Fallon Mariano isn’t sure what she wants for her life, but when she locks eyes with a stranger in an overcrowded diner, one thing is certain: everything has changed. As she begins to learn more about him, she quickly becomes sucked into his world and leaves everything she once knew behind. Fallon believes wholeheartedly that they’re meant to be, and eons ago, the stars wrote their love story, long before the two had ever met. But when an enemy threatens to crumble her newfound world, will she survive the fallout?
Ozzy Micheals has one thing in this world: his brothers. That is until a purple-haired vixen catches his eye, and his life is completely flipped upside down. In the blink of an eye she becomes his whole universe, the one thing he can’t afford to lose, and he would lay down his life for hers in a heartbeat. After one too many decisions, Ozzy faces his toughest one yet, but will he be able to keep everyone he loves in one piece?
Magic or Madness is the first of two books in a dark romance duet, told in dual POV. With hilarious side characters that become one big, messy, dysfunctional family, this book will make you smile and laugh out loud. A fast paced, burning love story that quickly turns into a cyclone of destruction, Magic or Madness will keep you on the edge of your seat, and make you believe in the possibility of soulmates at first sight.
To say I loved this book would be an understatement. This was a new author for me and she did not disappoint. Magic or Madness had me in my feels the entire time. I loved Fallon and Ozzy, Ozzy’s crew and the girls.
Fallon is smart, strong and independent. She didn’t have the best life growing up and it left her with some major trust issues. I loved seeing her work through her past with Ozzy so she could put it behind her the best she could. She for sure made the best out of any situation and loved to be the life of the party. She was also the mom of the group so it was awesome to see her help a lot of the guys out of their shells too.
Ozzy for me was so lovable. The definition of a giant teddy bear. He holds such a hard exterior that it was so refreshing to see him able to be vulnerable with Fal and work though his past issues as well. He was super protective of her and didn’t want her to have anything to do with the life he lives so she can stay safe always.
Their insta love literally gave me chills at certain points. They didn’t know each other at all but their chemistry was out of this world. They loved to take care of one another and just make sure they were always in the right place. I adored Fallon and Ollys relationship. Cooking together was their thing and they formed the cutest brother/sister relationship. I also loved that he was willing to “share” Cami with her after seeing their connection as well.
Magic or Madness has the right amount of banter, tension, spice and mystery. I was totally questioning everyone by the end. I didn’t know who to trust at all. This is a duet so it does end with a cliff hanger but it was totally worth the read! 4.5⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
dnf at 27%. i gave this book 100 pages before i unfortunately had to call it. i would like to preface that this was well written & feel as though the plot has potential. the blurb caught my eye & i haven’t read anything with an instalove trope so figured i would give it a shot. i quickly discovered that it’s not something i enjoy, which is certainly nothing on the author. this is all personal opinion & preference. i would like to try out something else from the author because i do think she is an author i would like to read more of. again, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with this book it’s just not for me. thank you to the author for allowing me to receive my first arc🫶🏼
I have sat on this review for over 24 hours. I annotate my eARCs to keep track of quotes and whatnot and I highlighted more in the first 25% of this book than I normally do for an entire ARC. Everything or two MCs said in this book was poetic and beautiful AF. This is marketed as insta-love and that is accurate. So don’t go into this expecting any sort of slow anything. It’s not going to happen. But it was so well done that I barely remembered they just met like…yesterday.
The plot and the spice in this book were both so well done that I just kept flipping the page. There were a few spots that I had to put my kindle down and walk away because I just knew something bad was about to happen and the angst was ALLL the way turned up. But when I tell you I laughed and cried my way through this book, I’m not exaggerating.
Fallon is a queen and finds a way to make every man in this book her bitch. Or at least respect the heck out of her. And Ozzy is so down bad for Fallon, he worships every surface she touches (as he should). He’s literally so supportive of her as she blossoms and starts discovering herself and embracing all the new things being thrown her way. I loved the vulnerability that Fallon and Ozzy showed to each other and their friends without being afraid to cry or scream when they needed to.
