It's been ten years since the incident that changed my life. I haven't let anyone in since and it was supposed to stay that way - until him. Jae Summers, the soldier that became mine. We made a promise to each other but when it's time for him to leave, my world begins to crumble. I do the one thing I promise him I'd never do. I end us. When we've only just begun.
I thought I was better off alone.
Until we cross paths again. And I can't help but wonder, Is it too late to fix what I broke?
Never too late is a 18+ second chance romance which does involve scenes which may be heavily triggering to some. Mental health also plays a large role in this story and others within this series. Please be aware of the content warnings before going ahead. Your mental health matters.
Living in the UK, V Wynters enjoys writing about romance, no matter the individuals background or gender, mixed with some heart break, healing and angst.
“I hope we find each other as stars someday. I don’t want us to be destined for tragedy, searching the skies for all of time but never finding one another.” “I’ll find you no matter how many stars there are. You’ll always shine brighter than anything else.”
it's been a while since a book has given me a good cry. i'm in awe of all the characters and this storyline and the fact that this is a DEBUT? i knew as soon as i started reading the prologue (i was bawling my eyes out), i knew this was going to leave an imprint on my heart. 😭
dax what a precious baby that deserves to be protected at all costs. his story will stay with me for a long time. he's one of the most relatable characters i've read about. him not believing he was worthy of love, and that he did not deserve to be happy was heart wrenching because this baby deserved it all and more. and then there's the most book boyfriend to ever book boyfriend, jae. it's easy to see that v wynters has a way of creating characters with such deep depth, i was captivated by all their stories. i never thought i could love jae more than i already did, but somehow it just kept happening. everyone should have a person like jae in their lives. i can't describe the amount of comfort his character gave me and it was totally understandable why dax was so in love with him. because who wouldn't be???
the side characters! wow. they may have been side characters but they were so very present in this story. for those who love the found family trope, this is perfect. i honestly adored idah, ty, noah, novah....just as much as jae and dax.
also, if i wasn't already crying, the journal entries at the beginning of each chapter finished the job. they were so beautifully poetic and emotional. i almost highlighted every single one. example:
"I still sleep on the left side of the bed. I keep the right side empty. I will keep it empty, waiting for you." - i'm pretty sure i am irrevocably changed as a person after i read this for the first time 😭😭😭
”I'd still do it again with you even knowing our ending.” - you don't even know the mess this made me. i was sat there with my kindle reading the whole next chapter through teary eyes because of this quote. if this doesn't prove how much they love each other, then i don't know what love even is 😭
this is the type of book to have emotional driven sex scenes. this is not a smutty focused book which i appreciated so much. i will always pick seeing an emotional connection and a character driven book over anything else (not that there is anything wrong with a spicy book, i still read and enjoy them lol). so when the scenes do come, they are even better because you know the characters are so in love with each other and it makes it that much more meaningful.
AND THE PRETTY BOY AND SUNSHINE PET NAMES UGHHHHHHHH 🫠🫠🫠 v wynters knew what she was doing with those ones.
what to expect: 💫 second chance 💫 autism, mental heath, & ptsd rep 💫 found family with the best side characters 💫 slow burn 💫 angst 💫 will make you believe love is real 💫 will make you cry (in a good way) 💫 first book in a series
tyler’s book is up next and i'll be counting down the days until i get to read it because we meet him and his love interest in this book, and i've grown attached to them so much already.
I’ve received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
Nerver Too Late is a debut novel from V Wynters coming August 20th!

soulmate /ˈsoʊl.meɪt/ noun. our missing piece. a connection of minds and unconditional, effortless, never ending love. a person with whom you feel the most complete. one whose presence brings you a sense of calm, peace and happiness.
destiny or fate, it was meant to be.
V's writing is beautiful, even poetic in some ways.
This book follows Jae (sunshine) Summers and Dax (pretty boy) Whitmore unconditional love story. As they navigate through their struggles, they find their way to each other again. They are definitly the definition of soulmates and the first love is never forgotten.
Ugh where can I find my Jae? That man is everything. The way he was always ready to fight Dax's battles just so he doesn't have to suffer.
I feel like everyone in this book were so emotional (in a good way lol), men crying? YES! Also the friendships were the cutest, Idah helped a lot our boys while dealing with her deamons. Honestly can't wait for her book (hopefully?).
