Summary Moonshine plunges us into the gritty, shadowy world of Detective Samantha Nightshade, a newly turned vampire balancing crime-solving with supernatural politics. When a string of bizarre murders leaves both human and supernatural communities on edge, Sam faces her most dangerous case yet. Between werewolf allies, vampire court intrigue, and her human partner who’s oblivious to her vampiric nature, Sam must crack the case before chaos reigns. This urban fantasy gem delivers equal parts humour, suspense, and heart with a protagonist who’s unapologetically sarcastic but deeply relatable. Cheri Myst masterfully blends supernatural elements with a classic detective noir vibe, creating a story you won't want to pause.
Review: Right from the start, Moonshine hooked me with its noir-esque atmosphere and Sam’s snarky internal monologue. The world-building is rich but not overwhelming, and the mix of supernatural and detective elements hits just right. Sam is the type of heroine you root for: imperfect, funny, and endlessly resourceful.
There’s a scene that I really enjoyed, where Sam has to attend a vampire court hearing, and it’s full of tension, biting humour, and political maneuvering.
Ash Aarrestad was great with her narration! Her narration captures Sam's biting sarcasm and vulnerability while giving distinct voices to the rest of the cast.
Would I Recommend It? Absolutely! Whether you’re a fan of urban fantasy, detective stories, or just love a strong female lead who’s as sarcastic as she is skilled, Moonshine delivers. It's a great follow-up to Bloodstone, but you can totally jump in with this one without missing a beat.

In addition, the exploration of Sam's internal conflict adds depth to the narrative and makes her a complex and fascinating character. The plot of 'Moonshine' is an intriguing puzzle that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Detective Nightshade is back for another mystery and this time the fate of the paranormal world is tied to her case.
There's been a string of suspicious cases with evidence looking like the perpetrator(s) are from the paranormal community. So Samantha definitely has her work cut out for her. This book has the signature quick wit and quirky (or inappropriate, depending on if you're an ancient vampire or not) comments Detective Nightshade is known for. It's a fun mystery with some interesting undercover operations and some secrets to keep from partners.
The narrator is the same as the previous story, and she still does a wonderful job voicing all the characters! I listened at 1.2x speed. This is the second book and can be enjoyed on its own without the first, but you should definitely check out book one!
OMG 😱 this was the best paranormal story ever. It was a page turner and the suspense was incredible intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. Samantha Nightshade was a homicide detective there was an attack on the paranormal people. The werewolves were looking like suspicious and they become suspect. Could she solve the mystery of all the murders in this moment. Will it be someone she knows or just meet? Will she be shocked of to what she will uncover in this moment. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones
Samantha Nightshade ,a homicide detective, is a newly turned vampire. Someone is killing humans and making it look like a werewolf did it. Now the werewolves think vampires are doing it and vampires thing were wolves are doing it. Either case would break a centuries old peace treaty. Enter Dr Howlett a werewolf acting as a consultant. What a trio since Sams partner is human. Again there is humor and puns as in Bloodstone. I like how Sam accepts the strangeness of her life. Another good book from Cheri. I heartily recommend this book
Moonshine: A Paranormal Mystery is book #2 in The Samantha Nightshade series by Cheri Myst.
This was the first book I’ve read in this series or by the author and I really enjoyed it. It is not a long book, but the story never felt rushed. Samantha Nightshade is a detective who is also a vampire. It was a lot of fun watching her try to navigate her new supernatural reality while keeping it secret from her police partner.

Supernatural crime story for the win! I absolutely love the combination of these two genres and Moonshine did not disappoint. I will need to go back to the first book in the series now that I have been introduced to this author. While the plot itself did not need the first book, the character background would have put context to their relationships. Overall, I enjoyed the investigation that led to solving the mystery. I cannot wait for more!.

Samantha unravels a mystery that could shatter the delicate balance between the human world and the supernatural realm. Who is doing all the killings, Why are the bodies look like a werewolf kill but no virus or werewolf scent. Will Detective Nightshade be able to find out who is killing the humans before the supernatural world implodes and war breaks out.
I love Samantha Nightshade! She is snarky and funny, very funny and a vampire. I was thoroughly entertained with the antics of those in the supernatural world.
Poor Mark! He has a rough go at it this time around.
A few unexpected surprises for sure! I can't wait to see what Samantha gets up to next.. Hopefully a boyfriend, I need a little romance!
So, book two in this amazing series. I just loved this one from the first word to the last one. Samantha never gets fazed by anyone or anything, jealous? I maybe just a little bit. It’s another cracking series that should never end. I wonder what’s going to happen in the next one. Highly recommended.
This latest installment of the Paranormal Detective Novel featuring Detective Samantha Nightshade is even snarkier, funnier and more dangerous than the first one. And the names, the werewolf named Luna Howlett, I love it! This is a very entertaining short read and I highly recommend this series!
Amazing book that keeps your reading entertained and laughing at every turn. Waiting excitingly for the next book in the series to come out. Highly recommend it.
Moonshine is a fun romp through the supernatural crime-filled nights of Detective Samantha Nightshade. Fans of J. R. Ran and Jim Butcher are sure to enjoy this short cozy.
