This was worth every! freaking! cent!!!
If there's anyone who hasn't watched Arcane yet, cancel your weekend plans and do it!!!

This book is the ultimate look behind the scenes of this masterpiece of a show, filled with insights from the developers and animators, gorgeous paintings and lots of easter eggs.

I basically know the show by heart (Jinx impacted me so much I started dyeing my hair blue 💙) and reading and looking through this was an amazing way of re-entering this world.

I guess all I can say is thank you Riot and Fortiche for giving us these characters, world and story!

Low four stars. This book was a beautiful in-depth look at the behind the scenes of the show, but I do kind of wish it focused more on the art aspect.

Obviously this book is gorgeous, because, you know, Arcane. But most of the writing in the book is focused on writing the story of the show rather than the art, which, while interesting, was a bit disappointing, at least to me. There’s already a several-episode behind the scenes look at the development process that’s been available on YouTube since the end of the season 1, so I was hoping to get more substantial new stuff than just tidbits. I also thought the writing got a little repetitive after a while; it felt like they were just saying the same stuff in each section.

Aside from that, though, I LOVED this book. It came with all sorts of extra bonus material, like a Jinx wanted poster and Vander’s letter to Silco, for instance. The art was jaw-dropping, and there were a bunch of really neat glimpses at the storyboarding phase. I did really like the Jinx scribbles all over the book, but there were definitely a few places where I wish it was a bit more toned down so I could see concept art better. True to Arcane fashion, the book was organized nicely under exceedingly long chapter titles that probably could have been shortened but made sense after reading the chapter.

Yeah. My only complaint is that I wish there was more focus on the art, but I’m very happy with what we did get to see. Maybe what I really need is some Arcane posters. . .

Eu ameiiiii!!!

Adorei demais!!!

What an incredible look into not only the art but full production of this series! I finally caved to my friends’ recommendations in the week leading up to the final act of season 2 and was so blown away by this show. The art, animation, found family plotlines and political relevancy all converge beautifully.

Ngl haven’t read ALL the text yet but I sat down and looked at every page as soon as I finally got it, and this is a proper ART book yo
Quality paper and prints within, some larger fold-out spreads of matte paintings - the worst part is knowing there is just so much more than what’s included in this book.

And lots of reading material to go with, though directed at a general audience.
The Anim/VFX industry person I am wants more nitty gritty details but I understand they’ve gotta keep the recipes for their special sauce somewhat mysterious, (and simplified).

My only actual qualm with this book is that pictures of artists at the studio are unnamed/uncredited, when they very easily could have been - like musicians are in the captions underneath their pics. Idk small thing that ticks me off just a little.

As far as art/concept books go, this is beautifully presented and really in depth. Any fan of Arcane should give this a look! (Also has cute surprises I didn't know it had going into it!)

Words can’t really do this show and this book justice. Arcane was the biggest passion project which inspired its fans to be equally passionate about its contents. From the music, to sonics, to voice actors, the story (and it’s keeping/expanding on LOL lore), and of COURSE the animation itself- this was decades in the making. I could go on and on and on about the show itself as it’s my special interest, but nothing can ever really compare to the greatness that is this show.

So interesting!! I’ve been a little (understatement) hyper-fixated on this show to say the least so my boyfriend giving me this book was soooo cool. Hopefully this changes animation for the better. There’s so much personality in every detail.

I do think the writing got slightly repetitive at times. Not only did they repeat sections but they showed some pictures twice and I feel like that could have been replaced by something more detailed. It would have been fun to see more of the artistic process but nonetheless it was a very informative book and the character design developments was so much fun to see. Probably my favourite part.

Awesome book, so thrilled to dive into all the details of creating something that indeed changed the world of animation. Didn’t want it to end, felt like a child with a treasure, because the book itself is a masterpiece.
Totally recommend to read if you enjoyed watching Arcane the same as I did, and then re-watch it to spot all the hidden (or not so hidden) gems creators have put in there.

Haven't fully read it, but from what I'm seeing right now, some of this book is annoyingly treated as Jinx's diary, and I am not fond of that. I paid to see insight on the creation of a good show, only for it to be scribbled on by a literal toddler it almost seems like.

Characters with tons of screentime aren't shown enough love, and some characters are only mentioned in passing (i.e., Sevika). You can almost see them losing the (2 citites, 2 sisters) plot in the artbook, too, sometimes.

But I do enjoy the little stinsels and posters that came with it. Again, it's heavily Jinx centered. Ppl are going to disagree with my disappointment about this, but I collect Artbooks, while the main character is always on the cover. The entire artbook is not only centering them.

Im sure as I read it, I'll come to love it.
One thing I also despised is the time bomb song getting an entire page and a long wall of text, while the development of Caitvi got nothing, infact the development of Timebomb AND Caitvi arent really mentioned. Jayce and Viktor get more pages than Ekko and Caitlyn, despite having less screentime at some points in the series as a whole, which annoyed me. Ekko's page looks like a scrap book that they tried to fill as much stuff in there as possible so they wouldn't have to talk about him later, Caitlyn’s first page is a .... family portrait and a wall of text and then an underdone second page, I wanted more of these 2.

There are a lot of screenshots from the show, I didn't buy a photo album, I want the sketches and concepts. Back to the 2 sisters, 2 cities thing, Jinx gets more pages than Vi, which I guess you could chop that up to the Powder AU, but at the same time, there are a bunch of things in Vi's design and story that deserved to be talked about in this artbook.

But once again! Maybe I'll feel different when I complete it