And last but not least, the award for the best brother in the world goes to? TYLER WHITMORE!! *clap clap*
“Beautiful. Everything about you is beautiful. Especially your mind. The way you see things. The way you understand things differently.”

✧・゚: *𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞*:・゚✧ is the story Jae and Dax. After getting injured, Jae wants to start new and he moves to the small town where he knows Dax is. We follow them through finding each other again and overcoming struggles.
I was already crying in the prologue so be prepared lol. Dax definitely made me cry at times and Jae, my sunshine, Jae WHERE ARE YOU IRL. The most patient, attentive boyfriend. The relationships were so heartwarming, Idah and Jae, Bernie and Jae, Isaac and Jae..etc. But let’s not forget my baby, the best brother anyone could ever ask for Tyler Whitmore. The man that you are ugh. His relationship with Dax was so so sweet and sad at the same time.
V. Winters’ writing is truly beautiful, this is her debut and i can’t wait to see what she releases after Never too late.(hopefully Noah’s story or Idah’s story. please please please let it be idah)
i received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review
Let me start by saying it’s soooo nice to read a book set in the UK. This book makes it into my top tier book settings because a cute little Welsh coastal town? Sold!
This was a slow burn which I always say I hate but I’m actually a liar because I lap it up lol.
Some parts of this book were difficult to read for me but in a good way? A lot of the time when I read book with autistic characters I struggle with how palatable their autism is made. Like it’s a quirky superpower and not something that can be incredibly difficult to live with and also difficult for your friends and family at times as well. I found myself getting mad at Dax for the same things I get mad at myself about. He was a lovable character but he felt like a realistic portrayal of an autistic person. I also liked the fact that finding the love of his life didn’t just make him ‘overcome’ all his autistic traits which is a pet peeve of mine.
The author also did a great job with the side characters in this. I loved them all and I’m excited to see where she goes with the rest of this series.
Dax and Jae. Pretty Boy and his Sunshine. They are actual sweethearts.
I am going to be completely honest, I am not the biggest second chance romance lover.. but I was so excited for this book I was willing to give it a good chance. And my goodness I loved the realness vibe of this story, it deals with some heavy mental health themes (PTSD from the army & Depression). With that I felt like it made Dax and Jae’s story such a sweet heartfelt romance of two sad broken souls who are getting their second chance with each other.
The quotes at the beginning of the chapters? Literal tears. Those were one of my favorite part. It felt like an extra flashback into their minds. 😭 (and yes I did ask V for a full version of these quotes because I need to SOB.)
I absolutely LOVE the brother relationship of Dax and Tyler. Well actually I loved every single character in this story 🥹
V thank you so much for this ARC and responding to ALL my messages while reading your beautiful book 🫶🏼
I just couldn’t really get into this :/ the conversations were awkward and I felt like a lot of the dialogue was characters over explaining what was going on instead of there being any sort of “showing” it was just telling
i received an arc for this book and here are my thoughts!
i actually thought this was so sweet, the representation was very wonderful and was like a breath of fresh air (im very picky when it comes to asd representation) this author did a great job, definitely recommend this!
@authorvwynters, thank you ❤️ Thank you for this beautiful story, thank you for sharing Dax and Jae with us, because this is a beautiful love story with 2 more beautiful men.
This book gave me that tingly feeling in my stomach.. I think I just fell in love with Jae & Dax.
First I felt desperation.. I hated how Dax was feeling and how people treated him, he was just so lost especially when tragedy hit their family 💔 But his brother Tyler OMG he is an Angel.. he gave up his life for Dax.
And then Jae ❤️ Oh boy how much I love Jae... He is fighting his own demons, but no demon is strong enough to keep him from his True Love. His love for Dax is so deep he loves so strong, no words.... just speechless. I love him.
This is a love story with all the feelings.. With 2 beautiful characters.. But lets not forget "𝗧𝘆𝗹𝗲𝗿" he is the perfect big brother, an angel, such a fun character and he gave this story so much extra.
How happy I was when I saw the next book is about TYLER ❤️
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Second chance, ex-military, past trauma, grief, mental health, autism, PTSD… My angst-loving self was euphoric when I downloaded the book. I was sure I'll love it - unfortunately I didn't, and I'm terribly sorry about that.
