“No.7 Mistfall Lane” by Katherine Black is an outstanding horror and paranormal story! The twist at the end was truly surprising—I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was completely captivated and found myself on the edge of my seat, eager to see what would happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it!

Well, all I can say is the main character in this book, Valerie Archer, is made of sterner stuff than I am! I doubt I would have lasted even one night in No.7 Mistfall Lane! Valerie is reluctant to leave her home and move to the new house, but her marriage to Robert is falling apart and he leaves her with little choice. And so they move to the fire-ravaged old house with their little daughter, Jasmine, and the renovations are soon underway. However, the terror is unrelenting as Robert descends into madness, and her daughter’s imaginary friend seems more than a little sinister. The tension builds throughout the book, gripping the reader until the very last page and even then there are unanswered questions. A great story.

Gripping, spooky, and wonderful.
What an opening chapter! It's heartbreaking, gripping, and full of intrigue. Setting a spooky and apprehensive introduction.
I really enjoyed this author's writing style. She's quickly able to pull you into the story. To save Valerie's marriage, but more importantly to keep custody of her 5-year-old daughter Jasmine, she has to walk away from her farmhouse, a house that's been in her family for generations. It's a decision heaped in threats and ultimately the only decision she can make after her indiscretion. She loved her husband, Robert, once; surely she can love him again?
After winning No. 7 Mistfall Lane at auction, Robert feels victorious and forges ahead with renovation plans. Only this house has a dark past. A fire raged through it in 1867, and subsequent fires have taken place since. Although the house is still standing, retaining some original features, it's in desperate need of renovation, with black walls charred with soot and the blackness of mould from rising damp. It's not the only darkness lingering within this property.
As they try to rebuild their marriage and tension is weaved into the narrative, you feel like a fly on the wall in a marriage counsellor's office as you hear each side of the argument and how each spouse's idiosyncrasies can aggravate over time from the other's perspective. It's more than that, though. More than the eerie feeling of an otherworldly presence, the house seems to be filtering into their minds and bringing irritability to the forefront.
I don't think this is an easy genre to crack, but Black masterfully conveys the oppressing malevolence within the house much like a painter would artistically brush strokes onto a canvas. There are lots of paranormal events that make the new owners question their sanity as the house chooses what they remember after each event.
This is quite intense at times due to the author's ability to evoke your emotions. There's lots of clever twists at the end to wrap everything up.

It doesn’t take long for Val, Rob, and daughter Jasmine to realize there is more at work in their burned-out new house than the drama they brought with them. As Val’s confusion and terror grows as she tries to understand the mysterious and frightening circumstances, Rob begins his own downward spiral into madness.
One of the best things about this story is that it feels novel, which is hard to come by in a nothing-new-under-the-sun world. Following it down through all the clever twists and turns, with the tension ratcheted up to ten, I found it incredibly easy to visualize the people, places, and happenings Black brought to life in my head. She paced it beautifully, the escalating suspense sending chill after chill down my spine. It’s easy to build an emotional connection to what’s happening to her characters and get invested in how it will all end. Speaking of how it all ends…well, it’s actually better not to. Suffice it to say, it’s unexpected.
There was a bit of inconsistent formatting. I noticed it, but it didn’t detract from my appreciation of the story.
I am a newly minted Katherine Black fan - she has a number of other books, and I will be reading more of them!

Spills, Thrills & Ghostly Chills
After a domestic betrayal, Robert and Valerie with their daughter Jasmine sell their family home and move to No. 7 Mistfall Lane, a house that Robert got at a bargain basement price at an auction. And as soon as Valerie sees it she realises why it was so cheap and it needs extensive renovation to fix it up. However as the renovations proceed she discovers that it’s not just the state of the house that’s wrong. It is possessed by a malevolent spirit that is slowly taking over the family and Valerie has to overcome her fears to escape the house and her increasingly abusive husband. But the house won’t let them go without a fight. This is a genuinely scary ghost horror that’s up there with the likes of Mary Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King. In fact it had a very The Shining vibe to it. It will keep you chilled and gobsmacked right till the end where there is a twist worthy of M Night Shyamalan. If you like your scary ghost horrors then this is definitely worth a try.

