4.5 Suspenseful, Action Packed Story filed with So Much Sexiness!!!!!!

OMG, I LOVED nate and Sofia. These two were pure sexual bliss and the sweetness and love they held for each other....priceless!!! Their sexual chemistry was to die for:)

My only issue and therefore a half star deduction was the end...it was to abrupt, I needed and wanted more time with them "together" living out their lives together and doing the things that they loved together! I would have loved seeing them move forward and how life was treating them TOGETHER!!!!! The KEY word....TOGETHER:)

I am an Epilogue girl, I need one, I want one and this story that was so awesome and did not have one:( Why, oh why, do authors do that, ughhhhhh!!!!!! This was too short and the quick ending left me un-satisfied:(

Nate and Sofia deserved that much needed Epilogue for me personally. They were SO awesome and sexy and sweet...see I could go on and on, lol

2.5 s'alright stars

So.. This was an alright read. There wasn't anything in this story that particularly annoyed me, nor was there anything that I loved.

Nate and Sofia are ex lovers and we are thrown into the story after she has left him and the two reconnect. We don't learn about their past relationship through flashbacks but are simply told what went wrong. Usually, I would be fine with this, but in this instance, I did not get the connection these two had. As a reader we never experience them as a couple.

Nate was a bit bland to me. I couldn't figure out his feelings tbh. He loves Sofia but hates her job as an investigative reporter. Then we learn that her reporter look is what turns him on the most, he loves her strength, stubbornness and her willingness to fight for justice. But he hates her job....? Erm..?

wth photo rr.gif

Sofia. She left him because he didn't care about things. He wanted her to stop caring so much. But he loves that side of her. Confused? Yup, me too. Well, anyway.. She left him, but then calls him when she's in trouble. Brings trouble to his doorstep. Throw herself at him even though he is reluctant, which is something I absolutely hate. Nothing has changed in their relationship since she left him, so why throw yourself at him? Sigh.. After fully involving Nate in her business she finally realises: hey, I'm bringing him into my trouble! I better leave.. Off she goes to get herself into more trouble.

 photo tumblr_lukmqu9EnQ1qdp8bxo1_250_zpsfe1df6dd.gif

The nookie was a bit boring. But luckily, there weren't too many sex scenes. I mean I like nookie, but if it's a snooze fest I'd rather get to the suspense part.

Speaking of.. The suspense plot line. Big build up with four secondary characters that contribute to the "twists" and turns. Three colleagues and one baddie. The baddie only makes one appearance, which was boring and filled with poorly veiled threats similar to a cartoon villain, and the resolution of the plot was extremely anticlimactic. We just learn that he was arrested. No shoot down or final threats or anything dramatic. Nate fights some goons and is injured and passes out.. But you never doubt he's fine. Minimum drama. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

The ending felt abrupt and with no epilogue, I really couldn't care less how these two fare.

Title: Anti Hero
Author: Skye Warren
Category: Romance, Suspense
Series or Standalone: Standalone
POV: Dual
Plot: 5
Characters: 5
Scorching Level: 5
HEA: Not telling

Skye Warren is my to go author when I want something well written and intense.
This book was no exception and it was one of my favorite of hers!
Sofia is a driven reporter with a strong sense of justice. Having known pain and misery herself, she uses all her power to shed light on organized crime.
Her latest story involves danger and a seedy politician. In too deep, she finds herself in danger, fearing for her life.
Nate used to be in special forces but now he is a private investigator and a member of the black ops. When the only woman he has ever cared about is in danger he will do everything in his power to protect her.
The writing is fantastic and this book was a refreshing one. Skye Warren proves that she can write anything and even though this isn't her usual dark romance, it is as thrilling and intricate!
I highly recommend this book.
Want an alpha male with and intense sense of justice and honor? Want a heroine that fights for what she believes? Excellent chemistry? Then this is for you.