Jae is discharged from the army due to a serious injury and decides to move to where he hopes Dax lives. Dax, with whom they exchanged many letters, Dax, who broke up with him in one of his letters and asked him not to write him anymore, he won't either.
I liked the first few chapters - the reader gets a glimpse into Dax's past, the tragedy that happened ten years ago. After that, however, my interest gradually decreased, the book could not maintain my attention.
The basic idea of the story is very good, but I feel that something went wrong with the implementation. I missed the boys' past relationship. I saw their first meeting - it couldn't have been more than two or three pages - I saw that it was a mutual "love at first sight" thing between the two of them; then I saw them saying goodbye to one another. I liked that Jae gave Dax his dog tag (when it was brought up the tenth time I was annoyed by it), it was quite an emotional scene. However, I didn't see anything else about their relationship. What did they like about each other? What were they talking about? How old were they when they met? How long were they together before Jae had to go to Afghanistan? How long have Jae served in the army? I could hardly place anything in time. I was left with a million questions that I didn't get an answer to, and I am incredibly disappointed that from the letters I could only read the excerpted lines that were given at the beginning of the chapters - and they didn't give me anything "plus". I didn't see anything important from their past, both boys remained distant to me, so I couldn't appreciate their present and their second chance.
I missed the military parts on Jae's side. I missed the consequences.
Idah, as a side character who seemed important at the beginning, seems to have ceased to exist in the second half of the book - in some places she was mentioned for a few sentence, but I can't believe that the interaction between her and the boys was reduced to such a minimum. Speaking of which... Why didn't our boys communicate with each other?! There were so many scenes where they sat next to each other in complete silence... Sometimes silence is necessary and good, I agree, but it was a lot to read about nothing so many times.
What I really liked, and was new information for me, is the existence/use of Makaton.
All in all, this is not a bad book, the topics involved are important, this is obvious, but the story could not pull me in. I'm sorry. :(
I received an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 3.5 ⭐
Never Too Late is V Wynters’ debut novel, that I had the pleasure to read before its release date, on the 20th August. It follows the story of Jae Summers and Dax Whitmore, respectively the Sunshine and the Pretty Boy (special mention for the nicknames; they were so on point!).
First of all, I’d like to say that V Wynters’ writing is really immersive and beautiful. I was hooked since the first chapter, and couldn’t put the book down. The beginning was really emotional too, and it’s safe to say that I did shed a few tears. The author definitely knows how to write true angst.
I love when the relationship and the feelings between the characters are the focus instead of their intimacy. It’s really hard to find that these days, and it made me happy to see that the author chose this path. We follow Jae and Daw through their journey towards a second chance at love, with healing and acceptance, and I rooted for them ‘till the end! Their happy ending was well deserved.
The characters, side characters included (Tyler and Idah), were amazing. Jae was probably my favorite because his personality resonated with me. Always putting on a smile, even when he’s not okay, being a pilar for both Dax and his best friend, Idah. Such a green flag! Dax made me emotional too. His own struggles were heartbreaking, he really deserves a big hug, which he thankfully got! I’m glad he wasn’t alone in this: Tyler, his amazing brother who’s always there for him, and of course, his sunshine. His point of view was so interesting, and the way he saw the world, and Jae was beautiful. His mental health was beautifully portrayed; the author did a good job at this.
With all these praises, you may ask why only three and a half stars rating? Well, for me, something was lacking. Even though, we went at the bottom of Dax’s neurodivergence, we didn’t really get a closure about Jae’s struggles and issues. He had panic attacks, two times if I remember correctly, and that was it. It wasn’t addressed anymore. I thought maybe he would’ve talked about it to Dax, but we didn’t get that...I know the focus was more on Dax, but I really wanted to read more about Jae’s mental health. In fact, I got the impression that it was always about Dax, and not enough about Jae.
I’ll gladly come back to this series to discover Tyler’s book, and hopefully Idah’s. This girl deserves her own story. Oh, and I think we might even get Noah’s story…with maybe Ace? (The author mentioned another MM story so…).
Overall, it was a wonderful story. I was glad to meet these boys <3
Dax and Jae's story deals with pretty heavy stuff and I think books like this are an important representation for conditions such as theirs.
