Seventeen-year-old Lucy is a talented grifter, having been taught by the best-her con artist mother, Annie. After reading an obit in The Times-Picayune regarding the death of Judith Randolph in a car accident, Lucy and her roommate, Jake, investigate the New Orleans Randolph family-they're filthy rich, and Judith died childless. Armed with a phony birth certificate, IDs, and a photo of Judith from her finishing school yearbook, Lucy steps off the Greyhound in New Orleans as Lydia Randolph, Judith's orphaned daughter. Having found the perfect, unsuspecting shill, Lydia is graciously welcomed into the family and offered lucrative opportunities.