Sofia is that quintessential plucky reporter with more balls than brains. Nate is her ex-millitary, now private investigator former lover. She instinctively reaches out to him after a scary experience, and he takes as fate putting him back in her life...if only he can keep her alive.

The Good:
1. This did a good job of breaking down why they didn't work the first time around, while giving hope it can work now.

2. The heroine's job made this different from Skye Warren's other books I've read. She was independent which kept her from being the typical fragile heroine this writer favors.

3. Nate is protective, while being considerate of things the heroine has been through. He wants to shield but not smother.

4. This is a standalone.

The Bad:
1. The title made me think the hero was going to be less cookie cutter. He is definitely a good guy, not an anti-hero.

2. This does have heroine TSTL moments.

Final Thoughts:
Despite a couple of bumps, it was an enjoyable read. I would give this 3 1/2 stars. If you like rekindled love stories, this might be worth checking out.

I can't believe I'm DNFing a Skye Warren book, but alas there's so much dithering I can bear with.
At 25% of the book (around 50%? of the story, the book contains 2) I was simply and totally bored. Both hero and heroine were blah, there was a lot of "I'm not good enough" on both parts. We were given pretty dense (and difficult background stories for both, but they didn't really resonate with the characters as written. I didn't see neither a tough journalist who survived hell nor a tough hero who survived hell. I saw 2 blah people. And I didn't really see any romance either. Moreover, the book is supposed to be thrilling: blackmail, drugs(?), a corrupted presidential candidate. But like the background on the heroes, it's just words. You don't feel the thrilling, you don't feel the danger or the risks.

Unfortunately the book wasn't formatted, so I could not get to book 2 to read. There was no link or index, the only way would have been keep reading or clicking until the end. But honestly ... too much work :)

Love Skye’s stories, they really pull you in and grab you by the throat. This gem is no different, trust me.
Sofia is a journalist digging for dirt on the man running for president. A girl with a troubled past, she recognises evil when she sees it. Narrowly escaping an attempt to kill her,she calls her ex on her way home. After saying goodbye,Nate feels there’s more to her call and decides to check on her. And saves her life. He’s not about to let her go again, and forces her to accept his protection. Finally, whilst dodging bullets, they allow themselves to explore how they feel.

Fastpaced, with just enough depth for a short story, this story kept me glued to the pages right until the end.

I loved this juicy little surprise from Skye! Can you say ALPHA??? Damn! The chemistry is HOT! Skye does twists and turns like no one else and this story is full of surprises. Not only is Skye the Mistress of Dark Romance, she is also the Queen of Military Romance! This is not a dark read. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Anti Hero by Skye Warren is about anything but an antihero! Nate Gaines is very much a hero even if he doesn't think he is or likes being called one. The heroine, Sofia, is just as heroic as the hero: strong, fiesty, and passionate in what she does and believes in.

The centers on Sofia, a reporter who is investigator a senator she believes to be dirty and is trying to expose him. However, through unforeseen events (sorry to be vague, but don't want to spoil!), her ex-boyfriend, Nate Gaines, is brought back to her side. The story just sky rockets from there with the action, suspense, heat, and wonderful chemistry between these two characters. Adore Nate and Sofia!

What I loved about this story was the depth and emotion that Ms. Warren was able to convey through her characters especially in regards to having them overcome these traumatic events in their pasts and survive. Or how she does have characters within the book who would not be considered heroes, or the 'good guy' in the novel because of what they've done, make a decision, and then do something heroic. Making themselves hero, even if it is to that one person in that one moment in time. Those moments in the book, with those secondary characters stood out for me. You'll have to read to see who I am talking about it.

Overall, Anti Hero by Skye Warren was a great novel and I really enjoyed reading it. Definitely recommend!