Maybe it's just me reading in the wrong mood because I found it less engaging than I would've liked. The first chapters were walls of just narrations which in my opinion erased the connection I would've established with the characters. There were barely conversations I might as well read a memoir. Dax and Jae's past was told only through MCs' recollections, not proper separate chapters. The writing style also sounded too fanfic-ish for a published novel.
I feel kinda bad cos I want to like it, it has a good idea for the plot, just a little short on the execution part.
The cover is misleading too. I for sure thought this was about two former soldiers who met at war in like the 1940s so color me surprised to find out it's actually set in the present day.
I hope others had a different experience and enjoyed this better than I did.
There are so many things I would love to say about this story, but I think the best way to describe it is a simple word beautiful.
I fell in love with Dax and the unique way he sees the world around him. He is such a complex character, and quite often, he is his own worst enemy. There were so many moments when my heart hurt for him. His soul is pure, yet he doesn't see himself worthy of love. His way of thinking leads him to make regretful decisions along the way. The internal battle he fights every day against himself shows us a completely different side of autism. I honestly believe that V. made an amazing job with her neurodivergent representation. There is a darker side of autism that we don't talk about often.
Jae was a true sunshine of the story. The nickname is so fitting. The love, patience, and acceptance he has towards Dax just bring the smile to my face. His life was turned upside-down due to a horrible accident, and it wasn't easy for him to accept his new reality, but he didn't give up. He followed what his heart was telling him.
Fate put these two together and created something beautiful. Unfortunately, life can be unpredictable, and self-doubt can create unwanted obstacles on the way. Likely when something is meant to be, no matter the complications, distance, or time that have passed, can't keep the destined souls apart. And I truly believe Dax & Jae were meant to be.
I also have to mention some of the side characters. Everyone needs Tyler in their life. He is a perfect brother who didn't think twice and step in to take care of Dax when he needed him the most. I can't wait for his story. Idah, the tortured soul, I just want to see her happy because she deserves to love again.
I really hope you'll give this book a chance. If you are reading, I'm here for your thoughts 🩵
Never Too Late is the debut of author V. Wynters and what a beautiful debut. It is clear from the beginning that it's a book written with a lot of love, dedication and emotion.
The main characters are Dax and Jae, and seriously, can they be more adorable? 💛🤎
From the first moment they see each other, they fall madly in love and no matter how many obstacles they encounter along the way, they will always try to find each other.
Jae is all green flags, he is loving, patient, protective of Dax and he would do literally anything to see him happy. You will love Jae because it's impossible not to do.
And Dax is the most beautiful thing in the world. With his particularity in how he perceives the world around him, how he acts or does what he does and what he suffers as a result. I loved how Wynters treats Dax's autism and how you empathize with him at all times.
I loved the detail of starting each chapter with an emotional phrase. That was wonderful!
And it's not just Dax and Jae, but all the secondary characters that appear in the book make you fall in love with them from the beginning. There hasn't been any character that I haven't liked and knowing that several of them will have their own story makes me excited.
Tyler (or better call him the best brother in the world) is another of Dax's pillars, everything he does for his brother is simply admirable and it makes me very happy to know that he will be the next book because Tyler deserves all the happiness.
Idah's suffering is palpable and gets under your skin. I would have liked to know more about her since halfway through the book she loses a bit of prominence but knowing that she will also have her own story makes me calm and looking forward to her book.
The big surprise has been knowing who the protagonists of the third will be, because obviously you will already know who they are and omg, I need that book!! 😂😍
Without a doubt V. Wynters has made a wonderful debut and I am looking forward to reading much more of everything she is going to release. ❤️
I can't finish without telling you that you need to give "the pretty boy and his sunshine" a chance. ☀️🌻☀️🌻
Thank you V. Wynters for giving me the opportunity to arc, it has been a wonderful journey. I look forward to much more from all of them.
I received an arc of this book and this is my completely honest review.
➞ second chance ➞ lots of mental health rep ➞ autism rep ➞ small town ➞ MM
V. Wynters goes beyond when writing Dax's character and showcases that autism is not simply what we see or know as the common symptoms. It's a spectrum disorder. And just because it's not something we're used to reading with neurodivergent characters, doesn't make the character any less autistic. I applaud V for this representation. In her DEBUT, no less! It's different and frankly, refreshing. Seeing Dax's internal battles was so raw and emotional. The constant anguish and self-doubt he portrays is so real for anyone to relate to. And I love how he brightens up when Jae enters the picture again.
