he doesn't want to see Victoria used and thrown away.
To get her trust fund Victoria has to get married and if the mob doesn't get their money they are coming after her. She can either marry Liam who she's seen what a horrible guy he actually is; or she can marry Dante 20 years her senior who wants to help her out but points out that once things are fixed their marriage is done.
She chooses Dante and Liam becomes unhinged; at the same time feelings are developing between Dante and Victoria.
The story ends at a really bad place and I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens.

Yikes! What a great spin and entry into the mafia romance world. Dante Moretti is a man who has a checkered past but he is now in the US to teach violin at the local college - Thronewood. He slowly begins to learn about his recently deceased brother and his secrets as the shadows begin to come out into the light. Victoria Waldorf is a music, business and culinary student with big goals and larger dreams. She is not your typical high maintenance socialite. Family complications bring these two unexpected characters together.as.they collaborate to find a way out of debt to the local mob. Unexpected feelings are developing between Dante and Victoria but this cliffhanger ending shows us that not all T's were crossed in their multi layer plan. I loved this story, the characters and I cannot wait for more in part two of this duet.
Enjoy!

4 1/2 STARS!

Exhilarating and highly addictive! The first book in Josephine Jade's Bound Series Duet reeled me in from the very first page and quickly had me hooked and looking for more. The groundwork of the story is laid out to the reader fairly quickly as the core characters are developed. I wanted a little more depth put into Dante's past, but the current happenings were fast paced and well presented. The angst and sexual tension are high as the story falls into place and once Dante and Victoria combine forces, all bets are off and the passion is off the charts. I enjoyed both the danger and the heat as the story progressed. This particular book ends on a cliffhanger, but the second part of the duet releases the same day. Overall, a highly enjoyable read with lots of drama to hold your attention!

The first book in a Bound Series a dark mafia romance.
Dante takes a job as a professor at Thronewood. A violin teacher to be exact. When one of his students one Victoria Waldorf is in his class. She’s not what he expected. But something happens which leads Dante and Victoria into something that neither saw coming . I wasn’t sure how I felt about him in the beginning, but all in all it was good.

The ending was good, and I could not wait to read Book 2.

Check the triggers if you have any issues with things, but there was nothing I had issues with.
I thank Ms. Jade for warning and to tell us the reader to check it out.

I loved this first part of the duet (needless to say, since it's a duet it ends in a cliffhanger). Dante is a grumpy, ex-mafia member who finds himself drawn into protecting one of his students thanks to his brother's debts. Victoria has no interest in getting married or having children. She has plans to move to Paris and hopefully open a bakery at some point. While I'm not necessarily a fan of stories where there is a huge age gap between the main characters, Victoria does act more mature than would be expected of a 20-year-old. I loved the interactions between these two - especially how she kept him on his toes, although at the same time unwittingly put them in danger.

This book was written so well ,the words just flowed. The story and writing captivated me and I couldn’t put this down!

Neither Dante or Victoria came across as particularly likeable at the start of the book, but I liked that!

I loved hearing the story from Dante’s viewpoint, he highly entertained me! The pull between the pair felt very real, I loved Dante’s dominant and protective side. I love a grumpy hero and Dante certainly fit the bill!

This does end in a cliffhanger and is a duet, but happily book 2 releases straight away.

A fantastic read and one I highly recommend.

Victoria, or Vee, is flourishing despite her parents involvement or lack there of. She is majoring in music at Thornwood and studying at a culinary college across town.
Dante is teaching violin at Thornwood after getting out of prison in Italy and leaving the mob. He comes to the states to be with his brother’s widow and nephew.
He gets pulled into the family drama here with millions of dollars owed to the mob. His family’s schemes bring him and Vee together in a way he never wanted.
FYI this book ends in a cliffhanger.

I was pulled right into this story. This is a 2-part story so be prepared to get both parts. The story has pain, secrets, danger, and heartbreak.

This is Victoria and Dante’s story. When trying to get out of the mafia life he takes a job as a professor teaching violin. His student Victoria is not what he was expecting at all. When she needs help he steps up. But his is not all that happy about it. The drama that surrounds them quickly gets out of control. This book ends on a cliffy but that is to be expected.

I recommend this book.

Dante is an ex-mafia man who had to leave that life behind and move to the US. His brother helped him get a job as a music professor, where he thought he'll find peace. But life has a way of messing up your plans and he gets involved a student.

When Victoria is thrown into his family chaos, Dante is determined to keep her safe. The tensions between our MC's was of the charts but wanting peace and coming to it, will be far from easy. The danger, mystery and chemistry kept me on my toes and i cant wait to start the next instalment to see how this story unfolds

This is such a brilliant read from a new author to me.
Dante has left his past behind to start a new life away from the mafia to start teaching violin at a preppy school. When what trouble his brother was in before his death is now his problem he doesn't want anything to do with it until he finds innocent Victoria is caught up in it.
He gets closer to her to try to fix it but when things change for the worse he does the only thing he can.
Will he be able to keep her safe and get them both out of it.
Ends on a massive cliffhanger.

I was immediately caught up in this story. My heart couldn’t help but connect with Victoria. She’s caught in a situation she had no control over and nearly all her options are bad ones. She had a pretty wide bratty streak that drove me a bit mental, but I kind of adored Dante and his ability to rein her back in, even if he was frequently a jerk. This ended with one heck of a cliff-hanger and I’m beyond grateful that I can immediately dive into the next book to learn how it will all turn out.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

I love mafia romances and have read quite a few, and I feel like it’s one of those tropes that can get very cliché, very quickly. Bound in Debt and Bound in Promise weren’t cliché at all though, and I loved them both! The love story was a bit of a slow burn but when their feelings finally started changing from obligation to love (ok, with a pit stop in lust and obsession before actual love) all bets were off. I loved that this story had so many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I couldn’t put these books down and I can’t wait for more from Josephine Jade!

BOUND IN DEBT
BOUND SERIES BOOK 1 JOSEPHINE JADE
This is a new author to me and she will definitely be one I read more of.
From the very beginning you are drawn into the drama and have to keep reading to see what Victoria and Dante are facing. Will they be able to make a plan and overcome the obstacles? Only strong characters will survive. There is a cliffhanger BUT book 2 comes out the same day.

Awesome intense romantic suspense. Dante is teaching the violin at a preppy, trust fund college. Victoria is a college student that longs to get away from parental controls. Dante finds out his dead brother owes the mob $6 million dollars. This book has it all: age gap, mystery, danger and more. The characters and storyline are wonderful. It is a cliffhanger. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more books by Ms Jade.

This is book 1 in the series about Dante who takes a job as a violin instructor to get away from his mob ties with his family. Victoria is one of his students and he notices something isn't right and she may be in trouble and is being used as a pawn in a game that involves his family. This book ends on a cliffhanger, but since book 2 comes out at the same time, it's easy to start reading what happens next and it's a definite must read!

I will be honest and say I am not a big fan of cliffhanger books. I have read several in the past so I am always willing to give them a try. This is one that I would highly recommend giving a try because it is well worth the read and the second book is out at the same time! The characters are amazing and the story line keeps you glued to your kindle. Josie's books are always wonderful reads and this one is no different.

I am always a little leery of stories that include de mob, I don't know why because the stories are often very good. Maybe it is the betrayal, violence and cruelty associated with it. This however, does have a certain something that keeps you reading. You want to know more about Dante and Victoria. How will he keep her safe without being someone he doesn't want to be. Will they survive with eachother or apart? Remember, this is just part 1. Things will nog be quite solved in the end.