This book was a beautiful, heart-wrenching journey with cliffhanger that wrecked me. But I will be first in line for book 2 because I can’t wait to see what these characters do next.
I loved this story. The trauma healing in this scratched an itch in my brain. I absolutely loved it!!! Fallon and Ozzy catch each others attention at a restaurant. They connect and it's instalove immediately. Ozzy is everything. He's caring, sensitive, protective.. just the sweetest man I think I have ever read! Fallon is working on overcoming some past trauma. Together, they help each other heal. The little trip they take to visit Masha and remember her had me in my feelings. That was just the sweetest thing. There were so many heartfelt moments. The characters are all very well developed with lots of depth and background to them. I love when an author gives us that because we can better understand who the characters are and why they do the things they do. The story is well written and very easy to follow. Ozzy and Fallon's relationship had me hooked. Personally, I did find the storyline to be a bit slow. I enjoyed it, it just took a while to get to something exciting. Most of the story was Ozzy and Fallons relationship and we don't have anything major happening until we're 75% of the way through the book. The entire time I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop... and after a while, I was beginning think that maybe nothing was going to happen and it was just going to be a sweet heartfelt love story. I was shocked at the ending. I really thought Ozzy was gong to back down and not be able to do it. That ending though? It has me anxious to know what will happen in the next book and how Fallon will handle that. Definitely give this a read.
Magic or Madness swept me away into a whirlwind of love, chaos, and unexpected twists. This book is a refreshing and captivating take on dark romance, and the unique storyline had me hooked from the very first chapter. The fast-paced, burning love story between Fallon and Ozzy kept me eagerly flipping the pages, while the suspense and high stakes had me holding my breath.
Fallon is a relatable, fierce protagonist whose journey of love and self-discovery is both thrilling and heart-wrenching. And Ozzy—oh, Ozzy! From the moment he locked eyes with Fallon and affectionately called her “my Bambi,” I was completely sold. Watching him fall head over heels and transform into a love-sick puppy was an absolute delight. His devotion is palpable, and their soulmate connection is beautifully portrayed.
The side characters are hilarious and add layers of humor, making you feel like you’re part of a big, messy, dysfunctional family. But don’t be fooled—this book isn’t all sweet moments and laughter. The twists are jaw-dropping and totally unexpected, turning the story into a cyclone of destruction that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
If you’re looking for a romance that blends magic, passion, and pulse-pounding tension, Magic or Madness is the book to pick up. It made me laugh, swoon, and believe in soulmates at first sight.
💜 bi fmc / protective mmc 🖤 found family / band of misfits 💜 childhood trauma / grief 🖤 instant insta love 💜 kn!fe / blood play 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
I have never been a fan of insta-love, but I fuckin am a fan of Fallon and Ozzy. Their chemistry was undeniable and addicting, I found myself not minding that they just met. There is nothing slow about this book, and it fits perfectly for the absolute head over heels love we find Ozzy and Fallon in.
To say that Ozzy is supportive and down for Fallon, no matter what, would be an understatement. He readily and happily accepts Fallon for EXACTLY who she is, even when she doesn’t know who that is just yet. He is the definition of a big teddy bear 🥹
Fallon is everything. To grow up in the environment she did, to experience such awful things in her young life and STILL be so genuinely good? (Minus the part that’s like, just a little bad 🤭) She is sunshine, she is the mom for these misfits, she deserves all good things.
And the found family? The group shenanigans? I can’t say enough about it. Chefs kiss. The plot kept me on my toes, and the cliffhanger??? I was questioning everybody by the end. This was beautiful and I can’t wait to see what part 2 gives us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I hadn't read an insta-love in a while, but I got this via ARC and thought it sounded interesting. I did love Fallon and Ozzy's relationship, from beginning until, almost, the end.
The spice in the book is "chef's kiss" but I love that consent is always a huge part of it, and Ozzy is always asking for that very clearly from Fallon, who needed that after her past life.