Now on to Jae 'sunshine' Summers. Such a fitting nickname for our damaged but always optimistic soldier. Still flawed, but always there to catch Dax. He was so sweet and loving! Their love for each other always held up after so many years and I loved seeing the lil snippets of their letters at the beginning of each chapter. There's growth in these characters, and it's not always upward. It's full of loops and hurdles and that's just life. ♡
My personal star of the show is Tyler. Big brother, carer, and protector. Our resident goofball shows many facets of his personality throughout the book. You can tell he's had the weight of the world on his shoulders very young and I can't wait to learn more about him!
I’m not sure if this is a debut novel but it reads a lot like one. I struggle with this one a lot, I’m not a fan of DNFing a book so I stuck with it but like I said, I struggled a lot. This book was plain frustrating and the ultimate tell and not show book. There’s Chapters and chapters of inner dialogue, in fact, the mc’s don’t interact with each other until 40% in, and it’s not even good built-up anticipation it’s annoying. The dialogue is weird, so are the conversations with others. The characters are highly underdeveloped and nothing is explained. The timeline of the relationship, not there. Their actual relationship, not there. There’s no explanations for why Dax broke up with Jae, or the extent of Jae’s injury whatever happened with Idah. Instead everything is so repetitive but without much context. I’m not sure if this book was professionally edited but this needed a good editor. Anyway, I had high hopes for this one, the cover is pretty and bookstagrammers were pimping it hard but it didn’t deliver.
This book isn't a slow burn. It's just a slow book.
These two were already very much in love with each other at the start of the book. It just takes a very long time for them to meet up again. But once they do, they instantly get back with each other. So there was no burning happening. It's just a lot of background info/setting up the story. We don't really see them fall for each other; we skip all the early dating parts. It wasn't a bad book, though.
I liked the dynamic they had, the characters had interesting struggles, and how they dealt with it. Most of the book is about their "traumas/issues" and healing each other. It was nice to see, but it did get a little bit boring by the end of the book. Also, the writing was a bit off for me, which made it harder to read.
I sound all negative in this review, but I did overall like it. I read over half of the book in one go because I was so into it. The second half just wasn't as good.
What a beautiful debut novel. This person truly had a talent for writing , and I look forward to seeing the progression and development of their style with future works. These two are truly soulmates and wish nothing but the best for them. I felt we got to know Dax and his struggles more so than we did with Jae. For me, a perfect story, you know both characters equally and in this story that was just lacking a little. With how beautifully done Dax wad justified in his struggles, I would have loved to see more of thst for Jae. By no means did that mean this was not a beautiful read it was, and I will try more in the future.

Personal Notes (from an Autistic Reader): I wanted to like this but the execution was not good. The Autism rep is alright but everything else is such a slog. Too much tell and not enough show, too much inner monologue (and that's coming from an autistic reader). The author seems to just skip showing us the characters falling in love but tells us over and over "they're so in love" (but why??? how, when, where?) (is this supposed to be a fanfic pairing that I'm unaware of?). It really bothers me that Idah just dissapears and no one goes to check on her (especially knowing what she's going through)!?
Also I can understand this is fiction but it feels so off for everyone in the story (especially in a small town) to be so informed and almost over-educated about autism (obviously it's supposed to be escapist but at times it comes off as almost preachy).
First, I want to thank the author V Wynters for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. Trusting your book baby with someone is scary, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. I spoke with the author a few weeks ago in the DMs and she is lovely!
Unfortunately, not every book is for everybody. On paper, this seemed like a slam dunk. As a Black autist, I absolutely love BIPOC and autistic rep in books, especially queer romances! I just couldn't get into this story. The pacing was too slow for me and I found it to be repetitive. I went in knowing this was a slow burn, and that's not the issue at all. It's the actual pacing of the plot that lost me.
I was also a bit confused by Jae. He's described multiple times as having dark skin, but in other parts of the book "all of the color" drains from his face and he goes pale. This isn't something that happens in those of us with dark skin due to our melanin. It took me out of the story trying to figure out what he looked like exactly.