Paranormal brilliance.
An absolutely brilliant and spooky paranormal thriller No.7 Mistfall Lane is by Katherine Black.
Rob, Val, and their daughter Jasmine bought and moved into a burnt out house to renovate.
It wasn't long before Val became aware there was more to the house, and paranormal occurrences were evident, leaving her terrified.
At the same time, Rob's moods changed with a growing anger towards Val.
This is a truly gripping story, drew me in from the off. This is a real page turner full of chills and thrills, things definitely going bump in the night.
Mistfall Lane is is a superbly written book by Katherine, sensational settings and characters, which makes for great visualisations as you read through.
I recommend this incredible book very highly. A perfect rating of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

The haunting concepts in this book are some of the best I have ever read. And I love a good ghost story. Like any good horror story, you find yourself squirming as the family moves into this creepy house. And wincing every time they subject themselves to the dark forces that are afoot. The plot twists and building mystery was breathtaking. Even as the pages flew, I didn’t want this book to end. I could envision the vivid and captivating world built within it. The characters are engaging and multi-dimensional. They add to the intrigue and emotional grip of this book. The story grabs you from the start and will not turn you loose until the end. And what and ending! Don’t miss this thrilling read!

Wow, this book had me hooked from the very beginning! Compelling, unsettling, and a fantastic story, I breezed through this book and did NOT see the ending coming. The characters were compelling and the creepy moments were truly spooky.
I knocked off a star for two reasons: One, there were a few editing typos (I'm typically not picky but at times it took me out of the story), and two, I wanted to yell at the characters for the choices they made more than I would have preferred! I suppose that just goes to show how involved I was with the story, a testament to the author's skill. Overall, I highly recommend this book, especially for spooky season.

The last 30% or so of the book is very suspenseful and the whole book is very atmospheric. However, there were some formatting glitches in the first part and some of the pacing was really jarring. I also feel like there could have been more foreshadowing as some of the major stuff seemed to come out of nowhere. And finally, I'm not sure about R's deal as it felt like he started falling apart *before* even getting the house.

The first thing you notice when you pick up this book is just how talented the writer is! She truly has a gift for language and her descriptions make the reader visualize everything that is happening in the story. And what a story this is! The paranormal action is intense but (in my opinion) what is even MORE unsettling is the lead male character’s slow descent into madness. The vivid writing makes it seem real. I got chills more than once. This was my first novel by this author and I will be back for more. Perfect spooky tale for this time of year!

I enjoyed the plot, and the ending reminded me of a movie I'd seen and enjoyed. However, I didn't know there were lesbian characters in the book, and I wouldn't have read it if I had known that, as it's not something I feel comfortable reading. There was also a lot of repetition about Valerie preferring her lesbian lover over her husband, and that she was going to make it work with Robert for the sake of their daughter. Readers only need to be told that once. And there was also a lot of telling instead of showing.

A tense and compelling horror story. The horror is unremitting once it starts. For the main character, caught in a marriage she no longer wants to be in, she cannot understand what is happening, simply because she forgets the horror each time it happens. While for her husband, he descends into madness. The book concludes on a fascinating note and leaves much unanswered, which adds to the tension.

Wow! What an Amazing book this was! For Reference I’ve already started it over twice before finishing because I never wanted it to end! So creepy and all the twists make this my favorite haunted house story that I have read to date! And that twist at the end…. Omg! Took my breath away! Five stars! This book is absolutely a must read for Halloween! Will definetly be reading more from this talented author❤️

Hard not to find this compelling
I could have been finicky and highlighted the bits I felt didn't work for me and marked this down to 4 stars, but the fact is this is a very compelling ghost /horror story which makes the reader want to stick with it. It has a little twist at the end too. I slept on what I should put in this review, and decided it deserves the 5 stars which I am giving it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book by the author. I don’t know if she is written or or paranormal before but this was very good. The final two chapters. I kind of shook, shook my head at the end ended up playing a bit of a role in the book to not toterrifying but a good spooky book in October. Well worth the read I like the fact that Robert imploded.

This was a very satisfying supernatural read with a delicious twist at the end. The story quickly pulls you in and there is a character that you soon love to hate and almost rejoice anytime something else awful befalls them! Found it hard to put down, wanting to keep turning the page as I galloped to the end.

Wow what a page turner! I read this book in one weekend and stayed up wayyyy too late on a Sunday to finish it. Not normally a horror reader (beyond Victorian classic horrors) and wow this book had me gripped!

I’ve actually just read this book for the second time, I read it last year and recently realised I hadn’t left a review so I thought would read it again before writing one as I was looking for a spooky read anyway and it was definitely worth my time. It’s a fantastic Paranormal horror which has everything you could want from the genre.
After some domestic troubles, Robert moves wife Valerie and daughter Jasmine away from their home to escape the memories of betrayal. He buys no 7 Mistfall Lane for a steal at auction, the house is fire damaged and in need of renovation, but it quickly becomes clear that the house has a much darker problem than simple repairs can fix. And once the house has you in its grasp, it won’t let you go again without a fight.
Black’s masterful ability to create amazing characters once again allows for a real emotional connection which helps suck you into the story and get really invested in how it ends. And with a nice little twist, this one was a really satisfying end to a perfectly spooky read.