I think what I liked best about the book was the relationship between the larger friend group. It's a story of a group of young people whom life has dumped on, in one way or another, and who have been taken advantage of by those in power. Those people then form this found family unit, completed when Fallon arrives and becomes the de facto mom to the group.
My critique of the book was it felt really long and drawn out, especially since it's part 1 of 2, and I felt like some of the scenes and dialogue got a little repetitive to make it that long. I am still looking forward to reading the second part, that was a heck of a cliffhanger, but I think there could have been some parts that were condensed.
Wow, just wow! What an amazing story and hold on to your pants for that cliffhanger 😳
This was my 1st book by this author and I'm quickly looking into other reads by her to hold me over until I can get my hands on the 2nd book in this series!
I absolutely LOVED the instant connection and chemistry between Ozzy and Fallon. The ups and downs that both of these characters have been through builds such a good background and shows how much they grow throughout the story with each other. I truly enjoyed reading the back and forth between them and being able to see parts of the story through each of their eyes was a wonderful touch. I love a dual POV!
I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't read this book fast enough once I got started, but dang that ending left me absolutely wrecked 😏
There are some trigger warnings for this book, but if you can get through them, enjoy a dual POV, and an instant love connection then I highly recommend giving this book a go!
Fal and Ozzy! Fal and Ozzy! FAL AND OZZY! I had to say it three times because, yes, it is necessary, and yes, they are amazing. This book is Taylor's first foray into dark romance, and you would never be able to tell. The story that is woven here is traumatic, beautiful, broken, and filled with a group of characters you can't help but love (or hate). Olly is the one true love of my life and he is perfect in every way. The strength that Fallon shows through everything that she has gone through in her life is formidable, and the love that Ozzy has for her is wild and true. Ozzy is someone who is made bad choices in his life before, and is trying to make up for his mistakes. Together, they are the perfect example of insta-love, but not without their own problems. While the book ends on an explosive cliffhanger, it just makes the reader want to dive back into the story for the next portion of the duet.
Wreck me duet indeed! This book hits so many dark romance check marks for me! But the best part? Even with all the spice, knife play etc the MMC is always making sure he has consent while also still maintaining that dominant role which sometimes gets missed in dark romance. The FMC has her own dominating moments which is just *chefs kiss*. This book has spice, consent, bi-exploration, crime/danger, found family, dealing with/healing from trauma, kidnapping, black mail, and having to make tough decisions to keep others safe.
This book left me on edge and hungry for part 2! I’m so glad that I read this book because I promise you it’s going to end up on the NYT best sellers list. This book ranks up with Haunting Adeline for me and that was my first dark romance read.
Magic or Madness is a 5 star read for me and a 4/5 stars for spice.
Wow did this book take me on a rollercoaster. I loved the chemistry between Ozzy and Fallon and the ending, well it wrecked me! Pun totally intended.
Trigger warnings aside, this is a book about so much more than just the smut (which I thoroughly enjoyed by the way!) It’s a story about finding your soulmate, feeling totally at one with that person and doing whatever it takes to protect them at all costs. It’s also however about finding your tribe and I loved the dynamic between the brothers and the way in which Fallon and eventually Cami and Pepper instantly fitted into the boys dysfunctional family unit. Fallon and Ollie’s developing friendship was a definite highlight of the book for me.
All in all, I devoured this book. It’s well written and addictive and I’m not usually a romance reader (I place myself very firmly in the crime fiction junkie position). I’m looking forward to book number two!
First off I want to start my review by saying WOW!
Fallon and Ozzy will captured your mind, soul and heart. The tense you feel between the two of them is a frustrating one but a pure ball of steamy hot chemistry. From the first chapter I was ROPED in and NEEDED to keep reading. I was so invested in Taylor’s writing, I found myself making a connection with every character while I read!
There are definitely some dark themes so please please read the trigger warnings! Then take the dive into a wonderful Rollercoaster Ride of Emotions and spice 😉. The Dicktionary wasn’t lying about Chapter 15, the heat was turned wayyyy up! I had to fan myself while I read because WOAH!