I couldn't really connect with Dax or Jae and I wasn't rooting for them to be together. I finally had to DNF.
As you can see from the reviews, plenty of people loved this book!! Definitely give it a try and see if it's a good fit for you!
Who told you to break my heart in the 1st damn chapter? 🥺 My god, I couldn’t imagine waiting for someone and then getting told… 💔 that was hard. Moving onto my review.
I had to gather my thoughts because while I thoroughly enjoyed this book, there were some dislikes as well. This would’ve been a five-star read for me, but I had to knock it down to 4.7 stars, which is still pretty damn good.
I want to say that this was a beautifully written debut. So, so beautiful. I found myself highlighting every quote at the beginning of each chapter because I had a feeling those were a part of the letters between Jae and Dax. Heck, I found myself highlighting most of the book, lol.
This book is about Dax and Jae. Two people who met while Dax was in college. Fell in love, then one broke up with the other. (I’ll let all of you read for yourselves which one.)
Dax has always been different. Being autistic and not knowing until you’re grown had to be hard. He didn’t understand why his brain didn’t work in the way others did. He thought he was broken. Thought he didn’t deserve to be loved. Thought everyone would leave. Thought he was hurting people. Not to mention, struggles with depression. I’m here to say that he deserved so much more of everything in life. His backstory and then the present time just broke my heart. At times, it was hard to read Dax’s POV because he was struggling so bad. Throughout the whole book. My heart couldn’t take it.
Jae was discharged from the Army after… (I would rather not spoil it) but I’m pretty sure it’s easy to figure out. He struggles with PTSD, and my heart was also breaking for him whenever he would have a panic attack. The author wrote the PTSD, and Dax’s struggles with such care. I felt those were the most realistic parts of the book.
Jae. My sweet baby, Jae. He was such a green flag. I LOVE HIM. He OWNS my heart. OWNS IT! 🥹❤️ He was just amazing in every way. He put Dax before him time and time again. It was proof how deep his love for Dax ran. He wanted to take away all of Dax’s pain, his struggles, and fight every battle and storm that headed his way. I was swooning. Most of the highlights are from Jae’s POV. I just love Jae so much. 🥹 It’s not that I didn’t like Dax because I did… I just idk. It was Jae for me.
Here’s where I had some dislikes.
The book is mostly about Dax. Even in Jae’s POV. It was about Dax. I wish the author explored more of Jae’s struggles as well. His backstory. Even his friendship with Idah. Why didn’t he go to therapy for his PTSD? His panic attacks? Those two were very severe to his storyline. Dax wasn’t the only one who needed help, but Dax’s character was written almost as if he were more important than Jae’s. I still found myself loving Jae a little more than Dax.
I love Idah’s character. She was such an amazing friend to Jae and vice versa. They both experienced loss in different ways and became the emotional support both needed. More often than not in mm books, the female characters are written in a very sh*tty light, so I love how Idah was written. My biggest issue was: Why was she suddenly written in such a bad way? I don’t mean her character arc changing. I mean, she goes missing, and we never find out why. We never find out why she suddenly was distancing herself. Like what happened to put her in that mind frame. She was such a pivotal character in Jae’s pov, then suddenly wasn’t.
I didn’t like how when Idah came to Jae’s he had no time for her, then turned around to say “I have all the time in world for you, Dax.” In the same moment… she was there when Dax wasn’t. So I didn’t like how that was written. It’s almost like he suddenly wasn't concerned about Idah. She was an amazing side character that should’ve stayed that way throughout the rest of the book, but somehow barely existed when Dax was back in Jae’s life.
Tyler was an amazing brother! He and Idah became two of my favorite side characters. I felt so bad how he would think that he failed Dax when he didn’t. Hands down, one of my favorite brothers in a book. (I can’t wait to read his) I would also feel bad when Dax would think he’s all alone or that everyone leaves, when his brother has always been there.
The whole “I don’t care” about Noah was also something I didn’t like. I really don’t like when authors make it where characters don’t care as much or suddenly at all about people who have been there for them. Just for the sake of the other MC. That’s not what really happened, but Jae did cease to care about Noah’s state to run to Dax. Noah, who has been there for him through everything. It doesn’t have to be you only care about one person. You can care about multiple people and still love that one person with your entire soul. There’s no real conversation between Noah and Jae to resolve anything. Just a text. We never see Jae visit his god-daughter. We never see Jae read Dax’s letters. The letters, which were also pivotal to the book. Even when Dax was reading Jae’s letters, I wanted to know what they said, but sadly, we didn’t get much.