5 I'm holding out for an Anti-Hero STARS!!!

Wow, this book packs a punch! Sofia is a journalist in Austin Texas who is investigating the story of a lifetime. She realizes she might be in too deep when the building she works in is bombed. Feeling shaky she calls the only man who has ever made her feel safe, Nate Gaines. When Nate hears Sofia's voice on the phone after months of silence, he knows she is in trouble. And thank goodness he listens to his gut, he arrives just in time to save Sofia. Sofia and Nate both have scars from the past that have kept them apart. Thrust into a dangerous situation together, Sofia and Nate might have realized too late what they really mean to each other!

Whew! What a thrill ride! This book is packed full of danger, intrigue, angst and blazing hot chemistry. Nobody does the tortured and flawed hero quite like Skye Warren. There is always an urgency to her writing that leaves me on the edge of my seat and when I reach the end I can't wait to see what she writes next! ONE click this book! You will not be disappointed.

For most of this book I would've given it 2.5/3 stars. Though I didn't like the author's structuring of the story and her character development left a lot to be desired, the plot was interesting and the romance steamy. So for anyone interested in buying this, on at least the kindle unlimited version, this is actually two books. Each taking up appx 1/2 the page count and apparently totally unrelated. So this is a sorta thriller with some romance tossed int. The h is a young reporter headstrong willing to do what it takes to break the story but always for the right reasons. H is battle scarred war hero, though he doesn't see himself that way. They had something in the past. Lovers? definitely. In love...just fwb? Who knows that info isn't really given to us, we don't even get any flashbacks of them together just one memory and several reiterations of why they broke up. The plot, though interesting, wasn't paced very well. It basically opens up with all action scenes, never really giving the reader time to get anticipation up like a thriller should do because it was all action scenes and revelations without any buildup. Then suddenly it's over. Both MCs had scarred pasts, but they didn't really read well. The chapters alternated between present day and 10 years ago for h's past but the author never really comes right out and says what happens to her, its all just the aftermath. With the H she does tell us what happened but it's devoid of any emotion. Still I was enjoying it till I hit about chapter 20/26. They're having sexy times which is nice and all. She's just given him a BJ and that's apparently not enough so he decides to have sex with her. Only problem? She's not physically prepared. She says wait wait he says can't and keeps going...hurting her. While wait isnt exactly no this still felt pretty close to rape. Even if we're not gonna call it that he still fucking hurt her like a douchebag because he couldn't control himself. What makes this even worse is he knew what had happened to her. She was at the very least raped and possibly gang raped, by my math this occurred when she was 14 years old. He knew and he still fucking hurt her. That's a massive no for me. It completely ruined the book but by that point I figured I might as well see it through. Other assorted things: the formatting was weird, the chapter headings just blended in to the rest of the text and it wasn't always denoted whether we were in past or present; and h had this weird thing with calling everyone a hero...like even someone close to her who had betrayed her
Bottom line: the story was interesting but not much else about this book worked. Wouldn't recommend.

I LOVED Sophia and Nate! I pretty much read this book in one sitting :) I could not put it down! Skye Warren is known for her dark reads, and writing villain love stories. This was a bit different from her usual work. This book is full of intrigue and suspense, and of course hot, hot, hot chemistry between Sophia and Nate. Sophia is a journalist that gets in some hot water, and calls on the one person that she knows will come through for her - Nate. I loved the gritty, raw, tension and undeniable heat. I also enjoyed the action and danger.

I would definitely recommend this book to Skye Warren fans. Enjoy the wild ride!

Anti Hero by Skye Warren
Sofia is an investigative reporter who is working on a dangerous story. Nate is her ex-boyfriend and a private investigator. They both still harbour feelings for one another. When Sofia phones Nate he can hear she needs him and he comes to her rescue. The investigative story is putting both their lives at risk. Can they uncover the truth without getting killed? I am usually a huge fan of Skye Warrens work, but this story fell short for me. I felt the character development was missing. There was so much inner dialogue of not feeling good enough for one another, that it became boring and repetitive. The story had a good plot but just did not deliver. So for me personally it was just Okay.