Fallon and Ozzy’s story fueled a fire in me I didn’t know was there. BUT Ms. Taylor that cliffhanger whew!!!!! 😱
This is a new author to me, and I'm so glad I read this book.
This is a duet, so it does end in a cliffhanger, but I am already waiting for book 2!!
Ozzy and Fallon are so stinking cute together, I'm often not too much of an instant love situation, but I really really enjoyed their relationship 💖
Fallon is so strong, smart, and insightful. She has a very distressing past trauma, and she worked through to try and put it behind her. Her relationship with the gang is so wholesome. She really is the mama of the group. Ozzy is a massive softy on the inside for Fallon. He is super protective of her and helps her so much.
This book had a great balance and kept me interested. I am so looking forward to the second book in this Duet.
This book was absolutely amazing ! It flowed so well, I love that it had three parts before ending on a cliffhanger for book 2! As much as I hate cliffhangers, it was so so good that I couldn’t hate it! I love that the FMC dabbled in her sexuality & the MMC supported her choices! Everything about this book was literal perfection. It’s definitely in my Top 5 books forever and I just know book 2 is perfect as well (as I’ve read both haha, I love it). I never had to force myself to continue reading it, the author was super sweet and kind considering how much I was asking for book 2 to be done asap as well! 😂 Both are amazing, and this one is definitely something I highly recommend all the time. Fal & Ozzy are perfect and I love them so much !

💜Boy oh boy, the connection Fallon and Ozzy have together is absolutely beautiful. I grew to love each and every character (except maybe one 🙃). The more I read, the more invested I become. If you love instant love connections and stranger-to-lovers AND bi FMCs, I definitely recommend this book. I would definitely read the triggers, of course, before starting, but I enjoyed this, and I am already ready for book two—like yesterday—because the cliffhanger has me 😩😱 (my emotions are just everywhere since finishing this book; it absolutely wrecked me (see what I did there 😏) 💜.
Taylor James has done it again! She always hits her books out of the park every time! Even for this being her first dark romance book she excelled. I hands down love all of her books that I’ve read so far! Thanks again for choosing me as a member of your ARC team!
My favorite quote hands down was from Ozzy: “I love you. More than all those stars you said are out there, more than all the fancy words there are for you to teach me, and way more than anyone else has ever loved a person before. You’re inside me, Fallon. I would kill to protect you, and die to preserve you. You’re my perfect match, my other half, and my soulmate.”

"Magic or Madness" by Taylor James pulled me in from the get go. This was my first by this author and it won’t be my last! It was also my very first ARC. The banter had me going throughout the entire story!
It blends fantasy with deep emotional themes. I was drawn in by the rich world-building and complex characters, each struggling with their own internal battles. The exploration of the fine line between power and chaos resonated with me, making it a thought-provoking experience.
Overall, it’s a poignant and enchanting story that stays with you long after the last page. Highly recommended for fans of character-driven fantasy!
I have not completely finished the book since I got into it thinking it's dark romance. I am actually a really dark romance reader and it wasn't dark for me. I am currently in the middle of the book and I'll give overall review later when I am done. But the writing is so good and very sweet insta love. You'll love how Fallon and Ozzy are described and attracted to each other. The dialogues are also very good. Maybe it gets darker later on but if you like a lighter or soft dark romance, sure give it a try. It's well written. I am guessing if the second book in the duet will be called 'Heaven or Sin' 🫠 Happy release day 💫
This book had me all up in my feels! It was such a good story, and the elements of suspense and action were great. I LOVE Ozzy and Fallon. Even though the connection seemed like insta-lust right at the beginning, they are the definition of soulmates. Ozzy’s crew and the other girls were amazing characters…they made for some hilarious, as well as some very poignant moments throughout the book. To say this book wrecked me would be a little bit of an understatement, especially given the ending. I’m not so patiently waiting for book 2!!!
Oh my god the cliffhanger 😭😭 I hate that I have to wait until the second book arrives but overall this was such a good read!