There were just, at times, some unnecessary chapters. It took three, maybe four chapters just for them to finally actually start the conversation. There was a lot of telling instead of showing. The author executed some parts perfectly, some parts beautifully, and others not so much.
A lot was done to stretch the book out. “The slowest of burns” was done because of this book being overly stretched out. We’re 30 chapters in out of fifty-something, and they still haven’t had a proper conversation. Only had one run in. I had to question how was Jae able to lift Dax with a gunshot wound that wasn’t healed? I did love this book. Truly love and adore it! It was just drawn out at times. The slow burn was poorly done. I could understand if they ran into each other in early chapters then it took a while for them to make it to their HEA, but it was almost if the author was purposely drawing out their interactions, which made this book a “slow burn”.
When we got to 70% until the end were my favorite parts of the book. So emotionally beautiful, I shed some tears.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
“Never Too Late” by V Wynters was a powerful, passionate, and heart wrenching story between two souls who have always been destined to be together. This debut novel was so beautifully written and takes you into the world of a love story that had an ending… but it wasn’t over yet. Jae and Dax are two of the most loving characters I have read in a while, and will make you believe that soulmates really exist and live in the stars.
Jae is a solider who has discharged from the Army due to an injury. The one place that makes sense to go to, to start over, is the same place he fell in love for the first time. Dax met the man of his dreams and then lost him to a deployment. The letters back and forth stopped being enough and his inner voice told him he wasn’t good enough. SO. This story picks up right there! Jae is moving to Whales and Dax has already taken up residency and opened his music shop with his brother. Wynters was KILLING me for like 35% of the book because they were just orbiting around each other without realizing it! 😫 It got my blood pumping just waiting for that moment there reunite… and it didn’t disappoint! I was rooting for them from the very beginning of the story alllllllll the way to their HEA. These two were the most precious MCs and what I wouldn’t give to be a part of their world 24/7🥹
I have a read numerous books with neurodivergent characters, but Dax was new to me. I appreciated how well his character was written! Dax is different in the way he thinks, reacts, activities he is drawn to, and Jae is his perfect compliment. He never once wavers when Dax does something that maybe he wouldn’t do and loves him unconditionally because what makes Dax different is what makes him the most beautiful person in the world to Jae. My heart was so full when I got to the end of the book ❤️
I certainly was on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. I had tears of joy and heartache running down my face for more than 50% of this book. V Wynters wrote a love story that will forever live in my head rent free. Dax and Jae are so special. If you’re looking for a true love story, one that knows no boundaries and keeps all promises and has a strong level of commitment, then this is a must read for you! I can’t wait for more from this series!
I have a lot of thoughts about this one. And not all of them are going to be bad ones. As maybe you can tell by the rating. All in all, I have mixed feelings. This plot had a lot of potential to be a phenomenal read. For me, it wasn't bad and most of my issues are with the first half. But I didn't fall in love with it like I thought I could. Which makes me so sad.
First off, I think the beginning was a bit slow and I didn't find myself captivated. It took a long time for the two MCs to actually interact other than a couple of flashbacks. I also found that the dialogue was rather lengthy. Especially for Dax, who I would picture as a character who wouldn't talk much. Considering how he is. It was the same lengthy dialogue for almost all characters and conversations. This isn't the worst thing, but it felt unrealistic at times.
That all being said, I didn't dislike the book. I actually found it to be very sweet at times. My heart broke for Dax and the self hatred he often showed. Thinking he was too broken to still be with Jae/for Jae to love him. Then there's Jae who is really just a sweetheart all around. Also having some doubt about Dax still wanting him. While I think it was a little abrupt how it went to them being together again, I didn't hate that much.
I think one of my favorite parts of this is Tyler, Dax's brother. Their relationship was sweet and I loved how he wanted what was best for his brother. In a way, it reminds me of me and my sibling. I relate to Tyler a lot in many ways.
If you don't like books that are very slowburn, I wouldn't suggest this one.