This book was really good! Fast paced and exciting! Lots of action that's starts from the very first page. Nate was so hot! The chemistry between Nate and Sofia is intense. Both of them have issues that keep them apart but they get brought back together. Some things could have been explained better or for into more detail but otherwise it was great. I really enjoyed this and I hope we hear more from the characters in this book! This book was given to me for an honest review.

Biggest complaint about this book.....it was too short!

I loved the storyline and Nate and Sophie's second chance at love, but again, I finished the book before I could really become totally invested in the main characters.

Anti Hero was an okay read for me but nothing to get overly excited about. The characters were a bit contradictory and the plot lacked any major attention grabbers.

With a title like Anti Hero I was kind of excited to see how Ms. Warren was going to change an obviously not great guy (or the very least a guy that has made some marked mistakes) into a hero that the reader wants to cheer for. But, that wasn't the case at all. Nate was a war hero that left the military after losing his team in battle only to join private sector. He was definitely disenchanted with his military background but he didn't go "bad" or anything.

Sophia was hit and miss for me. There were times that I loved her tough girl take charge personality and then there were other times that I questioned how she had lived that long on her own devices. She left Nate because of his obvious lack of interest in almost anything. He had always hated her job and hated that she was always courting in trouble. Yet, he would often mention that what he loved about her most was her fierceness and fight for the underdog ways. Did I mention that it was contradictory?

Bottom Line: this story was just okay. Fine to read just don't expect to become invested.

I’ve had this one on my e-reader for a long time. It’s a lovely angsty story of two damaged people who are hella strong despite it all, and both fight for the cause. This is a quick read with strong chemistry between the two leads.

Anti-Hero
By: Skye Warren

4.5 Star review by Kristie K.

What defines a hero? According to Merriam-Webster, a hero is “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities”. Did you notice that it didn’t say anywhere in that definition that a hero has to acknowledge their hero status? So, what is even better, even sexier than a hero? How about a hero who denies his status, and believes that he is no more a hero than the next man. That is Nate Gaines, former black ops Army Ranger, private investigator, and mercenary on the side. His heroics didn’t stop with his discharge from the military, but he refuses to acknowledge himself as a hero…Sofia Mendoza knows otherwise. After a childhood of loss, fear, and unthinkable violence, Sofia found refuge with Nate. He was her safe place, when she never thought she would feel safe again. A star reporter at the local newspaper, Sofia felt a strong need to uncover the evil in the world, and make the perpetrators pay. A difference of opinion causes an impasse between them, and a wedge between them grew…until the day Sofia stumbles upon something big, something dangerous, and someone wanted her to pay with her life. With the woman he loves in trouble, Nate can’t stand aside any longer and deny the hero within.

Anti-Hero is an amazing read. It held so many of my favorite things:
Inked, alpha-male, military man with a heart of gold…..CHECK
Gorgeous, lovable, sweet and innocent heroine with the soul of an angel…CHECK
Edgy, dark, and devastating pasts……CHECK
Suspense, mystery, intrigue……CHECK
Kick ass action scenes, where the bad guys get theirs……CHECK
HOT, out-of-this-world sexy times……CHECK

I was entranced with the story from beginning to end. There were a few times when I was slightly confused about what was happening, but I was able to catch up as the story continued. Nate is the perfect mix of sexy, inked bad-boy mercenary, and passionate, loving, hot-as-hell hero. I felt all the feels when they both realized what the other was afraid of, when they finally “got” each other on that next level. The pain in both Nate and Sofia was palpable, and the guilt….ah….the guilt. I rode every wave with them, felt every blow, sighed every sigh. A book is a winner to me when it can make me FEEL something. Anti-Hero did that, and oh so much more. The book was incredibly well written, and flowed from beginning to end without a hitch. Ms. Warren is an incredible talent, with an ability not many authors have. I look forward to delving into more of her work, and seeing just where she will take me next.