I love the dynamic of the group and how the group keeps getting bigger with the girls. It truly feels like a family dynamic and the bantering between them all feels like the way siblings would fight.
It definitely is a dark romance and it broke my heart towards the end when the boys have to make a really hard decision to protect the girls.
I can’t wait to see what the second book brings.

This book did not disappoint! The instant connection between Fallon and Ozzy was amazing! If Ozzy looked me in the eyes and silently asked me to follow him into a dark place….I’d for sure follow! The trauma both characters came to the table with could have been and slightly was debilitating. I did not see Cami coming and I am ready to see how that plays into the couples dynamic. That cliffhanger had me! Now I’m gonna be thinking about what’s going on until I read book 2! Great read for sure! I’ll be following this author for more!
The insta-love trope has never been one I’ve gravitated towards but this book, I was HOOKED almost instantly. I love Fallon and Ozzy’s story!!
Her boyfriend Bryce... LORD he was EVERYTHING I hated in a man. So controlling so degrading.
The consent on this book from our MMC was so so good. I truly commend the author for making sure that consent was included in this book because you don’t always see that in dark romances. All that being said, the SPICE in this book!
The CLIFFHANGER I cannot wait for the second book in this duet!!
well another Taylor book to add to my list that has destroyed me and then BETTER BE PICKING ME BACK UP BECAUSE WHAT WAS THAT?!? Fallon and Ozzy are straight up insta love so if this isn’t your jam - keep on keeping on. But if it is - do I have the book for you! This duet is dipping its toes into dark romance but it’s not SUPER dark (like some dark I’m used to reading). I laughed, I gasped, I said WTF out loud so many times. And then the ending 😭😭 it ends on a cliffhanger so please be prepared for that but do not let it keep you from reading until the 2nd book comes out!
I ended up DNF’ing this book, around 50%, which I NEVER do. I thought I’d love it, and the first 20% was very entertaining. However, I found myself falling asleep every time I was reading, even during the day. This could just be a me problem, but I was simply just bored. I’m a big believer in reading books at the right time, and I think this was just a wrong time for me! I will be coming back to this book eventually, just not right now. I did receive an ARC copy of this book, for free, and all thoughts are my own!
This was such a fantastic read, I loved loved Fallon and Ozzy. Their insta-love and chemistry were amazing to read. I was here for it.
Each and every one of the characters stole a little of my heart. The found family between them really pulled on my heartstrings.
I went through so many emotions whilst reading, and my predictions throughout were so wrong, so so wrong. Each twist and turn shocked me, make my head spin and making me yearn for more...
Fallon and Ozzy came in hot and their chemistry was so strong and the pace was fast, but it did not diminish their connection. Just when you believe you have a grasp on the situation, an unexpected twist occurs. The story effortlessly draws you in; it is chaotic and unpredictable but also has you laughing and smiling. The cliffhanger will have you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to see how it ends will it be magic or Madness
I love this book with my entire heart. The characters feel so real, I am seriously super attached to them. Fallon is an absolute queen, Ozzy is down baaaad for her which I adore. The side characters have just as much personality & I could read entire books on them as well!! The insta love is strong on this one, and I enjoyed that so much! Definitely look at triggers before starting this one & be prepared for a CLIFFHANGER!!!! Y’all it’s so good though.
This is a story of survival. Fallon and Ozzy both have complex pasts and somehow they found eachother. It's a whirlwind and fast paced since the beginning. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat till the end. Which is a cliffhanger as it is part of a duet. This book touches of some very sensitive topics so check the trigger warnings.
Wow. Fallon and Ozzy’s connection is beautiful. Each character had a special role in the story. As I kept reading, I became more and more invested in the story but I would definitely read the triggers before reading. I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait for the next book especially with the cliffhanger.
A whirlwind story about love at first sight. 2 strangers find themselves in an undeniable connection that changes everything. Lots of spice and fast paced plot. A great story about found family and finding your place in the world. Fair warning the ending is a cliffhanger and will rip out your heart.