1st- I'm an ADHD person with anxiety, depression, and c-ptsd. 2nd- I want to acknowledge and agree with the note in the beginning of the book and say that all neurodivergent people are different, and experiences come in all shapes and sizes.
I had so many emotions while reading this book. I laughed, I cried, I felt the panic, I worried, but mostly i related. I related a lot to Dax- his mannerisms, how overwhelmed he gets and how he responds to that, how he sees himself. The character of Idah really got me too. She is going through so much, but all she wants is to help everyone else.
Jae and Tyler- I cannot put in to words how beautiful their individual relationship with Dax is. They are both so understanding and supportive and let Dax just "be". They are wonderful and each deserve the world.
There are several other characters in this story that i absolutely adore, but go read the book and fall in love with all of them like i did! This story is an incredible journey filled with loss, grieving, second chances and ultimately healing. It is a roller coaster of emotions from start to finish but it is so insightful and shows a side of autism that isn't all quirks and cute traits, its raw and real and messy, but the outcome is so inspiring!
Never too Late is the book I didn't know I needed and I'm so glad I found. It has made me feel seen and understood in a way that I have never felt before. I cannot wait to read more books by V Wynters!!
“Never Too Late” is the story of Dax and Jae. A love that happened quickly, was so strong and all consuming, but also ended too soon.
Let’s start with Dax, our sweet, flower loving boy. He struggles communicating with others and expressing his feelings, but found a way to do so through music and flowers. He thinks differently than others, but his mind is something beautiful. He meets Jae the summer before his senior year of college and the two are instantly drawn to one another. But when Jae leaves for tour, their relationship suffers.
Speaking of Jae, ugh that man. He’s a solider with the world’s biggest heart. He loves deeply, protects those he cares about, and his heart will forever belong to Dax. He loves Dax for everything he is and no one can change his mind. When an incident causes Jae to get discharged, he moves to the town where he fell in love and just like sunflowers, is hopeful he’ll get his love back.
If you’re a lover of emotional reads and slow burns, then you need to check out V Wynters’s debut! “Never Too Late” is filled with pain, loss, found families, flowers, and love. Dax and Jae’s relationship is a long journey and so beautiful. I’m in love with all the characters in this book and can’t wait to get of this series.
Reading this book, you can tell that V Wynters has poured her soul onto these pages and it's a privilege to read a story so fraught with emotion. Dax's journey towards getting a diagnosis of autism is tumultuous, and Wynters doesn't shy away from showing the aspects of autism that are difficult to cope with, whilst also showing that he deserves love, and patience, and understanding. The hurt that Dax feels every day is palpable, and the way his POV is written gives an insight into the way he thinks, and also the way he loves so fiercly. Jae is perfect for him, giving him space when he needs it and always looking to understand Dax and what he's feeling, when often Dax is expressing things differently to others. He sees Dax trying to push away, and he knows when he needs to let him and when he needs to hold on tight. I loved Jae's sunshine personality, but he also has his fair share of struggles after leaving the army. She wasn't joking when she said it was a slow burn but this feels exactly right for these characters. They're soulmates who are slowly finding their way back together. The setting of the small town works so well, and I loved the introduction to characters who I hope will make appearances in future books. This book was so much more than a romance, exploring lots of friendships and family bonds. I'm really looking forward to Tyler's story next- maybe this one will hurt a little less?!
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. One of the things I appreciate most about ARC copies is that they introduce me to books I might not have picked up on my own, and this novel was no exception.
Overall Impressions: This book is a charming read with a lot of heart. It’s a slow burn, but it’s the kind of story that grows on you as you delve deeper into the lives of its characters. The two main characters, Dax and Jae, have a history that’s both painful and complicated. After Dax ends their relationship with a letter while Jae is deployed in Afghanistan, they unexpectedly find themselves living in the same town in Wales, offering them a second chance at love.
Theme: M/M second chance autism, mental Health, & PTSD found family slow burn (VEERY) the first book in a series
why 3 1/2 stars - I prefer med/fast-paced so the slow speed made it a bit difficult for me to read the book - there was some inconsistency in the book especially regarding the relationship between Dex and his brother. - I would have preferred to know more about other symptoms of autism and more importantly, how the two main characters deal with their partner's emotional and health issues.
overall , it was a nice novel and i would probably want to read book once it's out as a way of checking in on the gang.
